Hey man, don’t even worry about it. It was literally just Shad being Shad and doing what Shad has done for years now. He seems to love manufacturing drama to make himself look good for his subs. He will never agree to speak with you publicly because he knows that he won’t be able to keep up the facade he sold to his audience. It’s really sad to see how far he’s fallen as once upon a time, like 2017-2018, Shad had no problem admitting he was wrong and correcting himself publicly in videos. Now, though, he’s insufferable. It’s best to completely ignore anything Shad is doing these days, and only respond if he agrees to speak publicly, or makes an apology video for intentionally attacking your character and presenting a false narrative about you for clicks.

In my opinion this is the best way to handle this. Acknowledge his response but don’t harp on it too much. A lot of he time in UA-cam drama people try and drag these things out and it’s nice to see that you are going to be moving on

I drifted away from watching Shad as he became more and more reactionary. The last straw for me was a video in which he informed women what sort of men they are all supposed to find attractive based on his extensive research (looking at romance novel book covers, yes I am serious). It was ignorant, degrading, and at no point did it have anything worthwhile to say about either of the two reasons I subbed to him: castles and swords. Since then he's further degenerated into reactionary rage against popular media, as if there aren't enough of those channels. I guess that's not working out so well so it's time for drama. It's a shame, he has a lot of talent as a presenter and I miss his older stuff. I think the algo is making people dumber, less cooperative, less kind. Glad I found this channel!

Ok, so it's in relation to the troll PhoenixBlaze1776, who in the comments Shads brought up here has attacked one of Sellsword Arts supporters while calling Sellsword a liar in the same comment, made the "doesn't pass the sniff test" remark to Sellsword himself, responded to the supporter again with more insults aimed at both the supporter and Sellsword, including accusing Sellsword of banning people. You know what? Sellsword is allowed to ban Trolls who attack him like PhoenixBlaze1776 has. And given this troll has attacked Sellsword and one of his supporters repeatedly is it really surprising that someone getting flooded with Troll attacks is going to end up making just as nasty a remark back, or nastier? Trolls/bullies being insulted back by their victim/target are not going to get any sympathy from me.

Very disappointed in Shadiversity's response to this entire thing. It was clear that your original video was just a recommendation to take non fencing tests with the appropriate pinch of salt and they've taken it as a personal attack and acted like the swordtube version of Mean Girls. Keep doing what you're doing man, appreciate the good faith and fairness you've shown and the maturity to just push past and ignore the drama.
@@kingpoxy2289 I recommend going back and actually watching Sellswords video. He doesn't mention HEMA at all. He just says not to take accept tests of a combat technique with a specific weapon's viability in combat from someone who has not tested it in combat with an accurate portrayal of that weapon. In his followups he also clarifies that several of his own tests don't meet that standard, which to his credit he calls out in his own videos and why the test isn't fully realistic to a live combat scenario. There was nothing wrong with Shadiversity's videos, they weren't name dropped or targeted, there was no reason for Shad to react at all - but he's released two long videos with cropped and misrepresented snips from Sellsword Arts to win an imagined argument, which is utterly reprehensible. We expect that behaviour from politicians, not history fans.

The more i learn about Shad, the less respect I have for him. I've been subscribed to his channel for years, and still watch his videos on occasion. However I've watched him become more cowardly and drama-hungry, intellectually dishonest and unwilling to engage with discussions or criticism, and I recently learned that he's an anti-LGBT bigot. Really its quite a shame. He's very knowledgeable and well-spoken about much of what he talks about. Unfortunately that seems to have inflated his ego to the point where he believes himself to be the smartest person in any given room.
Sadly I stopped following Shad due to the increase of "na uh" and adhomina style of "debating", that and a general downturn i the quality of of content in my opinion. I've spoken with Matt Easton (Scholagladiatoria), Lloyd (Lindybeige), and Jason Kingsley (Modern History TV), about them producing co-operative videos. They weren't very enthusiastic at that point, but they were all friendly, open, and charming. Shad was quite dismissive. I mention all that because the UK 'arms and armour' guys have subsequently made many collaborative videos. Shad accepted their invitation to visit them and participate, but in a short space of time he managed to alienate them. I suggest you challenge Shad to a duel. That would be real entertainment!

As a former Shad fan, you really should. Especially if you don't like misogyny and support LGBTQ rights. Shad's a bigot and is part of the man-o-sphere, it was the final nail in the coffin for me years ago.

@@Krytern I literally just finished watching Shad's second response video (the 45-minute one) and watched the first one a few days ago and I still 100% completely agree with David's original video. Shad claimed throughout the entirety of his 1 hour video that David was outright stating that if someone doesn't practice Hema then you shouldn't be watching their content. Where in David's actual video he states that if you're going to take technical advice about swordsmanship then the person that you're getting that advice from should practice actual swordsmanship but you should continue to watch anybody you want to that you actually find genuinely entertaining. His entire point is that if someone's going to try and hand out technical knowledge on swordsmanship and they need to actually practice said swordsmanship. It would be like taking a shooting class from somebody who's never even picked up a gun in their life LOL Also sheds blatant disrespect feigning to forget David's name every 5 minutes in that video was genuinely infuriating. I used to have respect for shad given that he made actual entertaining content but over the recent years he has shown himself to be a truly pathetic man with an ego the size of the sun... The man has let his larp lifestyle go to his head lol

This is the best way to handle things. Shad likes to do what I call "response farming" where he lashes out then makes response video after video after video until it's a whole series. At this point he's acting like a troll so as the old internet saying goes "Don't feed the troll"
Here is how it was explained in one of Shad's comments: a professional football player said "hey, you can watch fat men play with foam footballs for entertainment and that's okay, but if you wanna compete with actual athletes, you should also pay attention to actual athletes". And a man baby with a foam football who was never mentioned got mad at it.

I used to watch Shad before I started HEMA and eventually found sellsword. When I told my instructor I watched shadiversity, he told me that shad didn't actually do HEMA and it blew me away! I had no idea. And that's the problem! Shad is speaking from a place of authority that he actually doesn't have. It's intentional and you both know it. And he most likely won't talk to you because I think he's embarrassed about doing so and knows you have a point.
Aus HEMA person here. Third, very third hand story I heard about the one time he did turn up to a club. Didn't have the right gear despite what was being told to him, didn't take well to any of the club rules and even if the bout he put up on his channel is anything to go by? Broke a few rules. Tripped, grappled, went to the ground when the club doesn't do that. Wasn't invited back, wasn't wanted back is being very polite about it.
I really didn't want to add to the negativity...but he's just become a knobhead. his attack on your character amounts to exactly nothing. you do you because you're awesome and a positive force in the community and we all know that. your positivity and his lack thereof speak for themselves ❤

Shads the sort (and i remember this from his live streams with his original staff when he attempted to expand out of swords and stuff) who would get red in the face whenever someone stated facts he disagreed with- but as long as that said person (one of his own employees) stated that "its just my opinon" shad would let it go, but if not- shout loudly about it. Tells you everything you need to know honestly.
It's incredible that you weren't even trying to fight Shad on this and he still managed to lose. I'm so sorry that you're going through all this stress, but in the end you stood your ground, was respectful, and came out the bigger man. And I personally think that refusing communication, because of a "thumbs up" on a comment - is not a good look, but I won't elaborate because that would imply Shads motivation for handling it this way, and I'm not confident that it is productive.

Hey man, don’t even worry about it. It was literally just Shad being Shad and doing what Shad has done for years now. He seems to love manufacturing drama to make himself look good for his subs.
He will never agree to speak with you publicly because he knows that he won’t be able to keep up the facade he sold to his audience. It’s really sad to see how far he’s fallen as once upon a time, like 2017-2018, Shad had no problem admitting he was wrong and correcting himself publicly in videos. Now, though, he’s insufferable.
It’s best to completely ignore anything Shad is doing these days, and only respond if he agrees to speak publicly, or makes an apology video for intentionally attacking your character and presenting a false narrative about you for clicks.

I drifted away from watching Shad as he became more and more reactionary. The last straw for me was a video in which he informed women what sort of men they are all supposed to find attractive based on his extensive research (looking at romance novel book covers, yes I am serious). It was ignorant, degrading, and at no point did it have anything worthwhile to say about either of the two reasons I subbed to him: castles and swords. Since then he's further degenerated into reactionary rage against popular media, as if there aren't enough of those channels. I guess that's not working out so well so it's time for drama. It's a shame, he has a lot of talent as a presenter and I miss his older stuff. I think the algo is making people dumber, less cooperative, less kind. Glad I found this channel!

Ok, so it's in relation to the troll PhoenixBlaze1776, who in the comments Shads brought up here has attacked one of Sellsword Arts supporters while calling Sellsword a liar in the same comment, made the "doesn't pass the sniff test" remark to Sellsword himself, responded to the supporter again with more insults aimed at both the supporter and Sellsword, including accusing Sellsword of banning people.
You know what? Sellsword is allowed to ban Trolls who attack him like PhoenixBlaze1776 has. And given this troll has attacked Sellsword and one of his supporters repeatedly is it really surprising that someone getting flooded with Troll attacks is going to end up making just as nasty a remark back, or nastier?

He just says not to take accept tests of a combat technique with a specific weapon's viability in combat from someone who has not tested it in combat with an accurate portrayal of that weapon. In his followups he also clarifies that several of his own tests don't meet that standard, which to his credit he calls out in his own videos and why the test isn't fully realistic to a live combat scenario.
There was nothing wrong with Shadiversity's videos, they weren't name dropped or targeted, there was no reason for Shad to react at all - but he's released two long videos with cropped and misrepresented snips from Sellsword Arts to win an imagined argument, which is utterly reprehensible.
We expect that behaviour from politicians, not history fans.

I've spoken with Matt Easton (Scholagladiatoria), Lloyd (Lindybeige), and Jason Kingsley (Modern History TV), about them producing co-operative videos. They weren't very enthusiastic at that point, but they were all friendly, open, and charming. Shad was quite dismissive. I mention all that because the UK 'arms and armour' guys have subsequently made many collaborative videos. Shad accepted their invitation to visit them and participate, but in a short space of time he managed to alienate them.
I suggest you challenge Shad to a duel. That would be real entertainment!

Shad claimed throughout the entirety of his 1 hour video that David was outright stating that if someone doesn't practice Hema then you shouldn't be watching their content. Where in David's actual video he states that if you're going to take technical advice about swordsmanship then the person that you're getting that advice from should practice actual swordsmanship but you should continue to watch anybody you want to that you actually find genuinely entertaining. His entire point is that if someone's going to try and hand out technical knowledge on swordsmanship and they need to actually practice said swordsmanship. They only did that because he is openly right-wing and these days you must belong to one of two teams for some fucking reason. Everyone else is an enemy.
I used to watch Shad before I started HEMA and eventually found sellsword. When I told my instructor I watched shadiversity, he told me that shad didn't actually do HEMA and it blew me away! I had no idea. And that's the problem! Shad is speaking from a place of authority that he actually doesn't have. It's intentional and you both know it. And he most likely won't talk to you because I think he's embarrassed about doing so and knows you have a point.
Aus HEMA person here. Third, very third hand story I heard about the one time he did turn up to a club.
Didn't have the right gear despite what was being told to him, didn't take well to any of the club rules and even if the bout he put up on his channel is anything to go by? Broke a few rules. Tripped, grappled, went to the ground when the club doesn't do that.
Wasn't invited back, wasn't wanted back is being very polite about it.

He takes things outta context, doubles down, pretends he did nothing wrong or didn't mess up, and has no problem with his toxic fans leaving really messed up comments and harrassing people. Shads the sort (and i remember this from his live streams with his original staff when he attempted to expand out of swords and stuff) who would get red in the face whenever someone stated facts he disagreed with- but as long as that said person (one of his own employees) stated that "its just my opinon" shad would let it go, but if not- shout loudly about it.

It's incredible that you weren't even trying to fight Shad on this and he still managed to lose. I'm so sorry that you're going through all this stress, but in the end you stood your ground, was respectful, and came out the bigger man. I am a fan of shadiversity because I like cool weapons content. That said, I like your professionalism, humility, and your wonderful content. Transparency is important for everything (imo). Kudos to you for being a genuine person and awesome creator!
