Christopher Ward TRIDENT PRO 300 - Better Than Tudor

  • The new Christopher Ward Trident Pro 300 is one of the best dive watches under $5000. I am amazed by the quality and it is definitely on par with my Tudors; at only a fraction of the price. The attention to detail with the finishing, the beauty of the case, the thinness, and the exceptional bracelet make it stand out in a very competitive market.

Nice review and video, I have this model too with the same colour combo (38mm). What I like about it is that not only is it great in the tool/utility department with it's specs but that it also is great because of it's styling and size. It looks great on a sailcloth strap when I'm going out or in formal occasions too. Great all rounder!

My C60 300 came in yesterday. It is phenomenal. The finishing quality feels just as nice as my omega SMP. The bracelet is 10/10. I love the on-the-fly micro adjust! The hands and bezel line up perfectly. The bezel action is perfect. I can never go back to seiko. Love the clean aesthetic. Love how thin and comfortable it is while also having great wrist presence. To me this is literally the perfect watch! On my timegrapher this watch is running +7 seconds out the box at 0.2 ms beat error. Not bad at all!

Great review. I'm a big fan of CW and have a c60 pro 600 gmt and absolutely love it. It's funny you do not like the display caseback because that was the one feature I really wanted that the pro 600 GMT didn't have. When I first saw the Pro 300 I was extremely happy to see they featured a display caseback.

I was so impressed by the quality of the CW watch in this review that I just ordered a blue Trident Pro 300 in 42 mm, on a bracelet. I have two Steinharts which I thought had set the benchmark in terms of value for money, but this new version of the Trident Pro seems to take this to a whole new level.

    • @2011blueman
      @2011blueman 6 місяців тому

This watch is $1,100 USD, Steinharts are generally in the $600-800 USD range with a few exceptions. Your Steinharts have movements that are one grade higher than the one used in the Trident Pro 300. The Trident uses the standard grade Sellita SW200-1 movement. Steinharts use at minimum the Spécial (Elaboré) grade of the SW200-1 movement (they moved to Sellita after ETA movements became unavailable). In other words, your Steinharts are more accurate watches. This reviewer is more interested in jewelry than watches.

Question, what is it about the display caseback you dislike - we need details! Added thickness? Prefer the trident caseback with the wonderfully raised trident?
Also, the singular of indices is index, not indice. Lots of people make that mistake.

Nice and detailed review, found by chance. Gonna subscribe!
I agree with every word (except that I like to see the mechanism through the case back).
I, too, own the Hydroconquest, the latest version, and the CW's steel bracelet is of considerably higher quality than that of the Longines (and not just because of the use of screws instead of pressure pins). The CW's bezel is also superior to the bezels of all the diver's I own (some of them more expensive than the Trident).
Definitely a best-buy! Guys, do not hesitate to buy this reference (or the blue one, or whatever color you like, and find); you will not be disappointed.
Worn everyday it does -1spd, while in timebox it does +2-3spd, in my experience.
Definitely not the last CW watch I am gonna own...

Excellent video. You just sold me on this watch. I was considering the Seiko SPB143 but with it's QC issues and the new pip at 3oclock as well as the gap in the end links I am turned off. CW is insane value and quality and extremely underrated in the watch world. I'd take this over Oris Aquis or even the Sinn 104 because the Sinn costs almost twice as much now and doesn't even give you a ceramic bezel and it's clasp is terrible. Also I don't like how it has double sided hex screws in the links. I will definitely go with CW!

I have the CW C60 Pro 300 and I used to have a Pelagos and IMO the Tudor is a much better watch. The CW loses about 13 seconds a day, the Pelagos was a consistent +1 to +2 seconds a day. The bracelet and clasp on the CW is not in the same league as the Pelagos . The clasp on the CW does not always close properly while on the wrist. Overall the CW is a nice watch and worth the money, just not as nice as the Tudor.

@Paul Griffin Hi Paul, I think the blue is fine, the polished indices really pop against it. I was going for the black, my usual preference, but blue on the bracelet looks really nice. The bracelet is really high quality, beating the one on my Omega SMP. Being totally nitpick, I would like a slightly shorter clasp but it's comfortable and weighty, a real upgrade for the watch. If you look at a Tissot Powermatic 80, then a CW63, Iknow which one you'd pick.

The only real difference between CW and more expensive brands is the intricacies of the movements and the prestige of the brand name you are paying for. Otherwise the finishing quality on the CW is just as good as any "high end brand" and the sellita sw200-1 is an excellent movement that can be just as accurate as a COSC chronometer and it's robust so you don't have to spend hundreds servicing it every few years. CW is literally the best bang for buck in the watch world.

I agree. I own 5 Tudors and have owned around 15 C.Wards in the past, ranging from 2018 until 2022. I would say there are no quality differences with their newer models and if anything, the usability of the new CW’s are much better and clearly the value too.
I am a sucker for Rolex/Tudor design language though and I feel CW’s offerings of late seem a little bland for my taste - hence why I sold my very last CW just this morning on eBay as my collection was getting out of control. I hope to own a new CW again soon though!

This guy is more obsessed with the bracelet links than the actual watch. The Tudor Pelagos has an in-house Chronometer movement with 70 hour power reserve. The Trident Pro 300 uses the standard grade version of the Sellita SW200-1 movement with a 36 hour power reserve and up to +/- 30 sec/day accuracy. The reason the Tudor Pelagos is a far superior and more expensive watch is because of the titanium and the far superior movement. If you have no appreciation of that then you should sell the Tudor. Christopher Ward makes good watches, I own the Bel Canto and the C1 moonglow. However, to say that a Trident Pro 300 is better than the Tudor Pelagos is absurd.

How have I not heard of this brand? non of the mainstream youtubers for watches cover this brand. wtf is that? seems like an incredible deal. Of all this time, it is the first watch that i would rather buy over a clone. This is the shit ive been looking for. I'm sick of looking at ugly $3k homage watches, or straight up poor mans rolex that still cost $4k. None of it made sense to me over buying a good clone. Until i seen this watch.

Is it a decent watch. Of course. But it’s a $1050 watch. Can’t be compared to any watch you’ve shown or mentioned. Honestly I can’t even take this review seriously.

Unfortunately due to the condition of the piece, we are not able to offer a full refund on this occasion.
Our 60/60 guarantee requires the watch to be in pristine, unworn condition in order to be eligible for a full refund, unfortunately we have not received the piece back in this condition. However, it's not all bad news. We would like to offer you a partial refund of 70% of the full price of the watch, as we will be able to resell it in our "Nearly New" range.
If this sounds suitable for you, please let us know and we can action the partial refund immediately. If not, we will be more than happy to send the watch back to you.
