Storyline:
Porter (Mel Gibson) is bad, but his neighbours are worse. Street-wise and tough, an ex-marine, he is betrayed by a one-time partner, and shot in the back by his junkie wife. He survives and returns, looking to recover his share from the robbery of an Asian crime gang. The money has passed into the hands of "the Outfit", a slick gangster organisation that runs the city. He has to make his way through a world populated by heroin dealers, prostitutes, sado-masochists, gunmen and crooked cops, a place where torture is a way of life. His only friend is a former employer, a prostitute, and her loyalty is in question, given she now works for the Outfit. He makes good early progress, but then falls into the hands of Fairfax, the crime boss.....
I think it's such an underrated film, one of my favourites. the characters in it, the acting, the one liners.. but most of all the humour and enjoyment watching it even though it's a gritty thriller.. definitely gibsons finest hour
Absolutely well said. Actually a fun movie!
Literally one of my favorite films
Very very underrated movie...Mel was great in it, so was Gregg Henry, David Paymer and the late James Coburn.
To this day, Payback remains one of my favorite movies (both theatrical and director's cut) because it has that real edge.
One of the best films ever! Love James Coburn too! The whole cast was great! Maria Bello! Gerrrrr!
She’s gorgeous.

Bravo!
I Loved This Movie
When It Came Out 😄!
Nah, actually it was the OTHER way around, the original film Helgeland aspired to make was harder, sharper and tried to stay closer to the original source material - the novel "The Hunter" and "Point Blank" the first film adaptation with Lee Marvin) without all the witty dialogue - which i actually really like about the first cut, i think both versions are entertaining)
On my top five
I love this movie Good times
The funny thing about this making of is that it shows the two movies Payback was. It was made as a kind of comedy, but Gibson saw it as a thriller and recut it.
Esta es una de mis películas favoritas...
IF MEL DON'T MAKE A SEQUAL TO THIS MOVIE...I WILL BE PISSED FOREVER! BEEN PISSED SINCE 1999 DAMMIT!
I agree, it is a damn good movie. I still want paypack 2 with LucyLiu though...

What was that boys name that guy jhonny in the end that they left in the apartment. What is his real name?
kickass movie,it sucks that you have to buy to watch movie
Mel Gibson and the studio were put off in regards to this darker edgier version so sold something to audiences expecting a more run-a-mill action thriller
Lucy Liu has an chinese accent
