- I review the AMX 13 57, a tier 7 premium French light tank in World of Tanks (WoT), with replays of tier 9 Murovanka and Pilsen battles.
The 13 57 pairs a compact burst, high DPM autoloader with excellent vision control.
Strengths and Weaknesses
+ Superb compact burst (720 in 7 sec)
+ Superb view range (390)
+ Excellent DPM, unusual for an autoloader
+ Excellent camouflage
+ Slightly above-average HP (890)
+ Small profile
- Poor gun depression (-6)
- Intra-clip reload (1s) is much faster than aim time (2.3s base), so if you fire as soon as the next shell has been loaded, the shot may be inaccurate
- Considering the high rate of fire, has low ammo capacity (54)
- Poor armor, but enough to avoid greater-than-triple overmatch
- Somewhat sluggish for a squishy light

Yeah I never understood the concept of "Kill Stealing" I mean we're all part of a team the object of which is to destroy the enemy team. So destroy them. If you killing an enemy denies me a medal, but helps us win then I don't have a problem with that. Just do it. Lets win.
Couldn't agree more. It really gets my teeth grinding when ppl bitch about others "kill stealing", especially when they are close to a Top Gun. One notable jerk popped me the other day because I took a kill that would have netted him a TG, going on about me being a "kill stealer". The thing is he did f*** all damage that match because *he* was shadowing me and getting the last shot on whatever I was shooting at. Gorram hypocrite. I honestly don't believe in the concept of "kill stealing" (I subscribe to the school of "if you can see it and kill it....do it") but if I did that one guy would be the epitome as it were.
Yep. The most abundant medal I have is Confederate. I rather my team take that shot and we win than giving me the kill. I play mostly mediums and I think there main job is to get in and cause as much mayhem as they can. Damaging multiple tanks to one shot for the team is a good medium goal. If you have a kill shot, take it. I can assure you I will.
It depends on, if I move to take a hit and in order to position myself to take out a target and you then move in a do the killed after my sacrifice, then its kill stealing.

I came back to WoT after a couple of years with just a few battles here and there, found your videos. I find them very entertaining, your smooth commentary is spot-on and sometimes you make plays I would not think of. The main thing with me is to be more methodical and a little less aggressive and your videos definitely help with that.
The irritating thing is it's hard to keep increasing WN8 while playing tanks like Chi-Ri and stock St. Emil :D

Dude! I played against you last night on Overlord. You were in your new French wheeled light tank. I was in my mutant trying to get a mission done. For the first time ever your team ran everyone, including a T-95, down the zero line right where I was. Sadly half of my team went beach, so obviously I got destroyed, although I did get one hit on you. Thanks for that! It was fun.

I just watched this video and improved overnight. Just finished top player, 4 kills, 1906 damage, and a 4910 WIN 8. My avg wn8 sucks at 851. Thank you!

Great video. I watched QBs video on these when it came out and he seemed to think it was not all the over powered. Then I met them on the battlefield and they are absolutely overpowered. Not invisible hover levels but still ridiculous. I have been killed by players in these things who were actually pretty bad but I couldn’t one shot them whereas they could 8 shot me. In my experience the tracks are also kind of ridiculous. On multiple occasions i have landed solid shots against the side of these only to have shot do “critical damage” to the tracks but no real damage. Even if I do manage to tack the tracks off the track repair will be much shorter than my reload so it is utterly meaningless unless somebody else shoots and hits him. I can understand if I am in a Tier V or VI tank and his tracks absorb the shot. It makes less sense when it is a Tier IX TD 276 pen. That is probably enough pen to go all the way through this tank and come out the other side.

Very informative as usual! Funny how this tank (which is better than tech tree version) came out without a blip couple years ago, is-3a comes out and it's the end of the world...I think this tank has way more influence over a win than the former.
Great videos Taugrim, I have both and strangely do better in the 13-75 also. Appreciate the Pilsen map advice Ensk is the other map I dislike (too small!). One tank I'd love you to look at is my guilty pleasure, the tier 4 british t.d. the Alecto. Increadibly stealthy, good speed (50kph), great gun choise and half-decent view range for it's tier. Yes there is no armour or turret but I'd love to see what you could do in it.
I really enjoy your explanations earned a sub from me really gives me some new perspective. Im still new with only 1.5 k games and only wn8 of 1450 but Ill hopefully get better with advice like this.
If you already have a WN8 that high after only 1.5k games you are in super rare company. It's also a great sign that you're taking the time to study early.
I learn a lot from your videos. Made me a better player. I actually purchased this tank after watching your video and like it fine.
If influential players like you and other well knowns had insisted to WG they give us the Option to que for no arty battles and to que for balanced teams instead of the 65% to 35% crap we are forced into WG could have been one of the most popular games of all time.

Most players drive light tanks incorrectly. They either over-yolo, or they over-kempbush. The key to playing lights well is a mix of smart active scouting, working in damage, and passive spotting.

There is no Kill Stealing, You get the kill or you dont. Very wise and very true.

People don´t hate unicums. They just know that a unicum enemy player is the most important one to kill.
Great tank, love it. I run vstab, net and optics. I run around quite a bit but the net allows me to hide better on the right map and situation.
IMO Camo Net is always a waste in light tanks from tiers 6-10.
Why?
If you are stationary, you better be in a bush.
If you are in a bush, you already have such good camo that nothing will see you until they are meaningfully close (< 100m).
Spotting mechanics, And ya behind a bush defiantly. I don’t know the algorithms exact. I figured the net stacks even more. Just paranoid of getting spotted while passive bush spotting and sniping situations. Vents are intriguing. I’ll have to practice backing up prior to shooting. Lol. I’ll swap it out and give it a try. I am very bad on Pilsen in general but especially when I'm in my light tank. When I'm in light tanks there I just passive scout until late into the match.
Yea, understood.
I tend to be much more reactive instead of proactive on Pilsen, relative to how I normally play lights. It's a punishing map for lights.

Arty doesn't "hate unicums". Arty shoots at unicums because they are the most dangerous players on the enemy team most of the time. Getting rid of the most skilled and dangerous player increases your chances of winning, even if you would personally do poorly, because you are focusing on executing one player, rather than maxing out your damage.

Taugrim is great player and best WoT streamer, but I do not agree always with his equipment choice, as here for Skorpion G, I use coated optics over binos on it, even on Grille, because they are very mobile TD's for tier and optics really gives you spot dmg on moving. Also that tanks have bad cammo comparing it to strv or SU-130PM, so after shots almost everytime (if you are not near hard obstacles) you need to relocate if you want to stay alive.
P.S. My advice is to make word or pdf document with equipment list for tanks you reviewed. Cheers.
On console i use the tier 7 french light non premium, most damage i ever got was 4500 dmg with 8 prem shells for 2 clips , best game i ever had with it

Hey Taugrim, I was wondering, since you only play with silver, how to you manage poor penetration tanks, especially when bottom tier such as the T69, or when being stock???
1. go to areas of the map where I can get flanking fire and/or fire on softer targets
2. if the stock gun on an unlocked tank is crap, I save up Free XP to unlock an upgraded gun

Good video like usual and using nothing but standard ammo that's crazy. Even though I stopped playing this game for awhile because it has turned to crap. Never mind the players that are so unskilled in this game but you can only take so many years of that crap like 7 was way t o much so I need a break from the madness...… But good skills you have there. Also these new wheeled tanks I am not about that rite now and this game is nothing but drama. But hey I don't hate unicums I just now they can carry a game if they stay alive to bad there isn't a different name then unicum cause its more like a knowledgeable player that plays smart unlike 3/4 of the people that play WoT.

I'm still averaging ~1.5k DPG with 100% silver ammo in Random Battles in the 13 57, but I used to be closer to ~1.6k.

That is true, but I've been trolled many times - by players of my own team - for simply being purple. I've also heard other content creators speak negatively about Unicums.
And there are tons of commonly-held stereotypes about Unicums that IMO are largely bogus: e.g. they cheat, they all spam gold, they only play FOTM tanks, etc.
@@taugrim I'd say you're the type of unicum to look up to. You can bring the strength of a tank and reduce the weaknesses. It's much easier to become a unicum if you play the best tanks.
I'm sure of that because my stats started bleeding as soon as I started to play fun tanks that I just enjoy even when I do bad.
I've never been one for stats and I still have a lot to learn about map use but I think if I dedicate solely to wot instead of a plethora of games then I'd improve significantly, especially using your tips.
My best results are in light tanks
There is Unicum hate, but when I played arty a lot I tended to focus them, and not out of hatred. I admire good players for the most part. (A few, inevitably, are dicks.) But they’re dangerous when they’re on the other team. (I have all but given up playing arty as I’ve improved at the game, BTW. I sold all my tier 10 SPGs long ago.)
@@matthbva well I've seen arty lose the game because they were xvm hunting instead of focusing on vulnerable flanks and so forth.
Not everyone is cut out to play arty and so not everyone should play it. If you're better in a different tank you will be much more useful to the team than playing a tank you can't use the full potential
Flavia Pitariu I ran 58%-60% win rates in most of my SPGs back in the day, which was better than any other tank class I played at the time. Ability was not the issue.
Does that engine repair happen on the console as well? I don't look often when my engine is destroyed. More times than not I use a repair kit.
Broken engine can be repaired, but the engine is extremely sluggish.. You have to burn a kit to get the engine back to normal performance.
My thought on "kill stealing" is that other people also want to have good end plates, and some of them are trying to mark their tanks. If someone complaining about kill stealing needs more damage, they should be more proactive throughout the battle. Asking for a medal or a mission is like a softer form of rigging to me. Not as awful as for the T-22, but other players don't owe you the assist.
Hmm. You said it was smarter to run Binocs on squishy TDs. I personally use Rammer, GLD and Optics on Skorpion G. I got 3k avg dmg and 3 marks after 95 games. I personally thought it was much better with that setup, instead of Rammer, Cammo Net and Binocs.

I was surprised this tank wasn't in the loot boxes this year.
The carrot on the stick for the loot boxes was the revamped IS-3A.
I'd guess WG had the month mapped out and knew they'd throw in the AMX 13 57 late in the Advent Calendar, and that the 13 57 would probably sell well since it's a popular but rarely available tank.

The 13 75 has much better p/w, unloads much faster and aims faster than intra clip.
It also has more engine health and is less likely to be set on fire.
And also 13 75 bleeds less speed through turns
That may be why I personally did better in the 13 75. The gun handling is more fitting for an autoloader.
All of that falls in to the water when you see view range and 57 has 20m more, that is what is all about in light tank role.

Do you play with no premium ammo because: a. You enjoy the challenge, b. Free to play account, c. Feel this tank does not need it, or d. WoT purist. Not judging, just wondering. Great games btw
He dislikes Gold because it breakes Heavy Tank balance. He playes silver only.

@@Terme- i like this mentality didnt shot a gold round atleast 6-7k matches i think gold ruins every heavy tank and heavies what are unpenetrateable without gold should get some weakpoints like the type 4-5. or obj279 e
There's also the issue that special ammo has trade offs, heat is slower and can't pen most spaced armour and apcr losses a lot of pen at range, sometimes to the point that ap would be on par with apcr at extreme range.
Because wargaming nailed those historical traits, I wonder why they didn't nail the historicalb scarcity of these special purpose rounds, for example the pz iii only had 5 apcr rounds at most

The 13 57 is one of those tanks I really enjoy playing and am pretty good in it but my winrate doesn't reflect it... Consistent bad luck hoovers over that tank like an over protective mother.
We watched The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and the show is truly worthy of the accolades.

No, I've heard some players run that for a more aggressive playstyle, and have success with it. I'm more comfortable playing it as a sniper for the first half of the battle though.

Taugrim, this is one of the first times I actually disagree with you, but normal WoT players don't hate unicums. this is a part that I think you got wrong. the only reason why enemy teams target unicum players is because the unicums are a high priority as they are the ones with the experience and the easiest way to not get absolutely wrecked by them is for the whole team to take them on. sure I think that sometimes it can go out of hand, but on the bright side you have the skill to take on the enemies. And as I said unicums are just a high priority, normal people don't usually hate them.
getting trolled by your teammates is not necessarily because you are a unicum. those players (Probably using XVM) shouldn't troll you as they see that you can help to secure the victory. the people that troll you are not smart enough to realize their mistake, and they will troll anyone they want to. so the only people that will actually troll you because you are a unicum are the people that just don't really think. ua-cam.com/video/_8k1B9epKjE/v-deo.html this is a link to a video in Russian. have you played much amx1375 since the GREAT LT NERF??? i would guess most of your stats would be pre-nerf when the tech tree tank was on par with the premium...
I unlocked and played the AMX 13 75 this year: 69% WR, 6k WN8 (my highest of any tank).
What "GREAT LT NERF" are you talking about? Do you mean the changes in 0.9.18? IMO the changes were largely beneficial to light tanks, and platooning with them.
i am a big fan of your work and have no doubt your stats you claim are accurate, keep up the great content!
however in my humble opinion, LTs which have always had a high skill ceiling (and the reason i appreciate your content so much) had their skill floor raised considerably when the tech tree lines were extended to tier X. and as someone who was fairly new to the game at that time and has horribly mismanaged my crews i find it difficult to play the class i really enjoy

Unicum is a term coined by the WoT community to denote players who are rated in the top 1% in terms of measurable performance (i.e. stats) that are publicly available for each player.
The most widely-used and credible community-created rating system is known as WN8. No rating system is perfect, but WN8 addressed many of the flaws from earlier rating systems.
The WN authors performed extensive statistical analysis of player data from stat sites (e.g. VBAddict and Noobmeter) to determine which stats correlate with winning. They used to manually derive “expected values” for every tank every few months, but eventually the XVM mod team automated the calculation of expected values on a daily basis.
An individual player is measured against these expected values for each tank the player has played, using the player’s data that is publicly available through the WoT API for Random Battles (aka “public battles” or simply “pubs”), and then an aggregate calculation is used to determine a single WN8 number for that player’s account.
Keep in mind that the WoT API does not provide some of the stats that you see in-game. E.g. in-game you can see assisted damage for each tank, whereas in the WoT API that data is only available at the account level. Ratings systems such as WN8 can only work with the data available in the WoT API.

Killstealing is such a childish concept, I fully agree with you.
Also, there will be no balancing of premium tanks Taugrim. There are very strict laws in place EU concerning the change to purchased virtual goods. As the EU is the cash cow of WG and WG would face a refund battle for every rebalanced tank they will not do it!
Remember the proposed rebalancing starting with the KV 5 earlier this year? WG go so many threats to be sued for premium tank refunds they backpedaled quickly. Of course, they did not list this reason for it.

I'm not expecting the 13 57 to be changed / nerfed. A lot of owners would be VERY unhappy if the 13 57 were nerfed, even if it would be better for the balance of the game.
I just wanted to make clear why the 13 57 is mechanically strong.
As I've talked about in other places I'm not in favor of tanks that are so much stronger than others - especially ones that have to be purchased with real money - as its bad for the game's long-term health and player population.
People hate unfairness, and even moreso when it's P2W or P4A (Pay for Advantage).
@@taugrim I fully agree with you there. I just wanted to state why it will most probably not happen. The recent influx of overpowered premium tanks and repeated reselling of tanks that were removed because they were overpowered (E-25) is not good for the game, but WG main interest is in money making not game balance. I think they have proven that to us. They only ever change things when their cash flow is threatened.
@@petrameyer1121 The ironic thing IMO is the tendency of WG to seek profits instead of game balance between classes and specific tanks is going to hurt the population over the long term. F2P players are going to be wary or turned off by WoT's P2W / P4A (Pay for Advantage) mechanics. And every F2P game needs F2P players to maintain a healthy population, and some of those players convert to paying customers in time and/or get their friends to play it.
From what I heard from the NA CCs, such concerns about balance having an adverse affect on the game were shared at the office in Belarus but were largely ignored by WG staff. It is what it is, sadly.
@@taugrim AFAIK they are working on BOT tanks for the SOE servers, or they may already be in the game there. WG main player base is on their Russian servers (not counting China's as those are not run by WG). But most of those players seem to be F2P. Here in Europe we simply feel as if we are WG cash cows, but even cows can get unhappy with time. :)
But WG serves their Russian player base first. Check the overpowered Russian tanks and the hilarious Russian Scorpion G variant they introduced recently because it can not be that the most played Prem tank is German.
@@petrameyer1121 Does this EU law you speak of override the terms of service of WoT? If I'm understanding correctly, 8.2 (g) in the ToS would cover nerfing premiums, would it not? Not to mention the multiple instances of basically "NO REFUNDS!"
I'm legitimately curious, as someone I know has said that thanks to the ToS people don't have the grounds to sue Wargaming if they were to nerf a premium tank.
I hate seeing this tank on the other team, and almost always focus them down if I get a chance.
Why so many haters-this map is great for this tank. Just sit along the 0 line and spot, then pick off the dumb ones who rush the coal lumps-works every time :)
When you deal 4k damage but the team still dies.
Kill stealing is a thing. If you take damage and take a enemy tank down from 100% to say 7% and a guy on your team has just sat behind cover and not tried to help, but as soon as the enemy is a one shot that “friendly” player who is at 100% because they have taken no risk now moves and decides to now expose them selves, they are kill stealing. And it happens.
In that case that team mate is being largely irrelevant. I'd rather have 3k damage and 0 kills than 500 damage with 3 kills. The former is far more meaningful towards winning in most cases.

I use Food to get view range up to 445+m for tanks that have low view range (e.g. 360-370 base) if I can't get there with crew skills + Optics.
I still maintain this tank is far superior to the AMX 13 75. What few weaknesses it has are still outweighed heavily by it's strengths.

That fucker is OP.. I run it with Food and Directives. It will bump out some DPS...
For some reason I am better with amx13 75 either. This tank feels sluggish and I am not that good in yolo type scout play.
@Flavia Pitariu pointed out that the 13 75 has better gun handling (aim time, etc) and retains its speed better. So I think that might explain why.
I also am not terribly comfortable with yolo scout play, as I feel it leaves too much to chance.
I don't hate unicums, I do try to focus them out of gamer pride. I hate camping, gold spamming enemies

If a aggressive scout is approaching Arty, I will let them take the arty out, and assist as needed if he gets killed. If they Help win the game I have no problem letting them reap the reward of arty.

Well i think killstealing is real. I have been rammed or intentionaly shot blocked for people to get last shot.

Face it, some people are just small minded. They never have played a sport where they would sacrifice themselves for someone else. Or another thought is that they would never throw themselves on a hand grenade to save other lives. Not the type of people I want to play with.

YOLO = You Only Live Once, usually said in games when a player is reckless

People hold back shot to do kill steal on European server!
Some players do that on every server, but I think it's counter-productive. You want to be firing as often as possible. That will give your team the best chance to win, and frankly it's better for your stats too.
When you are in a 2 v 1. your winning it. and then 1 random dude killes them for 200 damage. and there you are.. 2 v 1.. nobody helps.. but at the end random a dude steals everything you worked for. thats why

I've only used silver ammo in Random Battles on this account, which is my first and original.
The best way to balance the 13 57 is to cut view range by 20, increase intra clip to 1.75 and reduce the aim to 1.7.
That way the capacity of the tank would improve while being nerfed.
I'd say that's fair and would maintain the character of the vehicle, big burst, slow to turn and underpowered and requiring binocs for passive work early on then move to active.
That's my best result in French lts, they are great for flexing later in the game and are ninja for camo
Reducing the view range is fair, but increasing the intra clip that much while maintaining the same alpha would be too steep a nerf IMO. I would rather see the compact burst retained but with a smaller clip, e.g. 4-5 shells. That would make it different from the 13 75. If the intra clip were increased to 1.75, the alpha would need to be increased as well.
If they nerf the tank that bad I would expect my money back, in that case, I would expect money back if they nerf it for any amount
It won't get nerfed. As other posters have pointed out, such changes would run afoul of EU laws.
Plus, I don't see this tank to be so OP, as it's aim time is bad for this interclip reload and pennetration is not as great when meeting tier 9 tanks, or even tier 8 sometimes, I play it as YOLO tank most of the time and empty my clip into enemy and usually get 550+ dmg per clip, but considering that average wn8 is arround 900, this is not going to be OP tank for avg player
@@taugrim well giving it any less than 1.7 aim time would be too much of a buff, hence increase intra clip and reduce aim time. Those tiny guns usually have good aim time.
Look at 13 75, 2 sec intra clip with 1.92 aim time, so you can't fire faster than you can aim.
Reduced view range can be compensated with binocs though you increase the required skill.

It's imbalanced, yes. The autoloader burst combined with the view range is imbalancing.
