Bitspeek is already out for Rack Extensions as of last week! And it does stuff that the VST doesn't do... like it supports stereo audio (VST is mono only) and it has CV and audio inputs on the back that let it you access the formant filters inside. It's awesome. And yes, you need to upgrade to 6.5 for Rack Extensions. If you're in 5 you'd either buy the 6 upgrade from a store and download the 6.5 update free from our site after that... or from our shop.

yea you can actually get software to turn your trackpad into a midi controller, im using TouchPad2Midi on windows but im sure there is something similar on mac. its works great on something like a combinator where you assign the x and y of the trackpad to the pitch and modulation wheels, then in the programmer assign things inside the combinator to be controlled by the pitch or mod wheel, which means you can control up to 10 things on each device inside the combinator that way!
Do you mean if you bounce your mixer channels to print them as audio tracks instead? Then no, they'll still be there then. Nothing will disappear from that. The only thing that will disappear from your files would be the Rack Extension you were trialing (which is replaced with a placeholder to let you know it's gone).
i don't have the nocturn but sometimes i got the same problem with automap, but i tried it right now, it works with the R .E
I look at it this way: i just bought a Avid M-Audio 32 key KB to midi trigger the Reason 6 DAW demo I have been testing for about a month. I am already sold on the sound quality and, as I am learning it now, I hope to learn to use it with other programs more, vst's, rewires and all that to tailor my own sound, eventually. Not there yet; just scratching the surface and, then there is the world of one's own samples! and beatslice edits, MIDI loop rewrites, ect ad infinitum; just about.
Definitely agree on that one, wasn't expecting them to be this expensive :( looks so good though!

Stable environment, no anti-USER activation schemes and a sexy as can be GUI. Priceless!!!

Times are indeed hard on a Global scale, but the Euro has more purchase power then the U.S Dollar. All I know is, my plugin budget will get me more TOOLS going the RE route instead of the vst route. I think you fellow vst folks are mad at Propellerhead for finally stepping their game up.
Yeah we're working on making one of those hex-key tools into an instrument and giving it a weird name like the "Pålöker"
Pricing strategy 101 - price skimming, give developers higher margins to convince them to handle rack extensions more enthusiastically. Also when other firms see the high margins available in the industry, they will quickly enter.
The top segment of the market which are willing to pay the highest price are skimmed of first. When the product enters maturity the price is lowered. (hopefully!)
You guys should definitely make a spectrum analyser that can play pink noise. Would be so handy :D

have you seen the Nektar Panorama yet? that was made to work with reason, dunno if its what your after though
do you need to be connected to the net (always) in order to us e Re.... meaning always having an internet connect just to use (not buy) but simply use the Re ?
btw, my favorite reason sounds were combinator patches people not associated with propellerhead made

you forget the added versatility of rack extensions - you can flip the units patch them all together. Good luck patching VSTs in logic, pro tools, etc! Are they a little overpriced? Maybe so, but there is certainly value there
does it work with your trackpad? got a mac and i´m interested to work with the trackpad - control reason . would be fun :D

NO, just to demo an RE and initially install/register to your Ignition Key or Balance. Once they're purchased and on your key, you're completely 100% free to disconnect from the web.
Hi...I bought Korg Polysix rack extension and am not able to use it because it doesn't show up. I downloaded the extension (If I go to Windows -> Rack Extension), it shows. However, if I go to the device palette or instrument selection menu, I don't see the Polysix. I see all the other Reason instruments.
The funny thing is when I first downloaded Polysix, it worked fine. Now all of a sudden I can't.
I am using Win Vista btw.
i got the sl mk2 . with the program ( which comes with the controller) called AUTOMAP u can control everything in reason. so its a good investment

While I agree with some of the negative comments, one must also not forget that Propellerheads is still a company. And a company needs a profit to survive. So its only logical that they start to look for other ways to earn a living. Still, I do agree that the PHeads seem to be losing their touch; IMO Reason 6 / 6.5 hardly stands out as much as it used to (owning Reason 4 myself and still damned impressed with it!).
How many times can I try any one "RE"?
Hello Propellerheads, its been a week since I wrote. I still can't get to see Rack Extension (Korg Poly) when I want to select instruments, even though it shows up in my 'Rack Extension' window. I paid $50 but now I can't use it. Please help.
hey just got the nocturn today, i seem to be able to assign things to it, like whatever device is selected, combinator, thor, all that reason stuff, but i dont seem to be able to assign any of the rack extensions parameters, are you having the same problem?
Btw, I tried deleted and re-downloading the Extension from Propellerheads website. Still no success. I see the device in 'Rack Extension Window' but fail to see it in 'Instrument' menu or 'Device Palette' menu.
How can you say that you aren't looking back? Did you cover your eyes while the video was playing? Why did you click on the link to this video if you aren't looking back?
I would think that looking at videos of Propellerhead's new technology and devices is the very definition of looking back.
at first i was very enthusiastic about the rack extentions but now that i see the prices it disapear as snow by the sun :P. My advice would be to somehow get the developers to drop the prices or else this will probably turn out a big fiasco...
mine aren't showing up at all in reason 6.5 and I can't find out why because the forums are down
My studio computer does NOT have internet connection at all (on purpose for safety/stability reasons). I have another computer upstairs with an internet connection and i simply transfer the Ignition key downstairs to run Reason 6.5 without internet. How can i install Rack Extensions on a pc WITHOUT internet connection? Connecting to a LAN or moving the computer is out of the question. Any way to transfer through a USB memory device from the connected computer to the not-connected one??
i used reason for 5 years, tried abelton last month with komplete and im not looking back
damn!
1. i installed reason 6.5.
2. i downloaded and authorized 2 rack extensions: the saturation knob and the pulsar dual lfo
3. when i open the rider "rack extensions" in reason it says: "softube saturation knob INSTALLED" and "pulsar dual lfo 1.0.1. INSTALLED"
4. when i open the tool section or try to create one of those new extensions i CAN'T FIND IT ANYWHERE just as they were not installed!

just bough a novation nocture for the time being until i get enough cash for the keyboard, it has automap, and it has the speed dial on it as well, cant wait for that! its a load of balls trying to control stuff with my laptop trackpad
cool, i think ill wait till christmas to buy the radical piano though, they might have a sale or a price drop by then, if not ill just wait longer and save up . . . christmas 2017!
Most commenters seem to forget that its high quality audio software and not 99c fart apps for the iphone.

Can anyone not see the Korg or Rob Papen RE's?
Doesn't make a lot of sense to me to buy most of these RE when I use reason as mainly a sound module in Ableton, but I can see the use of them if you stay within reason. If they were cheap/low budget most companies would not want to spend the time or money to develop them.
I hope you didn't forget that you can Rewire Reason to another DAW

1.) Reason isn't $500
2.) You don't HAVE to pay $100...they're optional.
3.) So far, Rack Extensions generally are not $100 dollars. Most are below.
4.) People have asked for 3rd party support like VST - which is a system where you add/pay for plugins if you want them. That's this system.
So yes, we think you have more than enough inside Reason to make music but if you feel otherwise...if you feel there's an effect or an instrument you want to add...now you have that choice. Is that so douchey?
It's not douchey at all. $500 is a steal for Reason. Compare what you can do with the program with the real life racks. Compare some of the pieces of real world equipment that do the same thing inside reason. ONE PIECE alone can cost easily over $500. So, if you think propellorhead is douchey think that. You'll be missing out on an amazing piece of software that is extremely powerful and not only teaches you music porduction but is also applies it to real world technology.
Yes, that's because there AREN'T any. The only RE with a listed price so far is pulsar, but that's free with the launch of 6.5 right now. The fact that you can try each RE to it's full extent for 30 days is great. Seems everyone wants something for nothing I guess. People who have the money will pay for it, plus third-party developers will come up with their own prices for their RE's.

so, I spent about 50-80 usd, I think on the little KB but, I don¨'t have to go spend thousands of dollars, I figure on a really nice synth later, or yet, 'til I can afford it, so; it's all plus and minus; you save but, yes it costs and it hurts some of us, abit, I understand that too. I think my KB friend payed over a 1-2000 $s for his Korg M-I in the late 80s or early 90's by comparison. I don't know if the essentials w balance is enough for a guitarist as me. But, I feel pplz r bitchin' alot

i only use reason so it would make sense to get the Nektar, but it doesnt have that magic speed dial button that the novation has...

i just had to laugh when i saw the prices. I'm not even SLIGHTLY close to buying one of these RE's for anything close to that sort of money.

I dont even use vst's as I only have reason... I have never used VSTs in my life and therefore I can't judge their quality.

btw i'm also a programmer, and have dedicated years of my life working on software of which was released free to the public. open-source ideology is a concept not shared by many i suppose.
and 80 euros for a simple extension, as the one in this example video, is ridiculous. i guess it's only theft if you're dumb enough to pay for it though.

having said all that; i conclude, if a single program with packs costs another 100 usd or not, I don't care anymore than if I love the sound of a guitar and, I'd rather have a guitar with good tonewoods, like an old made in the USA epiphone with gold plated tuners, than a flimsy plywood guitar, even with a fancy name but, less quality workmanship and tones. that is what it boils down to: I want something I am happy with and, I will eat oatmeal a month to have it than crappy sounding BS!

You should try and buy real hardware synths and effect generators and see how much that cost.

i know video game designers who spend years on their games and sell them for 5-10$ dollars on steam. I really like propellerheads and i don't work with anything else but those people are literally the most arrogant people to sell their plugins, racks, and refills for such ridiculous prices. 50 dollars for an extension? $100 for a drum refill. your marketing team must be out of their minds. just because something is hard to make doesn't mean it has to be expensive to sell.
is not a rack, another virtual instrument? so, it takes months to learn one basically, so, what is the problem? with 50 or 100 USD, really, when a apple iPhone conversion plug for the same KB costs like 50 usd, if U want to use garageband in iPod/iphone with a MIDI kb, when the program costs only 37SEK or about the price of a BigMac and Co: 5-6 $ Yes, it's digital but, someones put actual manhours to make each sample, with capital equipment that costs plenty, rent, energy on their side,too.o.O

lol at all the price comments, you get to try the software for free for a whole month with no limitations, and each extension is fully built by professionals and integrated into reason; studios and pros will still buy them even if the forum whores wont, because they are looking for quality over price. plus hardware dsp cards and their plugins cost more than these and people have been using them for years. this is just baby steps for the extensions technology, let it be released first, geez
Propellerheads has still not fixed their lack of VST problem. There is a whole world of great VST plugins that work great, and could be useful in Reason. These Rack Extensions are OVER PRICED, and severely limited in their usage. If an artist can only use these on reason, then their creativity is only limited to Reason. Artist want freedom of expression on whatever medium they choose, not freedom of expression in a box.
