The Pocket Osmo 3 is an amazing camera that for be used for vlogging and much more. In this video I talk about how I would use it for shooting live events like weddings. There is one thing that makes me a little reluctant to make this purchase.

I appreciate your angle and opinion, and I do get the part where you discuss it looks like a toy. The thing I can't get past is the fact that you are clearly hired on your skills and past resume of work, no? If I hired a talent, I don't care if they used a flip phone to get the job done, so long as they get the job done the way I've seen it in their reels, etc.
By the way look up "DJI OSMO POCKET 3 - LOW LIGHT vs Sony FX3 ZV-E1 - WEDDING FILMMAKING BEHIND THE SCENES BTS" this guy uses his to film weddings side by side with another camera on the same stick.
I use the Osmo pocket (have 1-3) and my corporate clients love it because it peaks their curiosity and once I show them sample footage they’re blown away. It’s like shooting with a Fuji camera (which is what I use for mirrorless) because the form factor is so unique it intrigues people.
I remember back in early nineties when it was said you're not a professional videographer if you don't have a big shoulder mounted video camera. I had 2 small Sony VX-2000 dv cameras, and no clients said a thing, only the videographers who had the giant heavy cameras. which later they ditched and went small. I have a small 4k gimble that I use for certain shots at weddings and other events, specialty where you can't use a drone. I put it on a pole and get drone looking shots. Planning on upgrading to the Pocket 3 $519 version, lots better in lower light and a 1 in sensor.
Wha a fair point. It is very similar with music gear (amps, guitar cabinets, etc.) People expect a certain image/prestige look/etc. even when it might be fake lol they still would rather have some giant 90s JVC on shoulder type of thing to see this PRO look, etc.
😂 I feel you Bro. That’s why I shoot Weddings with 4 - Panasonic S5 II with the DJI RS3 Mini always connected to one for long tracking 😂
But I will have this for those moments to coverage that otherwise I would not have based on location, off the cuff, hauling weight around for a moment that may or may not come etc. to cut with the LUMIX footage.
For me, I run Timecode with Tentacle Sync E and Track E and this can sync Timecode internally (Jake Sloan) has a video out on this 😮).
Yeah DJI is ahead of the small camera crowd. If they ever release a Mirrorless, which I feel is coming - Houston we have a problem 😂)
Don’t get in your head my friend. I shoot mostly handheld (actually just sold my rs3 pro because I never used it), but picked one of these up for the occasional gimbal shot.
Client perception isn’t the most important thing, your end product is.
Just get it bro. I skipped two generations and this was the one they got right. Save your back and wow them with the end product. Also, I was at a special event today and got loads of attention about my Pocket 3. Everyone is intrigued by it and they are excited to see new camera tech that’s innovative.
I watched your first video about it. It looks good and sounds good. I'm not surprised. I'll be interested in your future videos after you use it some more.
@@MichaelWTurner , I used it today to interview people in full sun, open shade, and partial shade. The dynamic range is stellar for the size!!!
WOW, are you reading my mind? Pocket 1 was fantastic but just like you I only used it on my own “private" shoots. Sold it, as limited confidence to use it in public. My “alpha” photographer won that battle . Forget the Pocket 2, not enough to change my mind ..but… the 3 is outrageous and is the future format for me, DJI and any other major player I reckon. Yes my Mavic 3 classic, RS3 gimbal and R7 are staying around for a very long time because they are my pride and joy and have never let me down. I confidently believe the, yet to be delivered, Pocket 3 will be an asset that will get stronger and stronger. Keep it up DJI, you are changing the “image” world.
Exactly. Eventually these smaller tools will be the norm and we no longer feel as if we are shooting with a toy. That will be the day my back rejoices.
I'm on the fence between the Osmo Pocket 3 and the Panasonic vx981k camcorder. I'm not really into talking head videos, I'm more into showcasing things, indoors mostly, but I would like to do overhead shots every now and then, I also thought about the action 4. what camera do you think is best?
Keep in mind that the osmo pocket lacks zoom capability, but it also has better image quality and would produce a nicer picture indoors. If the zoom wasn't important to me, I would absolutely get the osmo. It's personal preference, though.
Size and weight as an image of professional is something real. Look at how in the DSLR era Nikon and Canon photographers liked heavy and big DSLR. Until Sony went FF mirrorless and making small cameras professional took small cameras serious. Now even a magazine Digital Cameras wrote an article discussion why Sony is not making professional looking cameras. Compare their cameras with Nikon Z8 and Z9, which is helping Nikon be alive. So weight and size gives image of professional.
I'm glad it isn't just me overthinking it. Eventually, everything will keep shrinking and it will be the norm, but for now, it's something to think about. I appreciate your feedback
It did take a while to get the point ... but that's okay. So size matters, you won't look like a pro. Hmm. The results matter, and I suggest the clients find out in advance the tools you use, and see your work.
I appreciate your feedback. Thank you!
Not throwing shade, but funny that the mic clipped as you mentioned the audio being used (sorry DJI)
I recently picked up the rode wireless pro. Amazing for the price!
Not the fault of the mic, though. I had my levels, too hot.
@@MichaelWTurner totally get it…
Coming from the Rode Wireless go ii, I’m astonished by the difference when I’m running a wireless setup, now having to pro. The auto level feature is insanely awesome and then you have the 32 bit float recording on the device itself. Love your videos, keep them coming!
You got a good point ,I’m about to add it to a wedding gig I’m shooting next week, tell you how it goes 😅
😂 Definitely let me know. I mean it.
Yeah I still have the OG pocket. No need to upgrade for me… for reasons you mentioned. I got the original before I had a full-size gimbal, before I had some real good gear. It served me at some weddings at the time but for the reasons you mentioned, it doesn’t get used. It’s definitely a fun device to put a large memory card into and use instead of your smart phone for travel, things like that-
@3:42 neat camera but yeah until ultra compact cameras become more ubiquitous in the pro space, that will be a trade off...limited niche use cases such as a B cam for tight spaces. However, ultimately the results will speak for themselves. If you want to test its capabilities without worrying about your clients perception of you, you can always use this on a cold shoe of some "stunt" rig or attach it anywhere with a 1/4 and use it side other cameras. Then you can confirm if it will fit with your workflow.
That's an option. Thanks!
