So glad i could help you with this device. Seriously love it. I cut the cable over a year ago and I am never going back. This is the future of television. Pay for what you want and nothing else. I just could not see the logic in paying for a cable subscription of 125 channels that I only watched 5 of. Thanks and enjoy.
@Carol Here It should find the Micro SD card automatically and ask you to format it. Roku 3 seems to like the smaller cards 8GB and lower. Really 8GB would be overkill but it should work. Try inserting the card while the unit is on and see what happens. If it does not see it automatically it is not compatible. Try a cheap 8 GB, 4 GB or even 2 GB will work fine. I just tried my 32 GB Sandisk Micro SD and it did not recognize it. I then tried a 2 GB Lexar and it saw it no problem. Thanks
Yes you would need a Roku for every TV in your home. The remotes are keyed to your specific Roku so that would not be a problem. This is what Amazon says about Prime,"You may stream up to two videos at the same time using the same Amazon.com account. You may stream the same video to no more than one device at a time." Hope that helped you. Thanks for watching.
I read a recently-released online article today which claimed that "Roku" will possibly be introducing a new "wi-fi only" (i.e., no Ethernet capability/port) box within the next few months. I wondered why they marked the "3s" down 20 bucks! Your tutorials are great, Richard! Please "keep 'em comin'!"
You are most welcome. They have released a few WIFI only products but the Roku3 is getting a little long in the tooth. There are many competing systems available now but most are not as mature as the Roku3. Thanks for watching and commenting.
You can't legislate talent. You either have it or you don't. I hear Rush on stations in the USA on a quite regular basis and I know it wasn't Canadian content laws that made them great it was raw talent.
Thanks. It think it's much like the old printer cable debate as in, which one do you need what length etc, etc, I just unplugged my HMDI cable from my cable box which I returned to the cable company and used that. LOL! I am also using wireless without issue too. It does have dual band wireless (fast) and WIFI reception is decent 30' and through a wall. Thank you for the feedback on the remote, I would think you would want all the functions that come with the Roku 3 remote as well (audio/motion).
Brian Fetz They are available but mostly as pay for subscription services. Do your research on what is available. Unfortunately I am not a sports fan. Google is your friend.
You need wifi or a regular network cable with an RJ45 connector (Ethernet cable) that connects to your router then from there you need an internet connection.
All you need to use the Roku is a good internet connection and a TV so Cox should have no issue with it. Make sure you have an unlimited internet connection (no download limits) and you should be good to go.
Nice review. I really appreciated the speed test tip via Vudu. But here's a question to all the "unbox" reviewers; do we really need to see you cut open the box and put AA batteries in the remote? I do like your familiarity with Roku-- some people seem to do a video review without any expertise whatsoever. Thanks for taking the time to do this.
I think being thorough in a review helps the widest amount of viewers. Believe it or not some people do not know how to batteries into a remote. Some people don't even know that they need to put batteries in a remote. So I make sure that I cover every aspect. As far as un boxing goes I think people enjoy the unwrapping process whether they are doing it or someone else is.
They added a processor to the Roku 3 that is FIVE times faster than the predecessor, dual band wireless, motion control on the controler as well as WIFI to the controler for longer range and audio. BTW there are many channels available with free movies. New releases will never be "free" they have to make a living too.
Hi great video, been looking into buying the Roku 3, I have questions 1> How to add local news channels? 2> Do you use many apps to get other cable network mini series shows like HBO shows. 3> Have you used CouchTuner apps.
I did the same and I LOVE it. You can now watch A&E channel (Duck Dynasty) and History channel are now available. UA-cam is also available check out my video on how to install it here: ua-cam.com/video/CVrReN_CYW8/v-deo.html Thanks for watching.
49carol I'm not too fond of the media browser myself. I use The Plex server to stream content. It works great but then again my server runs 24/7 365 as it is also my web server. Sounds impressive but really it is a tiny Acer Netbook.
Maybe I'll just stick with the You Tube and Plex then. I love watching virtual travel or any kind of travel videos. It's a cheap vacation. Haha. I'll quit with the media browser since it's not worth it. Thanks.
49carol You never know they may improve it in the future. They continually improve everything else on the Roku3 so you never know. I am very impressed with it so far and it gets even better as time goes by. Great value. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Cool video review @ Richard, best one I've seen by far. Big thumbs up and after watching this I may just buy a Roku 3 myself even though I have a smart TV for Netflix etc.
+Lee Sharp The 3500R Streaming Stick is almost as fast and half the price. I use both of them and hardly notice the difference. You can buy the Roku Stick 3500R at Amazon: amzn.to/1fTWAsJ Here is a video on that too ua-cam.com/video/jEukkEbjeS8/v-deo.html Thanks
Roku provides hundreds of free services. The total cost or Hulu, Amazon, Netflx and now Red Box is $32.00 a month. With that you get access tens of thousands of tv shows and movies which you can choose to watch any time as well you get access to Pandora, IHeart radio and hundreds of other specialty channels for free. I think it is far cheaper than the $124.00 I paid for TW Cable a month and I get to pick what I want to watch. Now with Plex I can watch Internet video on my TV through the Roku.
I am very new to all of this but if I understand the concept correctly, you would need a Roku for every TV in your home that you cut cable from correct? If I got more than one is there a problem with interference from each remote? I already have an Amazon Prime account so could I view it on 2 different TVs at the same time? Would there be any other compatibility issues? Thanks so much for your review and answering questions.
Richard, I found this video to be informative. I'm going to Radio Shack this week and get a Roku 3. Just a review I need a HD antenna to get regular channels along with the Roku and a HDMI cable right as I have a HD TV?
Yes. I you want Digital terrestrial television (DTTV or DTT) you will need an antenna to get it. Make sure you have a digital tuner in your HD TV before you buy the antenna. Check the specs from your HD TV manufacturer. More than likely you will.
Very good review. In order to be sold i need to know if it is able to stream videos, and music from a NAS. What are the compatible video media formats it can stream?
It can do both of those things using a Plex Server and it can also stream from windows media player. I have a video on Windows Media Player here ua-cam.com/video/Q23hwXig_qU/v-deo.html Google Plex Media Server and you will see how it can be done. I have one set up and it is very nice with the Roku.
I believe it streams from the Internet so a good Internet connection will be required. Hotel connection will not work for you as the Roku does not have a browser. Google dish world roku to get an idea of what the service offers.
TY! Nice review! To answer ? below, old Roku remotes will not wirk with the Roku3 accotding to Roku tech support. I wasn't sute what the remote was like from the Roku description. Seems they would at least include an inexpensive HDMI cable so you at least have somerhing to hook it up to your TV. An ethernet cablemakes sense too, but still looks like a great little box. A definite upgrade from the older Roku boxes! TY for the great review! Much appreciated!
No there is no cost to have a Roku account and there are hundreds of free channels. Google "Roku free channels" and you will get an idea of what is available.
There is no native support for UA-cam but I use a channel called Plex to do it and it works great. I am going to make a video showing how that work and posting a link to it here.
As a former Canadian. I feel your pain. The are not protecting Canadian content they are censoring American content. Can listen to Glen Beck or Rush Limbaugh on Iheartradio or tune in on your Roku3?
Man this sounds cool. Here is what SlingBox says: SlingPlayer for Roku is a feature that teams up your Slingbox and SlingPlayer for iPhone or SlingPlayer for Android Phones with your Roku streaming player. With SlingPlayer on your iPhone or Android phone, you can stream your TV programs to the Roku player, and onto your TV. Just make sure that you've got a Slingbox 500, Slingbox 350, Slingbox PRO-HD, or Slingbox SOLO, as well as the latest version of SlingPlayer for your iPhone or Android smartphone. Then download the SlingPlayer app for your Roku player, and you'll be all set to go. Here is the link: support.slingbox.com/get/KB-2000582.html
***** Yes I have cut the cord and I am never looking back. I still get my local channels over the air and for the most part that's all I need of (live TV). I am considering a DVR for OTA other than that I am completely happy with the Roku 3 and the Roku Streaming Stick 3500R. I am still working on ways to improve their WIFI performance. You may also be interested in this video I made showing you how to save additional money from you cable company ua-cam.com/video/UVbywFbSBpo/v-deo.html
if i get this device what is the maximum number of roku channels you would recommend be loaded on it to avoid bogging it down/overloading it's memory and cause buffering issues ? or freezing issues?
+Mike Ebbert You can actually expand the storage memory to accommodate more channels if required. I have 100 channels and I have not experienced any issues with buffering. I think the buffering is more of an Internet speed problem than a memory problem. I have a 30 Mb/sec Internet connection. Thanks.
You can subscribe to monthly "channels" like Amazon Prime, Netflix, Hulu etc. but there are tons of free channels too. If you want to see current tv shows and movies I would suggest a subscription to Hulu ($8 a month) and Amazon Prime $70 a year. Prime also gives you free two day shipping at Amazon and discounts.
No Thank you just purchased one yesterday and i didn't know about the hdmi cord i had to have, so i wont open until i get one , also UA-cam would be my next thing to learn about on my Roku, because i sooo, luv my youtube ,thanks again!!
Excellent review. Thanks. If the new stick for half the price wasn't just announced I would buy this. I'm going to try to wait to find out about the stick.
The Roku Stick looks cool it does have UA-cam compatibility which is currently only available on the Roku 3 as well and I can almost bet that the CPU will not be as powerful as the Roku 3. The Roku 3 CPU is 3 times more powerful than the next lower model. No specs are yet available for the Roku Stick. I will be buying the Roku Stick to review.
MrWhiltetail Update UA-cam channel IS available on the stick. Here is a link to my pre release review. I have one on pre order already. Looks good. ua-cam.com/video/sLcbQS1mWvg/v-deo.html
***** Your TV has to be an HDTV (720p - 1280×720p) and it has to have an HDMI port. If it meets those specs it "should" work. BTW you will need an HDMI cable. Good luck.
Parsa Sorbi Sorry you did not appreciate my thorough review of this device. BTW at the 3:00 mark I have every component out of the box and on the table. The title states (Unboxing, Review, Setup and Function). Unfortunately there is no way I know of to do all of this any faster than I did. I aim my videos at people who are novices and have no experience with the device at all. The point being to show how simple and easy the device is to setup and enjoy. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Hi Richard Lloyd , I really appreciate your step by step tutorial video cause it`s my first time installing the Roku3 and love that you kept it simple and talk slow so I could follow you and whoever disagree with it, can go check other sites for more advanced users ...cause this video explain it so well .Thanks a lot Richard
Maria Sandoval sorry I see that another person asked you the same question ... but it`s required cause they have the little red *** at all the boxes you have to put your email, credit card and password
Roku 3 has an Ethernet port and WIFI. The streaming stick is WIFI only. Your router does have WIFI but you don't need it for the Roku3. You do neet WIFI for the streaming stick. Here are the specs for your router www.att.com/equipment/accessory-details/?q_sku=sku5480277
Do you have to have paid subscription for more than 60% of the apps that are on it? I want to purchase this as a replacement to cable since I hardly watch tv but would like to still have some source of entertainment without having to keep paying a bill for a bunch of premium stuff like hulu plus, netflix, etc.
Check the Roku site for available channels, note that you can add private channels as well as Plex server. Google that info and see if you are interested in it. I subscribe to Hulu and Amazon Prime so far I think Prime is a far better value but it is a matter of opinion. Thanks for watching. BTW I don't miss cable at all.
Great Product. But I Still have a question. After you Buy the R-3 and start watching all your favorite movies and series , do I have to Pay somebody or Someone something else for enjoying the Programs ??
There are hundreds of free feeds on Roku but the premium channels like Amazon, Netflix and Hulu etc. are subscription based. None of them are over $10 a month and all of them have a trial membership. Thanks
Bili Rubin Yes it does. I was just watching House of Cards with the Closed Captioning on and it worked. Remember not all titles will have the option though but it they do it will show them. Thanks.
Hi! I am thinking of purchasing a Roku 3, mostly to get the channels that I don't have on my cable tier. I have 2 dvrs for my 2 tvs (one hd & one regular) Can I keep the lower channels from Charter (drop the upper tier) but still use the roku & utilize the dvrs also. Not sure about being able to hook up another hdmi cable for the roku. I just don't want to lose my dvrs! (As you can tell, I am NOT technologically saavy)
Roku can stream live channels but unfortunately cable channels require a cable subscription to watch and the same goes for satellite channels. The nature of cable and satellite service is such that the channels on those services only be viewed if paid for. If you could see the content available on those services for free on a Roku they would quickly go out of business. I see this changing in the future. I see a day coming when you will be able to purchase the channels you want to watch and only the channels you want to watch and that option will be available on Roku or on your cable service. The day of the "bundle" is on it's way out. streamfree.tv/roku/live-channels/
Not sure I know what you mean here. There is an remote control app for IOS(Apple) devices and one for Android devices. Everything else you can view by going to the channel search or just using the search feature.
How do I activate code on computer if Ethernet cord is connected to roku 3 can I sign up first then hook up device and use code or do I have to "split" Ethernet cord , if so what would I have to buy.
I suggest getting a router to share your internet connection but you could just plug the Ethernet cord into your laptop and then quickly plugging the cord back into the Roku3. Not sure if it would work but you can give it a try. You can get a decent router for $19.99 amzn.to/1o4VYVd
+JOSEPH STRABORNY Hulu, Amazon, Sling, Netflix are all pay for view services which require a monthly rental fee, Hulu and Netfilx are under $10 a month. Amazon prime requires a yearly subscription and Sling TV is $20/month. Thanks.
The Roku 3 is HDMI only but the Roku 2 amzn.to/1qLsWXE has Analog stereo (left/right/composite video RCA). If this Roku does not fit the bill they make several different models that they say will connect to just about any TV. Thanks.
Dude your review was simply amazing covered all parts. I don't know why but when you raised your nook up out of nowhere it made me laugh lol. One question I do have though is I didn't notice youtube on your Roku 3.. Doesn't it come with youtube?
MrSafari456 The Roku now has a UA-cam channel. I have two videos on that here ua-cam.com/video/CVrReN_CYW8/v-deo.html and ua-cam.com/video/J2yS3ltVQxU/v-deo.html
There are so many channels that really I can't comment and be correct. Check out the Roku channel listing but realize that there is just as many if not more "private" channels which are not listed. Google it and you will see what I mean.
i just wanna ask can i watch live sports channels on Roku 3? wanna watch live Cricket games if its possible... can i stream from external source to watch cricket with Roku 3? will appreciate your comment. thanks
I'm sold, but if it had a PLAY-ALL content (like simulating a channel network programing) then it would be amazing. There's something about choosing(browsing) clips, and shows in ROKU or similar dongles that seems too PCish to me.. I can do that with my PC, only selling point would be the audio jack on the controller for private listening, and Portability
Let's say I just want to be able to watch regular shows, like Fox News, ID channel, Lifetime Movie network, Discovery, History, SyFy, Military channel, etc. How do you do this on Roku3? Is there a specific Tv app that has most of the channels for free, or really cheap?
Some of those channels are available like SyFy (it's free) and others are not. Check the Roku channel line up here: www.roku.com/whats-on This is the 'official' channel guide but there is also private channel list too. You can google that as well. The current state of the media landscape is in transition between streaming devices and the old technology. The cable system will eventually realize that they either stream to these devices or they die. Some channels have realized this already and have become early adopters of this new medium. I watch The Blaze ($8 a month) on the Roku which eventually will be a 24/7 live channel as well as having the ability to watch it live you can also watch every show ever shown on the channel anytime you want on demand. You can even watch a show you missed the start of from the start while it's still streaming live. I am watching less live news at this point as I can just go to any of the news channel web page and get all I need from that. I also subscribe to HULU, Netflix, and Amazon Prime Video. There is always movies to watch there. All three of those together cost less than $30 a month. I have taken my TWC bill from $175 a month to less than $50 and get to watch what I want (mostly) when I want. I get my local channels with an normal TV antenna. I get 18 channels, most in HD for free. Here is a video on how I cut most of my services on TWC and replaced them with just as good or better services for less: ua-cam.com/video/UVbywFbSBpo/v-deo.html Thanks for asking and watching.
Hi WHat a great instruction vid Can you answer what might be a really thick question though, i dont think I got it in the demonstrtion, I currently have chromecast that I use in my bedroom to play netflix and cast free apps which i stream from my tablet. Is this just the same or can I use this without having to stream from my phone tablet or computer. I wanted it to be more open access for everyone in the house in the lounge, without having to use my devices to make it work. Many thanks
+JustJustine71 I actually bought a Chromecast so I could understand your question. LOL and now I get it. The Roku has it's own separate remote control dedicated to controlling it as well it has an app menu which is on screen and selectable with that remote. You don't need an IOS, Android or Laptop to control it. You can stream from those devices but it is limited in that capability compared to Chromecast but if you want a stand alone device that anyone can walk up to grab the remote and stream Hulu, Netflix, etc. etc. Roku is your device. After using Chromecast for an hour I totally get what you are asking and why. Chromecast needs an app menu and a remote. I am actually thinking about returning it now that I have seen what it can do as I am not all that impressed. Roku can stream UA-cam from your devices too other than that I don't know what else I would be all that interested in streaming from my devices. But I am going to play with it for a day or two and then decide on returning it or not. I feel at this point that the Roku is a far better streaming solution but I am very biased on that as I have owned two Rokus for years now. I use the Roku Streaming Stick 3500R and the Roku 3 and they both work very well for me. Here are my videos on those ua-cam.com/play/PLnxXRLSlmSVPHT-G6wQcAYKHXIdMDN2Ua.html
A critical part of this device is the wifi quality. If you have to connect with wifi and if the wifi isn't that great then you are out of luck. I prefer using a PC. Not as convenient but it gives me choices...like any wifi device I want.
It's WIFI antenna and sensitivity are excellent. Also it does have an ethernet port if you want to hard wire it as well. I have not had any issues with WIFI. Thanks for watching.
Hi Richard, Can you help me get my head around this please? Basically i stream all my media wireless through the house (no ethernet cables in the roof as im only renting) so my PC is in one room with all my media on it and i want to just stream all my media from my PC (currently i just run Serviio) can i use a roku 3 box without having it directly connected via ethernet? might sound dumb, but im in australia and have limited by media box technology. cheers mate Irish
I use Plex media server and Plex channel on Roku over WIFI with out issue. I do have troubles with the larger files as there are limits to how much data you can stream over WIFI. I do not use Serviio so I can't comment directly on it but I can tell you the Roku does support Plex Server and Plex Media Server. Thanks.
Not sure that would use any less battery power. I just put rechargeable batteries in the remote and recharge them when needed. I keep an extra pair charged for when it happens. But try it and see. Please get back to me and report your results. I am sure others would like to know if it did save you battery life. Thanks.
I have two Roku's a 3500R Streaming Stick and a Roku3. Both are set up on the same subscriptions for Amazon Prime, Hulu and Netflix and both can stream any one of those services at the same time with the same or different content without issue. I only have two devices so I can only comment that two will work with the same subscription accounts at the same time without issue. Thanks for the question.
To hook up my surround sound 5.1 its all connected to my blue ray player and it can only be connect to that then i use hdmi from my blue ray player to my hdtv. since roku 3 only has hdmi power outlet and what ever.Would i be able to get my surround sound to work with a hdmi splitter from roku 3 to splitter blueray player to splitter then go to the tv? sorry about the wording not sure if it make sence..would my surround sound work with roku 3 to tv? if that way.
I think we are in a paradigm technology shift where the cable/dish model are going to either shift to an online subscription model like Hulu and Amazon or be overshadowed like DVD killed VHS. We no longer want to pay for 100 channels when we only watch 6 of them. Choice is going to force the old way of watching TV to change or die out.
i have a question me and mt family are thinking of a roku but i notic theres no NFL app in it and my dad loves NFL and NBA is there a way to get those channles on the roku
There is no easy solution yet. Here is the only way I found to do it. But I have not personally done it myself. Good luck. mkvxstream.blogspot.com/2013/10/watch-nfl-on-roku.html
I have TV, Broadband Internet and Two Laptops. My TV dont have WiFi, it has 2HDMi and 1USB. I need to stream whatever on my laptop to TV (not limited to UA-cam, Netflik) Will Roku help in this ? or Any other device for this ?
Best 30 minutes I spent. Was able to install my Roku 3 without any problems and I and I am a 67 year female
That's great. Glad I could help. Thanks for watching.
Nice, informative review. I'm sold on the Roku 3, as I have a dual band router, and I feel the $100 is well invested.
It's a good investment. I no longer pay for cable TV so the savings are substantial. Thanks for watching and commenting.
After watching your video, I didn't need to search "how to" on Roku site. You've said it all. Very detailed and easy to follow. Thanks!
So glad i could help you with this device. Seriously love it. I cut the cable over a year ago and I am never going back. This is the future of television. Pay for what you want and nothing else. Trust me I lived in Canada for 30 years. I know what it is all about. Thanks for the feed back and sorry about your oppression.
That's great. I know you will love it. I still love mine and it has been working great from day one.
Yes you would need a Roku for every TV in your home. The remotes are keyed to your specific Roku so that would not be a problem.

This is excellent! Exactly what I was looking for. Thank you Richard!
Great. You are most welcome. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Play nice now. They are our closest ally and we need all the friends we can get.
One of the best how-to/review I've seen, this is going to make hooking this thing up tomorrow a breeze , fingers crossed, lol
Thank you
Most welcome. I know it will go well for you. Enjoy.
Richard Lloyd After watching your video,it took me a total of five minutes to have this up and running, Thanks again =)

I only pay for Internet. Love not having cable.
What about sports channels ?
Brian Fetz They are available but mostly as pay for subscription services. Do your research on what is available. Unfortunately I am not a sports fan. Google is your friend.
The best review of the Roku I have seen yet.
Awesome vid, thx!! Collecting my device on Friday.....oooooh this gonna b a fun wknd. That's again for the heads up info on the setup!
the best review on any item that I have ever seen ... well done and thank you
garnet4utube You are most welcome. Thank you for watching and the kind words.
Sorry, all I know is that the Roku3 does output 5.1 sound how you route it or if it will route is really not something I can advise you on.

I checked the Roku site and they say the "standard remote" Roku remote works on all their models but it does not have motion control for the games.
I watch The Blaze live every day.
No it does not have a web browser and Roku has stated that they don't intend to put one on it in the future.
Not sure what exactly you are asking. You can buy the Roku 3 at Amazon. I have a link in the description for it.
Hi great video, been looking into buying the Roku 3,
I have questions
1> How to add local news channels?
2> Do you use many apps to get other cable network mini series shows like HBO shows.
3> Have you used CouchTuner apps.
The beauty of this system is that you can add what you want to watch. Here are the particulars for HBO www.roku.com/channels#!details/8378/hbo-go
I love my ROKU 3. Had a ROKU 2 and stepped up to this a few months ago. Awesome.
I did the same and I LOVE it. You can now watch A&E channel (Duck Dynasty) and History channel are now available. UA-cam is also available check out my video on how to install it here: ua-cam.com/video/CVrReN_CYW8/v-deo.html Thanks for watching.
I have You Tube on it and Plex but having trouble figuring out the Media Browser channel.
Richard,
I found this video to be informative.
Thanks for all your help! Do you have a tv show yet?
MultiVibrant1 You are welcome. I am considering setting up a small studio to do just that. Thanks for watching.
You are most welcome. I love mine.
Make sure you check to see if what you want is available.
Glad you liked it.
Love the vid. I would be great if you tried an external 2tb hard drive so to show how fast it loads the data. I heard that it takes too long.
I don't have one. Sorry. Thanks for watching.
It gets warm but I have never seen it get hot.
No there is no cost to have a Roku account and there are hundreds of free channels. Google "Roku free channels" and you will get an idea of what is available.
There is no native support for UA-cam but I use a channel called Plex to do it and it works great. I am going to make a video showing how that work and posting a link to it here.
Thank you very much.
As a former Canadian. I feel your pain. The are not protecting Canadian content they are censoring American content. Can listen to Glen Beck or Rush Limbaugh on Iheartradio or tune in on your Roku3?
No problem. Love mine.
Very Helpful Now I need to educate myself about the Plex server. I learn very slow now days 73 and holding.
Can I use my roku 3 player and the sling app if I have the dish sling player ?
Man this sounds cool. Here is what SlingBox says:
SlingPlayer for Roku is a feature that teams up your Slingbox and SlingPlayer for iPhone or SlingPlayer for Android Phones with your Roku streaming player.
Put a link in the description to a video I made that shows you how to get UA-cam on the Roku using Plex. Thanks for watching.
Great Video! Have you "cut the cord"? I did and enjoy my Roku 3.
Yes you can link multiple Roku devices to one account. I have two linked to my account.
Hi, Richard when you register your roku do you have to put in your credit card information, this is my first roku
I have not done it lately but when I did it I did not have to put my credit card info in. Thanks.
Thank you ,Richard you helped me out a lot.
Phyllis Jones You are welcome and thanks for watching.
Thanks Richard. Could you recommend either Playon or Plex server to stream from a PC?
Cool. Hopefully it's available soon so I can check out your review before deciding for sure, but if it doesn't get youtube I doubt I will buy it.
Good luck.
***** Likewise. Thank you for watching.
Maria Sandoval You are most welcome. I am very glad I could help you as that is my mission here. Thank you for watching and the kind comments.
Richard Lloyd I am trying to install my Roku3 and they`re asking me to register ?? and to add my credit card ,email and password ,do I have to
Maria Sandoval sorry I see that another person asked you the same question ... but it`s required cause they have the little red *** at all the boxes you have to put your email, credit card and password
Maria Sandoval I believe it's up to you. Try it without. Basically its there in case you want to purchase games etc. Thanks
I have at&t nvg510 Internet gateway. Do I need wireless router to use roku 3
or roku streaming stick with it?
Roku 3 has an Ethernet port and WIFI. The streaming stick is WIFI only. Your router does have WIFI but you don't need it for the Roku3. You do neet WIFI for the streaming stick. Here are the specs for your router www.att.com/equipment/accessory-details/?q_sku=sku5480277
Not familiar with Playon or Plex server streams yet. Looks like I have some homework to do.
Great Review it showed everything I wanted to know Thanks
David Uter You are welcome. I am glad I was able to help you. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for the advice. I greatly appreciate it.
Joe Collazo
My pleasure. One more thing Hulu is monthly but Prime is a six month commitment.
Yeah but I've heard nothing but good about prime. I have Netflix and their selection is kind of blahh.
Thanks
Thanks.. The video is awesome ..
You are most welcome. Thanks for watching.
Hello, Can this Roku device you are sharing, bring up closed captions to appear
on Netflex movies? Thank you.
I have some movies on my MacBook Pro and on an external HD, can I watch them with the Roku 3?
Yes you can. You will need to set up a Plex Server. Google Plex Channel and Plex Server and you will find all you need to make it happen. Good luck.
Thanks a lot Richard!
I will be using a dish in Europe. Does the 'Dish world channel' just refer to the channel that passes through your signal?.
To view the apps on Roku 3, do I need a computer/laptop? If not what type of wireless device do I need?
Not sure I know what you mean here. There is an remote control app for IOS(Apple) devices and one for Android devices. Everything else you can view by going to the channel search or just using the search feature.
How do I activate code on computer if Ethernet cord is connected to roku 3
can I sign up first then hook up device and use code or do I have to "split" Ethernet
cord , if so what would I have to buy.
I suggest getting a router to share your internet connection but you could just plug the Ethernet cord into your laptop and then quickly plugging the cord back into the Roku3. Not sure if it would work but you can give it a try. You can get a decent router for $19.99 amzn.to/1o4VYVd
Richard Lloyd Thanks
Sharon Bryant You are welcome. Thanks for watching.
Thank you for a thorough review!!
2016
do you have to pay a seperate fee per programming hulu hbo excedra...or the price of roku 3 pays for the aditional networks...mention above...
+JOSEPH STRABORNY Hulu, Amazon, Sling, Netflix are all pay for view services which require a monthly rental fee, Hulu and Netfilx are under $10 a month. Amazon prime requires a yearly subscription and Sling TV is $20/month. Thanks.
Hello Richard, can ROKU be used on Other components with HDMI/USB ports if I have an old TV without these ports?
The Roku 3 is HDMI only but the Roku 2 amzn.to/1qLsWXE has Analog stereo (left/right/composite video RCA). If this Roku does not fit the bill they make several different models that they say will connect to just about any TV. Thanks.
Thanks. Great videos!:-)
Bernell Holsey You're welcome. Thanks for watching.
Thanks man, i'm currently enjoying roku 3 and reaping all the benefits
MrSafari456 You're most welcome. I love it too. Streaming TV is the future. Thanks.
Hey Richard, besides Crackle, what other Apps has free movies and TV? Most of the apps on the Roku 3, you have to pay a subscription.
There are so many channels that really I can't comment and be correct. Check out the Roku channel listing but realize that there is just as many if not more "private" channels which are not listed. Google it and you will see what I mean.
Hi Richard. Can I stream whatever is playing on my Satellite decoder and control it with this Roku unit?.
i just wanna ask can i watch live sports channels on Roku 3? wanna watch live Cricket games if its possible... can i stream from external source to watch cricket with Roku 3? will appreciate your comment. thanks
I am not really sure what is available. A quick google search brought this up. www.indianchannels.org/
Alright I'm new to this, does this thing live stream channels? And how much do you pay for it a month?
Great info about Roku. Thank you
Amjad Farooq You're welcome. Thank you for watching and the kind comment.
Hi
WHat a great instruction vid
Can you answer what might be a really thick question though, i dont think I got it in the demonstrtion, I currently have chromecast that I use in my bedroom to play netflix and cast free apps which i stream from my tablet.
If you are using Dish Network. The Dish World Channel is available for you.
i have the roku 2 hd will that remote work on it??
A critical part of this device is the wifi quality. If you have to connect with wifi and if the wifi isn't that great then you are out of luck. I prefer using a PC. Not as convenient but it gives me choices...like any wifi device I want.
It's WIFI antenna and sensitivity are excellent. Also it does have an ethernet port if you want to hard wire it as well. I have not had any issues with WIFI. Thanks for watching.
Hi Richard,
Can you help me get my head around this please?
Basically i stream all my media wireless through the house (no ethernet cables in the roof as im only renting) so my PC is in one room with all my media on it and i want to just stream all my media from my PC (currently i just run Serviio)
can i use a roku 3 box without having it directly connected via ethernet?
might sound dumb, but im in australia and have limited by media box technology.
cheers mate
Irish
I use Plex media server and Plex channel on Roku over WIFI with out issue. I do have troubles with the larger files as there are limits to how much data you can stream over WIFI. I do not use Serviio so I can't comment directly on it but I can tell you the Roku does support Plex Server and Plex Media Server. Thanks.
does it connect with wifi? i have a tv in my living room but no internet loop down here so i need wifi while on the pc in the living room
Yes it is WIFI enabled. Amazon has it on sale for $84.99 here amzn.to/ZX1pcR
Thanks for the fast reply. one more thing. do canadian users have full access to view all content?
Patience O www.rokuchannelscanada.com/

Can we use a wireless headphones for the remote to save on battery life?
Not sure that would use any less battery power. I just put rechargeable batteries in the remote and recharge them when needed. I keep an extra pair charged for when it happens. But try it and see. Please get back to me and report your results. I am sure others would like to know if it did save you battery life. Thanks.
Let's say I buy 4 roku 3's. Does that mean I have to pay for 4 subscription fees for Hulu, or Netflix, or will they all run on the same user?
I have two Roku's a 3500R Streaming Stick and a Roku3. Both are set up on the same subscriptions for Amazon Prime, Hulu and Netflix and both can stream any one of those services at the same time with the same or different content without issue. I only have two devices so I can only comment that two will work with the same subscription accounts at the same time without issue. Thanks for the question.
Richard Lloyd thank you brother! Exactly what I needed to know.
Woodman94 You're welcome. Please update us on how it went with more than two Rokus please. Thanks
To hook up my surround sound 5.1 its all connected to my blue ray player and it can only be connect to that then i use hdmi from my blue ray player to my hdtv. since roku 3 only has hdmi power outlet and what ever.Would i be able to get my surround sound to work with a hdmi splitter from roku 3 to splitter blueray player to splitter then go to the tv? sorry about the wording not sure if it make sence..would my surround sound work with roku 3 to tv? if that way.
how many free channels do you get? the box itself doesnt have a monthly cost does it
I like my roku, but what I don't like is there are too many channels that you cant watch a show unless you sign in to a cable t.v. account
Good luck. mkvxstream.blogspot.com/2013/10/watch-nfl-on-roku.html
thx
Welcome
Need to know how to make ROKU 3 format the micro sd card
I was trying to stream a video off my note 3 through the usb it didn't recognize the device. any suggestions?
Check your USB mode settings. Not sure how to set it on your Note 3 but I am sure you can find it on Google.
I have TV, Broadband Internet and Two Laptops.
My TV dont have WiFi, it has 2HDMi and 1USB.
I need to stream whatever on my laptop to TV (not limited to UA-cam, Netflik)
Will Roku help in this ? or Any other device for this ?
You can use Windows Media Player to stream to the Roku or you can use Plex Media Server (I prefer this option). Thanks
