Hundreds of thousands of students in England, Wales and Northern Ireland have received their A-Level and vocational qualification results, after the exams were cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic
Boris Johnson has also come under pressure from some of his own MPs after thousands students complained that their exam results were unfairly downgraded - with stark differences emerging between state and private schools.
Labour has called on ministers to act immediately to sort out an "exams fiasco" in England and stop thousands of students being "betrayed".

Im sorry my parents were refugees and i couldnt live in a posh area.or attend a private school
I'm sorry that my mum is too I'll to work. I'm sorry that I'm classed as disadvantaged. I'm sorry I cant afford to go to a private school. I'm waiting on the GCSE'S and I need to get into college so I can go to university so my children never have to be disadvantaged.
This is so sad and infuriating at the same time

I was predicted C's based on my family background and worked hard to get A's. It's not right to not have the chance.
It's knid of weird how he didn't go to a private school and got a state education and yet he does this. I don't actually think he cares about the working class.

Williamson you tried throwing all the hard work of us teachers in the bin and instead rely on a dodgy algorithm which rewarded private schools whilst punishing state schools. In other words, you punished the poor for being poor and rewarded the rich for being rich. I will go back to my classroom in September, but not for you. We do it out of duty, and we don't need you lecturing us about duty. Your entire political career has been based on talking about duty and honour, but always coming up short yourself. Come what may, the teaching unions are probably going to crucify you for cowardice, narcissism and utter disregard for the professional opinion and safety of my fellow teachers and myself. I worked at school throughout the crisis. My wife was terrified by your governments scaremongering and cried each day, thinking that i was going to catch Corona sooner or later when I went to work each day. I kept in touch with all my students and they worked hard from home. Your government promised laptops to our poorer students but this was just another promise broken,. Did you have to deal with all the angry parents asking why they didn't have a laptop three months after asking for one? No. While I kept my eye on the ball, and made sure I worked hard for the kids, did you? No. You had MONTHS to get it right and you still failed. Blaming everyone, including teachers with your unsubstantiated inference that teachers inflated grades, is absolutely disgusting. You didn't have the guts to say in directly but we teachers can read between the lines and aren't stupid, I thought long and hard about the grades I gave my students, only for you to throw into the bin all the hard work we teachers did in considering the grades for our students over countless nights. You accused us of grade inflation, without evidence, yet used an untested means of securing what you regarded at the time (in your political stupidity) as acceptable grades you had the cheek to believe we all would just accept at face value. You should resign, because you have lost all moral authority. You're (by your own account) a former state school student, I am too. You were inspired to look out for number one, I was inspired to look out for kids. You are a Judas to all of us who worked hard through the comprehensive system, and to the current students also. You didn't have the courage to resign, but I think you're going to wish you did once next year's exam season rolls around, because if you screw up again you'll pray for a time machine to take you back to when you had the chance to do so. You are probably the most reviled education secretary in history, so you'd better slink off back to your office, play with your pet spider and keep out of the business you're too thick to deal with. Something tells me you're out next cabinet reshuffle. Crying kids in the media as a direct result of your callous disregard for fairness in deciding their future is a really bad look for you Oh, and I think photo ops in schools are definitely out for you now. All this is a waste of time, honour what the teachers put and move on. The whole situation is troubling why add more salt to the wound. Scotland did what was right and repented. England is too hard headed slow to see error. This is just another why of oppressing the people as they say are disadvantaged.
Even if they repeal the decision, Universities aren't changing who they've admitted.

They aren't resits...it would be an exam in place of phantom grades assigned by an algorithm that is biased towards the most posh with no explanation.
Shame they haven’t helped uni students who have been paying rent throughout corona whilst not living there

@Sathursan Sharvaswaran it's a natural event, life isn't always fair, just redo the year and get the grades you want if you don't like the ones the algorithm gave you, it's simple. This guy is saying he can't go to medical school, that's incorrect, he can go, he can just study again for 1 year then get his ABB then go to medical school. Don't expect everything to be handed to you on a silver platter and when you come across a problem find a new way to reach your goal. That's life.
Because they generalised the grades off of last year's results e.g you could have someone predicted A*,A*,A* but if the smartest person from last year got A,B,B then this year's student will get A,B,B

honestly i think we are going to be in an even worse position because we have missed so much learning and i doubt they will take into account the pandemic in regards to us
I'm doing 2021 GCSE
Maths. RE
English. Geography
Art. Business
science Health and social
Two of which are course work , we've missed half a year of education , and that which has been online was tbh a recap of what we already knew , not to mention some children have learning disabilities eg. ADHD , Autism ect. Or come from a poorer household that doesn't have access to books or laptops
We don't even know most out content but they expect us to magically succeed 🤦🏼♀️

ah gee i got gcses on thursday, i did one gsce in year 10 last year so i have one decent grade but if the downgrade me and i cant do the subjects i want for a level ill be fuming

What is the CAG percentage you need at Alevel to get an A grade? is it equivalent to the grade boudaries of last year's results

I think so but, I’m not sure.
It's natural that A2 grades may be lower than AS grades because the year is more difficult but downgrading students by several grades seems extremely harsh.
It has NOTHING to do with difficulty.
It has EVERYTHING to do with WEALTH INEQUALITY and maintaining the POVERTY TRAP.
Private Schools had their grades INFLATED.
How DARE they say they didn't want to inflate grades when they have DONE PRECISELY THAT.
Private schools did so much better than last year whilst BAME students did the worst.

I kind of feel sorry for Gavin Williamson. Like many of the cabinet of this government, he is completely out of his depth! He has no clue and no experience to deal with this. Boris should be trying to sort this all out but I am sure he is away trying to find another photo opportunity or on holiday, again! Another person who is completely out of his depth. It is a scary situation and you wonder how it’s all going to work out!

I agree with Lord Wilitz last statement of how the system should be changed in the future offering a broader curriculum, but also not place all emphasis on the tests, bring back course work so if something like this happens again, you have something real to base your decision on, not where you went to school and where your parents live.
This isnt the time to be evaluating the efficacy of exams on ability to achieve a degree.
Youre not wrong, but right now we really need focused and directed ANGER that needs to press against the authortarian regime designed to ENTRAP and ENSLAVE the POOR.

50+ years I failed my 11 plus.That not withstanding after a thoroughly enjoyable working life I find now that I enjoy a modest level of success and comfort,probably more so than teachers who would have written me off as factory fodder.
To all those young people bemoaning their perceived misfortune inflicted on them by covid and that nasty tory government, when it comes to advancement, education is generally 15% of the equation, application is the other 85%. Its very easy to blame circumstance and other people for your woes this is so very negative and unhealthy . Glass half full children.
You should feel deep shame for your lack of empathy and total ignorance.
They are our future.
These kids are our Doctors.
Our lawyers.
Our engineers.
