  • Margarita wanted me to make a video on how I knit colorwork, so here we go! It coincided perfectly with this first warmup pattern for Sock Madness! I hope you'll join me and give this a try. It's a great way to knit continental style with two colors.
    Sorry! I was wrong about the video by Arne & Carlos. It is also a continental video.
    CORRECTION: (Sort of) When you're knitting colorwork, one yarn will be dominant and one less dominant. I don't have that because of this method, but you MIGHT, so please make sure to always set your two yarns up in the same position each time you work on a project.

      It's really just a method I Frankensteined together to solve the issues I had one step at a time. It took me FOREVER to get the hang of it. I probably should have just taken a class, but there wasn't much around me at the time!

    That's genius. Knitting the sock inside out. I tried colourwork once in a sock and it was so tight and I had gone up a needle size and was so discouraged. Thanks for this tip!

    How fun! I'm an English knitter but hate dropping my needles to throw my yarn, so about 5 years ago I taught myself to flick by doing 2-handed colorwork. My challenge to myself was to never let go of a needle. It's still my favorite way to do colorwork. 🙂

    That is SO fast! I knit continental but hold the yarns a bit different, but I essentially do the same thing. 😊 I’ve worked out a similar way to do double knitting (except obviously, there’s a lot more purling). When you said you did socks inside out, I thought you meant purling!!
    You rock Trish! See you on the live on Sunday!

    I'm a picker. I remember knitting on the opposite side, but i don't remember why. I'll have to give it another try. After years of practice, I no longer have issues with float tension. I have rings that I bought to keep the strands apart. My favorite is a peacock.

  • @candygrubisic

    I'm still trying to figure out what's best for me but I can't seem to do both at the same time in my left hand for continental. I can do both in my right or one in each hand but my stitches aren't consistent enough if I do one in each hand so I don't do it as often unless I have a lot of purling to do. Love your float catching method. I'll be giving that a try. I've noticed it can be hard to keep a proper tension going too if the yarn isn't spun uniformly and has thin spots in it. I get lazy sometimes and switch up how I hold my yarn throughout a body of work and it shows lol.

  • @carlleegamble3744
    @carlleegamble3744 2 роки тому

    I have always done color work inside out. I thought it was just me being contrarywise. I find it is easier to keep the right length for the floats. Thanks for letting me know someone else for it.

  • @lisaml7411
    @lisaml7411 2 роки тому

    Thank you for showing this. 😊 I’ve tried tensioning the 2 colors around my finger but one always ended up going slack. 🤨 Maybe the key is how you twist the 2nd yarn around your finger? 🧐I’ll give this a try and see what happens… 🙂

  • @raysunshine830
    @raysunshine830 2 роки тому

    My mom knits English, she wanted me to learn continental so she hired a German knitting tutor for me when I was @ 11 yo. I have difficulty wrapping around my pinky for tension. Color work gets scrambled because of how I lay the yarn between ring finger in pinky. I am going to try to hold tension like you do in this vid or buy a finger thingy.

    Do you follow the pattern differently when you knit inside out? For example, do you follow from left to right vs right to left? I've never heard of knitting inside out but I do a lot of colorwork. I find this intriguing.

    • @FiberLoveDiary
