Gosh, I could have really used this tutorial earlier this week. I had to undo my color work socks on 9" circulars because they were super puckered up and I just assumed I was using the wrong type of needle! Thank you for the help :)

I do the opposite: hold my main color on the left and contrasting color on the right. It enables me to control my tension on the constrasting pattern more easily and I don't have to keep picking up and rearranging the ball of yarn. It makes the work go faster.

Summer, thank you for sharing your brilliant designs with all of us. I was immediately drawn to your patterns bc of the bright colors. Bright and soft socks literally make me swoon. Talk about love at first sight. I am a perfectionist so once I get started on your patterns, I know it will take me a year or longer to perfect them. This means, making lots of mistakes so I can do it over and over. One thing that interests me, and which you sort of touched on in your video when you were discussing using english style knitting in conjunction with tiny circulars: how long does it take you to knit a typical pair of your color work socks? Im sure its a little different depending on the particular pattern so, lets say, the Tiny Dots Socks in your specific size? Thank you again, Summer, for sharing your time and knowledge. ❤

To think that for a whole cardigan I caught my longer floats by twisting my skeins of yarn! This method looks so much simpler!

@@summerleedesignco.6471 I have a beginner question. In watching this video, how did you cast on, blue only? When and how did you introduce the green? Ready to begin color work via your demonstration, but not certain of how to begin. Once begun, I will be able to continue. Thank you!

Looks like you did this some time ago, but here I am searching for help after five attempts to knit colour socks with floats. I tried altering my stitch count and needle sizes but still I can’t get the sock over my heel 😱. My floats do not look tight and I can pick them up as you show. The only thing I haven’t tried is a small circular. So that’s my next try out. I am determined to get this sorted. Thank you for your advice in this video. Your knitting looks excellent 🧶🌺❤️

Thank you for this. It is very helpful for knitting colorwork sleeves, as well. My one question (what brought me here) is if you catch floats in the same spot over and over- doesn’t the color eventually show through on the right side? I was always cautioned not to do that in colorwork, but I also haven’t seen an alternative to that nor can I think of a different or better way to do that in magic loop. Thanks

I wish I had seen this video a few months ago! I've slowly been knitting this pair of socks with colorwork hearts at the top (for my boyfriend), and because I normally knit rather tightly the colorwork part came out even tighter. Thankfully I would sometimes have him try it on while I was knitting, and I found out that it was very difficult to get it over his heel, and after washing it would most likely get even tighter. My friend who also knits helped by lending me some circular needles that are a bit bigger (I knit with 2,5mm DPNs and the ones I borrowed from her are 3mm circulars) so I had to unravel a big portion and do the colorwork again with the bigger needles. I probably would have avoided this if I watched this video first.

Hi Summer, thank you for posting such a helpful video! I wanted to ask for some clarification: you mention in this video that you go up a needle size to a US2 (2.75) for color work. Is that only for when you switch to color work for magic loop? In your podcast video you talk about how the addi mini circs US 1 is actually more of a US 1.5 because it measures as 2.5mm. So do you recommend using a US 1.5 (2.5mm) or a US 2 (2.75mm) needle for color work, or is the difference negligible?

Hi. I nit conential, but not the way you did. I have the main colour over the left indexfinger, but the tread goes the other way over the finger than you had.
My left finger touches the left needle.
The other colour can also be over the left index finger, and I pick the right one to knit or it can be in the right hand, and I cast it when needed.

Thanks for the great video. What if the float is in the yarn on your right (the blue)? Would the float catching technique at the end of the Magic Loop needle change? Thanks again!

I know when crocheting colorwork a good trick is to make sure you drop your yarn on the same side after your done with it. It keeps everything from getting all twisted up. I’d imagine it’s the same for knitting 🧶

Are the socks sturdy enough if knit on a size 2 needle? I usually use 1 or 0 to avoid them wearing outso quickly...

I feel like since the colorwork makes the sock thicker (since you’re holding another strand behind) it would be about as resilient☺️

Apparently 'lice' as in the stitch is pronounced 'leese' which makes it a little better name for a pretty pattern.
