Not EVERYTHING about this film is terrible; like this scene, it's actually quite good. Things just completely fall apart when we get to the ice palace, and yes, the overall impression is justifiably awful. You can clearly see how much Brosnan enjoys playing a little more serious. They just didn't fully go there. This film doesn't seem to know whether it wants to be "Licence to Kill" or "Moonraker" - it ends up being an atrocious hybrid.
View to a Kill, Diamonds Are Forever are laughable. Quantum of Solace isnt even a James Bond film (more of a action/revenge film than a Bond film) They're all worse than Die Another Day
This scene promises a WAAAAAY better movie than what he got. Could've been just as hard hitting as GoldenEye stemming from this scene alone, if it weren't for the absurdity splashed all over the rest of the film.
It's funny how this scene has real potential in one of the worst overall Bond films. You can actually see elements of M characterisation from Skyfall in this right here. At least they eventually used M's callous nature to her agents as a significant plot line in Skyfall. Bond accepts it as part of the game but statistically, there inevitably will be an agent at some point who goes off the deep end due to M's blatant disregard for people once their usefulness is at an end as we see with Javier Bardem's epic turn as Raoul Silva.
The first time that I see the 007 mainly of Pierce Brosnan suffering. He never suffered the same being captured in the earlier films. Always he escaped, in a way quite stylish. This time he seemed a beggar, that was hilarious, just the Brosnan. The movie was a little realistic in the beginning, but then it was a downhill. If the movie had followed this trend it would have been much better.
Could someone explain this scene to me?! Bond never gave up one word of intel to those who captured him, and M is just being a stuck up superior. I don't blame Bond for one second in his decision to go Rogue.
M simply didn't believe that there was a mole in the MI6 or elsewhere (wouldn't be the first time though i.e Goldeneye) and while I also think she went too far with her vitriol, there was no objective evidence to suggest there was a mole, while Bond was the only MI6 agent on NK's end, therefore the natural conclusion would be that he did it. She'd have to say something with conclusive evidence to the British government, and 'there might be a mole in MI6, but there's not even a scrap of evidence for that yet' just won't cut it. Politics and all, I guess
Bond was set up but only his enemies, Bond, and we the audience know that for sure. M has to make an objective call, she can very well trust him, but at the end of the day she has no idea if he was compromised or not. She's the head of their organization and his handler (she has to make the tough calls). The evidence the intelligence agencies have against him is convincing. Turning him over to an investigation is the "right call" on paper, but at the very least she should do a probe into the possibility of a mole. You don't just trust a spy just because they tell you that they are telling you the truth. It's a common trope in some of the Bond films that he gets framed for a crime/terrorist act, and on the surface M and the agency are forced to denounce him, whilst helping him from the shadows (because at the end of the day they do trust him).
On top of what the others said, keep in mind one thing: Bond gets caught literally every movie. Even in the original video games, he gets caught once or twice. As far as I'm aware, this movie (of all things considering how silly it gets later) is the ONLY Bond story to show a story of Bond not having any options of escape. When he's caught, he's *legitimately captured* for more than a year. By the time M's gotten word that he got caught by the enemy in any movie or game or what have you, he's gotten out by the time she finishes a sandwich. This movie, though, he has absolutely nothing to work with. No gadgets, no escape plan, nothing. He's rather realistically captured for once. She has no idea how he'd work under that sort of immense pressure. She simply can't believe he wouldn't crack when Bond's finally been thoroughly defeated.

The Brosnan's period was the last period that really had the face of 007. The films of Craig seem to Hollywood movies. For me, in my opinion, Pierce Brosnan was the best Bond of all. It had class, it was sophisticated, it had the appearance of a british agent, had a hair stylish. Had the best gadgets, the best soundtracks, the best gunbarrels. That was the most controlled vehicles is diverse. Was the most killed. That was the most used weapons varied. His era was almost perfect, he sinned only in the plots. Stay making films faithful too to the books is very boring. To think it was Craig's period very dull. I tried hard to see Craig as 007, but couldn't. He simply does not convince me as 007 and never convinced me as 007. Find an actor like Pierce Brosnan will be difficult. In my opinion the only one who could get close to Brosnan is Tom Cruise.
It was a big anniversary being the 20th film, and they tried to cram in too many references to previous films, too much CGI, and too many product placements. Forgot at some point that a script is supposed to actually tell a story with the characters on screen. It's a shame because I love Brosnan's Bond, but even the best actor can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. That said, there are worse Bond movies, and several of Moore's were even cheesier. If they'd done Silly from the start or stayed serious it would have worked, but they shifted gears too fast in the middle and gave everyone tonal whiplash.
He’d rather die in prison than let zhao loose. She says u had ur cyanide… he threw it away yrs ago. ?? Guessing they’re supposed to take it immediately just before capture. 😪
Because he wasn’t meant to allow himself to be tortured in the first place - he states that he knew there would be no attempt to rescue him or secure his freedom if he was captured and M states that agents are provided with cyanide. Seems pretty clear what the expectation is of a captured agent...
Pierce really tried his best but was given a truly awful material to work with. Once he went to Cuba it's like the movie forgot about 14 months of torture because it seemed like it had no influence over him nor it didn't break his psyche.
Here Bond and M most certainly do not get along and also have no chemistry between them (by chemistry I don't mean romantic or sexual chemistry but just on the level of relationship). What is so amazing (and wonderful) is that Daniel Craig's Bond and Judi Dench's M also traded barbs all the time but you always knew that they admired each other and perhaps even loved each other as sort of a mother and way ward son. Daniel Craig and Judy Dench went perfectly with one another. in Casino Royale yes but most especially in Skyfall, which was a masterful exposition of both wonderful characters. Here, there is just no connection at all (not even on the antagonistic side) and so it feels like simply a wasted scene with pointless dialogue.
I do disgree abit, Craig and Dench part yes you're spot on, but Skyfall was lame, but then again I'm not the typical millennial who praises that overrated non sensical mess like its the best thing ever. Apart from Silva and M, Skyfall offers nothing new or exciting

I'd watch Skyfall before I could watch Spectre again. Spectre has a better storyline, Skyfall's film on screen just looks amazing. panning all around M and her past catching up to her was amazing. In Spectre it was reverse as James's past came for him.

@@joeywildman1100 When you effortlessly escape any villain's traps for 19 movies, you kinda have reason to be cocky as all hell. This is the first and only time he actually had no way out.
In what way is it unrealistically harsh? As far as she is concerned Bond screwed up the mission, got caught and in the months since has been giving classified information to the enemy during torture. He's the only MI6 spy in North Korea who has been caught and there is no reason to believe there was an insider despite Bond's protests. On top of that his supposed actions have meant they had to do a deal to get him out to prevent further leaks and in doing so had to release terrorist Zao who had recently bombed a summit. He's also in no physical or mental state to return as a field agent at that point. The fact she reprimands him and tells him he needs to be assessed and is "no use to anyone anymore" seems quite a legitimate point of view. You could argue that by track record she should have more faith or trust in Bond, but he's been in isolation for months and under extreme torture so the idea that he had cracked again seems reasonable, far more of a likely occurence than a rogue MI6 agent setting him up. If anything M is remarkably restrained. Many of her interactions with Daniel Craig's Bond are far more harsh than that. This is actually the most realistic part of the movie, it goes downhill as soon as DNA transplants, a diamond laser weapon, ice palace and terrible CGI become involved as far as lack of realism is concerned. Oh yeah, and an invisible car!!

Tom Cruise? - NEVER
But Tom Cruise is gay, so says Family Guy and he's as short as Stewie Griffin lol mehehehehe!
I don't think I would picture Cruise as Bond at all.
Tom Cruise had his own spy movies..... he would look strange as 007
Cruise has own spy movies not to mention he isn't British
Maybe she should say the “you don’t like me Bond” again and it would be “really ya figure 😃 “
Poor James. It must really hurt being thrown away like that.
This should have been such a good Bond movie, and it was for about 50 minutes. And then it all went to sh1t.
M lookin' X- tra good.
Whatever Brosnan did for that doesn’t matter, but that is one optimal physique I would love to have. Minus the hair, of course
She might aswell have said in this film before this scene take th Bloody Shot
I think Pierce Brosnan is a very Beautiful Man bar none, I bet Judy Dench thought so as well!
yuck
Wow....gay much?
I know it's personal preference but Dalton was better looking in my book.
M sure reflects my sentiments on the whole brittney griner victor bout prison swap.
I believe she knew he was going to figure it out and showed him the code to get out when she came in
Jesus Christ, It's James Bond :P
Always loved this bit.. could have made it really dark, wasted opportunity in my opinion
Hola quisiera saber si la puede subir la película completa de otro día para morir
Total authority from Bond.
James Bond at his most Irish
lol cuz the actor himself is Irish
@@taylorxwx2367 yes but you are supposed to hide your real accent …. It’s called acting
It is a standard procedure to keep ransomed agents shirtless.
Pierce Brosnan is a great actor, but am I the only one who finds his line delivery weird in this scene?
His accent fluctuates throughout the series, doesn't sound British at all
MI6's chief seen unable to keep her agents in line.
Not sure if it's intentional or not, but Brosan's Irish accent pops up a few times during this scene.
He loves it
He’d rather die in prison than let zhao loose. She says u had ur cyanide… he threw it away yrs ago. ?? Guessing they’re supposed to take it immediately just before capture. 😪
Never underestimate James Bond
1:53 I know the rules and number 1 is no deals get caught you’re giving up

Nice sweater.
When James Bond became Jim Morrison
He looks like jesus to me.
Goes from bond to jesus of nazareth......wow
This scene works really well. Actually the first half of this movie is rather good. The second half is terrible.
Why would anyone be pissed that someone gave up under torrure?
Because he's trained to endure torture
M was being too much of a bitch towards Bond here.
Yeah, it was Frost.
Because he wasn’t meant to allow himself to be tortured in the first place - he states that he knew there would be no attempt to rescue him or secure his freedom if he was captured and M states that agents are provided with cyanide. Seems pretty clear what the expectation is of a captured agent...
I know that this is just a movie but, how did James Bond survived 14 months of torture?
Because. He's James Bond
People survive years of torture, a us army vet survived 6 years of it and had every bone in his body broken
The VideoWatcher X he’s James Bond that’s how.
Yeah, how did he survive listening to that awful Madonna song in the background for all that time.
Because he's Batm... No wait. James Bond.
Never knew Bond was Irish 😂
BOND 007,HE DOESNT BREAK,HE BREAKS AND DAMAGES THINGS,HE IS LIKE THE MARINES,FIRST IN
Pierce really tried his best but was given a truly awful material to work with. Once he went to Cuba it's like the movie forgot about 14 months of torture because it seemed like it had no influence over him nor it didn't break his psyche.
Bond turns into jesus christ
I'm sure it was
Here Bond and M most certainly do not get along and also have no chemistry between them (by chemistry I don't mean romantic or sexual chemistry but just on the level of relationship).
Apart from Silva and M, Skyfall offers nothing new or exciting
alwaysOPEN4business SKYFALL WAS AWFUL. It is a complete peice of shit. And Im a millennial. What you have is sheep mentality with the people who like it. Whenever ive pressed someone to explain why they like it, they give up half way through and go "oh i guess it wasnt that good"
Yea Skyfall and Spectre are both equally shit, Spectre is just more blatantly shit cause the film makers were even lazier. Here's hoping Bond 25 is great
Christopher Thorkon agreed
I'd watch Skyfall before I could watch Spectre again. Spectre has a better storyline, Skyfall's film on screen just looks amazing. panning all around M and her past catching up to her was amazing. In Spectre it was reverse as James's past came for him.
Not sure if James Bond or Jesus...
Jesus.
I thought Jesus died... CRUCIFIED at Golgotha? What's he doing in a modern day hospital?
Um, I think you must have missed the end of the Jesus story. SPOILER ALERT... he came back.
(And joined MI6).
No, Bond went full Charles Manson. Helter Skelter anyone?
Wish me luck
So wait, why did the North Koreans let Zao go? Like, wasn't he a total enemy of the state?
Because the hardliner Generals were in control of much of the KPA, and General Moon likely had to appease them. Keep in mind that General Moon was very fearful of the hardliners getting full control of the army to restart the Korean War.
“The names Christ… Jesus Christ.”
Jesus the spirit of Allah, the word of Allah, the messenger of Allah, the Messiah.
I liked this film. Sue me.
Hello Pontius… The names Christ… Jesus Christ
hey hippie! get a haircut!
Seriously M?!😕
Why would he throw away his cyanide?
Because he is James Bond, not a coward.
Starting to think it was more over confidence
Joey, it was because it was past it's expiration date.
Maybe, he has a belief against suicide.
@@joeywildman1100 When you effortlessly escape any villain's traps for 19 movies, you kinda have reason to be cocky as all hell. This is the first and only time he actually had no way out.

Bond looks like aragorn here lol
Unrealistically harsh dialogue in a completely unrealistic movie
not really
This is arguably the most realistic scene in this unrealistic movie
suck it. You loved every minute of it
In what way is it unrealistically harsh?
James Bond should be like this.
Moon raker IS unrealistic.
i am Som Marcaan Mhan Dici
Then maybe you shouldn't be living heeeeeeeeeerrreeeeeee!
I blame the austin powers movies for the route this film took.
I despise those movies, there just constant sex gags, like family guy if he was a spy.
MI6 betrayed 007
