if you got knee injury before, you'll understand how scary it is to make it worse, or even became handicap. for NHL star like he is, its nightmare. so give him a time
If it is tendonitis, resting it might not help at all. You can rest for 3 months and there is chance it might come back right away. If that's the scenario, I think surgery is the only option. I am not expert though, I just had it myself years ago.
Jersey burning armchair coaches. He’s learning a complete game. Teams target/ double team him more. Hello?? Takes awhile to get new tricks. He’s a smart player. Even Huggy and Mills cough the puck up that results in losses
😂😂😂😂😂 Two way alright, he plays when he feels like it, and he doesn't feel like it. You obviously do not know what a "Two way" player is because that comment leaves me dealing like you smoke meth !
Also key to remember that there was talks about him being traded to Carolina before he signed that contract. Management seemed to say hey we want you to sign or you could be traded. Could also play a factor mentally.
Petey is someone I have a lot of trust and confidence in. He's not gonna be like JT who wears everyone on his sleeves and you see all his ups and downs(he was toxic when the team was under Bruce and Bo). Petey is quiet and at his best when he's all business and just left to do his thing. Worst thing the Canucks can do is trade him, as the return will be low due to his current slump, and trading him will likely see him go to a team willing to shelf him to fully recover and you know he's gonna be motivated to torch his disbelievers by putting up career numbers everywhere. Give him time(it might be a whole down year, but he probably needed to be sat from late March last year for at least 2-3 month), and he's a pretty solid bet to get back to his groove. Unlike guys who rely too much on physical gifts, Petey's a perfectionist who likes to polish every little tool in his bag until they become options to be deployed when the chances arise.
Why would you have any trust or confidence in a loser like this? This is the second time in his career he's just decided to disappear for months on end. he cost his team bigtime last playoffs. He's garbage.
I feel like one thing people don't mention is that Petey said himself that he isn't 100%. And giving the nature of tendonitis, that definitely appears to be true. Tendonitis doesn't fully heal over time, it randomly flares up -- so missing practices to heal won't do much.
I really just think his confidence is shot. He doesn't smile anymore either. I think he's just mentally not there anymore, his body language has been really bad and you can tell he's not who he was. He's scared to hold the puck, he seems to pass it off as quickly as he can. Likely cause physically he'd get worked over by a 14 year old. I am amazed that this guy hasn't bulked up. With his height, his frame could very easily handle 200 pounds and he'd be an absolute force out there. But even at like 185-190 at least he could handle light shoves more than he currently does. A couple games ago, I swear, he got shoved over 3 times in the span of 5 seconds. I have to imagine he plays with that in the back of his mind. Knowing the lightest shove is gonna topple him over. So he passes the puck off as soon as possible. We've been talking about him being injured for months now. If he was, they would have just sat him. Team has no problems resting players. They did it with Cole and Lindholm late last year. I am sure our budding superstar player would also have been given games off. Miller touched the ice ONCE in preseason cause he had something nagging. So I am of the mindset he's physically healthy. Unless for some reason he's the one player the coaching staff just won't allow extra rest. Which would be really weird.
this player is not a canuck in 12 months, there is no way. in a market like vancouver, a slump like this will ruin all ties with the fanbase, media and frontoffice, its just easier to trade him. and i think lots of teams will take a chance despite the 11 million dollar contract. vancouver should be happy the "upside" will make him tradeable without retaining salary.
it's going to ruin his relationship with teammates too. No one is happy about this. THe only one not extremely upset about it is pettersson, because he clearly doens't give half a fuck about anything to do with hockey.
No team will touch this contract with a 11.6 foot pole! First of all, which team actually has room for 11.6m for the next 8 years? Add to that the uncertainly of his performance and even of his desire to play hockey and you've got a pile of crap stacked 92m meters high. Trading him would require a combination of retaining $10m salary a year or 5-6 first rounders and getting nothing in return. Best course of action is if Petey will void his contract on his own. How to do that will require help from management, teammates, and fans to chase him out of this city for good.
i hate to think its just simply he doesnt want to be in van anymore would hate to see him go and regain his form i really hope he can get this figured out soon we need top form petey van better not trade him anytime soon
he literally disappeared at the all star break and this season isn't looking too promising. i'm having trouble with the injury explanation when he didn't missed a practice or a game last year and he had the summer to mend but he looks like the same guy he was last february.
@@TerryMcLean-tg1jq Plenty of swedes are awesome hockey players with extremely high competitiveness and a genuine desire to be their best. Not Pettersson, obviously, but plenty of swedes.
Such an amazing dude and hockey conductor of elegance shot hits and dekes. But i starting to belive the most belivable explanation is that he is somewhat depressed or mentally blocked right now. It can take several years. Playing in Colorado or better Carolina or San Jose would be much easier for him right now.
Think about this. Before the season started he said he didnt want to negotiate until the end of the season wanting to prove he was a 100 point player (and get paid like one)and the previous season was no fluke. At the start of season he came out, like shot out of a cannon, playing better than he ever has imo. Driving play and hitting, actually being way more physical than normal. Then right around when his production tailed off he suddenly was in a rush to sign a contract. Was he hiding an injury from the team🤔 I dont know I still lean towards hes having some sort of mental breakdown.
honestly, not sure where you got the stats, but the stuff like top shot speed probably happened once, and were only like 10% of the way through this season. something like average shot speed is something that I'm more worried about, and average skating speed. he hasn't done a lot but constantly talking about it won't help him fix it. it's like telling someone afraid of dogs, "oh don't worry this one is nice" or "he's all bark and no bite" it doesn't solve the underlying issue
The stats relating to his top shooting/skating speeds are from the NHL Edge website which tracks that data for every player. The other stats like shots per 60 are either from NaturalStatTrick or Moneypuck!
Welll, the Canucks just got rid of the terrible Louis Eriksson contract so it seemed perfect timing to sign another Millstone contract... 11.6 million a year?!? Really?? If he would be injured Toccet would have put him on LTIR The skill is all there - but the character might be on par with that skill and many times big money overwhelms the little character that was there in the first place. Spoiled players don't have the urgency to work hard since they were told over the years that they are the best - the new contract merely confirmed his own bias.
I think the supposed "fans" think more about his contract than EP40 does. And I dont think, I KNOW, those same "fans" care more about the money than he does.
I honestly think a trip to players assistance program to work through his mental state wouldn’t be the end of the world. He’s gotta work out what Evers going on with professionals away from the media the team the everything. Laine did it last year, if that’s what it takes to get petey back I’m all for it. But 8 years of a scared petey with no confidence is going to kill any chance at a cup goodbye.
I could see him taking that route. It's the easiest way to get out of having to put in any work and it gets the fans off his back. Plus you can brand your trade request as a fresh start. Unfortunately for him, you can only pull that card once.
he's still a good playmaker & if he scores 100 points all assists? good enough - just get him linemates that he clicks with (he'll set 'em up, they'll knock it down
If he has a serious lingering injury like tendinitis, why don’t they just rest him and get his body 100% right. What’s the point of playing him for 80 games when he’s simply not productive, something like that doesn’t just heal itself. Sure, you’ll nurse him to the playoffs but then Is he going to magically produce with the same knee injury?
Would you trade Petterson and Hughes for mcdavid? Asking all Canuck fans. Edit: I also think it's his injury, this year I think he hits 115 points 2 goals and 113 assists.
Yeah mcdavid and Miller would be a good combo, 100+ points players, and they both study each other a lot. Hughes is a great d man and petter sun will get back on track I hope.
This isn’t a real take is it? He’s been one of the hardest working players his entire career. It’s the top league in the world, if you have an injury plaguing you it can easily make you fall off and look average. There’s no doubt in my mind what has happened to him is physical.
@@NGG1983 Oh bullshit, he's never put in the work to really improve his weaknesses. It's why he's still so skinny and so incredibly weak on his skates.

@@nostalgicleopard4036 No not really, he's completely fucking over the org by failing to live up to the standards that were expected when he signed. It's still not fraud or criminal, he's just an asshole.
Great anlasis. People underate his improvment in his defensive play. He needs to shoot the puck. Get that killer instinct back. Hes definitely trying out there. I think patience for now is the call. If he can tie in both sides of his game and gel with the right players i think his confidence will come back.
People massively overrate his defensive play as a pathetic excuse for his overall absolutely trash level of play. he's been outscored at 5 on 5 this season, until that changes maybe shut up about his supposedly good defensive play.
@ I don’t care if he does or doesn’t, I want the loser gone. He’s just gonna do this again and cost them again. He’s too lazy to put in the work or too much an arrogant loser to get help with his mental issue. Either way he’s a liability even if this current slump ends.
Anyone remember how ownership and the media essentially forced him to sign early when he wanted to wait till the end of the year? I remember ownership suggesting they might trade him. That’s prolly what led to him playing so bad
@gudius Literally not true at all. 2018-19 - 71 games 66 points 19/20 - 68 games 66 points 20/21 (lockout) 26 games 21 points 21/22 80 games 68 points (oof) 22/23 80 games 102 ppints (where he should be) 23/24 82 games 89 points He's been 1 ppg or over for 2/6 seasons. On pace right now like 0.5 ppg. It's simply not good enough to justify his contract.
@@carterreid789 Have you? First year he was amazing. Second year... about the same. Third year hurt. Fourth year he sucked half the time. Fifth year he was awesome. Sixth year he started out good but completely and totally fell apart and had an incredibly shitty playoffs. So yeah, one great season. That's it.
I've never been a Petey fan. It's guys like Miller and Garland, those extroverts with bellies of fire that I cheer for. Wanted Pettersson traded to Carolina last year, hope he gets traded in his 1 year window before his no-move kicks in, this year.
Gimme a break more like the most over-rated and over-paid canucks to ever play for that team. That contract is going to rival Erriksson's contract ( Hmmmm, another overpaid swede)
So now the question becomes, once it becomes clear that his performance will not improve to a satisfactory level, what can management do to minimize this enormous loss in salary cap over the next 8 years?? It's clear he's a super negative asset, as his production is on par with an entry level contract (ie Bains) so trading him would require retaining ~$10m salary a year and/or throwing in a crapton of draft picks (like 5+ first rounders). Is there a possibility of making him feel so uncomfortable playing in Vancouver so he would terminate his contract on his own? Like healthy scratching him for the rest of his career in Vancouver? Or humiliating him by making him the waterboy on the bench and having his teammates pick fights with him at practice? I hate to say this, but Petey really brought this on himself. He deserves it.
This year is kind of feeling a little weird... I say just stick to the mid, make the playoffs... not overthink anything else. Rebound next year with a vengeance.
It’s not a contract issue it’s a coaching issue. He also doesn’t vibe with JT. I’d be pissed too if I had to play with Bains or Mikheyev… I say put the lotto line back and then go from there
@@wuhaninstituteofvirology The excuses for Pettersson never make sense. It's a horrible injury that causes him to miss zero time. It's Tocchet, just ignore the part where he produced fine under Tocchet for a solid year.
Kid is a flash in the pan, league has figured him out and he was never that good. Dude is a solid second liner with 60 point being his norm from now on. Shame he now has a boat anchor contract but that’s the Canucks way.
He put up 100+ points his first 80 games under Tocchet. He was producing at a 110 point pace until February. it's his approach to the game. He's arrogant and lazy and doesn't have nearly enough commitment to improving himself.
Let's cut out the hype and the wishful thinking about Petterson, and get down to the cold hard stats. It was a mistake making him one of the Top 10 Highest Paid NHL players right now, because he is not on that level. He's a great player but he's extremely inconsistent and this season so far he has been very disappointing. Right now he is way down at #305 on the NHL League Leaders list for goals and assists, with only 1 goal and 3 assists. Meanwhile Boeser and Miller are up at #74 and #75, which is where Petteson should be too. But if you think he is suddenly going to start exploding and in the next couple of months catch up to Boeser and Miller, and get up into the Top 20 ranking ---- sorry, but it ain't going to happen.
there should be some way to protect teams from losers like this that demand all kinds of money and holds out of the team. hes done it for both his contracts and then disappears. there should be a metric for a player to live up to to earn their pay and if they dont then the contract is void. to many times this burns nhl teams by greedy players

He won’t ever hit triple digits again. Let’s see who is right, we can necro this comment in a few years when he is back in the SHL
@Matt-mh5us Ever again.
@@B-a-s-i Be lucky to get 20 points.
Same was said about Ovi last season.
Also key to remember that there was talks about him being traded to Carolina before he signed that contract. Management seemed to say hey we want you to sign or you could be traded. Could also play a factor mentally.
Should have traded him
He caught a case of the "Huberdeau" after signing that retirement contract
Unlike guys who rely too much on physical gifts, Petey's a perfectionist who likes to polish every little tool in his bag until they become options to be deployed when the chances arise.
nah
Why would you have any trust or confidence in a loser like this?
This is the second time in his career he's just decided to disappear for months on end. he cost his team bigtime last playoffs.
He's garbage.
I feel like one thing people don't mention is that Petey said himself that he isn't 100%. And giving the nature of tendonitis, that definitely appears to be true. Tendonitis doesn't fully heal over time, it randomly flares up -- so missing practices to heal won't do much.
Wow, a selfish pathetic loser makes excuses for his pathetic play.
I am shocked. SHOCKED.
It randomly flares up any time he needs an excuse for half assing it.
He loves Vancouver and Alvin isn’t dumb, he will never trade Petey.
Then why doesn't the coward ask for a trade?
Most likely, defenders have just learned how to stop him.
he literally disappeared at the all star break and this season isn't looking too promising. i'm having trouble with the injury explanation when he didn't missed a practice or a game last year and he had the summer to mend but he looks like the same guy he was last february.

Such an amazing dude and hockey conductor of elegance shot hits and dekes. But i starting to belive the most belivable explanation is that he is somewhat depressed or mentally blocked right now. It can take several years. Playing in Colorado or better Carolina or San Jose would be much easier for him right now.
He has 14 shots in 9 games.. For 11million a season lol
He doesn’t care he’s rich
Think about this. Before the season started he said he didnt want to negotiate until the end of the season wanting to prove he was a 100 point player (and get paid like one)and the previous season was no fluke. At the start of season he came out, like shot out of a cannon, playing better than he ever has imo. Driving play and hitting, actually being way more physical than normal. Then right around when his production tailed off he suddenly was in a rush to sign a contract. Was he hiding an injury from the team🤔
I dont know I still lean towards hes having some sort of mental breakdown.
I think this is most accurate. He may be going through some kind of deep depression.
He’s a Swede got his bag doesn’t care
@ he doesn’t care
Maybe it's because there's a new up-and-coming Elias Petterson
Lets not talk about elias pettersson.
It’s not pressure,he got his bag and doesn’t care anymore
The only logical and explainable reason
Terry your an idiot. Stop commenting so much.
honestly, not sure where you got the stats, but the stuff like top shot speed probably happened once, and were only like 10% of the way through this season. something like average shot speed is something that I'm more worried about, and average skating speed. he hasn't done a lot but constantly talking about it won't help him fix it. it's like telling someone afraid of dogs, "oh don't worry this one is nice" or "he's all bark and no bite" it doesn't solve the underlying issue
Really??
If he would be injured Toccet would have put him on LTIR
The skill is all there - but the character might be on par with that skill and many times big money overwhelms the little character that was there in the first place. Spoiled players don't have the urgency to work hard since they were told over the years that they are the best - the new contract merely confirmed his own bias.
I think the supposed "fans" think more about his contract than EP40 does. And I dont think, I KNOW, those same "fans" care more about the money than he does.
Petterson has hurt feelings , he needs a friend
Needs a winger
I honestly think a trip to players assistance program to work through his mental state wouldn’t be the end of the world. He’s gotta work out what Evers going on with professionals away from the media the team the everything. Laine did it last year, if that’s what it takes to get petey back I’m all for it. But 8 years of a scared petey with no confidence is going to kill any chance at a cup goodbye.
I could see him taking that route.
It's the easiest way to get out of having to put in any work and it gets the fans off his back. Plus you can brand your trade request as a fresh start.
Unfortunately for him, you can only pull that card once.
$11.6M for 8 more years...yikes!
He's nicknamed the alien because of his neck
There's 92 million reasons why he's struggling.
he's still a good playmaker & if he scores 100 points all assists? good enough - just get him linemates that he clicks with (he'll set 'em up, they'll knock it down
If he has a serious lingering injury like tendinitis, why don’t they just rest him and get his body 100% right.
Edmonton wouldn't and I hate the idea of trading Hughes, but it's McDavid.
Yeah mcdavid and Miller would be a good combo, 100+ points players, and they both study each other a lot. Hughes is a great d man and petter sun will get back on track I hope.
He is made for life now, he dont have to try no more. Thats the mentality of these guys these days.
This isn’t a real take is it? He’s been one of the hardest working players his entire career. It’s the top league in the world, if you have an injury plaguing you it can easily make you fall off and look average. There’s no doubt in my mind what has happened to him is physical.
Nope.
Every other guy on the team is onboard with putting in the work. It's just one pathetic loser who thinks he doesn't have to move his damn feet.

Wasting ANOTHER year of this core is unacceptable.

it's his approach to the game.
Meanwhile Boeser and Miller are up at #74 and #75, which is where Petteson should be too. there should be some way to protect teams from losers like this that demand all kinds of money and holds out of the team. hes done it for both his contracts and then disappears. there should be a metric for a player to live up to to earn their pay and if they dont then the contract is void. to many times this burns nhl teams by greedy players
