Growing up, I learnt most of my Italian from Mario. But I guess it's time to level up with Luca
Pixar only gives love letters to different countries.
Brave = love letter from Scotland
Coco = love letter from Mexico
Luca = Love letter to Italy
Ratatouille = love letter from France
Up = Love letter to South America and Oakland
Inside Out = love letter to San Francisco

I was picking up on a lot of Chinese influence
1. Her name is Mei
2. She turns into a "red panda" looking creature which are animals native to Southwestern China
3. And the red paper lanterns which are prominent throughout China
Mei wore a maple leaf hat , shirt and there were Canadian flags hanging in hershool

I looked up on Google translate and I noticed that piacere means nice to meet you and girolamo trombetta is I think is like a name.

REAL MEANING OF "GIROLAMO TROMBETTA"
I'm Italian: "Girolamo Trombetta" is a name and lastname but it sounds very similar to "Giro la mano Trombetta"
"Giro la mano" means "turn the hand"
"Trombetta" means "small trumpet"
Luca and Alberto when they hang the hand each other they turn their hand and then pretend to play a trumpet

I absolutely love how some phrases are in Italian, instead of the movie having its entire dialogue in English. 'Luca' feels more authentic that way.
Also, I think that Italian is an amazing language!

About two years ago, I wanted to learn Italian after hearing Be Prepared from the Lion King in Italian (lol), but I started to loose interest until I finally decided not to anymore. Thanks to Luca, my Italian interest is coming back!
As someone who knows Spanish, it’s cool that I was able to understand most of the words or phrases in the movie.

Oh boy, italian Scar is voiced by a very popular actor and VA, Tullio Solenghi. He's incredibly talented and I remember an interview where he said Disney America hired him because they liked his singing, and that the thing he liked the most about voicing Scar was being picked up for the role, because american people (Disney Italia sends candidates tapes and recordings but it's Disney America that decides who gets the part) have no idea of all the things he has done for Italy and how famous he is, so he was proud to be chosen for his talent and not his name.

Actually, "Forza!", even if the literally traslation is "strenght", in the context that Giulia used it, it means "Come on!"
The way this movie is teaching me so much Italian is just impressive-

Technically "Paguro" means hermit crab, not crab xD
Crab in italian is "Granchio"
Also, cherry is "ciliegia"
Coffee is "Caffè"
Also, "Forza" literally means strength but it's used as exclamation as encouragement, so it's better translated in "Come on!"
And “delicious” is not used in reference to food in Italy.

Okay this video made me realize how deep Pixar started Italian culture. They could've made a movie about Italian characters in an Italian town but with no Italian words or signs anywhere, it could be more appealing to the English audience, but nope, they got really real with the movie and made it more authentic to Italian culture.

What does "Nice to Meet you Girolamo Trombetta" mean?
The reason is related to the type of handshake: rotation of the palm and back and forth with the arm. "Girolamo" is nothing more than an assonance to "turn the hand" and "trumpet" refers to the gesture of playing the trombone.
