I was driving home this morning when this song came on my radio.... my mother played this song for me on my eighteenth Birthday.... today makes exactly 12 years that she passed away.... the tears were real this morning... but also I am so thankful that Lauren sang this song!!! My Grandaughter sang this and won a contest in Mt.Carmel, Il and then sang it at her Grand mothers funeral several years later. It was Mamie's favorite song and Abby had to record it for the funeral as she couln't sing it live for crying.

we can't help that we have accents. nobody can unless they just make themselves speak without it, which is just phony. we speak how we're spoken to. so much so that to this day black people speak the way they do. many linguists believe Black English and Southern American English are directly related due to slavery of course and the great migrations that occurred after it was abolished. people all over the country don't speak Standard American English, like people in New England, especially Boston and New York. Even the Southern dialect has many different forms but because of the stigma and the stereotype of Southerners many people in the south make themselves speak without an accent so they aren't immediately stereotyped as an uneducated, racist hick. which is really just stupid but as a southerner I guess I can understand but I could never force myself to speak with some phony accent. I mean, really why not just walk around talking with a British/Russian/Australian or w/e else accent. It'd be just as fake, in my opinion. sorry for the long lecture lol

She has a great, powerful voice and she's rock-solid in tune. But... no.
She turned it into an almost hip-hop R&B thing. The trick to this song is its elegance and simplicity. Even in her most powerful moments, Lee Ann Womack has a child-like honesty in her delivery. A big part of that is keeping the melody lines straight without all that excess vocal embellishment that Alaina adds in here. She *could* sing this really well. But not like this.

She’s supporting a children’s hospital so kudos to her. But my gosh this is absolutely one of those songs that needs to be done as close to how the original is. Those little pop flourishes the singer does in the video ruins the song.
