The resulting economic hardship of the Covid-19 pandemic and lockdowns have left the urban poor of Chow Kit with little to no hope.
Although there are many small traders, hawkers and heritage shops operating in Chow Kit for many years, the district has become a hotspot for urban poor, sex workers, drug users and the homeless over the past three decades.
Despite the government’s initiatives to cushion the impact of economic implications of lockdowns, most of the people living and working in Chow Kit are crippled with little to no income for months.
