these top fuel engines are so violent, that it is scary to go near em. I have been to the drag races this year end its is an experience like no other. The violence of these engines is beyond your imagination. 10/10 would recommend
First time I seen top fuel at a strip, they were running pro mods, and they started one of the top fuel cars in the pits, when they blipped the throttle we could all feel it in our chests and it overcame the roar of the pro mods.
That's one of the best things about having a pit pass. When they hit the throttle like that, that goes through your whole body . I'm sure the mechanics probably get nervous at times being that close to the headers
The electric dragster that Big Daddy is developing will never compete with the beautiful noise, vibration and smell that a top fueler gives us. Electric dragsters? BOOORRRRING.

I got caught in the nitro blast on a startup once at 10 years old and my dad and uncles were laughing like hell at me all eyes watering and snot pouring out haha. Ever since I’d learn to keep an eye out for the tool trays coming off the top of the engines- which meant they were ready to fire up soon. I can’t wait to put my kid in the same situation haha!
Garlits, Kalitta, Roland, Jim Dunn, Shirley, Ivo, Beck, Ruth, Ace, Coil, Leonard Hughes, Paul Smith breathed nitro for decades and half of em are past 80.
I wish they still did the throttle wacks, just went to the fall nationals this past weekend and none of the teams that I saw did. Still nice to see them warm up and smell the nitro though
More like stupidity. 180 decibels can ruin your hearing for life. One time is all it takes for terminate damage. These beasts are entertaining but extremely loud. These videos cannot reproduce the volume top fuel and funny cars produce. Pit warm ups are one thing ....... atarting line launches will damage your ears for life. Please take notice of this if you ever attend an NHRA race. Enjoy your experience but protect yourself as well, I promise you'll be back for more.
accumulators for what? there is one for clutch cannon oil and some use one for blower lube oil, but neither of those have anything to do with starting.
the wacking was to seat the clutch. they don't do that anymore. doing so would hurt performance and just cost more money for parts. SPR and a couple others still do a wack, but the car isn't in gear.
I hate to see crew behind the exhaust not wearing full face gas masks you can clearly see the guy on the left getting nitro in his eye a couple times, that is why you see many crews all wearing gas masks, the nitro gets in your sinuses or eyes and it will burn like hell :D

I love my local dragstrip, they only sell one kind of spectator pass, all can go take a walk through the pits and see the cars up close
