It’s kind of late to evict Susan. The landlord should have done this before. Shame it took the loss of life for management to move on this. They were well aware of Susan’s troublesome behavior.

You can’t just evict someone if they haven’t done anything illegal or against the lease agreement. Eviction requires court approval which will not be granted without a legally sound reason for eviction.
Also this case occurred in early 2022, a time when it was extra difficult to evict tenants due to COVID-19 relief policies. In some states during this time, even breaking lease agreement (such as not paying rent) was in some cases not something that your landlord could evict you for.

local laws can punish tenants for calling the police, even if the tenant was acting out of fear or legitimate need. Here's the thing, though; AJ was in a position not to bang on the door yelling... the fact is that those kids don't have a mom because their mom - AJ - and Susan were both dumb af. There's a part of me that believes that AJ was really pushing it.... the whole "I'm a mama bear and will loudly protest the rights of my kids".... and now AJ is dead. AJ was likely a bonnet queen with delusions of power. A younger woman who thought she could confront an older woman pushing 60.
I could easily believe that there's a racial element to this whole f'ed up mess.... but I'd not dismiss the possibility that AJ was playing the "racist" card against her neighbor.
Now AJ is dead.... and, notwithstanding any other causes which may exist, AJ is dead because she was stupid. Understanding your environment and assessing risk is critical to anyone's safety. AJ f'ed up. Oh well.... I reckon that the baby daddy's can take over with the kids.

Not sure what this one ^ is talking about (people like to weave in their own prejudices) but let's say these were women of the same race...Woman 1 did the wrong thing by behaving this way, to children, over a common area (why not call the landlord for clarification. It'd be squashed there. If the response isn't to your liking, make plans to move)...the children went to their parent, the right thing to do. Woman 2 picks from several choices - 1. In days gone by, adults would speak to one another about children's behavior. You would think this is the reasonable thing to do...2. Woman 2/the mother could have called the landlord or police. She chose to go to the neighbor's door, knock/"bang" and shout her message through the closed door. And with no weapon or crossing the threshold "meets her fate"...there was opportunity for things to be done differently by both adults (especially knowing the outcome), but ending someone over words through a door as a result of a confrontation you started obviously carries a lot more blame...motivated by racial discrimination or not

I opened it up and my neighbor was about to yell at me when another neighbor called out, "the people in that house did not put snow in front of your house because that was done by the city snow plows." Apparently, my neighbor thought our hired snow removal guy placed snow on a spot she dug out for her car. My neighbor who was about to yell at me for something I did not do suddenly looked embarrassed. I said, "you need someone to help dig you out. I will help you." They'll benefit from it if they can find a good, honest, committed therapist. For most people, only about 5% or 10% of the experience in therapy is really novel though. 90%+ of it is basically sharing the wisdom that most people's parent's neglected to really drill in properly.
If you have good friends, though, once you learn all these things, you can usually move on as long as nothing new and big comes up.
A big exception to all of this is people who use their therapist as a substitute for a close friendship/friendships, and people who have narcissistic tendencies and would rather just continue to pay to ask the same questions and get the same answers from their therapist, rather than following anyone's advice and changing any major aspects of their life.

That’s how these women used to be dealt with. Children would be taught to fear them and stay away. Now people tell their kids they are entitled to provoke and yell at old crazy people. Especially if the old crazy person is white and the kids are black. There’s no “let’s take her some cookies and see if we can get her adult daughters phone number to have her committed” it’s just straight to “there’s a racist get her!”
We will only see more and more horrors and entitlement and hatred grow.

Such a sad case of loss of life. It appears to have been well known in the neighborhood that Susan Lorincz was difficult, harassing children, using derogatory language and taunting neighbors and their children. I wonder why no one tried to have Susan Lorincz evicted - most lease agreements have eviction clauses that do not permit harassing behavior between tenants. Requesting landlord intervention before behavior escalates isn't out of the question. The next step would be to file with the court system to protect yourself and your loved ones against harassment. Going toe-to-toe with a quarrelsome neighbor has proven many times not to be the safest choice. Thoughts and prayers to the family and friends of Ajike Owens.

When AJ tossed the sign, it wasn’t that the police just “decided not to charge anyone”, the neighbors confirmed that AJ did not toss the sign towards Susan and that she didn’t throw it at her. There were witnesses who saw the whole altercation and that is why the police decided not to charge anyone.
