Hello! from Ireland. So many people tell us we should sell a lot of the things we produce on our little farm. I tell them that people couldn't afford what we would need to charge to cover even a minimum wage of around €10/hr. We make cheese and butter and yoghurt and wine and sausages and all manner of beef. pork and chicken products. I'm fond of saying "We work like peasants but eat like Kings!".

What you should consider is having WORKSHOPS, teaching your skills. Gardening, Cheese, butter, & wine are all viable skills. As well as your processing (butchery) and food preservation methods. People in American pay good money to come to a workshop on someone’s farm and learn how to process chicken or pigs… making cheese is an art that many people are intimidated to attempt without some sort of hands-on instruction or mentorship. I have tried cheese a few times and, when my cow freshens, I will try again.. mentorship is a valuable “service”. Bread baking is also a skill that many struggle with.. These are all valuable, reproductive skills that could be an income source for you instead of the products themselves..

Somewhere along the way we lost our enjoyment in jobs in order to become more efficient. The only Few Acres job I would change is cleaning out the chicken coop. I always wish the building was taller and that bucket would fit inside so Hillary didn’t have to squeeze out the door with every shovelful. I’d still have her shovel!

Every time you come back with not so good news about the pigs, I think about that huge renovation you were so excited about doing for a pig addition. I think you made the right decision making it into barn to house your beautiful 'stable' of tractors - along with the winter barn for the cows. That is so ideal! When you started pulling out the tractor I thought: "oh no! He's not really going to wash it, right!? Go back in the house and go back to your cross-stitching" lol! Glad it's done. :-) She looks good!

I love listening to your wisdom. And, I love watching your animals and your machines that help you get your work done at the farm.
The only animal I have here is a squirrel, who looks for a treat every day, including during this cold. I feed him some apple and a peanut and pecan, his two favorites, most days. And, if I forget, he slaps his tail or knocks on my patio door.
Wintertime is a quiet time. Falling of snow ❄️ is beautiful.
The sounds of a farm are so relaxing. Just like cross stitching, which is one of my favorite retirement hobbies.

Mr. Pete; Back in the day when I worked on Farmall in Rock Island Ill. tractors that came off the line were towed out into a staging yard. The tractors that were used for towing had a special three point hitch where the towing tractor would back up to the tractor to be towed and with the hitch would pick up the front axle of the tractor and then pull it out into the yard, stop, lower the hitch and then proceed to go and get another one. No climbing up and down on the tractor to hitch and unhitch, no chains to attach. etc.

I started with standard embroidery on seed corn bags my mother would soak in a bleach solution for a while then wash and lay on the grass for the sun to bleach out more. Iron on patterns you could buy at the dime store for a nickel. Life was simpler then. I just turned 81 and find I need cataract surgery now. Old age is not for sissies.

Yep, them eating keeps them warm. Same with horses. As long as they’ve got a lot of hay to eat then they’ll stay warm. Our horses live outside full time and have a cover with dry bedding. They don’t need stalls. In fact they like being outside. They get blanketed when it’s below 30 degrees. What you have to understand though is that if it’s above that temp and they’re blanketed, they’ll sweat and then can get pneumonia. Same as if they are wet you don’t want to put a blanket on them. And if you put it on when it’s too warm their winter coat will not be as good. Most horses you see blanketed have clipped hair for showing and dressage and stuff. We have quarter horses, drafts, and saddlebreds/walkers. Not show horses, and they get good coats

So I’m in Florida and we recently had our 1 week of winter this past week…a wet cold, lows in the low 20,s & a high of 48 ( I know it doesn’t sound to terrible to most) However, I tried Pete’s trick of emptying the water hose that water the horses, and even though it was 30ish the next morning- it worked wonderfully! I also had 3 heat lamps on the ground surrounding the pipe to the well to keep the water pump/ pipes from freezing. Thanks for the tip!!!

I prepared beef brisket professionally back in the last millennia for roughly nine years. I must have prepared tens of thousands of pounds of the stuff. Never thought about keeping track of that particular statistic. Kind of like riding a bike, once you know how, you just know how. I imagine there are an infinite number of ways to end up with an excellent result. So much depends upon your equipment, climate, resources, and grade of beef. You're spot on saying that the brisket is a tough piece of meat. The "secret" used by many of us so called experts is a low fire and plenty of time. Once a good bark is established the meat is often wrapped in butcher paper and/or foil to steam in its own juices. This helps to tenderize the meat and prevent it from drying out too much. Looks like your system works well too. I don't think we'd string you up here in the Lone Star State for serving your style of brisket. I enjoyed seeing your method and enjoy watching the progress on your tractor restoration.....

We've raised pigs all my life when I was young and fed a lot from the garden and waste from the table. Never had a problem with the way the pork tasted. That's all the old folks used to feed back in the day. Hence the old saying " slopping the hogs". Would never feed restaurant food unless I knew where it was coming from like a local bakery or local eatery. Those tanks heaters work excellent in that type weather

Thank you for saying that, about pig feed. During the cough cough one of thr providers of local pork must have done that, because the pork began tasting bad. I quit buying it. Now I see the local provider no longer carries it. She can be pretty fussy about receiving bad reports about things in her market. So, basically, sadly the pig farmer must have put himself out of business feeding the pigs junk.

I so look forward to your videos. I find myself checking your channel daily sometimes. After careers in the military and the railroad I wish I had gone into farming instead. The work seems so satisfying and like you Pete I would just like to be outdoors watching the animals most days. Thanks again for a wonderful video....peace

Dad always enjoyed watching sports on TV and mom sat nearby doing cross stitch and other needle work. She always kept baby blankets she made to give to new mothers.

On Iowa Country Girl they use baled cornstalks for bedding. Very good channel. Rachel is a sweetheart.

I agree, cold weather is better than humid and 90 any day. Unfortunately we get more 90 plus days here in Georgia than cold.

I suspect Billy's shooting blanks. You know Brownie's a proven sow.

My 2 cents about the ticking engine noise.....my 856 had the same ticking sound, and it was nothing more than the inection pump. The Rossa Master pumps have a fuel metering plate inside them that gets a little play in it and makes a clicking sound. Ran it that way for a couple thousand hours, never got ny better or worse.

I like/ love all farm videos. Either yours or some others. My Grand parents had a little one. A milk cow, chickens, ducks maybe a goat or two. So I've always enjoyed the videos. As I said I watch yours& other farmers!!!!! I enjoy all them. Most of the ones I watch are young couples on other states. There are only a few that have pets. Your s is one that has the old equipment runs, fixes & uses them. Just like the old days. You could not afford new,may you made due with what you had& got. As I said before. I enjoy all your videos!!! Brings back some bad& grateful memories!!! So thank you so much. Keep up the great work folks !!!!!!! GOD BLESS!!!!!❤❤❤❤❤ Ps I live in Pa,nearErie.

Pete, I get it. I could watch these videos at 2x speed to be more efficient, but I enjoy watching them at regular speed. I know its not as efficient, but that's the way I like it.

I watch Pete's videos a second time, while I do yard work, and let those ads run and run and run... 😉
