Cycle Monkey How To: Rohloff SPEEDHUB 500/14 Oil Change

- In this video, Cycle Monkey founder Neil walks you through the oil change process for the Rohloff SPEEDHUB 500/14.
You will need the following tools, all of which are available in the Cycle Monkey online store (store.cyclemonkey.com).
- One oil change syringe
- One filler tube
- One 25ml bottle of Rohloff cleaning oil
- One 25ml bottle of SPEEDHUB oil
- One new oil drain screw
- One 3mm Allen wrench
- A few shop towels

Has Rohloff ever thought about adding a second threaded oil port 180 degrees from the other? One could be used to pressurize the hub with the syringe while the other is used for an exiting place for the oil. Might shorten drain times. Just a thought.

Seems like Rohloff could put another drain screw on opposite side to assist with faster draining. Could force in air or extra oil.
Why pull 25 ml air out after adding cleaning fluid? When the screw hole is open to atmosphere, won't that be enough to balance the pressure inside the hub?
Hello Neil.. Can you demonstrate how to remove a wheel with a Rohloff hub when the bike has a chain. I have a Azub Trike and the dropout lets the axle drop straight down. So the chain doesn't loosen, like those dropouts that move the axle forward to remove the wheel.
Hi Neil, great video. According to Rohloff, they instruct to use the syringe to pull the fluid out after 15 minutes. What are you thoughts vs. the method you just showed?

How or rather why is it that you don't put a run of Loctite on the Grub Screw ...I seem to remember doing this on my First fill of Oil in my Hub ...Cheers well thought out Video!
It is simply not needed. Also, there would be danger of contaminating the oil, and you would have to make sure there is no oil at all on the threads in the hub, or the Loctite will be useless. Just my opinion.
I don't get it !? First you say to make make sure that ALL te cleaning is out because it might leak through the seals.
But in the winter we can blend hub oil with cleaning oil ???
Exactly. Oxymoron much? Also, you can use the syringe to extract the oil, you don't have to let it sit and drain overnight. Who is this clown?

If you buy the Rohloff oil change kit, it includes printed instructions.
What CRAP is this that I have to change my oil on the bicycle now if this is the case why not I just start driving my car again because i do not see any benefit from this hub at all what a JOKE if
