A Day on a Gladstone Tug

- Опубліковано 8 вер 2023
- I meet a mate in Gladstone. He invites us aboard as he skippers his tug out to escort a gas ship out of the harbour.
We cruise extensively along the East Australian Coast on our 13 meter catamaran. Join us as we explore new cruising grounds, cross bars, fix all kinds of problems, ride out rough weather and live aboard for extended periods.
We even have a playlist that gets us on other peoples boats.
We hope that our videos encourage others to get on board and experience this fantastic lifestyle.
If you want to follow us in real time check out our Facebook page ......

Thanks for that Norm and Mal. It was fascinating.
Thanks for watching.
Fantastic episode Norm, thanks for taking us along.
Nice piece of engineering those tugs, regards Steve.
Thanks Steve. Yep had a ball filming it myself. Cheers Dude.
You know your stuff.
And you obviously enjoy.
Glad to see
I definitely enjoy anything to do with boats dude.
I live near the River Tyne in the UK , you realise how vast a towing company Smit is when you guys get tug services from the same company. Love the channel name ! Great viewing. Ivan
Thanks for watching Ivan. I guess they have to be a big company. Two new tugs going into service now. 15M each.
Thanks, can’t believe how much room there is inside!
Yep. They're very well done.
This was awsome !
What a magnificent machine.
Thanks for watching. She is a great boat.
GREAT VIDIO GUYS
Known Mal for some time, top bloke very generous with his community volunteer work with VMR . Helped me out with his engineer 10 years ago to gain more practical knowledge in my pursuit of gaining my marine engineers' qualifications. Sharing your knowledge and experience is one of the best gifts you can give . Thanks again for sharing everyone involved..
Yep Mal is a great bloke and was fantastic to be able to take all the Dudes along for a look at his work.
What a great video Norm. Excellent camera work, informative, very interesting and thoroughly enjoyable! It's a pity you missed the Logies for this year - absolute gold!! Cheers
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks Dude.
That was really interesting! Thanks Norm!
Glad you enjoyed it. I loved filming it.
I have brought this tug from Turkey Tuzla to Gladstone, happy to see she is still in a nice shape
That was November 2014
Now that would have been a trip.
Well done Norm and thankyou for the insight of the daily working of a tug boat.
Cheers Michael
Thanks Michae, it was an interesting day.
Ein super Film , hat mir Spaß gemacht es anzusehen 😉😂🤣
Danke. Dude.
Wow, That was bloody fantastic!
A tour and a job, how good is That.
And what a good communicator Mal is..
Than you, sub'd.
Thank You, Sub'd.

Glad you enjoyed it Dude. And thanks again Mal.
That was really interesting Norm, thanks so much for sharing. Grant
No probs Grant. Glad you enjoyed it.
What a beautiful boat
Yep It sure was.
Fascinating machines. I saw a video about some rich European or Russian who bought a massive second hand North Sea oil rig supply tug and did it up inside. It was astonishing.
They are. thanks for commenting.
Wow thanks, that was really interesting. My Grandad worked on tugs after the war in Portsmouth Naval base, he retired before I was old enough to see him work and he's long gone now. Thanks for the insight. Andrew
Thanks for watching Andrew.
Mate 👍👍👍👍 that was top self 🍺🍺 cheer’s
Thanks for watching Dude.
Mate that was bloody great. Pity we couldn't get a proper listen to the sweet tunes in the heart room.
Sorry about that Dude It was a great engine room.
Been a marine tech/ engineer for the last 52 years. Heard a lot of sweet songs in my time but you can't beat the throb of big h.p. and multiples engines running in the same room. It nearly makes an old man feel young again.@@MotorSailingforOldDudes
Such a great video, thanks. Not just showing us the fabulous toys, but also giving a great impression of how tugs and their crews work with the pilot to get things done. If I wasn't older than a boulder I would look into skippering a tug off the back of your video. Thanks again for an informative and entertaining ride
Thanks for coming along Dude
Very interesting. Thanks for the ride.
Glad you enjoyed it.
Merry Xmas Dude
Wonderful channel. Cheers from the South Carolina Lowcountry (USA)
Thanks dude. Great to see you guys watching in the states.
Couldn't agree more with the other comments it was a really interesting episode and big thanks to you and Mal because I know it's not easy to get a ride on a tug
Thanks Dude
That was brilliant.
Thanks for watching Dude.
Very interesting indeed Malcom I enjoyed it.
Thanks Dude

Fantastic Norm, that was brilliant. Certainly a bit more pressure than waiting for the tide to come in at GKI
Yep. They make it look easy.
That was a great video ! Thanks.for sharing..
Thanks for watching Dude
What an incredible bit of gear ,, 1980 I worked at QAL , had a 6 yo and a 4 yo , quite often to kill the afternoon we would go to Facing Island on the old Calypso ,, how things have changed in 40 and a bit years ..
Yep it certainly has.
Brilliant thanks mate.

Thanks Dude. It was an experience.

Norm, that was a fantastic video of inside the Tug and the operations of it. I’ve always wondered what it’s like on a Tug. Thank you to your mate “ The Captain “ and also you and Mal.

Thanks Dude. Excellent machinery.
Thanks Norm , Very interesting. You want to see if your mate can get you a ride on the Pilot boat.
Great thought Dude
. I'll see if it can be organised on way south.
I survived the construction of the LNG plants on Curtis Island.
Yeah. That was huge.
great video, we were in Gladstone and saw your boat at the marina, Ive also been on Peter's boat at Coomera lol
May have been down south Dude. Sorry I missed you.
Wow
Thanks for watching.
😎👍
Cheers dude
Fantastic Norm.jealous. That’s what my son wants to do. Any idea of the pathway?
Yeah Peter,
Start off as a deckhand on a commercial vessel and work your way up. Lots of sea time and study required.
I think the ENGINEER Rules the roost , the skipper knows just enough to be dangerous
Yep. Didn't get a chance but would have liked to spend a lot more time with the Cheif.
Robert Allan Ltd. designed tugs?
May be. I didn't ask.
I would love to get a job on a tug boat. How do you go about being a deck hand on a tugboat
Not sure. I guess you could apply with the company. Would definitely help if you had some sort of marine qualification. Coxswain or Master certificate
Pity its a foreign owned company
Yeah. I think they have tugs all over the world.
Interesting episode thanks Norm
Thanks for watching.
Way kuul channel and way kuul way to live out your Goldies.
Ill probably need to wait til I'm 115 yo at this rate
You can do it Dude. Work hard retire early.
