The 1939 film is not the original; that would be the 1910 film. One more fun fact for your list: Milton Berle and Bert Lahr appeared together in a movie called _Always Leave Them Laughing._ 🙂
I'm so happy this is one UA-cam. This was my absolute favorite movie when I was little. I still think of this version of vintage blown glass shapes as the true look of the Emerald City.
I'm so glad I stumbled upon this! I used to watch this on repeat as a kid in the 90s and it's making me feel so nostalgic! I never realised Liza voiced Dorothy in this! Thank you for uploading ❤
I also used to watch this vhs on repeat as a kid in the 90s. Watched that same vhs until it literally broke itself from being worn out when i was in college. Many years later, Im reminded of this movie by a tiktok abiyt old 90s movies, and looked up the DVD to be able to show my kids. Amazon has it for $300! 🫠 Cheapest on ebay is like, $80! So thankful to this person uploading it! My kids are asleep but Im up too late, going to watch it by myself and share with them tomorrow 😅❤ Ill probably have nightmares tonight about the damn elephants. Lol
This needs to be a film, just like Wicked and Wizard of Oz. If this was turned into a film just like both of those, this film would be a massive hit. I think also Judy aka Liza - should sing Over The Rainbow 🌈 as a memory of going to Oz in the Wizard of Oz.
And the credit for that goes to Filmation Associates (1962-1989), which was co-founded by Lou Scheimer (1928-2013), Hal Sutherland (1929-2014), and Norm Prescott (1927-2005), who were responsible for popular kids shows such as The Archie Show, He-Man, She-Ra, Ghostbusters, Groovie Goolies, Fat Albert & The Cosby Kids, et al. It took almost a decade after Prescott made this proposal to Scheimer and Sutherland for this film to be released, and one point, Filmation almost shut down when they were $5,000 in the red. But thankfully, they survived until 1989 and gave millions of viewers many wonderful memories!
@Scarletspeedster68 Very interesting. I love ❤️ this movie. The great Liza Minelli singing "A Faraway Land" is so beautiful, together with the animation and story history-- wonderful.
@@Scarletspeedster68 This was, in fact, Filmation's first project, but others appeared first because of the money troubles. Happily, Superman came to their rescue; DC Comics was looking for a studio to create some cartoons about the Man of Steel, and Filmation fit the bill; the money they made from that project and others that came along enabled them to finish JBtO.

She gets taken to Oz in the first story, spends the whole time wanting to go back home, then she gets home and only wishes to go back to Oz. She makes friends and has an adventure and then just wants to go home again. Girl, will you make up your mind?
Im assuming theatrical, because i read something online a few minutes ago before finding this, about the tv version having bill cosby then replaced by someone else on the tv special. I had the vhs, didnt ever know it was a tv special at some point.
Liza recorded her dialogue and songs in 1962, at 16, as you may discern from the vocals. At some point the producer ran out of money and later resumed the animation work. It debuted in the UK and Australia in 1972; the US, 1974. Oz historian John Fricke has written here: - ozmuseum.com/blogs/news/18677956-three-titles-one-film-return-to-the-land-of-journey-back-to-oz-part-one - ozmuseum.com/blogs/news/19352644-three-titles-one-film-return-to-the-land-of-journey-back-to-oz-part-two - ozmuseum.co/blogs/news/25747588-three-titles-one-film-return-to-the-land-of-journey-back-to-oz-part-three
It took a long time. The dialogue and songs were recorded in the mid-60's, but then Filmation ran out of money for the animation, and began to make T.V. shows to build up their finances. It was finally completed in 1972.
The land of oz was created By the author of “The Wizard of Oz” and therefore along with all creative works by the minds of all intelligent beings, always finds itself safe and secure within its own parallel universe according to quantum physics theories and papers written to address that phenomenon. I’m thinking, if we assume that Dorothy in this story as well as the wizard ( not sure of the characters name) were the victims of being transported to this parallel dimension then what propelled them into that vortex? Since there was a storm going on which resulted in a tornado we could hypothesize that since there was electrical activity going on and tornado(s) going on it would make some kind of sense that perhaps a vortex was created in this type of environment that may have allowed Dorothy as well as the Wizard to travel to that particular locale in the multiverse. What say you?
