I think you should learn what a fetish really is and distinguish the difference between a fetish and an influenced preference. Being obsessed to the point of sexual desire is not what most women experience when they become attracted to someone. They aren't looking to fulfill sexual desires, they have genuine interests in these individuals based on what they've been viewing. That's just not the same as a fetish.
In my opinion, yes I do think Korean men are being fetishsized..Its ok to find Korean/Asian men attractive..But on social media you see something these days thats like a monster..All these girls w their look at me with my "Korean" bf, husband videos and Instagram pages and tik toks..And you see other girls in comment sections saying things like I want a "Korean" it's weird to see ppl say things like that its almost dehumanizing..Its one thing if you want to go to Korea to experience food and culture but happen to meet someone rather than intentionally seeking someone out because of their nationality, that is caring less about who that person might be as a human being , that is fetishism..
I'd like to think that korean media simply showcased what hollywood failed to, which is that asian men are also attractive. 6 years ago I had a Korean boyfriend and I remember people around me including friends and family look confused when I would tell them he's Korean, and mention Gangnam style, Kim Jong Un...I even had a friend ask 'why?' as if you can't just date someone because you like them. There has definitely been a shift and Korean men are seen in a positive light nowadays. It's not harmful to be attracted to someone of a different ethnicity, it's just when people get ideas and unrealistic expectations from Kdramas and Kpop that it's weird

I really don't think it's a bad thing for foreign women to have an increased interest in Korean men as long as it's not a fetish and they're realistic. They're just regular guys and deserve to be treated with respect, just like the foreign women deserve to be treated with respect and not like a "white horse" or a "black stallion." We're all humans. It's ok to be attracted to people of different ethnicities and cultures. It's a problem when it's a fetish and not genuine interest in the human being.

I think it’s the same way with Americans too. My mom is from Mexico and her mother approved of my dad because he’s American. She sees Americans as rich, handsome and successful (which we know not all Americans are those things). At the end of the day, you can like a person from another country/culture but ask yourself “Do I like them because of who they are? Or because they’re a (ethnicity type).”
I traveled in central/south america and mexico. It is true the concept people have of americans who live in the usa is that ALL are very well-off wealthy. Instead, we are a diversified group of wealth to make us live comfortably. I myself appreciate traveling to those countries learning the culture, people, and the amazement how discipline they are with finances and how community and family bring happiness. I think every country you visit shows everyone is not the same but brings the culture and values to life. You can have wonderful experiences and build new friendships. Korea is no different like others in the comments said their is so much talent everywhere, music, art, food, technology, entrepreneurship and more.

I think what’s missing from this conversation is age. It’s young women, teens which is the primary target audience for k-pop/k-dramas in the west. Also knowing the difference between a fetish and a fascination. A fetish has expectations e.g. fair features, romantic etc. based on the fantasy that’s perpetuated by the media.

Regardless of age, it's never cool to fetishize a group of people. As a Black man in Asia, I've had my fair share of experiences being fetishized by locals and other foreigners alike. While I've been able to avoid going to bed with those that would see me as only a fetish, the situation isn't the same for everyone. Those that also play in it via self-fetishization are also complicit. But the root of the issue is people (regardless of age) who fail and or refuse to see people as anything but their ethnic features.

Agreed. I don’t have a fetish for Korean men, I have a fascination based off research I’ve done in my quest to understand the Korean culture better. It just aligns more with my values than America does. Like, I want to move to Korea because of it. And I’m 45, so I’m not some puppy dog little girl fantasizing about Korean men. Now imagine if you had a team of people monitoring your skin care, gym trainers on call just for you anytime of day or night, people taking care of your hair, your clothing. I dated a white girl 20 years ago and all of her white friends said that we shouldn't be together because I was Korean. To have Korean men be in a positive image finally is refreshing. To be honest, this is just kind of like the fetishization that Japan and Korea have with Russian or Ukrainian girls for a long time. Or that a lot think that foreign girls are easy because of what they see in western movies/shows. But because this is a recent surge, I've been seeing a lot of "I will never date a Korean guy again" or "My terrible experience dating a Korean guy" and generalizing just from dating a few Korean guys, because they were expecting a K drama guy or something. Which unfortunately just seems to give them a bad reputation in general because of these videos. But people don't usually make videos about never dating a guy from their home country ever again, when they have a few bad experiences. There are bad and good people everywhere.

I think the sad thing is that some people refuse to acknowledge that other races can be attractive and will use every excuse in the book to make YOU look weird for being interested in someone different. There weren't a lot of East Asian guys in my schools growing up so that's likely the reason I never considered them in my dating pool until I got into Korean culture. People tend to jump the gun and assume I find Asian men attractive ONLY BECAUSE I'm a kpop/kdrama fan but I think that's such a weird assumption. I would never date someone I don't truly like as a person. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and it's sad to think someone wouldn't find you attractive all because you're from a certain country. Just like most people in the world, I would say I like good looking people but that's subjective. You instantly become more attractive to me if you can make me laugh, we have good conversation, and you show you're a sweet person. I came reading through to comments to find this specifically. I am a kdrama/kpop fan, but I don’t have a “fetish” for Korean dudes. Exactly what you said, if you can make me laugh, you’re genuinely a good person, then that is what matters most. Not about race, ethnicity, literally none of that is important. And I personally don’t know anyone that I’m friends with anyway that have a fetish for Korean people. Like literally not one. So it’s bazar to feel like this is a huge thing, when I don’t know anyone personally that has this problem… very interesting fs.
My first serious relationship was with a Korean-American. We were together for about 7 years and have a daughter. I learned a lot about Korean culture from his mother, and the culture has always been interesting to me (I'm generally curious about all different cultures) and I hope to travel there in the future to experience the culture firsthand. I have to admit that I do have a thing for at least one Korean actor, but I realize that he IS NOT the characters that he portrays. Koreans, just like any group of people, are all individuals and cannot be stereotyped based on Kdrama or Kpop idols.

Good Korean men are really great, but bad Korean men are really awful- there is a big division…. What I experienced in Korea so far, young Korean men are very gentle, sweet, polite, sensitive, and tries hard to make his woman happy. They can be very romantic and passionate too. If you meet a good Korean man, you will be happy being treated like a princess. 😂 but it’s hard for foreign women find good Korean men because they tend to be taken quickly by Korean women 😅
Another great subject for discussion. I found all the interviewees honest and forthright. I'm a Kdrama addict so I get the illusion foreign fans have for Korean men. They just need to realize that it's not 'real' in general society.
Same can be said for Hollywood movies. If you go to Japan most girls think western men are hot, but that's based on what they see at the cinema or the fact that they don't search for bad-looking men online

Lol trust me, the illusion breaks once they live here and start dating. Most foreigner women hate dating in Korea because it’s a nightmare. And unfortunately many kboo girls get caught in some sinister shit in Korea because of the illusion. Almost everyday in the online female expat groups there’s some young girl asking for help and the police won’t help. That’s why I suggest joining female expat fb groups or kakao chats to get the feel of things and to listen to others experiences because you won’t be able read the vibe like a native can. My husband is Korean, Im from Europe. ( I was not into kpop or anything like that).Let me tell you, Koreans have a lot of opinions on white and black women, a lot of stereotypes. They will use derogaotory terms sometimes to diminish my relationship with my husband. They many times think im Ukranian or Russian, and they tend to sometimed think they are whores, which is absolutely unacceptable, but it does happen occasionally. I come from a country that has literally almost no mixed mariages, and I think im the first and only from my town, and county that has married an asian man. The opinion has changed drastically, I now regularly get questioned about kpo or people have generally positive reaction to finding out my husband is Korean. So, on both sides, there are gross generalizations by some people. There are hurtful terms used all the time. There are many challenges for us in Korea and in Europe where we live now. But, we are generally very relaxed people and dont react to these things harshly, and it proved to make our lives better. So, bottom line is, there are problematic people on both sides.
If any foreigners want to experience an amazing side of Korean culture that isnt broadly known globally, try looking into Korean hiking culture and baseball culture. I spent a large chunk of my 2 month trip in Korea hiking and went to multiple baseball games. I met the most genuine, kind, happy, and curious (in a good way) people in those settings. Sharing food and drinks with total stangers and talking about our lives was just amazing.
@magaliep34 1 group I just met while hiking. We chatted at one of the rest areas along the trail. The 2nd was through AirBnB activities. I booked a hiking tour for a couple dollars and we did a group hike and went to a few local eateries.

As an Asian man I can tell you that we never once thought European women to be skinny. It's Asian women that are known to be thin then East African women coming in second.
I feel the standard for euros is more “tall white blonde” than skinny, but i agree. I am half japanese and half filipino. A lot of my cousins and aunts back home in the phillipines have always asked me if i had a white boyfriend and fawned over the prospect. A lot of my male cousins wanted to get with white women and put them on a pedestal over their own women. Lighter skinned asians like japanese and koreans are also placed on pedestals. The reason my Filipino family fawns over me for being mixed is the same one why i’m not in contact with my Japanese family. They disowned my dad after he decided to marry my mom. You can even see this in kdramas. I’ll give an example in the show business proposal. The male lead is a rich guy being pressured to get married. He doesnt want to get married so hes very blase on dates with fellow korean women. His father remarks that hes open minded and can date western women if thats his preference. Note how he said western (and when he said it - meant white). The dad would not have been accepting if the foreign woman his son wanted tk marry was black or brown or a darker skinnef asian. This act of placing certain races on a pedestal is fetishization in and of itself.
Plaid shirt is legit. Truth is people everywhere are eager to over-fantasize and have unrealistic expectations because they distract them from the more realistic and "less fun" sides of life- but they really have no idea how much they hurt themselves just to miss out on the simple beauty as well as complexities of *real* healthy relationship, and just life in General. There are stereotypes and fetishes for both parties from each side in general, but in the end it all depends on the individual. People having a more positive opinion of Koreans is great. Nothing is wrong with opening your horizons unless it leads to unrealistic expectations and unhealthy treatment towards others/yourself. If you're able to look at that person and not see anything but just "them" as a being, that's when you know you're on the right track. Foreigner or not, Korean or not, you care about them and they care about you the same. That's what matters. It's impossible to get there if you're looking for BTS in every Korean man. Or Scarlett Johansson in every foreign woman.
For me personally, something that stood out when I started listening to K-Pop and watching K-Dramas about 3 years ago, was the respect everyone has for each other. I'm not talking about just the men. I mean everyone. And friendly as well. I believe this is where the culture comes in. "Basic" things like addressing another person, or eating, etc. everything is done with so much respect and thoughtfulness towards the other person/people. It's really beautiful to see. And it's not just in K-Dramas. You witness this on reward shows, interviews, vlogs, etc. It's really something else. I understand you might get your odd one here and there, but which country doesn't? All I'm saying is the "Western world" can learn a thing or two from South Korea. I'm busy learning Korean and Hangul now, just because it's such a fascinating language. I'm glad I stumbled onto Korean "everything". Hopefully, one day I will be able to visit. 🙂💖
I love it how you've interviewed (in my opinion) very handsome men and they're all trying to convince us that Korean men are more normal/average like them...but they're really handsome! 😆 Honestly, I think because we've been exposed to something new and different that we find interesting. I don't think we're under any elusion that all handsome lead males from K-dramas are everywhere in SK.
23 years ago when in Japan with my students I admired the male teachers for their sensitivity and humble personality. A young teacher sang a love song to me; he was married with children but there was no premise of romance between us, it was simply a sweet gesture on his part. I also admired the people that wore masks in order to keep their germs to themselves. This simple show of respect, along with the deep bows that I received because of my advanced age really resonated with me. The Asian community is all about the greater good, and that sets them apart from other cultures including my own.
I loved hearing their opinions, and they mentioned an important fact that deviates from Hollywood media. In Korean dramas, specifically in rom-coms, men tend to be gentle and sensitive, which is different than in most Western media, which portrays men as tough and rough. This could be good, as men are more allowed to show emotions, and also create healthier "fantasies" than the" bad boy," so that women start looking for these more positive traits in relationships. However, it can also be used by some men as a way to lure people, and in reality they are not like that. Also it creates immense pressure for the men to be the "perfect boyfriend," which is unhealthy.

This is a interesting topic, since the popularity of kpop increased many girls in my country are obsessed with Korean features and looks, they go so far as to say a person looks like Korean if they have monolid eyes, its weird and disrespectful to say the least, appreciating a culture and its people is ok but associating a whole country and its population to a entertainment medium is not ok, regular Korean people are not kpop stars or kdrama stars, they are real people with real emotions like us, hope people understand this.
Even kpop and kdrama stars are not always the person they protray on screen. They have flaws, too. They make mistakes, maybe treat their significant other badly or have other issues.
i was introduced to Korean men through BTS music videos, then some K dramas… but, honestly, i find Korean men interesting mostly because videos like this, where you can see real men (on the streets), talking, giving their perspectives on subjects, looking at their fashion styles, seeing couples (mixed or not) being in love; and i find them more attractive because of videos like this! most of them (who are interviewed for videos like this) are so nice, kind, well spoken, polite, and good looking! so, you ordinary Korean men- don’t think we compare you with idols, because we don’t! we appreciate you for you! 💛
You have to know that it has been refreshing learning about Korea through the K dramas, BTS, and hearing the language. As a GEN-X African American female so let me just say the reason why I am loving their looks is because I grew up with only Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan as heartthrob Asian representatives in Movies. Now that we have this thing called SUBTITLES, more and more non English TV and Movies are at our disposal. I only took Spanish in school, not an Asian language available to me. Since becoming a BLINK and ARMY I have begun to learn Hangul but at my age, its not as easy as when I was younger. I've also always had mono/hooded lids so I saw someone with my eyes so that attracted me as well. Not quite sure why they assume BTS is the beauty standard... they WERENT and ARENT, except for Jin or V. If you notice, we fall in love with J-hope, RM and little Jimin who are not the Beauty Standard. None of the men you interviewed were unattractive so their perspective of their own value/worth is skewed by what they think we want or expect.

Let me add my grain of salt here. I started to learn Korean because I was impressed with the philosophy of life after having seen the movie spring summer autumn winter, and the series Black. For me this was a refreshing new way of looking at life and how to deal with life. While learning Korean (for the fun of learning a new language) I noticed how much I like the Korean humour and autoderision. This is also when I discovered BTS. Next, I noticed how well spoken so many Koreans in interviews are, how they are so skilled in storytelling which is fascinating for my scientific facts-based brain. After all this, I started noticing that, yes, the men are beautiful in their own way - but seen with my western eyes, which means I’m attracted to features that may not be seen as beautiful or fashionable in Korea itself. People tend to look at others through their own lens, with their own background… what is attractive to one may not be so to another. In sum, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. What's funny is that I had a thing for Korean men from when I was in high school back in 2004. I wasn't watching k-drama and my only kpop group I knew of was Shinhwa and I knew one song of theirs, lol. I grew up in a predominantly Asian area and I just found Asian men attractive in general. I still have a thing for Korean men 15 years later, lol.
I have traveled to Korea multiple times. It is true that there is an increase desire for Korean men. Probably about 10 years ago, you would see more white men with local ladies, but NOW I saw so many Korean guys with foreign girls on a night out.
I was in Korea a month ago Not one foreign woman was with a Korean man I've watched interviews and foreign women are always shaky and bored in all the interviews.

Korean women with a foreign husband only about 4,700. Where did you get 23% or 5% from? Granted with the foreign brides most of them were from Vietnam, China, or Thailand. It still stands to show that they are FOREIGN. Foreign women don’t always equate western.

Are you a non east asian? Honestly, I'm east asian and I find him the most average out of all the guys interviewed. Hardly can be described as handsome, charmingly straightforward and honest yes. We asians always say western and asian aesthetics are very different, esp the way western man view some asian women and deem them attractive. Those they see as attractive who be deemed as ugly by us (lack of a 3D feel)

This is such a great topic! I find Korean men attractive but I don't fetishize them. There's a big difference. A couple of years ago I watched this movie in 08, 09 called Ninja assassin and I fell in love with the main character. He was one of the most beautiful men I've ever seen and I had no idea he was Korean. I see the beauty in all people and I've been like that since I was a child. That's why I don't discriminate, I like everybody lol but there are people that have this obsession with certain groups of people because of how they look and they become obsessed and that's where things get weird.
I don't know why they made a big deal out of it. The number of Koreaboo is only a minority, 99% of the foreigners in Korea are normal, only 1% are koreaboo. Yeah I don't understand why it's a big deal.

Maybe because of their films and anime, it still happens today too. I guess that's why it's such a big deal but it can be weird.
Is the main lead named Rain, and did he have long hair? And was the female lead a black woman? If so, I LOVEEEEE that movie so much and it made me feel seen even though there was no romance really between the two.
Not our fault they are attractive. Is called preferences. The majority can speak more than 2 sentences and dress well and have manners. It doesn’t mean the personality is all the same and rainbows and flowera BUT they have the dating game on point. They handle themselves well so the first attraction is there, then actually having a relationship is another discussion 🤷🏻♀️

I have always been into Asian men and different men from many cultural backgrounds, however I will say this. Kpop introduced me to their music in the best way possible and with a combination of Kpop and Kdrama this introduced me to their culture more in terms of the food, the scenery, the language. I don’t hold everyone to a unreachable standard as like the one gentleman’s opinion stated everyone is different, however I do believe there are some core values that are standard in Korean Men regardless if they are an Idol/actor or not. They have a tradition that American men don’t necessarily have that I find very attractive. There is a courtship that I see in the Korean Culture that I truly appreciate. Again we would be naive to think that all Korean Men are perfect base off the Idol/Actor Fantasy.
And for those who think it's a thing that happens only with teens, I can assure you, as a Brazilian girl, it is not! I know women in their 30s who would go crazy with an oppa hahaha Man, even my mom is addicted to those k-dramas, and those beautiful actors, and culture, etc.

I really like historical Asian costume dramas. Because of that, I got a BTS video in my u-tube feed. I started watching a lot of their videos/listening to their music. I learned more about Korea because of it. I branched out to more modern Asian dramas. I watch things from many Asian countries, not just Korea. I like the fantasy created of a more gentle caring relationship, more innocence depicted. The world now can be quite harsh and this provides an escape. Sometimes though, it can create problems when you think "I wish my husband/boyfriend was more like that!!" But like romance novels (which I have never read or been into) this is a story, not necessarily real life although some may posess these qualities. We are all individuals and there is good and bad in all people and cultures. As far as age reference, I am a 68 year old white great grandma from the US.
I'm not into kpop(been a blink but I grew out of it). I've been watching kdramas since I was in middle school(not so much anymore) Honesly at the time I didn't know where is Korea. but one thing that I really like about Korea is their tv shows. Korean humor just clicks with me. As well the food seems to be tasty and the night life, transportation and fun activities to do. And the automatization and robotization of the city. That's why I want to visit Korea. Not for the men. They're only a added bonus.
I’m a black American female and I am interested in Korean culture and have been to Korea a few times. I do watch kdramas but I don’t fetish over Korean men, I don’t listen to BTS and I don’t have Netflix. This is all generalized stereotypes lol Edit: I did date a Korean man while there but it sort of just happened. I would not go there looking for anyone just because of something I saw on a drama 😂 Koreans have different personalities like anywhere else, stereotypes won’t go away but I think some people have to experience for themselves to understand that people from any culture or group aren’t all the same.

since i became a fan of kpop when i was 13, at first the attraction towards korean guys was mainly because of outer appearance und the showcasing in the media. now that i got older i still find korean men very attractive, but now it's mostly because i like men who are more on the traditional side of thinking and that's actually very rare in many western countries, especially where i live.
My best friend growing up is Korean. I've always had an attraction to Korean people. Recently we met up (we're in our 30s now) after his divorce.. we were joking about this new Korean fetish wave, so he's divorcing the perfect time 🤣

Yes, I so agree with those young men. However, they are are just so cute. Leaning about the true culture of Korean people is important and what I have found out, is very interesting. I do love finding out about different cultures and have no delusion of them. I wish I could visit South Korea as it is so beautiful from the pictures I have seen.
I really turned my expectations down when I went to Korea, because of course I know that the image portrayed in the media can not be for real, but then I was even more surprised that the people are actually really really beautiful and kind, both woman and men. I didn't have strong feelings about Asian men in general. I loved martial arts movies...but one day, I was on Netflix casting about for something different to watch. I found "Romance Is A Bonus Book." What surprised me was how handsome, sensual and kind the male characters. It startled me because I had not thought that way before. Then I watched a bunch of other Kdramas. By "Startup," I was hooked. Sure not all Korean men are Hyun Bin or Dennis L, just like not all American men are Ryan Reynolds, Pitt etc...but I will say that Korean men have amazing physiques
@microwaveeee of course, media can and influences one's perception of people. It happens every day of our lives and has been going on for a very long time now. People don't have an issue when white people are depicted as desirable, but have issues when POC are. You can't tell me white media has not made Asian men the least desirable men. Even I fell into that for a period of my life when I was younger. Their are good and beautiful Asian men just like any other race.

2 random observations: The guy in checked shirt sounds so much like text-to-soeech generator when he speaks English. I have massive respect for him learning English. My observation is more a comment on how important intonation is in a language. I am currently trying to learn Korean and pronunciation and intonation is impossible to learn from a book. Second observation. I find it so interesting how many foreigners who learn english end up using the word "like" as a filler word. I remember in the early 2000s when it becwme popular and common, especially in teen girls, and there was a lot of criticism. In fact there is still criticism, especially when the word "like" is overused. It can be very grating when it is every other word. Anyway i just find it interesting that the word "like" seems to transcend cultures and languages when English is being spoken. I wonder if there is a neurological reason which is linked to how human brains work?
There is a big difference between having a 'fantasy' ( and a type resulting out of that because these men are just shown with traits we are sometimes missing in the west) and being fetishized! It is never nice to fetishize someone but you can have a fantasy, because korean men also have a fantasy about western woman. And the media on both sides is really trying to give those fantasies so you can't really blame people to like what the country tries to portrait.
It's weird that women need to be told this. Or that they think women need to be told this. I don't think most women of any country go around believing in true love prince charming fantasies. Romance is a genre in every culture. And people from all over the world travel to other countries seeking new experiences and opportunities that they've romanticized in their heads. Foreigners arrive everyday in the US to date Americans. I think it's only of concern or notable to Koreans because their country is so small and homogenous and has only recently been more visible to the rest of the world.
Yeah even about 15yrs ago most people only knew about China and japan in East Asia. In fact Korea is the heart of East Asia and spread many korean cultures and civilizations to China and Japan since the ancient times.
Literally women and mail order brides are brought to America and even Europe by white men, but no one says anything. And those women are more likely to be exploited because they are from third world countries.

I don’t think it’s a fetish but more so people really enjoying and respecting Korean culture, food, entertainment, music etc. My love for Asians and their culture food etc started at 7 years old. I was and still am a huge fan of martial arts and the martial arts movies. As I got older I grew a love for the food, languages, culture, history, music etc through watching those movies and shows. There’s a lot to love about parts of Asia and the people far beyond what the men and women look like. A lot of their values and way of living is something to take notes on. So I believe it’s bigger than just foreign woman fantasizing over the men.
While there are people like us who truly just enjoy their culture, music etc and we find their common features to be attractive, there are Koreaboos who go around hugging random Korean men while calling them 'oppa', on the street without their consent 🤪
I don't think there's as much stereotyping and fetishizing going on as Korean people think. Any country's entertainment is always influenced in some way by the realities of their culture so that makes foreigners curious as to how much of what they're seeing is true to life and how much is just tv, and when you're a foreigner, I think that's a really fair question. You can't know about what you can't see or experience in-person, so that leads you to ask questions to those who do know. But so many Koreans seem predisposed to thinking that all foreigners foolishly stereotype or fetishize them that they don't always listen when you try to ask questions and write you off as just being too immature and ignorant to tell fiction from reality. Like I'm over here trying to ask real cultural questions, but just bc I mentioned that it was a kdrama that I saw _______ in, they imediately stop hearing me and just start lecturing me on how tv isn't reality. It's really quite annoying bc they're upset about being wrongly judged but they don't realize how THEY are wrongly judging you when you aren't even wrongly judging them like they think you are. Idek at this point how many ridiculous comments I've received from Koreans suggesting that I'm incompetent, immature, unable to tell Asians apart, what I am and am not familiar with or some other negative thing simply bc they have stereotyped all foreigners in these ways. And the Korean UA-camrs are the worst about this. The level of condescension and treating us all like idiots is really mind-blowing. I've also been fetishized by Korean guys for my looks. Literally ALL of the things they complain that they think foreigners do to them (but that most foreigners aren't actually doing) they are doing those exact same things to foreigners. Even this video kind of proves that point. These guys all attribute foreign girls ideas of Korea and Korean men to kpop, kdramas, and BTS, not at all supposing that many of us have interests in and certain views of Korea for countless other reasons. I've also had several Korean guys ask me as soon as say hi "So why do you wanna learn Korean? Kpop? Lol. BTS?" Korean guys have constantly made me feel like I'm not me, I'm just what they stereotype foreigners as.

Most people want to be desired bottom line, weather it’s a little fetishization or not. Asian men being more desired these days is much better than them not being desired at all. So who cares if these ladies are having a little fetish a lot of them end up learning a lot about the culture so at the end of the day it turns into a genuine interest along with some fetish energy too lol 😂 so what!! Personally, It doesn't have much to do with the stories in K-dramas. Although I have never met a Korean man in real life, due to my location. I did however realise that I was very attracted to Korean men, after watching them speak in the dramas. I'm attracted to the facial features of Korean men, and I love the way inflection and tone of their voices when they speak Korean.
I believe there are kind and attractive people in every country. I’m glad to see Korea receiving positive media attention. Just like all American men don’t look like Hollywood actors we understand that Kdramas choose the most attractive and talented people to promote their movies and shows. It’s a business. But, I am happy to see Korea receiving more attention. I’ve been introduced to a wonderful new cuisine and fascinating culture that I never knew about.
I'm now retired but I worked for a physicians office and our doctors were all Asian. We had Korean, Vietnamese and One who was in hiding from North vietnam.They were some of the nicest people I ever met. They taught me alot about the culture of their respective countries. I've always thought Korean men were very handsome, but more important to me was a person's personality. Since I was always one who observed people I was never one to judge a book by its cover. When I got married, did I marry an Asian. No, my husband was native American, but if I had met one who made me feel like my husband did, then yeah I'd have married him.
I'm a woman who's half western, half asian, and it kinda makes me laugh that they go on about how westeners believe all korean men to be good looking, but they point at themselves as the blatat example of that not being true, because i'd actually say everyone in this video was hella good-looking! yes, with different, distinctive features that perhaps do not match their beauty standards, but incredibly well put together and clean-looking, with their hair on point, great skin, great sense of fashion, just overall giving off a neat, boyfriend vibe. i've grown up in a western country and often visited my asian country of origin, not to mention i've spent almost a full year in korea, and i assure you, generally speaking, korean men ARE, on average, more good-looking than their western counterparts (and the rest of the world too). You could argue that it depends on your own taste and sense of beauty, too, which is fair enough, but the point stands that i haven't seen any men take care of their appearance as much as koreans, which immediately makes them look way better than everyone else. They simply put the effort in, so even what you would consider avarage looking guys look GREAT. And I mean that with an emphasis. They just don't realize it because when you are in Korea that amount of effort is a given, so they feel "normal" compared to their own country men, but as someone who's been to a fair amount of different countries all over the world, i assure you that korean men do stand out and their "avarage" stands quite higher than the rest of the world's "avarage". I do confirm that they aren't all as great as in k-dramas, though haha! But then again, not all men are depicted as nice and big-hearted. There are horrible men in kdramas too, and i think that's true to real life. You can't expect Korea to be populated only by main leads. What about every other character in k-dramas? The asshole cheating boyfriend? The villain? The abusive father? The narcisistic brother? I'm pretty sure we also get that kind of rapresentation in k-dramas, even the most romantic, fluffy ones. People just like to see what fancies them and ignore the rest lol
I'm 23 and I've always had a soft spot for Asian culture or Asian actors ever since I can remember. I remember clearly whenever there was Asian character in a TV show or movie I liked them automatically and it goes 10 years back to things like Maze Runner or Tomorrow when the war began. Then I had *no idea* what k-pop was. Many people discovered it at age of 12 and are now over it meanwhile my 12 y.o. self didn't know such thing even existed. I just admired the culture itself. Now whenever I explain to people that I started listening to k-pop *because* of liking Asians, and *not* the other way around, they are so shocked 😄😅
I have to admit I definitely have a Korean guy fascination. 🤷🏾 And I blame Lee Min Ho, Hyun Bin, Park Seo Jun, Song Joong Ki, Kim Woo Bin, Gong Yoo & all the cute Korean men I’ve seen in street interviews and other K-content videos. 😂 They’re nice looking men (not all, but enough) it’s normal for women to find them attractive.
I think it's a good thing for people outside thr Asian culture to know that the men from other nations are also attractive. As long as they are not dating you for you Nationality and expect you to be like the guy's in KDramas and KPop it's alright. 2:34 I don't agree about Korean guys being easygoing. Both Korean men and women are a lot more conservative and reserved compared to Europeans and North Americans. They really care about manners, physical image and other stuff in general, by the term easy going the only type of people that come to my mind is friendly ones who don't care or ridicule your flaws often, chill about everything and don't shove their standarts to your face.

The guy who was being interviewed at 4:55 has a similar mindset to me when it comes to dating. We intentionally try not to be extra nice and stuff because we want to be liked for ourselves more generally.
I think this happens to some extent, mostly amongst younger people. I feel like is the same as 20 years ago with the fantasy of Japan; its popularity was huge because of anime and pop culture and some just wanted to go and live that fantasy.

I think you should learn what a fetish really is and distinguish the difference between a fetish and an influenced preference. Being obsessed to the point of sexual desire is not what most women experience when they become attracted to someone. They aren't looking to fulfill sexual desires, they have genuine interests in these individuals based on what they've been viewing. That's just not the same as a fetish.

6 years ago I had a Korean boyfriend and I remember people around me including friends and family look confused when I would tell them he's Korean, and mention Gangnam style, Kim Jong Un...I even had a friend ask 'why?' as if you can't just date someone because you like them. There has definitely been a shift and Korean men are seen in a positive light nowadays. It's not harmful to be attracted to someone of a different ethnicity, it's just when people get ideas and unrealistic expectations from Kdramas and Kpop that it's weird

I think it’s the same way with Americans too. My mom is from Mexico and her mother approved of my dad because he’s American. She sees Americans as rich, handsome and successful (which we know not all Americans are those things). At the end of the day, you can like a person from another country/culture but ask yourself “Do I like them because of who they are? Or because they’re a (ethnicity type).”

I traveled in central/south america and mexico. It is true the concept people have of americans who live in the usa is that ALL are very well-off wealthy. Instead, we are a diversified group of wealth to make us live comfortably.

I think what’s missing from this conversation is age. It’s young women, teens which is the primary target audience for k-pop/k-dramas in the west. As a Black man in Asia, I've had my fair share of experiences being fetishized by locals and other foreigners alike. While I've been able to avoid going to bed with those that would see me as only a fetish, the situation isn't the same for everyone.
Those that also play in it via self-fetishization are also complicit. But the root of the issue is people (regardless of age) who fail and or refuse to see people as anything but their ethnic features.

Agreed. I don’t have a fetish for Korean men, I have a fascination based off research I’ve done in my quest to understand the Korean culture better. It just aligns more with my values than America does. Like, I want to move to Korea because of it. And I’m 45, so I’m not some puppy dog little girl fantasizing about Korean men. I think the sad thing is that some people refuse to acknowledge that other races can be attractive and will use every excuse in the book to make YOU look weird for being interested in someone different. There weren't a lot of East Asian guys in my schools growing up so that's likely the reason I never considered them in my dating pool until I got into Korean culture. People tend to jump the gun and assume I find Asian men attractive ONLY BECAUSE I'm a kpop/kdrama fan but I think that's such a weird assumption. I would never date someone I don't truly like as a person. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and it's sad to think someone wouldn't find you attractive all because you're from a certain country. Just like most people in the world, I would say I like good looking people but that's subjective. You instantly become more attractive to me if you can make me laugh, we have good conversation, and you show you're a sweet person. Race/ethnicity/nationality NEVER cross my mind as a deciding factor in dating. For Korean men specifically, yall DO NOT need to look like idols to be attractive lmao

I came reading through to comments to find this specifically. I am a kdrama/kpop fan, but I don’t have a “fetish” for Korean dudes. Exactly what you said, if you can make me laugh, you’re genuinely a good person, then that is what matters most. Not about race, ethnicity, literally none of that is important. And I personally don’t know anyone that I’m friends with anyway that have a fetish for Korean people. Like literally not one. My first serious relationship was with a Korean-American. We were together for about 7 years and have a daughter. I learned a lot about Korean culture from his mother, and the culture has always been interesting to me (I'm generally curious about all different cultures) and I hope to travel there in the future to experience the culture firsthand. I have to admit that I do have a thing for at least one Korean actor, but I realize that he IS NOT the characters that he portrays. Koreans, just like any group of people, are all individuals and cannot be stereotyped based on Kdrama or Kpop idols.

Good Korean men are really great, but bad Korean men are really awful- there is a big division…. What I experienced in Korea so far, young Korean men are very gentle, sweet, polite, sensitive, and tries hard to make his woman happy. They can be very romantic and passionate too. If you meet a good Korean man, you will be happy being treated like a princess. 😂 but it’s hard for foreign women find good Korean men because they tend to be taken quickly by Korean women 😅
Another great subject for discussion. I found all the interviewees honest and forthright. I'm a Kdrama addict so I get the illusion foreign fans have for Korean men. They just need to realize that it's not 'real' in general society.

My husband is Korean, Im from Europe. ( I was not into kpop or anything like that).Let me tell you, Koreans have a lot of opinions on white and black women, a lot of stereotypes. They will use derogaotory terms sometimes to diminish my relationship with my husband. They many times think im Ukranian or Russian, and they tend to sometimed think they are whores, which is absolutely unacceptable, but it does happen occasionally. I come from a country that has literally almost no mixed mariages, and I think im the first and only from my town, and county that has married an asian man. The opinion has changed drastically, I now regularly get questioned about kpo or people have generally positive reaction to finding out my husband is Korean. So, on both sides, there are gross generalizations by some people. There are hurtful terms used all the time. There are many challenges for us in Korea and in Europe where we live now. But, we are generally very relaxed people and dont react to these things harshly, and it proved to make our lives better. So, bottom line is, there are problematic people on both sides.

If any foreigners want to experience an amazing side of Korean culture that isnt broadly known globally, try looking into Korean hiking culture and baseball culture. I spent a large chunk of my 2 month trip in Korea hiking and went to multiple baseball games. I met the most genuine, kind, happy, and curious (in a good way) people in those settings. Sharing food and drinks with total stangers and talking about our lives was just amazing.

I feel the standard for euros is more “tall white blonde” than skinny, but i agree. I am half japanese and half filipino. A lot of my cousins and aunts back home in the phillipines have always asked me if i had a white boyfriend and fawned over the prospect. A lot of my male cousins wanted to get with white women and put them on a pedestal over their own women.
Lighter skinned asians like japanese and koreans are also placed on pedestals. The reason my Filipino family fawns over me for being mixed is the same one why i’m not in contact with my Japanese family. They disowned my dad after he decided to marry my mom.
You can even see this in kdramas. I’ll give an example in the show business proposal. The male lead is a rich guy being pressured to get married. He doesnt want to get married so hes very blase on dates with fellow korean women. His father remarks that hes open minded and can date western women if thats his preference. Note how he said western (and when he said it - meant white). The dad would not have been accepting if the foreign woman his son wanted tk marry was black or brown or a darker skinnef asian. This act of placing certain races on a pedestal is fetishization in and of itself.
Plaid shirt is legit. Truth is people everywhere are eager to over-fantasize and have unrealistic expectations because they distract them from the more realistic and "less fun" sides of life- but they really have no idea how much they hurt themselves just to miss out on the simple beauty as well as complexities of *real* healthy relationship, and just life in General.
There are stereotypes and fetishes for both parties from each side in general, but in the end it all depends on the individual. People having a more positive opinion of Koreans is great. Nothing is wrong with opening your horizons unless it leads to unrealistic expectations and unhealthy treatment towards others/yourself.
If you're able to look at that person and not see anything but just "them" as a being, that's when you know you're on the right track.
Foreigner or not, Korean or not, you care about them and they care about you the same. That's what matters.
It's impossible to get there if you're looking for BTS in every Korean man.

For me personally, something that stood out when I started listening to K-Pop and watching K-Dramas about 3 years ago, was the respect everyone has for each other. I'm not talking about just the men. I mean everyone. And friendly as well. I believe this is where the culture comes in. "Basic" things like addressing another person, or eating, etc. everything is done with so much respect and thoughtfulness towards the other person/people. It's really beautiful to see. And it's not just in K-Dramas. You witness this on reward shows, interviews, vlogs, etc. It's really something else. I understand you might get your odd one here and there, but which country doesn't? All I'm saying is the "Western world" can learn a thing or two from South Korea. I'm busy learning Korean and Hangul now, just because it's such a fascinating language. I'm glad I stumbled onto Korean "everything". Hopefully, one day I will be able to visit. 🙂💖

23 years ago when in Japan with my students I admired the male teachers for their sensitivity and humble personality. A young teacher sang a love song to me; he was married with children but there was no premise of romance between us, it was simply a sweet gesture on his part. I also admired the people that wore masks in order to keep their germs to themselves. This simple show of respect, along with the deep bows that I received because of my advanced age really resonated with me. The Asian community is all about the greater good, and that sets them apart from other cultures including my own.
I loved hearing their opinions, and they mentioned an important fact that deviates from Hollywood media. In Korean dramas, specifically in rom-coms, men tend to be gentle and sensitive, which is different than in most Western media, which portrays men as tough and rough. This could be good, as men are more allowed to show emotions, and also create healthier "fantasies" than the" bad boy," so that women start looking for these more positive traits in relationships. However, it can also be used by some men as a way to lure people, and in reality they are not like that. Also it creates immense pressure for the men to be the "perfect boyfriend," which is unhealthy.

As a GEN-X African American female so let me just say the reason why I am loving their looks is because I grew up with only Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan as heartthrob Asian representatives in Movies. Now that we have this thing called SUBTITLES, more and more non English TV and Movies are at our disposal. I only took Spanish in school, not an Asian language available to me. Since becoming a BLINK and ARMY I have begun to learn Hangul but at my age, its not as easy as when I was younger. I've also always had mono/hooded lids so I saw someone with my eyes so that attracted me as well. Not quite sure why they assume BTS is the beauty standard... they WERENT and ARENT, except for Jin or V. If you notice, we fall in love with J-hope, RM and little Jimin who are not the Beauty Standard. None of the men you interviewed were unattractive so their perspective of their own value/worth is skewed by what they think we want or expect.

Let me add my grain of salt here. I started to learn Korean because I was impressed with the philosophy of life after having seen the movie spring summer autumn winter, and the series Black. For me this was a refreshing new way of looking at life and how to deal with life. While learning Korean (for the fun of learning a new language) I noticed how much
I like the Korean humour and autoderision. This is also when I discovered BTS. Next, I noticed how well spoken so many Koreans in interviews are, how they are so skilled in storytelling which is fascinating for my scientific facts-based brain.
After all this, I started noticing that, yes, the men are beautiful in their own way - but seen with my western eyes, which means I’m attracted to features that may not be seen as beautiful or fashionable in Korea itself. People tend to look at others through their own lens, with their own background… what is attractive to one may not be so to another.
In sum, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Thank you Korean culture and sensitivity, for helping me understand the world around me.

What's funny is that I had a thing for Korean men from when I was in high school back in 2004. I wasn't watching k-drama and my only kpop group I knew of was Shinhwa and I knew one song of theirs, lol. I grew up in a predominantly Asian area and I just found Asian men attractive in general. I still have a thing for Korean men 15 years later, lol.
I have traveled to Korea multiple times. It is true that there is an increase desire for Korean men. Probably about 10 years ago, you would see more white men with local ladies, but NOW I saw so many Korean guys with foreign girls on a night out.

It still stands to show that they are FOREIGN. Foreign women don’t always equate western.

Are you a non east asian? Honestly, I'm east asian and I find him the most average out of all the guys interviewed. Hardly can be described as handsome, charmingly straightforward and honest yes. We asians always say western and asian aesthetics are very different, esp the way western man view some asian women and deem them attractive. This is such a great topic! I find Korean men attractive but I don't fetishize them. There's a big difference. A couple of years ago I watched this movie in 08, 09 called Ninja assassin and I fell in love with the main character. He was one of the most beautiful men I've ever seen and I had no idea he was Korean. I see the beauty in all people and I've been like that since I was a child. That's why I don't discriminate, I like everybody lol but there are people that have this obsession with certain groups of people because of how they look and they become obsessed and that's where things get weird.
I don't know why they made a big deal out of it. The number of Koreaboo is only a minority, 99% of the foreigners in Korea are normal, only 1% are koreaboo. Yeah I don't understand why it's a big deal.

I have always been into Asian men and different men from many cultural backgrounds, however I will say this. Kpop introduced me to their music in the best way possible and with a combination of Kpop and Kdrama this introduced me to their culture more in terms of the food, the scenery, the language. I don’t hold everyone to a unreachable standard as like the one gentleman’s opinion stated everyone is different, however I do believe there are some core values that are standard in Korean Men regardless if they are an Idol/actor or not. They have a tradition that American men don’t necessarily have that I find very attractive. There is a courtship that I see in the Korean Culture that I truly appreciate. Again we would be naive to think that all Korean Men are perfect base off the Idol/Actor Fantasy.

I really like historical Asian costume dramas. Because of that, I got a BTS video in my u-tube feed. I started watching a lot of their videos/listening to their music. I learned more about Korea because of it. I branched out to more modern Asian dramas. I watch things from many Asian countries, not just Korea. I like the fantasy created of a more gentle caring relationship, more innocence depicted. The world now can be quite harsh and this provides an escape. Sometimes though, it can create problems when you think "I wish my husband/boyfriend was more like that!!" But like romance novels (which I have never read or been into) this is a story, not necessarily real life although some may posess these qualities. We are all individuals and there is good and bad in all people and cultures. As far as age reference, I am a 68 year old white great grandma from the US.
I'm not into kpop(been a blink but I grew out of it). I've been watching kdramas since I was in middle school(not so much anymore) Honesly at the time I didn't know where is Korea.
but one thing that I really like about Korea is their tv shows. Korean humor just clicks with me. As well the food seems to be tasty and the night life, transportation and fun activities to do. And the automatization and robotization of the city.
That's why I want to visit Korea. Not for the men. They're only a added bonus.

since i became a fan of kpop when i was 13, at first the attraction towards korean guys was mainly because of outer appearance und the showcasing in the media. now that i got older i still find korean men very attractive, but now it's mostly because i like men who are more on the traditional side of thinking and that's actually very rare in many western countries, especially where i live.

I didn't have strong feelings about Asian men in general. I loved martial arts movies...but one day, I was on Netflix casting about for something different to watch. I found "Romance Is A Bonus Book." What surprised me was how handsome, sensual and kind the male characters. It startled me because I had not thought that way before. Then I watched a bunch of other Kdramas. By "Startup," I was hooked. Sure not all Korean men are Hyun Bin or Dennis L, just like not all American men are Ryan Reynolds, Pitt etc...but I will say that Korean men have amazing physiques

2 random observations:
The guy in checked shirt sounds so much like text-to-soeech generator when he speaks English. I have massive respect for him learning English. My observation is more a comment on how important intonation is in a language. I am currently trying to learn Korean and pronunciation and intonation is impossible to learn from a book.
Second observation. I find it so interesting how many foreigners who learn english end up using the word "like" as a filler word. I remember in the early 2000s when it becwme popular and common, especially in teen girls, and there was a lot of criticism. In fact there is still criticism, especially when the word "like" is overused. It can be very grating when it is every other word. Anyway i just find it interesting that the word "like" seems to transcend cultures and languages when English is being spoken. I wonder if there is a neurological reason which is linked to how human brains work?
There is a big difference between having a 'fantasy' ( and a type resulting out of that because these men are just shown with traits we are sometimes missing in the west) and being fetishized! It is never nice to fetishize someone but you can have a fantasy, because korean men also have a fantasy about western woman. And the media on both sides is really trying to give those fantasies so you can't really blame people to like what the country tries to portrait.
I think some people fail to realize that people are people no matter where in the world you are.
It's weird that women need to be told this. Or that they think women need to be told this. I don't think most women of any country go around believing in true love prince charming fantasies. Romance is a genre in every culture. And people from all over the world travel to other countries seeking new experiences and opportunities that they've romanticized in their heads. Foreigners arrive everyday in the US to date Americans. I think it's only of concern or notable to Koreans because their country is so small and homogenous and has only recently been more visible to the rest of the world.
Yeah even about 15yrs ago most people only knew about China and japan in East Asia. In fact Korea is the heart of East Asia and spread many korean cultures and civilizations to China and Japan since the ancient times.
Literally women and mail order brides are brought to America and even Europe by white men, but no one says anything. And those women are more likely to be exploited because they are from third world countries.
Look how well kept and well dressed these guys are. That is why women are attracted to them. They simply take care ro look good at most times! That is what I find attractive about the Korean culture as a whole. The fact that they are all great looking helps!

I don’t think it’s a fetish but more so people really enjoying and respecting Korean culture, food, entertainment, music etc. My love for Asians and their culture food etc started at 7 years old. I was and still am a huge fan of martial arts and the martial arts movies. As I got older I grew a love for the food, languages, culture, history, music etc through watching those movies and shows. There’s a lot to love about parts of Asia and the people far beyond what the men and women look like. A lot of their values and way of living is something to take notes on. So I believe it’s bigger than just foreign woman fantasizing over the men.

I don't think there's as much stereotyping and fetishizing going on as Korean people think. Any country's entertainment is always influenced in some way by the realities of their culture so that makes foreigners curious as to how much of what they're seeing is true to life and how much is just tv, and when you're a foreigner, I think that's a really fair question. You can't know about what you can't see or experience in-person, so that leads you to ask questions to those who do know. But so many Koreans seem predisposed to thinking that all foreigners foolishly stereotype or fetishize them that they don't always listen when you try to ask questions and write you off as just being too immature and ignorant to tell fiction from reality. Like I'm over here trying to ask real cultural questions, but just bc I mentioned that it was a kdrama that I saw _______ in, they imediately stop hearing me and just start lecturing me on how tv isn't reality. It's really quite annoying bc they're upset about being wrongly judged but they don't realize how THEY are wrongly judging you when you aren't even wrongly judging them like they think you are. Idek at this point how many ridiculous comments I've received from Koreans suggesting that I'm incompetent, immature, unable to tell Asians apart, what I am and am not familiar with or some other negative thing simply bc they have stereotyped all foreigners in these ways. And the Korean UA-camrs are the worst about this. The level of condescension and treating us all like idiots is really mind-blowing. I've also been fetishized by Korean guys for my looks. Literally ALL of the things they complain that they think foreigners do to them (but that most foreigners aren't actually doing) they are doing those exact same things to foreigners. Even this video kind of proves that point. These guys all attribute foreign girls ideas of Korea and Korean men to kpop, kdramas, and BTS, not at all supposing that many of us have interests in and certain views of Korea for countless other reasons. Personally, It doesn't have much to do with the stories in K-dramas. Although I have never met a Korean man in real life, due to my location. I did however realise that I was very attracted to Korean men, after watching them speak in the dramas. I'm now retired but I worked for a physicians office and our doctors were all Asian. We had Korean, Vietnamese and One who was in hiding from North vietnam.They were some of the nicest people I ever met. They taught me alot about the culture of their respective countries. I've always thought Korean men were very handsome, but more important to me was a person's personality. Since I was always one who observed people I was never one to judge a book by its cover. When I got married, did I marry an Asian. No, my husband was native American, but if I had met one who made me feel like my husband did, then yeah I'd have married him.
The one thing I loved about korean men is, they are clean shaved! I dont know if all are, but I love men who are clean shaved ❤

I'm a woman who's half western, half asian, and it kinda makes me laugh that they go on about how westeners believe all korean men to be good looking, but they point at themselves as the blatat example of that not being true, because i'd actually say everyone in this video was hella good-looking! yes, with different, distinctive features that perhaps do not match their beauty standards, but incredibly well put together and clean-looking, with their hair on point, great skin, great sense of fashion, just overall giving off a neat, boyfriend vibe.
i've grown up in a western country and often visited my asian country of origin, not to mention i've spent almost a full year in korea, and i assure you, generally speaking, korean men ARE, on average, more good-looking than their western counterparts (and the rest of the world too). You could argue that it depends on your own taste and sense of beauty, too, which is fair enough, but the point stands that i haven't seen any men take care of their appearance as much as koreans, which immediately makes them look way better than everyone else. They simply put the effort in, so even what you would consider avarage looking guys look GREAT. And I mean that with an emphasis. They just don't realize it because when you are in Korea that amount of effort is a given, so they feel "normal" compared to their own country men, but as someone who's been to a fair amount of different countries all over the world, i assure you that korean men do stand out and their "avarage" stands quite higher than the rest of the world's "avarage".
I do confirm that they aren't all as great as in k-dramas, though haha! But then again, not all men are depicted as nice and big-hearted. There are horrible men in kdramas too, and i think that's true to real life. You can't expect Korea to be populated only by main leads. What about every other character in k-dramas? The asshole cheating boyfriend? The villain? The abusive father? The narcisistic brother? I'm pretty sure we also get that kind of rapresentation in k-dramas, even the most romantic, fluffy ones. I remember clearly whenever there was Asian character in a TV show or movie I liked them automatically and it goes 10 years back to things like Maze Runner or Tomorrow when the war began. Then I had *no idea* what k-pop was. Many people discovered it at age of 12 and are now over it meanwhile my 12 y.o. self didn't know such thing even existed. I just admired the culture itself. Now whenever I explain to people that I started listening to k-pop *because* of liking Asians, and *not* the other way around, they are so shocked 😄😅
I have to admit I definitely have a Korean guy fascination. 🤷🏾 And I blame Lee Min Ho, Hyun Bin, Park Seo Jun, Song Joong Ki, Kim Woo Bin, Gong Yoo & all the cute Korean men I’ve seen in street interviews and other K-content videos. 😂 They’re nice looking men (not all, but enough) it’s normal for women to find them attractive.

I think it's a good thing for people outside thr Asian culture to know that the men from other nations are also attractive. As long as they are not dating you for you Nationality and expect you to be like the guy's in KDramas and KPop it's alright. I'm a little annoyed that other's now know how attractive the Asian male is 😂😂😂😂

2:34 I don't agree about Korean guys being easygoing. Both Korean men and women are a lot more conservative and reserved compared to Europeans and North Americans. They really care about manners, physical image and other stuff in general, by the term easy going the only type of people that come to my mind is friendly ones who don't care or ridicule your flaws often, chill about everything and don't shove their standarts to your face.

The guy who was being interviewed at 4:55 has a similar mindset to me when it comes to dating. We intentionally try not to be extra nice and stuff because we want to be liked for ourselves more generally.

I think this happens to some extent, mostly amongst younger people. I feel like is the same as 20 years ago with the fantasy of Japan; its popularity was huge because of anime and pop culture and some just wanted to go and live that fantasy.
I agree, it still happens today and they also have their own term like koreaboos. Yet I forgot its name.
