- Easy Press-Fit bottom bracket removal and replacement without a bearing press. If you have a bike with one of these, you WILL eventually need to replace it, probably sooner than later. I was intimidated by the thought of trying to do it myself because I was afraid I'd damage my bike but it's pretty easy. I paid $85 for the BB, a wrench and the removal tool. Here are the links to what I needed:

Thanks for the link to the BB. My SRAM Dub just kicked the bucket yesterday.
Glad to help
This is easier than you may think! Do you have one of these? Quiet or noisy? Let me know
Thanks for this video. I'm going to need to remove mine and this vid provided some comfort on the process!
You're welcome! Glad it helped.
Nicely done, evry thing was done correctly and well presented.
Hi, I tried in the same way for removing the pressfit part, but even after giving a lot of hard bangs with the hammer, it's not moving. Please give your expert advice.
Love your videos, they're well presented, don't drag on and full of great ideas 👍. Shred the gnar and party on!
Thanks, Buddy! I hope to inform and maybe entertain a little along the way. I try to edit brutally because you have a lot of UA-cam to watch! Thanks for Watching :-)
@@TrailBreakerYour effort is evident and much appreciated. As is humor (something often lagging in other videos). I've watched several of your videos and will continue to do so, definitely turned me into a subscriber.
Downhill 4Life Thanks 👊 . Your encouragement means a lot 😁👍
just heard the dreaded creak today on a ride. Seems pretty easy since I also have a 18 fuel ex. Thanks for the knowledge.
Bound to happen :-(. Glad I could help. Thanks!
This seems to be a nice bb, stock was probably junk, but bb should be serviced, but the new is clearly a better design.
Did I miss the test-ride part where the bike was creak-free after the replacement? And then there's the issue of...for how long?
No you didn't miss it but the new BB lasted about a year and a half when it got noisy again. Tried to keep grit and degreaser out but they never last forever. PITA
How to service the bearing of the new BB?
I'll try to do it to mine once I get the right BB as I don't know which BB I need ,Scott specs only wrote Sram GPX PF 41×89,5 mm , there are so many online I don't knowIs it BB86 or BB92 to buy ? I could used help
Thanks
Perfect, (I'm actually picking up a fuel ex) I am impressed that the prongues still have something to catch even with that middle-spacer
👍🏻
Got them out, holy smokes was it a bear, used a heat gun vigorously and one side still didn't want to give. Over night soak in wd40 and full forces the next day got it
Emile Goguely WOW! Way to stick with it. Nothing worse than thinking you’re gonna have to take it in and have a pro “fix” your mess😁
Would the spacers provided go on after placing the dust cap?
Yes, I'm pretty sure. I didn't need any spacers but if you tighten the arm on and it's still got some side-to-side play, add them.
Brilliant video, did the BB last long? Thanks
About 3 years in pretty harsh conditions. No complaints. Eventually swapped to DUB crankset
@@TrailBreaker nice one, thanks for replying. 👍
Thanks for sharing..very nice information
Glad you like it! Thanks👊🏻
Very helpful, thanks!
You're welcome, Graeme!
i have ordered the same bb, may i know how long that tripeak bb you installed lasted?
Three years. I removed it once last year and cleaned and repacked the bearings from creek crossings. I just swapped it out for a DUB crank and BB NOT because of the BB. I was quite happy with it!
that new threaded BB looks like it's sticking way out on the drive side. Did you have to realign your rear derailleur?
No. I see what you mean but he cranks are still perfectly centered on the frame
I just tried to do mine exactly like this with the same parts
2015 trek fuel ex7
I couldnt get the 2 sides to close up on the bottom bracket without a lot of torque. So much that o stripped the bb. Had a hard time getting it off. 60$ out and bikes taken apart
Oh crap! What are you doing?
Will this work with Race Face Evolve SS Crankset 170mm NW32T Black 9/10/11 crankset?
There is a hole in the end of that bb tool you're using to tighten, correct? Slip the hook of your hanging scale in there and pull it until it shows a force that is 30N-m according to some simple math using the distance to center. You can get an exact torque this way. Also, I saw red loctite residue during removal. You should have used loctite 609, which is green.
Justin Bohner Good to know! Thanks! I just used the actual torque wrench on something else and tried to repeat the relative force. Is green more or less lock than blue? I don’t have that
@@TrailBreaker 609 is designed for cylindrical fitment. The blue is usually threadlocker.
Justin Bohner Cool! Thanks. Never knew👍
Is the dub spindle fits that bb
I would really like to find a non press fit replacement for my creaking BB92. I have a race face next R crank with a 30mm crank shaft ...not sure what crank set and diameter is on your ride? ...hoping tri peak has one that will work for me ...
Did it work? Nice ideabut steel? Too heavy. Is therre an alternative? Al alloy?
Bb92 for deore m6100 crankset fit?
Sram cranks are a gift from the devil. Not only does the GXP standard destroy one bearing faster than the other, it also has some known tolerance issues which results in some very sloppy fitting.
Alex Paulsen Yep
I’ve got this job to do, I’d love to know how this bb performed? Is it still going strong?
Yes. 100%
Good Video
what Casio Watch is that ?
Thanks! I don't remember. It's a $15 knock-off that lasted about 2 years. I'm pretty rough on watches😀
What SRAM crankset are you using? Also what is the spindle length and width?
It's the Sram Descendent crank, 175 mm cranks and I think the width is 92 mm (BB92)
@@TrailBreaker spindle length must be 92mm...width is diameter of spindle? 24 29 or 30mm? Doesn't look 34mm
You are looking great. 👍😀
21 1 21 Thanks!?
What is the size of you bb inner diameter? Is it 29 or 30mm?
GXP has 24mm drive side and 22mm non drive side spindle.
Good info! How has you experience been with it since then?
Thomas Hemming Larsen Zero issues! Design seems solid👊🏻👍🏻
@@TrailBreaker Nice. Thank you!
I'm looking to replace dub pressfit 92 on bnbike and DIY removal and install came to memory, so started looking at people's ideas and eventually came here. I've got same bike ha ha ha
Correction:no I don't, mine is alloy ex7
I did a double take too. I have the EX 5 same frame as yours.
Cool! Hope it helped👊
2 hours later, after splitting a curtain rod offcut to make this tool, all done.
Are the spindles 24mm thick
I think it's 22 mm on the drive side
Lol 😂. That sounds like my bike 😳
Sorry! 😀
Mine bearing won’t come out. Stuck
I had the same problem trying to replace my Giant road bike press fit bottom bracket. I checked online here in the UK and found cheap bottom bracket removal kits, that fit every size of bottom brackets without using impact force. My kit is branded Lixada, but they are all the same. It is designed to remove the bottom bracket, and install. I replaced mine a few days ago. Look at this video of how it works - ua-cam.com/video/bBLMemDW13s/v-deo.html&ab_channel=FirstComponents
Is that a cf frame?
ron talampas Yep. Except for the chain stay.
u r awesome my friend 👍🏼
Thank you! Cheers!👊
You should try oval chain ring.
I have an Absolute Black on my Motobecane and love it! Feels like I have one more granny gear :-) Is there one that will fit this crankset?
@@TrailBreaker yes they make it for all cranks I know off, but to sure if they got vintage cranks but all the common standards they have, Sram, Shimano, four bolt, direct mount, for all of the brands.
Cool! I didn't know. Thanks
@@TrailBreaker if you got more questions feel free to ask, I am kind of a bicycle encyclopedia, I research so much.
Having difficulty finding a crankset that’s compatible with tripeak
ron talampas I think the SRAM cranks are all the same fro MTB and are, I believe, 24 mm on the drive side. The BB in the description fit perfectly
Could you place a link for Tripeak bb86/92bra (shimano)?
@@rontalampas5329 check out wheels mfg, they should have one you're looking for
30 NM ~ 22 Ft/lbs, so a good snug is about right,
Chuck Taylor Yeah, fairly snug. I just tightened til play was gone and still spun freely. 😁
"30nm to this snug ergghh!" So thats is 30nm, its easy.. erghh is 30nm guys
You're welcome 😀
@@TrailBreaker thanks uncle!
should have added a sprocket protector .
Chuck Taylor I’ve never bashed this bike but I probably should look into one for my enduroish Kona Process 👊
