Recording With The World's Best Drummers | Vlog #39

  • Jojo Mayer and Mark Guiliana are two of my favorite musicians in the world, that just happen to be drummers.
    The original idea for this recording session, after we played a double-drums gig in NYC, was to record the same way. Scheduling unfortunately didn't permit that to be a reality, so we had each drummer separately for a single day each.
    The results were some of the most fun I've ever had making music, and you can check out the album in the links below.

    Ya gotta love Jojo's stick drop and then effortless recovery 12:34 - 12:52 I love how smoothly and calmly he sits there with his left hand and feet holding it together while he strategizes his next move, executes it and ultimately re-enters seamlessly like a fucking boss!!

    So sad that this movie didn't actually get made, JoJo and Giuliana are two of my fav drummers. New to knowing you as an artist but I'm gonna have to pick up this album. Also just saw you in Chicago at Drum Fantasy Camp 2019, was totally in shock that you were there, just found out about you from a That Pedal Show name drop a few weeks ago and then all the sudden there you are in front of me on stage. How was it getting to play with Steve Smith and Dennis Chambers!?! You looked like you were having a blast!

    One of my personal favorite albums of the last decade. Thank you for sharing. Given the edit-heavy approach to defining tracks, is it likely we'll ever hear more from these sessions, like alternate versions of tunes, remixes or "b-sides", if you will? And do you have anything with Tim Miller coming up? It's time we hear something new from him!

    • @robinhood1072
      @robinhood1072 7 років тому +6

      He is nasty but.. Im sure he will grow into his own style and tone more for right now he is REALLY blatantly biting off of Allan Holdsworth. Its hard man. Its just like learning Jaco stuff. Its hard not to sound like these guys after you learn or even listen to some of their music.. But Tim, at least on this cut, sounds EXACTLY like what Holdsworth would do phrasing and tone.. VERY hard to do.. he does it well but.. its HOLDSWORTH... Sorry ... Im definitely not a hater.

    • @zeruchofficial

    • @nameloss
      @nameloss 7 років тому

      Robin Hood i agree that he's very holdsworth-esque on parallel worlds, but i really like what he's doing regardless. his runs aren't quite holdsworth to me either? a little less dense, but i say that only as a listener. don't play guitar aha
