    Operate in your "comfort zone" as you warm up. Don't stress our your hands and muscles. Great advice. If you play beyond what your hands will allow, you will stress them out. It usually takes time to warm up (15-20 min) before you can play fast, clear, and precise. Don't rush it!!

    Congrats on the gig with Benny! Been watching your videos for a long time, your philosophy regarding music has been a very important guide for me in my own journey, and Benny is one of my biggest drumming idols, I really hope I get to see some video of you two playing together!

    I've been following you for almost 2 yrs now and it's funny that I also lost my way in the last months. I lost a bit motivation and structure due to other stuff going on in my life. Funny that today I came back to my practice routine and I am trying to get it back and then you put out this video. 😁 Awesome!!
    Sometimes when one has the least time to do stuff is when one does the most.

    Always wanted to know the advantages of singing what your playing. I know a lot of piano players do it but have noticed that you also do it a lot. Was hoping someone would bring it up before . Thanks again for sharing your wealth of knowledge . Here’s hoping this is the true meaning of the interweb. Peace

    I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on practicing away from your instrument. Recently I've had a hand injury that put the brakes on my 8 hour-a-day practice routine so I've been trying to fill my time with other productive things; ear training at the piano, clapping polyrhythms etc. Any thoughts on things to work on in this situation? Cheers!

    As always great content! What do you think about practicing one thing for a really long time, e.g. having 5 hours for 2 exercises and practicing them with a metronome going 10 up 5 down?

    For the next Q&A : What happens to your fodera ? Do you prefer this one ? Have you been endorsed ? Could you explain (if possible of course) what does is mean to be endorsed, what are the obligations ? Do you have to gig with that bass ?
    Thank you.

    dear Janek, I have a good idea for your book: finding the purpose of YOUR music, with the help of bass - not about the bass. you work a lot with other musicians and learn parts that you did not create, somewhere you must have an intangible force that makes you want to pursue music with such fervor. I played standard 4 string bass, recently switched to CGDA 5ths tuned bass and found that i rekindled by passion fo bass. I never had a practice regime, instead I think of playing bass mentally and since I never learnt by sight reading, I just rehashed my brain to think in 5ths rather that 4ths when moving up strings. the question to ponder is - how to find your own spirit in music? and realise that it is totally unique and yet is inspired by past music, and dealing with its evolution and figuring out what that spirit is not? peace.

    Is that a D-tuner on the 5th string there Janek? That bass has a huge range! Your 4 octaves is nearly comparable to my 7 string guitar!

    Hey Janek! How do you find out which goals to reach, if it's not an upcoming gig or something like this? And how do you manage to practice and follow your way if you're busy with gigs? For me it's hard to focus on my target and the way i like to go if i have to play a lot of gigs in a short time.
    And another question: as a saxophone player, am i able to use your books too? There are treble clefs, right?
    Thanks and greetings from Germany! (we met at the Zig Zag club in Berlin this summer, you guys were on fire this night! I really enjoyed it ;) )

    Losing way is the perfect description! Currently, I’m in no bands and have no gigs, so bass is just sitting in a gigbag. Having no internal motivation is the problem.

      Jon Hallam I have a full time job, music isn’t a matter of money and survival, so I simply drink quite heavily.
      You gigging for living?

    • @alexandrecolas-jeffery722
      @alexandrecolas-jeffery722 5 років тому +1

      Something I learnt in school that is so infinitely valuable. External motivation will get you off your ass much more consistently. What can you do with that? Become accountable to someone else (a friend, online fans with a vlog) so you HAVE to deliver something everyday, and put that in line with your personal goal. That's why, say, music school makes you advance so much, but you can hack the process and pull it to your advantage.
      Cheers!

    Hey Janek I'm super down to grab the books however I can't get all one time.
    Can you please suggest what book I should grab first? I'm an intermediate player ( I know that doesn't really translate over social media and a sentence).
    Any suggestions would be really helpful thanks!

    Hi,Janek.
    Can you please explain, does all of your books have guitar tab/treble clef notation? I know All the good stuff has, is it the same for the rest of your books?
    Thanks.

    • @janekgwizdala
      @janekgwizdala  5 років тому

      All the better stuff and Chordal harmony both have treble clef, and for the "Ultimate Chop Builder" series there are dedicated guitar versions that are treble clef only and TAB

    Can you play in a band in different genres? For example, can you play in just a rock band, or a salsa band, or funk According to Quincy Jones, a musician must be able to play in different styles.

    • @janekgwizdala
      @janekgwizdala  5 років тому +2

      Yes I can. But I don't agree that every musician needs to be able to play all styles in order to consider themselves a complete musician. There are incredible players that have spent their entire careers in just one band playing the same style. And then there are studio musicians who have done the complete opposite. Both ends of the spectrum produce incredible music and musicians.
