I want to point out that whilhelmena voted down the emergency despite already being at war with you. Weird play, but respect. Also, why is it impressive to fight the world with 12 science? Hamurabi does it all the time.
I usually don’t catch the streams so I love when you break them into episodes. Only you could have pulled this game back from the brink. I would have just restarted the second I saw Elenor that close hahaha
2:48 At first I thought that emergency declaration meant "oh man he's dead" but then realized that the Japan bonus in coastal tiles plus your very experienced units due to the first war means you have a fighting chance.
To me the most obvious way to extend the relevance of the ranged unit tree into post-modernity is to merge it with the anti-air support unit. You could have the machine gun upgrade into something like an 88 FLAK cannon which has a ranged attack and an air-defense value and have that unit upgrade into some sort of mobile rocket unit. It'd be hitting two birds with one stone as the current anti-air support unit is severely underpowered if you're actually facing air threats, whereas even machine guns feel pretty pointless by the time you get them compared to the other modern units, and those other units can typically be upgraded two more times.
I had a situation where all the surrounding civs declared war on me but I was very lucky with my starting position i had a mountain range either side of me with only 1 tile entry so I was able to hold off three armies with one archer and a man at arms.
I came to your chat during the live-stream of this let's play. I was making fun of having like 20 tourism at turn 200 and I got timed-out in the chat and didn't really know why. Now I know why. 3:58
@@louiszeugin2704 They should definitely change it so that you can kill great generals/admirals. I'm okay with other great peopel being unkillable but it doesn't make sense for the military focused ones
If you had spawned next to anyone other then Eleanor, odds are you would have been able to hold those cities. She can be a massive pain with her loyalty nonsense.
What a glorious war. Every few Civ games I find myself stuck in a seemingly endless battle, and there really is nothing more rewarding than finally coming out on top!
Saw part of this livestream but missed the start (I know you can rewind). Wondered why things were going so bad for you. Makes a lot of sense now! For late game ranged units why not have some kind of laser shooting guy/robot that unlocks at lasers and is anti-air.
I'd say you'd be surprised, but you probably know the effectiveness of compounding Crossbowmen in cities and encampments along a coast backed by a strong privateer force. Upgrade a few to field cannons, and it's enough to repel early tanks and even a Giant Death Robot, mainly because the CPU is stupid and doesn't think to use the siege cannon against my city walls. Managed to survive long enough to get a 30 point Diplomatic Victory (20's too easy) as Mansa Musa and Amanitore's Exoplanet expeditions were over halfway complete.
Amazing Amazing I would have loved to see the barbarians cause chaos... but if you manage to settle another continent then you'll automatically will win the game
What’s the mod that tells you what you get from each policy? Being able to see how much I’m actually getting from adjacency bonus policies would be goated
The name is Extended policy card But I recommend also Detailled map tack. Thats mod is so important that I finally could win in Deity with it, in approximatively 300 turns
I absolutely love your vids and they've made me a much better civ player but can you please number your episodes in a series again? I have a hard time catching up due to either missing something or thinking I missed something when I didn't due to episodes not having numbers.
Unfortunately the UA-cam recommendation algorithm really doesn't like numbered episodes. UA-cam much prefers it when content creators give each episode a bespoke title, even though it does sometimes make it more difficult to follow along a series.
I'd like to hear more thoughts on monuments vs. getting started on districts like harbor or commercial hub. I tend to maybe overplay my commercial game and it inevitably ends in a diplomatic victory around turn 250 almost regardless of which civ I pick.
It’s quite surprising that you only have 12 science by turn 110. Normally in a science game you should have already started spamming out campuses and universities
That scout faced the titans, and offered up his heart
SASAGEYOOOO
If only you had the balls to do the same 😔

I'm pretty sure that you know why thats not a good comparison :D
@@denisboer332 ...I have no idea what you're talking about. How is strange to have jet bombers attacking ancient walls?
Actually that is pretty normal. I'm pretty sure that a jet bomber attacked a city with city walls still standing in some conflict since ww2 irl :P :D
@@denisboer332 sure, but in Civ that usually only happens when you save the weakest player for last in a domination game.
Oh yeah, Hamirabi
The dude who likes to attack swordsmen and archer with machine guns, battleships and jet plane

Big-brain there. I don't think I've ever played a game where the AI effectively used air units. If they come at me late, it is always with GDRs.
True. I never used once those anti air units
That Ternate name change is actually hilarious because Jyväskylä is jokingly known as the city of rogues, thieves and traitors in Finland.
That was a spicy cliffhanger last time, you whiskey mcpotatoface
Don't worry guys, Steiner's attack will bring this all under control.
I am sad because I LOVE the samurai katana unsheathe sound whenever I click on them… I click on them all the time just to enjoy the sound
Yep, me too. Need a UU sound tier-list.
“Lemme tell you the thing about samurai: I’m not gonna build them because they’re fucking useless.” *gets a samurai

"Timishoara" is the name of an real city from Romania. Cheers to the one who donated and greetings to all the romanian viewers!
Timișoara
This has been one of my favorite campaigns. Your cap was losing loyalty. Now you are moving to settling the new world! Inspiring!
This video could also be called "Hello there the consequences of my actions"
potato is the GOAT i would've restarted 100 turns ago lol
My pitch for an upgrade to the machine gun: Rail Gun

Is there a sniper unit mod? Could be half scout/half range, high visibility and able to take out great generals.
There's the spec ops, they can target civilian or support unit but I don't think they can shoot a great general sadly

Probably the best cliffhanger in all of Potato's videos.
Many dispute the actual start of the Modern Era, but you know it was when Japan discovered World War.
Really impressive and self torture in this series. Would have given up as from the terrible start.
Title made me laugh so hard, if anyone can survive its the civ god himself!
The knife noise is the sound of the samurai drawing their katana.
Eleanor of Aquitane: "So you have chosen... death."
Nice naming that Archer after "White Death"
Tsar Peter would've been pretty good for this game. With his benefits from trading with people who are technologically ahead
You should ask a finn how to spell Jyväskylä or Simo Häyhä. :D
"The world basically hates me now"
Yeah. "Now."
Eleanor at the border, declared war by everyone, 12 science. Me: flips the table in anger.
PotatoMcWhiskey: “hold my beer”.

There's a mod called "Improved Map Tacks" on the steam workshop :D

Why did they all join the emergency and then make peace shortly after ?
Imagine a history of long war from ancient era to almost industrial era
which mod shows adjacency for map pins?
