That moment when you realize J.J.s transition noise is from earthbound
Cop on to your
Wut is earthbound
Republic Of Naun Earthbound is a highly praised, extremely rare RPG game for the Super Nintendo
riskydigits TA I am very pleased with your explanation...
:]
you can often see it on his shelf in the background (though not in this video since he's in a different room)
I would send you stuff but I'm from Vancouver.
;(
Send him stuff anyway
Send him you
@@ookeybookey7955 lol id send him me too if it was cheaper posting from where I am 😂🤷🤔 I'm in hawaii and anything international is quite exspensive. I wanted to another creator I really like, in the UK, a parcel too, but it was over $50 and that was for something determined by size and more so on weight. But the size was a decent size, just needed to be more intent on weight I think? Which is interesting cause sometimes its the opposite of just fitting what you can in a certain size I feel. But then again, Idk if it's the same price from Hawaii to Canada or maybe just a little cheaper as it's in North America, as opposed to over the pond lol 🤷
As a brit just want to say the postcards are half satire half grim realism but the hartlepool monkey thing is super real phenomenon. when the ice cream van comes round they ask if you want "monkey blood" instead of sauce.
that is the funniest true story i've ever heard. i heard it years ago but thought it was fake , i couldn't imagine watching British men centuries ago arresting a monkey thinking it was a frenchmen . that is so damn hilarious.
That's another interesting thing as an American the Icecream 'truck' would never have any sort of sauce available
that story is so amazing, im gonna tell it to everyone, espescially if i meet a french person HAHA
The person behind the monkey mascot also ran for Mayor of Hartlepool in 2001- and apparently he did a very good job.
I always thought Wimpy was a South African brand. But as it turns out, it was actually started in 1934 in Bloomington, Indiana. Then it was franchised in the UK, France and South Africa. Since 2007 the international HQ of Wimpy has been in Johannesburg, South Africa
I live in the states now and found this out today.
Ek is oppad vir n’ lucky packet.
Although my life feels like a lieeeeeeee 😭
Maak julle noj ooit Lucky Packets?
Warms my heart to see JJ surrounded by, and speaking of, many things Colorado.
Blue states:(
@@LemurJackson 🗿
Yeah
Lol those British postcards were jokes 😂
I was cracking up at the Thames one.
Only just though. They were scarily accurate.
As a New Orleanian, I can say that’s a pretty legit package. The glass beads and Zulu coconut are really special indeed.
That Zulu coconut is kinda a big deal if its real I was taken a back
"I feel like a real cool dude wearing it" 😂😂 I love you man, keep it up
What is it like being paid by the queen to pretend Canada exists
I didn’t know you survived being shot by Gavrilo Princip
Lol
I get oddly emotional about these kinds of videos because I love seeing these items shared around the world and how much care you take in opening them. Helps me feel connected to a community. Thank you JJ!!
That's really wholesome to hear. I oddly too! Its nice cause even though on another video, he mightve skimmed through it quickly; it's cause of the time for the video, but I could also tell that it wasn't meant to offend but rather to just show the audience and explain without going too much on a detour.
But it's nice cause JJ also explained that in the ending saying that he will off camera take more time to go through details of the items off camera and that was nice to hear, not that I didn't believe it but I'd feel that some might misinterpret his hastened motions for being that.
As being someone who pays attention to details, weirdly... I could tell he was sincere the entire time 😇❤️
About the "innit" thing, I'm an Arab who usually speaks English with a general American accent, but I use the word "innit". I don't even know how it got into my lexicon, maybe because my parents formerly lived in Britain and I inherited some of their speech patterns, since they usually speak in a distinctly Arabic fashion, but with some influence from the RP pronunciation of English. I know I'm going off track with this, but my parents also lived in Germany and spoke German between one another when I was younger until I started learning German, at which point they gave up and started speaking German with me when they didn't want anyone else to understand what we were saying. I still speak German with them, since my other siblings don't understand German.
Oh, also, Marie Laveau seemed familiar, mainly because she was. My dad is a big fan of the country singer Bobby Bare, who made a song about her.
Also if any Minnesotans find his passport it would be funny if you mail it to him
Luis Condori harvey I think I actually left it on the airplane.
J.J. McCullough lol
@@thesandwichslayer9948 i found 50 aud in costco in melbourne and it was the day my parents opened their card so it was basically a free memebership
@@Brick-Life don't see how that's related, but that's still super cool.
The Costco gods smiled upon you
@@JJMcCullough Epson is not a scandinavian name, at all, just so you know :PpPpP
Hey jj. Just wanted to say that you taught me a lot about Canada and some other countries. So now my friends are impressed and jealous
As a Texan, only sending the flag, no note, just a name, is honestly one of the most Texan things that guy could've done haha
Fun video and a geekishly informative website on all things Canadian! Your efforts are much appreciated!!
I have a friend from Maryland. The Old Bay thing is 1000% true.
Being from Carroll County Maryland it's crazy to see someone look through the visitors guide and see things for the first time from our little towns like sykesville and eldersburg. It's nice to see these places through the eyes of someone who hasn't there. We see these things everyday and take them for granted I think
Fun fact: Wimpy was found in Bloomington, Indiana, United States in 1934 but the headquarters is in Johannesburg, South Africa.
12:15 I recognize that bag. Sprouts is the whole foods competitor in the west coast and the southern u.s., a.k.a the sun belt
British place names are stupid and the spelling is often seemingly deliberately misleading.
The "W" in Norwich is silent, so it's Norrich (and the "O" is as in "not"). We seem to be fans of silent Ws, cf. Warwick ("Wor-ick"), Smethwick ("Smeth-ick"), and Woolwich ("Wool-itch"), but we're very inconsistent, because we pronounce the Ws in other place names, such as Nantwich and Prestwich. It's not just Ws we don't bother to pronounce: Lincoln ("Lin-con"), Leicester ("Less-ter"), Worcester ("Woos-ter" giving us "Woos-ter-sher" sauce - but with a North American accent, the OOs and Rs in that spelling might throw it out, so maybe "Wuss-tu" ("tu" as is "tuppence") and "Wuss-tu-shu" ("shu" as in "shut") because we don't like Rs either). Some places we just cannot agree upon: Is Shrewsbury pronounced "Shrews-bry" or "Shrows-bry?" Is Alcester "All-ses-ter" (as in Cirencester ("Siren-ses-ter") or "All-ster" like Leicester? And we cant decide if there is a silent "E" in Evesham, giving rise to the alternatives of "Eve-sham" and "Eve-a-sham")
We do it with surnames, too, e.g. Featherstonewaugh is pronounced "Fan-shaw", and Cockburn is not pronounced like the result of an over indulgence in self love, or some form of infection, but rather "Co-burn".
Southend, to be pronounced authentically in the accent of the locals is "Saafend" with the "A" as in "safron" but longer.
The etemology of "innit" is that it is essentially a contraction of isn't and it, which has become a widely used filler word at the end of sentences, innit - particularly amongst da yoof, innit.
The Thames is pronounced the "Tems". I don't know how the spelling and the pronunciation are linked.
Hartlepool is ridiculous, because most people would say it as you said it, but it's Hart-lee-pool with the stress on Hart.
We also have some ridiculously named places, e.g. Ashby-de-la-Zouch ("Ash-be-duh-luh-zoosh").
I actually live in Worcester, MA.
They call it Woostah here. Some OG Massies call it Wisstah.
I’ve been into british culture for long enough that I’ve gotten used to everything apart from welsh names
Needed this comment, if anyone is looking round the north Keighley is pronounced "Keith lee" Scarborough is pronounced "scar bruh" harrogate is pronounced "harrugut" and Bradford is pronounced "bradfud".
Edit: shire is always pronounced shuh, unless it is on its own, in which case it is pronounced "shaiah"
Whey hey big up the midlands
So it's Woostershuh?
I'd hate to be American Keighley Bradford studying abroad in England.
My day just got 100x better
I had no idea this was so old. This video moved me to tears. You have some truly lovely fans, JJ.
We have Wimpy's in and around Toronto. There's fewer locations than when I was a kid but some are still around.
Omg I love unsinkable Molly Brown! She's the chubby lady from the movie Titanic that helps Jack fit in with the rich people and lends him her son's suit 😄
Henrique Pimenta Gomes ohhh... played by Kathy Bates!
yeees
Although salt water taffy is American, it is not from Colorado. The story goes that a big storm went through an East Coast beach town (people from Atlantic City NJ say it was there) and flooded a local candy shop. The candy maker was forced to throw out an entire batch of taffy. Some kids saw him doing this and asked if they could have the taffy instead. When asked what the flavor was, the candy maker replied that it was salt water flavored. The kids loved it and the candy maker realized that a bit of sea salt really brought the flavors out. An American classic was born.
I was delighted to watch you open the Colorado box.
Next Saturday’s my birthday and if you did another world leaders episode that would be the best 🙌🏿🙌🏿🙌🏿
Beck Hassen Happy birthday in advance
oh, I didn't expect to find you hear. Love your videos btw
This was a fun video to watch! Very interesting.
😀
HE SAID “EH”
I thought you had received some package from the country of Georgia 😂
your videos are the highlight of my Saturday 😄
Rooibos tea is important in South Africa mostly beacuse it can only be grown in South Africa and is exported a lot around the world
Thirty minutes of unboxing, that’s a handful (a good one too)
I really loved everything about that Colorado box. I hope you read the papers.
I'm American and I love Only Fools and Horses. If you haven't seen it you should probably check it out. Del Boy played by David Jason is also the voice of Danger Mouse. Trigger is one of Del Boy's friends who is not very bright. He is a street sweeper and is proud that he has had the same broom for many years. Only changing the head and handle several times.
"the jackalope isn't real"
it actually is, it's caused by a specific type of cancer that causes growths on the heads of rabbits, pioneers assumed they were just horns that were growing on rabbits
I love the Celestial Lemon tea. It’s actually a deep red, oddly enough, but it takes on a very bold and delicious flavor. Raspberry is also very good too. I would definitely get some more!
Stellar Mapping I live in boulder and if you are ever there you should do a tour it’s awesome
I kept remembering how small of your apartment is. What a great haul.
Nice Video J.J!! Keep up the good work!!
the tax disc holder is a car thing, basically in the UK you gotta show proof that your vehicle is taxed at all times, so you stick a tax disc holder to your windshield with the little paper disc that's your proof of tax inside, facing outwards so that it can be seen.
that is if it hasn't changed in the last 20 years.
Tax discs actually stopped being made here in October 2014. I remember them fondly, as weird as that is to say!
@@MisterM2402 yeah i've not been in many cars over the last decade or so lol
Bummer, no more fan mail! I would love to see you bring it back!!
Innit is also used in Liverpool :)
Whimpy burgers aren’t really popular in the UK but is a very big thing in South Africa
Me: lives in Colorado
*sees Hammond wrapper*
*realizes it's not ribbon candy*
8:15 I had a good amount of BEANO comics from my grandparents. God, brings back memories.
Interestingly in England the bank notes are all printed by the bank of England, but outside of England in other UK nations different bank notes are printed by different private banks.
It's funny, Jesus reminded the citizens of Roman-occupied Judea that Caesar put his face on the money and you should remember to pay him some tax for the privilege of having useful currency.. something repeated across most currency ever made anywhere.
But they didn't have private mints or banks back then. I don't think there's any equivalent lesson to be noted about bank notes with otters on them. They're just cute
“Oh, look, we have a nice can of air.” I’m going to get my friend a nice can of air.
I am a fan of the Denver Broncos and it makes me very happy to see JJ in a Broncos Jersey lol
Typically Old Bay is used on seafood, but it is also great on french fries.
It was a thrill to see our package get opened. Maybe you'll get something from Norway some time.
This is good and all but can you do Artillery Only?
this isnt ISP ?
ISP
Wha?
@@JJMcCullough its an inside joke for ISP fans
Stop it... Get some help.
Was at a few places in London last week
Oh wow, the first box is Table Mountain! Brilliant!
I love that you did nearly the entire video in a Broncos jersey 🤗
omg jj said 'aye'
17:53 I've had the asparagus juice recently. When my wife and I were in the quarantine hotel in February the hotel provided meals (until we asked them to stop). I did a lot of #torentries photo essays on my facebook over that period. You can get a lot of great Taiwan snacks at Kuo Hua Trading Co Ltd in Richmond BC, not too far from JJ's home.
I like seeing him unbox the uk stuff, such as southend and him mispronouncing the river themes.
What a wonderful international audience you have, sending you gifts from South Africa, the UK, The USA, Probably the USA, The USA, Taiwan, The USA, The USA, and the USA.
You can't forget the US of A
This was so nice
I can't stop laughing at your 2 otters line.
As someone who lives in Maryland, I knew there would be Old Bay in that box. Lol.
The Jackalope Is So Cute! 😍
Yes! New vid!
Ironically, that 'Old Bay' seasoning from Maryland reminds me of Alabama. Our family would vacation on the Gulf and we'd use that seasoning whenever we cook up locally caught shrimp. It brings back memories.
You put the baby Jesus in a cake.
Jimmy Sanchez yes king cake,
Maryland is the best state. Glad you got a box from us.
You should do more videos on the wonders of vexillology!
Jack-o-lope waa from America's funniest home videos
Please make one more currency collection video
“Zack bees” 😂 lol
I too loled at that
JJ, please check out the two best Australian cartoonists David Rowe and David Pope. The Davids have definitely not disappointed with the recent goings on in Canberra. Fortunately, this current coup has been a five day saga (as opposed to the usual night of the long knives) so there is a lot of good artwork to appreciate
I saw jackalopes in scooby doo or something when I was like 8 and only today did I learn they aren’t real, I feel stupid.
The proposition ads are actually super Colorado. Colorado is probably the U.S.'s most proposition-friendly state, and a significant part of Coloradan politics revolves around their proposition system. That includes the Colorado Taxpayer Bill of Rights - a constitutional amendment passed by the public that forms the basis of Colorado's municipal tax policy. It's actually super interesting (and at times problematic) just how much of Colorado's legislation relies on this system and culture of direct democracy.
1. Have you ever been to california? Their proposition rate is through the roof.
2. Wasnt TABOR reversed at some point?
13:12 I've seen Boulder brand chips right here in Vancouver!
Also from Nova Scotia, Canada here.
There are several Wimpy Burgers in Toronto. Big, big burgers - very filling
The Boulder Canyon chips are AMAZING.
Hey JJ! I just got out of hospital and wanted to ask if you would update any of the world leaders videos (even with a little announcement or segment) if the cabinet happened to change. For example, this week Australia had a leadership spill. Fun stuff. Now Scott Morrison is our Prime Minister. Anyways, keep it up! I'll always love your content.
Through the entire UK part I was chanting " It's heart lee pool not hartle pool!"
I live in Carroll County!!!! Can confirm there's not much more but that's hilarious you got mail from here, Eldersburg/Sykesville isn't far away at all XD There is a really nice arcade on the other side of the county with some rare games and some historic sites, but that's about all that you can't find somewhere else XD
16:23 my uncle drove over that bridge 10 minutes before it collapsed. He also said that while he was driving over it, he wondered what would happen if it collapsed.😮
JJ, I tried to find you on FB to tell you, but Australia just rolled another Prime Minister. We now haven't had a full term PM since before the iPhone, over ten years ago.
It isn't until I hear foreign people say them that I realise how odd a lot of British places are spelt compared to their pronunciations. But then again, people in Britain can only pronounce place names in their own county - English people can't say Welsh, Scottish or Northern Irish place names, and they can't say our or eachother's place names, so it's all good
I'm late but it doesn't matter I still get to watch J.J.!!
My mom is candian and likes ur channel it gives her nostalgia
I love you J. J.
Jj I was thinking just an hour ago "I do wonder if JJ is going to have a video this weekend" lol
7:02 - another occasion for Quebec parliament to denounce you ;)
"Nut roll" sounds like a good insult xD
Respect my college’s county! I go to college in Carroll County!
And the Orioles had a great winning season this year!
I live in northern Iowa about 20 minutes away from the Minnesota border and yeah we all call it southern Canada
Seeing Zaxby's is great
I would send you stuff but being from Oregon pretty much everything more generic I can think of that I associate with my state (tartan flannel shirts, beanies, sports memorabilia featuring a cartoon beaver, stuff pertaining to lumberjacks and Paul Bunyan, etc) is also stuff that I would think is also common in British Columbia or Canada more broadly. I guess I could send you a Dutch Bros cup if they haven’t already established themselves up there.
I was surprised you didn't mention the issue going on between Taiwan and China seeing as it has been ramping up in importance recently
I think the women's beans project deserves a video JJ my friend.
Oh wow, that's the same town I live in in MD, Eldersburg/Sykesville! Man, that's a coincidence.....if you're from within the boundary of the town of Sykesville, you can safely say you're from Sykesville. Anywhere outside of that, you're free to pick one.
The jackalope reminded me of something. Have you ever read the Bloom County cartoon strip from the 80s/90s? A recurring theme was a mythical creature called a Bassalope: part Basset hound, part antelope (I presume).
Never knew how much the Oilers colours were like the Broncos.
8:27 we had highlights a few years back? Maybe it's just an Ontario thing
That tiny plastic baby is a catholic tradition in some places, I thought it was an exclusively mexican tradition. But its a baby meant to represent baby jesus which is placed in King cake. Whoever gets the baby jesus in their portion is supposed to do something which I think varies by region, bring food at the next get together, bring the baby to church, etc
We have Wimpy's Diner in Ontario (maybe other provinces) but I've never heard of these burgers
