    Nice video,its very useful, by the way, im confused why I cant select private option on appstoreconnect distribution option, can you tell the reason why? Currently, I was assuming, its because of my archive build I choose App store connect as distribution option instead of Enterprise, because I can't build if I choose Enterprise, it crash my xcode, do you know the reason for this crash as well? Thanks

    So in Order for apple dep to work properly, you will
    Need a desperate MDM for the devices, correct? Or is the apple dep program the acting MDM? Thanks

    • @5MinuteMobility
      @5MinuteMobility  4 роки тому +1

      No DEP/ABM is not an MDM. You can still upload devices to ABM but in order to supervise the devices and gain access to those more granular permissions you will need an MDM. ABM is the tool that allows you to essential assign an Apple devices as a corporate devices which gives you the additional permissions on the device via supervision.
      Hope that help, if you have further questions hit me up @ 5minutemobility@gmail.com

    it's been a while since dealing with iOS or Mac OS and now I've been asked, by the owner of the business, to "Lock Down" an iPad we just purchased for our storefront and started doing research on the possibilities. This solution sounds great for larger organizations but is it worth deploying this for a small company that has one or two iOS devices? is there a better solution for "locking down" one or two iOS devices?

    • @5MinuteMobility
      @5MinuteMobility  3 роки тому

      ABM is one piece of that solution, in order to lock down the iPad you will still need to purchase an MDM. Jamf Now or Jamf Pro would be a great MDM I would recommend, pretty easy to learn and use and has great support for Apple. In order to lock an iPad into modes like single app mode, you will still need to have the reseller enroll into your ABM so the device becomes supervised. Once it is supervised you will have the right privileges on the device for your MDM to properly configure

    When you say to add the MDM server into ABM, OR ASM you mean the endpoint manager server (intune)?? is this correct??

    • @5MinuteMobility
      @5MinuteMobility  2 роки тому

      Yes, there is a token authentication between your MDM and ABM which allows them to talk to each other so to speak

    Hey so I have a question, is there no way to enroll devices we already have in our business without resetting them completely? They have accounts already and it will throw a wrench in plans if I can't use them again. In normal FTP for what I use we can use their emails rather setting up a new one. is that an option?

    • @5MinuteMobility
      @5MinuteMobility  Рік тому

      If you want to enable the higher level management with supervision, then yes, you will need to reset them. However, you can still manage them directly with an MDM without supervision. This will still allow you to apply security policies like pin code, application provisioning, and other security settings.

    Hello, is the Device Assignment option on the left side still available in 2021? When I log into Apple Business Manager as an admin I see Devices and below that, I have Device History. I dont have the option to manually enter the serial numbers.

    Can you do a video on what you can actually do with ABM? It looks like all you can really do is assign it to a server, but you really can't do anything with your devices. So am I wrong in saying that ABM is just a fancy redirect to a server. It doesn't really let you look in on any device status or stats at all.

    • @5MinuteMobility
      @5MinuteMobility  4 роки тому +3

      You are correct, ABM is not an MDM, it is a layer on top of an MDM. ABM does 3 main things. It gives you, as an organization, proof of ownership of a device. This can be used in cases like activation lock. ABM also gives you the ability to supervise a device. Supervision, will require an MDM, but will give you more granular configurations inside the MDM. Supervision essentially turns a consumer iOS device into a corporate device with higher privileges and remote managements. Third, ABM, with MDM, will allow you to automate device enrollment into the MDM. This is the idea of you turn on a device, hit wifi, and the device auto hands itself off the MDM for enrollment. Zero-touch from IT. ABM itself won't do much without an MDM, that is still required. I hope that helped

      5 Minute Mobility It just disappoints me. The last thing I wanted was another layer on top of everything else. Especially if it requires so much work, unless you can just add locations/groups easily after the first. Please tell me the additional locations/groups are easy to add.

    • @5MinuteMobility
      @5MinuteMobility  4 роки тому +2

      Are you looking to import groups and locations from an existing directory like AD? That is not possible, you would need to create groups and locations manually. If you have Azure AD you can federate that for end-user import for managed Apple ID.

    Hi,
    I tried to follow your screen and i'm on the devices screen and it doesn't look the same as yours. Yours stated Device Assignments which allows you to manually add the serial numbers of the machines. My page just lists all the devices. How do I get to your screen so that I can manually add the Apple devices I have in inventory and not rely on the resellers?

      Sorry that I am so late to the game, but thank you for watching! Unfortunately, to my knowledge, macOS devices can not be manually enrolled into ABM like iOS devices can via Apple Configurator. There are MDM's like Jamf that have software like Recon that would allow you to view macOS devices on the network and enforce enrollment, additionally, any macOS device can be enrolled after setup configuration. I hope that helps, if you would like to have further convo please feel free to email me at 5minutemobility@gmail.com, I would be glad to help in any way I can!

    Can I add a device which is on activation screen?

    • @5MinuteMobility
      @5MinuteMobility  3 роки тому +2

      Are you referring to activation lock, so it is locked to another users iCloud account? If a device is locked to an iCloud account you will not be able to add the device into ABM/DEP. That end user will need to release that device, or if it is a corporate asset you will need to work with Apple, who will require proof of purchase, to release it. Once the device is released and then enrolled into ABM and MDM, there are configurations you can use within MDM that will allow you to remove activation lock or generate a passcode for a locked future device.
      Additionally, the device has to be enrolled from a factory reset state. So if it already provisioned and you enroll into DEP/ABM, you will need to reset that device so it goes through the activation process again to leverage supervision and automated enrollment.
      I hope that helps, let me know if I address your question properly!

      @@5MinuteMobility Thank you so much. Things cleard but how do I know if this device is already enrolled?

    • @5MinuteMobility
      @5MinuteMobility  3 роки тому +1

      @@inotechsylhet2074 when do you mean already enrolled, are you referring to already enrolled in ABM/DEP? The best way to determine that is going to the MDM server section under settings and you can see how many devices are in that server and download a CSV file which will show you IMEI. Additionally, you can look at the activity feed and that will usually have a notification of a device that is assigned. You can also verify this in your MDM if needed as well.

    Where is the DEP stored? Firmware or software?

    • @5MinuteMobility
      @5MinuteMobility  2 роки тому

      DEP is a cloud based web app. If you are referring to where the serial of the device is stored for validating a device belongs to an organization. When you purchase an Apple device, that reseller can upload the device identifiers to Apple, which then Apple associates it to your DEP. From there you are able to use the MDM to supervise that device as well as enable features like automated enrollment
