bro im 100% with you. I rarely use the clutch to change gears, when im just cruising i might without knowing but most commonly when riding hard or racing ill just bang gears while on full throttle without using the clutch, with 127 hours of doing that on a 450 it still has no signs of wear. ITS LITERALLY IN THE MANUAL THAT THE CLUTCH IT USED TO "MODULATE THE POWER" not change gear. Amazing video as always man
I had fun making this. Like I say, ride how you wanna ride. I like to use no clutch and that's my preference but when people keep saying it will destroy my transmission.....enough is enough haha. I guess the debate will never end
Haha great video!😂 I fully agree with you. Some people that don’t even know how a dirtbike gear box works are talking as if they know whats good or bad for it
Had a feeling this video was bound to pop up haha. I was rather fed up with replying to people who wanted to argue why clutchless shifting is bad on a bike when they couldn’t provide any logical conclusion as to why it is necessary to use the clutch while shifting. But you made a great point in this video. Ride your own bike how you want to, shift how you want to. I tried to explain to people that if you don’t use the clutch while shifting, it’s not going to cause any harm. But some people will still argue until they are blue in the face for no other reason than to feel the satisfaction that they are somehow superior in their self-proclaimed knowledge. Can’t please everyone I suppose.
When I saw that video I felt that it has to be damaging your transmission to shift without clutch. Same thing as alot of other people were thinking. Instead of commenting though I did some research and it turns out I was wrong. I think the reason is alot of people like me (Who doesnt know exactly how a transmission works) have kind of the same theory about what's going on in the transmission when you're pulling the clutch or changing gears. But the point is we obviously doesnt know how it works and I don't get why some people are trying to argue about something they don't understand until they've done atleast some research.
I actually taught myself how to ride a motorcycle using this method at 14 years old because it was hard for me to reach the clutch, so I just happened to try up shifting clutchless and it worked fine and nothing bad ever happened to the few different bikes I rode that way. 😉
I’ve been riding since I was 7 or 8 and I was taught by my dad who was a mechanic to not use clutch while shifting and and downshifting. I’m 44 now and after numerous bikes included dirt bikes and Harley’s I have never had a transmission go bad. I think those people don’t know any better but think they know everything! Lol
Great video, been seeing this debate pop up a lot recently as well. Just FYI, MOST cars utilize a transmission with a very different shifting mechanism in the form of a synchromesh. Bikes use a sequential dogbox transmission. Dogbox transmissions are literally designed so you don't always have to use the clutch. It's design is bred from racing and you can 100% shift without the clutch if desired. Cars with a synchromesh (dumbing it down here guys) rely on friction materials to keep the next gears close to speed. If clutchless shifting is done properly, yeah you might not damage the transmission, BUT it's certainly not guaranteed. Very few cars have a dogbox type trans, mostly specialty built race cars. You can easily chew up gears, damage synchros, and bend/break shift forks in a non-dogbox synchro car. There's 100% a proper way to shift clutchless on bikes. 25+years riding, building, racing cars and bikes, former 17yrs Senior Master Ford tech/Roush Certified/Ford GT certified/8rys former Toyota certified/2yrs former Kawi certified.
I agree with you on this, if done properly, clutchless shifting is a breeze and wont damage anything, using clutch excessively wears plates, springs and generates alot of unwanted heat.
I totally agree with you. I dont use clutch for past 25 years in supersport , motocross and enduro bikes. Never had a problem with transmition or never had yo replace clutch plates. Its actually benefitial less friction on clutch plates means less heat and less clutch dust floating in the engine oil. If you want to long life of your engine dont use clutch to change gears.
It’s hard to convince people but it’s true. A lot of people are stuck in the mindset that the clutch is there for changing gears but it’s not. Thanks for the comment buddy 👍

Now I get this was for dirt bikes more then other bikes. With that said, most factory sportbikes are coming with quick shifters now a days, it doesn't release the clutch for you to shift. They cut the power for a millisecond once the computer senses pressure on the shift rod. Oh and they now auto blip for clutch less down shifts. Dirt vs street, the transmissions are the same style. Stopping and starting and or when ride conditions call for it are the only times you need to use the clutch lever.
Love the video. I do and don't use clutch. It just depends on where I'm riding. I hardly use any clutch on the track and use it quite often when I'm on the trails. Video was great, I didn't even notice your fingers the first time around.
I never worry to much about using the clutch. Some days I do use it some days I don't. I've had 4 different dual sports and none of them have ever had transmission problems.

I've never used the clutch after 1st gear. Never had transmission issues. I don't understand the die-hard "you must use the clutch or else destroy your bike" people. Perhaps certain bikes don't handle it as well
do you change gears 2 at a time? well up at least🤣 i will often catch myself doing this... why i don't know but is it harmful to my transmission or clutch?
I I support that you actually get out there and try, not like all these other people they just put a dislike but you actually work hard and do it and everybody makes mistakes so they can just get over there self
Have raced dirtbikes for 4 years. One of my last bikes was a 2014 ktm 150xc. The bike had 400 hours on it. Did two full motor rebuilds in that time with the stock tranny still having 400hrs on it. To this day I do everything by feel. If I’m riding sand when there’s a lot of load on the bike, I’ll slightly pull in the clutch for a split second to let a bit of load off to find a gear (still with the throttle wide open). I’ve never had any transmission problems on my bikes. A a sequential gearbox. Not an H pattern😂
I know this video is fairly old, but I only just saw it after watching the one it's about. (I have only been subscribed for like 3 or 4 months I think) Anyways, just wanna say I loved this video. And you are my favorite vlogger XD
i remember being 5 years old and my dad saying "just hit it up and hit it down. These things are made for racing, you don't need the clutch unless you need to get the revs back up or do a wheelie." My question is where are your fathers? and if they went out for smokes and never came back, who are these goobers that taught you how to ride?
I raced dirt bikes at a high level for 15years. Most everyone including myself do not use the clutch mainly when shifting up. Yes I’m sure it can do damage.. still most racers don’t use it.
R G when you are a top tier racer using the clutch to shift is to slow nobody does it. I’ve been slammin gears for 20years with no serious problems. Being a racer we constantly replace parts and most of us buy new bikes every year.
R G the transmission on dirt bikes is designed to be that way, most cars like economy vehicles won’t let you do this because the way the transmission is set up. Not using the clutch is faster and easier no matter who you are, and if you’re using a vehicle there are gonna be parts that get damaged over time regardless. After driving thousands and thousands of miles eventually your engine is gonna give up, even if you never beat on it, because that’s just what happens. Whether you’re shifting with or without the clutch on a dirtbike, the transmission is designed specifically so you don’t have to use the clutch. You’re gonna cause damage to the transmission little by little when you use the clutch or not anyway because the clutch is a friction plate, when it collides together it grinds away little by little
I tend to use four fingers on the clutch when downshifting on my supersport 🤷♂️ Nothing wrong with that at all. Having that distribution of force gives me the feeling of having more control of the runout, both in race starts and banging down three or so gears off a straight. Anyway.. first time watching your videos and I'm now a fan. I need more dirt training in my race program and any info is helpful info in one way or another. 🤙
Fun video. Without the hater trolls, their would not be successful youtube video/channels. Unfortunately we need them to go viral. Dont want them! but need them. Keep doing these types of videos.
Enduro A rider here on a 03cr250. I Don’t always use the clutch to shift especially when you have arm pump. Learn to do it correctly and it will save you and your transmission.
Great job! Don't think of it as negative or positive comments, maybe think of it as feedback. Some will give you ideas for improvement some will show you how badly they are educated and why you need to keep making videos, either way lets ride.
Man people just need to just ride lol... I keep it pinned and and pull the clutch in just enough to unload the transmission and grab the gear and let the clutch out. 2 stroke s for life! 🤙
90% off the coments in the vid are kids that never opend a transmission... A Motocycle Transmission is build to change gear without clutch, the clutch is only for start and stop
@@Easystreet1234 you're faster iff you don't, every time you use the clutch the clutchplates get more wore out. Just go slowly on it and just try it out

Love it mate I raced my 06 crf250 from when I was 12 to 17 changing gears clutchless to holding it flat and slipping the clutch and never did a transmission as you said done right it doesn’t wreck anything 🤙🏼✊🏼🍻
People just look for the negative, if they watch your videos they would answer half of their questions. You have never claimed to be an expert, yet you ride some pretty gnarly shit. I’m from Northern California it won’t stop raining here so I am enjoying your videos. Keep it up bro I love the videos
First off great come back video ! I was literally just having this same argument with a couple friends that clutchless shifting is okay if you do it correctly. This proved my point .
I'm currently building a slider (speedway bike) for my son. You don't have a traditional gear shift because when the bike is crossed up and laid down in the corners, there's no room for your foot. The up shift is spring-loaded on a cable to a handle bar lever separateto the clutch lever. You physically can't use the clutch to shift gears with this set up. All the people arguing with you in the comments just don't know what they're talking about dude. You tried to.teach them but they chose ignorance.
A rarely use the clutch going up the gears,we were taught this when racing never had one problem with any bike by not using the clutch going up the gears, even drove round on bikes with snapped clutch levers or no cables when we drove scrappas round the heaps years ago
It amazes me how many people think not using your clutch will destroy your clutch.. That's like saying not driving your car will put miles on it. If it's going to destroy anything it's your transmission but it won't destroy it any quicker than if you did use the clutch.. Pulling the clutch and letting off the throttle do exactly the same thing. The transmission will die eventually either way.
Lol about that one person commenting no mechanic would say not to use a clutch. I bought my first bike at 15 it was a 1973 Kawasaki f7 175 and right before I left he yelled “Oh I forgot! Once you get the hang of the RPMS DO NOT USE THE CLUTCH WHEN SHIFTING.” And I’m not saying this was some biased UA-cam mechanic either. He was from a smaller town called Galesburg in Michigan.
hey can you help me out im 25 and just getting into dirt-bikes what would you recommend 125 or 250f ? was looking at the 125 but power band looks crazy
Depends on where your riding. A yz250f is a track bike and is difficult on trails. A yz250fx is great on track and trail. And very easy to ride. Yz250fx would be my choice. Unless you plan to ride mx only.
Let me be clear. It’s not impossible on trails. Just not as easy especially for a beginner on trails. It will be a rougher ride and more prone to stalling when navigating tight areas.
Spot on! There are options when shifting and the clutch is not always needed. Like you explained, there are 4 methods. The fourth is great if you're that good or have factory support as a Motocross racer would and don't need to worry, if done incorrectly as you explain, it could be a problem if done wrong repeatedly. But if you have grown up on bikes and have practiced, you will be fine with any of the 4. Practice, practice, practice.
Been riding and racing dirt bikes for over 20 years. You dont need no stinking clutch for changing gears. Never had a single transmission issues in any bike ever.
Bro..... You did a gd demonstration on the previous video regarding changing gear on a mx bike i never use the clutch on down shifting and 90% of the time up shift with the throttle open and just kicking it up..... And 10% of the time power shifting with the throttle open depending on how the traction..... Ps and yeah you was caught out on the 4 fingers on the clutch but as a regular viewer i do know that u use 2 fingers on the clutch..... Half of the people that have written negative comments arent dirtbike riders if they were they would of positively related to the video in question!!
People are funny, it is simple, With rev limiter’s on the new four stroke you can just hold the throttle fully open and put a screw in it so it stays there. Then you can sit with the clutch or without it doesn’t matter you just have to hang on. So it’s really a matter of opinion whether not use the clutch as long as you hold the throttle wide open you just go go go go go go go go go go go go go go go go go you can change speeds simply by switching gears faster or slower will depend on your ratios.
I dont use clutch for shift... its normal to this gearboxes.. is made for that... only need to break the motor power/rpm to shift properly, with no damage. Also i brake one gearbox one time and use clutch to shift kkk and not even full throttle... after this, dont use clutch anymore, and no problem... :) srry my ing is bad.🇵🇹
Haven’t had a single person come up with a reasonable scenario where someone has fried their transmission by shifting without the clutch. It’s total bs that you always have to use the clutch. A lot of the pros don’t do it anyways. Really it’s just all preferences of the rider. And it’s my goddamn bike let me do what I want with it for Christ sake! I hate ppl
Good on you for this video 👍🏻…. And good on you coming back on those that obviously don’t quite understand how an motor bike gearbox and clutch works….not expert but an engineer that’s been working on engines and gear boxes for 35 years so seen a bit! But it really not that hard to understand…to change gear it’s all about on loading the gears…and that can be done different ways which you kindly explained very well….and even truck drivers and tractor drivers does it…. I do a bit of it all depending on how and where I am driving.
I am 45 years old got my first bike when I was 5 since my first bike with a clutch I normally use the clutch to start and stop. With only one bad transmission.
I am here LMFAO 😂😂😂 on the ridiculous comments but I will say one thing ur video actually helped me not a lie it seriously changed the way I ride is when I am goin motocross I use the 4th method which leaving the throttle wide open n using the clutch to shift And I am extremely thankful to you man just keep up ur amazing work N help more young riders peace n stay safe😘😘💕💕🤗

Only use the clutch in three scenarios.
1. Shifting into gear from a dead stop.
2. The starting gate.
3. Clutching out of corners.

I I support that you actually get out there and try, not like all these other people they just put a dislike but you actually work hard and do it and everybody makes mistakes so they can just get over there self
i love your videos bru, keep up the good work
Have raced dirtbikes for 4 years.
Thanks man. Appreciate it
i remember being 5 years old and my dad saying "just hit it up and hit it down. These things are made for racing, you don't need the clutch unless you need to get the revs back up or do a wheelie."
My question is where are your fathers? and if they went out for smokes and never came back, who are these goobers that taught you how to ride?
stfu you are super lame
@@nerfmaster33 racist
Nice😂 This was a great show. I thought would you please let us know your top 10 moto youtubers? Perhaps in your upcoming videos or something🤔
Nice idea 😀 you’re in my top 10 🤟
@@MidWestMX 😍😍😍
I raced dirt bikes at a high level for 15years. Most everyone including myself do not use the clutch mainly when shifting up. Yes I’m sure it can do damage.. still most racers don’t use it.
R G when you are a top tier racer using the clutch to shift is to slow nobody does it. I’ve been slammin gears for 20years with no serious problems. Being a racer we constantly replace parts and most of us buy new bikes every year.
R G either way it is a good idea to replace the clutch a couple times a year anyways
R G it is not as bad as some people think
R G the transmission on dirt bikes is designed to be that way, most cars like economy vehicles won’t let you do this because the way the transmission is set up. Not using the clutch is faster and easier no matter who you are, and if you’re using a vehicle there are gonna be parts that get damaged over time regardless. After driving thousands and thousands of miles eventually your engine is gonna give up, even if you never beat on it, because that’s just what happens. Whether you’re shifting with or without the clutch on a dirtbike, the transmission is designed specifically so you don’t have to use the clutch. You’re gonna cause damage to the transmission little by little when you use the clutch or not anyway because the clutch is a friction plate, when it collides together it grinds away little by little
And do you just stay on the gas at the same time? I reckon you do for the absolute fastest way
Loved both videos! Keep them coming! These clutchless videos are the BEST i have found so far. Cheers from Mexico!
I tend to use four fingers on the clutch when downshifting on my supersport 🤷♂️
Nothing wrong with that at all.
I love this video :) so good man, enjoying your content
90% off the coments in the vid are kids that never opend a transmission... A Motocycle Transmission is build to change gear without clutch, the clutch is only for start and stop
Still learning about bikes so when I’m cracking up from 2nd to 5th on my husqavarna te250 I should not use the clutch or should?
@@Easystreet1234 you're faster iff you don't, every time you use the clutch the clutchplates get more wore out. Just go slowly on it and just try it out
ongggg
Personality i change up with the clutch and down the only time i don't use the clutch is down change on long hills but at the end of the day its all personal preference
I hear ya. Ride however you wish, as long as you have fun
Oh yeah yeah
Only you haha
Oh noo noo 😂
abdussamad kalac look up “maximilianmus oh yeah yeah”
Love it mate I raced my 06 crf250 from when I was 12 to 17 changing gears clutchless to holding it flat and slipping the clutch and never did a transmission as you said done right it doesn’t wreck anything 🤙🏼✊🏼🍻
Haters gon hate
Love ur vids keep em coming good stuff bud!!!
People just look for the negative, if they watch your videos they would answer half of their questions. You have never claimed to be an expert, yet you ride some pretty gnarly shit. I’m from Northern California it won’t stop raining here so I am enjoying your videos. Keep it up bro I love the videos
Ah thanks man. Nice to read some good comments. Glad you enjoy and thanks for the support
Haha had a good laugh at this. Love your vids, keep them coming
Loved this video and keep up the good work
hey can you help me out im 25 and just getting into dirt-bikes what would you recommend 125 or 250f ? was looking at the 125 but power band looks crazy
A 125 will make you an awesome rider but hard to handle. A 250f is a lot easier and smoother for a first time rider. Easy maintenance also
@@MidWestMX thanks bro
Depends on where your riding. A yz250f is a track bike and is difficult on trails. A yz250fx is great on track and trail. And very easy to ride. Yz250fx would be my choice. Unless you plan to ride mx only.
Let me be clear. It’s not impossible on trails. Just not as easy especially for a beginner on trails. It will be a rougher ride and more prone to stalling when navigating tight areas.
Michael Charette was looking at the Ktm 250 Xcf and what’s the difference. Between yz250f and yz250fx ?
Lol my comment was in there, I stand corrected, I actually don’t know that much about bikes(new to it) and I guess I learned something new
Good video man keep up the good work :)
Thanks man
Good stuff mate 👍🏻 People that actually ride or race motocross bikes will understand, people that don’t will pipe up! They should keep quiet and learn.
😂
Haters gona hate! I sent your vid to a bud of mine who i was in a debate with...vid was good and shut him up so its golden!
Yeah man you tell them 😂 and good video btw 👍
Your response to Ziad 👌
This is how I feel when I tell my friends that I sometimes shift without the clutch 😂😂😂
I was doing a wheelie and I accidentally kept my hand on the accelerator and change gear with clutch does this damage your bike I want to know please
I use my clutch to pull off and downshifting, sometimes on Sundays I don't use it at all.
Hey MidWest I love your videos keep up the good work do you have any advice on what bike I should get next that's a step ho p from a TTR 230
Try out a few and see what you like. It’s all down to what your comfortable with 🤟
Wr250f or yz250fx
Your always gonna have them trolls just dust them of and keep making good vids bud.
Just come across this! Funny video! Love your other vids, just got myself a wr450f so taking some inspiration from you 👍🍻
People are funny, it is simple, With rev limiter’s on the new four stroke you can just hold the throttle fully open and put a screw in it so it stays there.
I’ve never used the clutch to shift up or down, never had a problem.
bruh i cant believe this has turned into an actual thing lololol
It’s crazy!
I've been riding for 44 years. I never use the clutch to shift gears. I always use 4 fingers on the clutch lever.
John Bergeson so you don’t need to use the clutch when shifting up or down?
I never use the clutch to shift! Only needed to stop and start doesn’t cause any damage to your gearbox
Hahahahaha had a laugh watching this one. 6:00 LMAO pure gold
I am 45 years old got my first bike when I was 5 since my first bike with a clutch I normally use the clutch to start and stop. With only one bad transmission.
I have a yz85 and when i ride normally slow i use the clutch but when i need to be fast i change gears up with no clutch
I have a kx85 and i do the same.
Watched the first video and this one found it really helpful maybe give some cluchless up shifts today (I’m new to riding bikes lol)
I am here LMFAO 😂😂😂 on the ridiculous comments but I will say one thing ur video actually helped me not a lie it seriously changed the way I ride is when I am goin motocross I use the 4th method which leaving the throttle wide open n using the clutch to shift
And I am extremely thankful to you man just keep up ur amazing work
N help more young riders
peace n stay safe😘😘💕💕🤗
Thanks man. At least someone appreciates it 😀 ride safe brother
I’ve never (very rarely) used the clutch to shift gears and race most weekends. My last bike did 150 hours and never had a transmission issue
That's kinda bad that's only a MONTH of riding for me
Mine lasted 10 years till I blew it all apart
Eggzactly
KinxgSlap that’s bs do the math 150 hours divided into 30 days is 5 hours a day I highly doubt you are riding that much
I do clutchless downshifts on my dirtbike without blipping the throttle because transmission will do it by itself, sequential transmissions do that
Man I enjoyed both videos including the comments ahahahaha 👍
Bigturc Lake life the comments are my favourite part 😂 glad you enjoyed brother
Good video, patience is a virtue
