Why is Bernardo a six time world champion? Look how focused and engaged he is and the enthusiasm he brings to try the position in every video he puts out. Bernardo signify's how a black belt is supposed represent this art by being a great student.

I’m only a 1.5y white belt, however I always try to do my best, as both a student to higher belts and teacher to beginners.
      -
I feel like I improve so much faster, by incorporating the teacher-student relationship with my sparring partners and not only my teacher.
      -
I also need to continually remind myself to not beat myself up, about losing to higher belts and talented bjj enthusiasts.
Some days I need to remember to focus on submissions, and other days we work defending and sweeping.

4:05 -- best mount defense ever -- "I'll be solo for one second, Bernardo."
Like that, without any effort, there are no wedges, no pressure, no control. A multiple-time world champion is rendered completely powerless, and the mount defense has been executed perfectly.

@mov1987 I don't think that's entirely accurate. Marcelo's game is based off of the judo concept of Kuzushi, which he employs copiously because he comes from Judo. It is his kuzushi that he does which makes us think it is about speed and strength, but it isn't necessarily so.

These New Zealanders are so tuned in it's incredible. Anyone familiar with rugby knows how well thought out everything they do is. It seems that John Danaher has taken a lot of these philosphies/strategies into BJJ. I don't know if it's a consequence of their education system or what it is, but it's fascinating. The All Blacks in rugby are known as innovators, with attention to details. However, they are also known for their adherence to basics, fundamentals and tradition. It's what sets them apart and allows them to function so well as a unit. This adherence to the shrimp, the respect for something that most of us take in almost a blasé fashion..well it's the same idea and the reason his team.are the best. Fascinating.

Its working really well to get me back into half guard but im struggling to get my other leg out. Im not sure if I'm doing my second and third shrimp right. But i was amazed how easily it was to get back to half guard after it being almost impossible for me the last 6 months. Thank you.

John Danaher’s intensity reminds me of an NCO I had in the service. When he says,”If you learn one thing from this video “....... listen up. It may save your life.

Awesome video! One adjustment I made for myself is instead of doing 2 sliding shrimps to get into closed guard, I instead do 1 shrimp to get to butterfly which I prefer to play most of the times.

THAT WAS AWESOME!!!! I've tried somekind of these and have opened myself to other problems BECAUSE during the scramble I've given my move away or MOST TIMES I roll with BETTER GUYS!! I know it's ongoing learning and I have FAR FROM PERFECTED ANYTHING!!!
And still, THAT WAS SOOOOO AWESOME!!

every beginners class needs this shrimp talk. this applies to most of the warm up movements in my opinion.
