Anyone remember the Synful Orchestra horn? Synful was set to disrupt the whole sample library industry... and then suspiciously stopped development.

Yeah, it was amazing at the time. It had a short piece of strings quartet music demo on its website, that was shockingly realistic sounding.

I think the horn was the first of what was going to be an improved set of instruments. It showed how good Synful could be and because it wasn't sample based it only took up about 500mb or something stupid for a whole orchestra??

Synful is now available free of charge and there is talk of it being open sourced.

@@DHealey really? I paid full price for it a lifetime ago! I would love it to go open source. Such potential. Thanks for the info.

I really liked Synful Orchestra. It's a bit artifact-y, but it gets the job done with a lot of articulation power, especially in a more crowded mix. Since _mostly_ switching to Linux, I've missed it (it became freeware a recent while ago).
Physical modeling seems to be getting a bit of marketing buzz these days, but time will tell. I think the Achille's Heel of Physical modeling would be CPU power (I have a gut feeling that software has been getting more and more inefficient and computing power getting more and more demanding with less usage-longevity).

I was a little disappointed with the muted patches when I bought this. But you make a good point to adjust the mics to get fuller closer sound.

Nice! I have Magestic Horns because it's on a very low price. Good as a starting point at least. If you have not already tried the free Solo Legato Trumpet by Musical Sampling that is a must. Yes, my favourite brass library is a free one.

so, maybe you have the time and money and gear to hire a bunch of horn players and studio gear and experiment with your ideas??. remember, production stuff like compression, delay, chorus reverb, sidechain and so on can make these tools sound more 'realistic', but 'realistic' is overrated, anyways. i say that as a REAL trumpet and clarinet player who plays guitar and bass like horn player, so enough with the elist nonsense. it's about rapid development of ideas, and a lot of people are oblvivious to whether something sounds real or not. it's whether the SONG is good or not. you should know this.
