    🥳Just received my Ras. Pi4 today!
    I opted for the 8GB RAM, 128GB Memory Version.
    Absolutely Thrilled!
    I have been reading and reviewing this for a few months.
    Finally have one!
    I watched the video first, now my next move is to get an ESD Setup for Installation.
    Some that are familiar may think it is obvious, but NOOBS (newbs) may think it is okay to handle/install the PCB without ESD precautions.
    What do you think?
    And Thanks for the Review @LowDoughTech

    The Raspberry Pi 8 and my opinion after 3 weeks working with it and crashing it so many time I have lost count. Why because there are so many opinions out there I wanted to use it full time first to see if it can indeed be used on a daily bases and second which distro really is best for stability, over heating, and finally over clocking. Storage Samsung T5 125g, quality on the Pi is important.
    (1) The Pi can certainly be used as a daily driver of course without gaming included. My big test was I watch T,V, on my mini computer that I built so can you watch movies and television on this yes a little slow on booting the program in some cases but once up and running no problems.
    (2) Over heating will occur if you are not using at least heat sinks in my case I opted for a cooler which works great. Bare bones heating hit as high as 70-80 Degrees way to high, Heat sinks much better 60-70 degrees, and a cooler 40-50 degrees all under stress.
    (3) Distros I have tried them all the 2 best are Twister and Raspian both very stable and quick.
    (4) Finally over clocking. My opinion do not over clock if you are not using a cooler, the heat and stress on the CPU is just not worth it because it will cause throttling, and you will get video tearing. I have tried all levels of over clocking and in my case from the max of Over_voltage=8, Arm_freq=2140, GPU-freq=700, I find the best setup is really gpu_mem=512, gpu_freq=600 and over_voltage=6, very stable, heat and tearing controlled.
    Take my opinion for what it’s worth have fun with the Pi it’s great to work with.

    Do the heatsinks come with some sort of adhesive? Tape, or thermal paste?

      The heatsinks have a pre-applied adhesive. You just peel off the protective paper, and it's ready to stick on to the Pi.

    So, I'm very new to this whole Raspberry Pi & RetroPie thing. I am not very knowledgeable about it at all. Recently, I purchased the LABISTS Raspberry Pi 4 4GB Complete Starter PRO Kit with 32GB Micro SD Card (4GB RAM). I was finally able to get it set up and I was able to play a few games on it last night (5/26/21). The main reason why I decided to go with a Raspberry Pi was because I'm a child of the 80s and 90s. I wanted to have a system that let me play retro video games such as arcade games and console games (Genesis & SNES) from that time period. The problem I've run into now is that some of the roms work fine and others don't. I can't figure out why this is happening. I have heard that arcade roms use MAME, etc . . . Some of the arcade and 16-bit console roms are working, but other ones are not. Does anyone know why this is happening and how I can fix this latest issue that I'm facing? Thanks.

  • @trackmastersdj

    What's the best way to turn off the Raspberry Pi 4 after you're done playing it? Should I shut it down through the emulator/RetroPie internally or just flip the power switch on the power cord adapter manually?

    • @LowDoughTech
      @LowDoughTech  3 роки тому +1

      If available, I generally try to turn the pi off through the OS interface (It's a habit I try to stay in with all computer devices). However, I have shut off plenty of Rpis off with the click switch and never had any problems.

    Again and again for many years I tried and tried to use Linux as my primary Desktop but I always find myself troubleshooting a lot of stuff than do actual work. I spend my time trying to make it work but it fails me miserably. I bought an rPi 4 4GB to gave Linux another chance but I get the same disappointment feeling. Linux as desktop cannot just keep up with most of users needs. I have almost 20 years as Linux Server Admin experience and I get frustrated every time I switch to Linux as my Desktop.

      Red blinking light indicates a faulty power supply. If you just bought it, I would contact whoever you purchased it through, and see if you can get a replacement. Did you buy it as an all-in-one kit, or piece it together?
      A kit should include the proper power supply, if it's not a kit, ensure that you have the right power supply for the PI.

    What does "over-clocking" Raspberry Pi 4 mean? 🤔

    • @LowDoughTech
      @LowDoughTech  3 роки тому

      You can go into the config.txt file of the pi's boot partition and change the settings to make the CPU run faster. The trade off is that it will also run hotter, and you'll likely need some sort of extra cooling for the pi. It's something that if you plan on doing it, study up on it a lot and make sure you know exactly what you're doing.
