Welcome to another episode of Chopstick Travel. Today we are in Kuala Lumpur (KL), Malaysia to eat! Malaysia is home to see of the BEST street food in the world, offering options for Malay street food, Chinese street food, Indian street food, halal street food and much more.
In this video, we take you on a street food tour starting with the delicious Roti Bangir Special with Teh Tarik for breakfast. Next, we show you the best place to explore nature in the city centre at KL Forest Eco Park. Then, we take you for some smokey, street side Ikan Bakar (fish BBQ) outside the city centre. To cool off, durian cendol is a must-have (and is super unique), followed by a walk through the Chow Kit Market. For dinner, we check out a dedicated satay restaurant. The meat was so juicy and the chunks were huge! What an amazing day of STREET FOOD eating!

there are so many varieties of roti - Indian based roti and malay based roti. I think for most pleasure people will usually go for malay based roti canai because of the texture of the roti and gravy used. you'll definitely be happy.

so in this case, it means flat bread drenched in curry sauces

The way to eat rice neatly first and for most is to have your hands washed. Ball the rice with whatever you're eating just at the tip of your fingers then scoop it. Bring it up to your mouth then push it in with your thumb.
For bony fish, you can mash the meat with your fingers to feel it and remove it if any.

What an incredible food journey in Kuala Lumpur! I was drooling watching you eat the fish in the banana leaf and the satays looked so juicy and yummy too. I am also fascinated by the various dipping sauces that comes with the dishes and your description of tasting it with and without the sauces. 3:53 "teh tarik" = "pulled tea"
tea is aerated by pouring the concoction vertically from one mug down to another forming a layer of bubbles (that eventually disappears as the drink sits) on the top of the drink when it is first served.
sweetness comes from addition of sweetened condensed milk. traditionally, does not contain added spices.
on the other hand, "teh halia" = "ginger tea" is the same as teh tarik BUT with added ginger powder.

Here's a good tip for you guys. When you eat satay, dip the rice cake and cucumber into the peanut sauce too. Super delicious!

Yeah..you and I got the same taste buds. I'm Malaysian and I really love both Cendol and Durian individually. But the taste becomes really weird when it combined together. I can't get it when my relatives and friends like cendol durian even though I'm a Malaysian Malay! 😂

If you eat at STREET local stall/restaurant... trust me, the price for per dish should be around RM25 or lower. RM50 for that Ikan Bakar it is too much. You all can have like a full set of breakfast/lunch/dinner for that Ikan Bakar price. Hati-hati.

Hi Luke, nice video! I'm from Kuala Lumpur too, but for the durian cendol, I recommend going to Melaka (Malacca) to try it. If I remember correctly, there are several stores that sell durian cendol but the way they serve it is they put durian paste, which is slightly sweetened, on top of cendol. The durian paste just blends in much better with the dessert than simply putting pieces of durian in the dish. You should check them out the next time you're in Malaysia.

It goes without saying that satay is the best food or snack to have. Excellent choice and glad you love durian as it is also my favourite fruit. I once sneak some into my hotel and needless to say there were signs everywhere with the words to the effect that some clowns have consumed durian in the hotel and have polluted the air vent with its smell.

I think ikan bakar that u ate is called "terubuk" in bahasa, its some type of herring fish, and it is delicious especially around its belly part and its a bit pricey... But there's a lot of bone in there, when I say alot I means like a gazillions and it's annoying when you eat it with rice, just don't eat it with rice and use both of your hands and you'll be fine..
