- It's been one (amazing) year since we launched Steam Deck! In celebration, we’ve put together a little video with highlights from Steam Deck’s first year, with an emphasis on all of YOU. Steam Deck wouldn't be such a success without everyone in the community. We're glad you love Steam Deck as much as we do, and here's to many years to come.

They still scammers and I have proof.
@@morgboat744 wonder if they still have big pink cookies.
That moment at the 2 minute mark is key, and something that was done more often:
If you're a large, highly profitable company, you can afford to take risks.
I am glad the move was to create a product that, though obviously having a profit motive, was still clearly made with the consumers in mind
From any other megacorp those would be empty words, Valve has always been fairly pro consumer. I may have my gripes with them, but the good outweighs the bad.
@@protocetid It's not about the words or who said it.
It's that a company that did it, said it. If EA said something similar, I would be singing the same tune.
i respect valve more than any other tech company cause not that many companies out there respect their customers like valve does, and for them to still blow the competition out of the water is proof that every other tech company is just run by greedy assholes
Pretty sure they're not profiting much if at all on the devices themselves. They are from the store though.
It is so refreshing in the current climate where everything seems to be so anti-consumer. Valve are the best, and Gaben truly is a god.

The steam deck was one of, if not the most, important things to happen to the gaming landscape within the last five years. I have loved mine since I got it, and I'm looking forward for all that's to come!
Next they should transform the gaming and smartphone landscape simultaneously with a Steam Phone powered by an AMD or Intel chip.
Cool I heard that some UA-camrs sold their switches or PC's for a deck
@@meric12131415 I have both my PC and consoles, but I still use my deck especially when traveling and in bed lol.
@@protocetid that would be pretty dope actually. I feel like the smartphone gaming scene is being underutilized.
@@grimaper It would likely sport the typical Linux smartphone advantages like repairability, the ability to run any software you want (in both app and OS form), a replaceable battery and updates forever. Baffles me gamers aren’t clamoring for a Steam Phone, although there a couple explanations that appear valid at face value. Number 1, the kind of processors AMD and Intel make (called x86) run much hotter and are hungrier for energy than the processors in regular mobile devices (ARM).
Thus a mobile x86 chip would be weaker than an ARM one in the same price bracket, making a chip weaker is the easiest way to lower it’s energy consumption and temperature. This doesn’t really matter because most smartphones don’t really have anything that use all of their performance, ARM has gotten so powerful it’s overkill for general phone use. Trading some performance for the ability to use PC software (which would be adapted for a mobile interface) would be so worth it. And it would function like a desktop when you need it to.

Compared to other big tech companies, Valve is so damn cool. Don't get me wrong, they've made mistakes, but just with the Steam Deck they've:
Helped gaming on Linux grow a lot with the help of Proton and SteamOS
Set a standard for right-to-repair
Encouraged devs to optimize for lower-end devices
Finally made a portable PC that isn't $1000
Encouraged other companies like ASUS to step into the portable PC market (competition is always good)
Made playing PC games with a controller way easier with Steam Input (Yes, technically it existed before the Deck but they overhauled it's UI with the Deck to make it way more intuitive)
And probably more I can't think of right now. Honestly, props to this company.
