    Disclaimer - If you are doing this to your valve cover, the top port caused hood clearance issues. The proper way yo install that port is to drill out the existing hole by the breather and put the bung there instead.

      @@NappMotorsports what HP level do you recommend this mod? The stock vacuum lines look to be 3/8". Im currently running 3/8 through oil separator on intake side and vent to atmosphere on exhaust side. Im targeting running 220 whp.

    Another good tip with the pcv system is to swap the stock valve to a pcv valve from a mazda 323 (not sure if same name in the US) plug and play fit but works much better as the 323 is the original user of the mx5 engine and boosted from stock

    I wish I watched this video before doing my setup. I hooked one side of my catch can to both vents on the valve cover with a T, and hooked one side to the intake before the turbo. That made it suck air out of the crank case... Seemed to be too much vacuum and it completely filled the catch can and intercooler pipes. Now I'm stuck cleaning oil that sprayed EVERYWHERE in the engine bay. Not sure how that much oil got through the channels on the valve cover. I saw the suggestion in a forum somewhere and they were definitely wrong. Oh well, we live we learn.

      If anyone tells you they haven’t made mistakes, they’re lying. Live and learn! But yeah definitely run each line separate.

    Love your channel. Photography advice…don’t stand between the camera and a window unless you have a light on you from the camera side

    What filler rod do you find works best for this job?

      Lately I’ve been using 1/16 ER5356 from Weldcote on Amazon and it’s been great.

    Following for a while now and liking the content. Currently On my second engine build, fully forged b6. On Holset HE221 Turbo. Anyway, have a spare cover and am a welder, wanted to do the valve cover breather mod, but could not find a definitive solution or guide from any of the mx5, miataturbo forums, so was unwilling to commit even with a spare cover.. I am shooting for around 300hp , 250plus whp . My question is do you have any links you can share, that back up your recommendation of AN Size and placement, would like some additional reading before taking the plunge. Great content and keep the vids coming 👌

      10AN is just a fairly typical standard for vented valve covers. 2 of them is the norm. As far as the drilling, I used info from a couple Miataturbo posts and I’m hoping it’s golden hahaha.

    This is a step in the direction I want to go but I think I'd prefer a oil separator setup where possible since it drains clean oil back to the crankcase. The catch can just fills over time with contaminated oil

    • @NappMotorsports
      @NappMotorsports  Рік тому

      I really don’t like the drain back idea. The oil that comes out of these cans is nasty. Besides, your catch can shouldn’t be filling up that quick either.

      @@NappMotorsports I highly recommend checking into motoIQ's video about the oil separator they used on Subaru. The concept behind it is actually a good one. You cget clean oil back into the engine in short

    Is wrapping not an issue at all? I just have very limited welding experience, but everything I welded wrapped one way or the other. 😅

    • @NappMotorsports

      The huge aluminum plate that I’m welding on top of helps dissipate the heat a lot. Shouldn’t be an issue here.

    Will you be offering the valve cover/catch can as a service? Can you powder coat wrinkle red ;) Welds look good considering your newness to it!

    • @NappMotorsports
      @NappMotorsports  3 роки тому

      Yeah that’s the plan. I can’t powder coat, but I would send them out to be done, and any color can be picked.

    You give excellent videos but you talk to the people out here like we/they are 12 yrs. old. Cot down on the repatriation and over explaining things. Other then that the quality is excellent.. thanks for the free knowledge.
