    I've always gotten the vibe from Pedego that their target demographic is the retired but active senior citizen in a warm climate (AZ, FL, southern CA). Their pastel colors, choice of comfort accessories and components, and strong support through B&M stores with full service also speaks to that. This is a carefree, cruising on the boardwalk bike. I am not one who cares to criticize a bike made for someone who is not me. It's fine for its target demographic, and I think it's good that someone is making a bike like this. Actually, Pedego was the first ebike I ever looked at on a visit to San Diego. This is the bike I will buy when I turn 80.

      There is a market for a fully assembled and tested bike from a dealership. A dealer that will be there for the needed support and maintenance down the line. Been through the Aventon direct to consumer model where you do the final assembly and troubleshooting. And so what if it is aimed at older folks. They have all the money - LOL.

    For 2K and over, Pedego needs a torque sensor. Torque sensors are just the standard now. That is why Aventon is having such success.

    I wish Pedego would fix the pedal assist not engaging on their 2022 bikes. Dealer says to contact factory. I have for over 7 months with only promises of updates and fixes. Problem is still not fixed. This problem did not exist on 2021 bikes. The issue it after pedaling above a set PAS speed for even 500 feet then encountering a rise slowing the bike the PAS does not kick in and the throttle is dead. You have to stop pedaling for a second then start pedaling and PAS then engages. Dealers can not fix until Pedego comes up with a solution. The can not or will not tell me if the problem still exists on 2023 bikes either.

    I am renting a pedego interceptor. It looks like a step-through beach cruiser. I hope that is not something that was only designed to be used for riding near the beach. I will be using it on flat bike trails going for a bike ride with my friends. My legs get tired when we go on long bike ride so I'm hoping the pedal assist will help.

    Nice review and nice bike shop folks. How would you swing your leg over that nice but tall trunk bag on a step through bike?

  • @jawsgreatwhite9966
    @jawsgreatwhite9966 2 роки тому

    I just bought the step through model a couple of weeks ago and absolutely love it! I did have an issue with the battery though. After riding only 20 miles the battery showed only one bar left while the read out display showed half. I mostly pedal at assist number 2 and the battery is a 36 volt 17.5 amp which should have given me much better distance for riding. I took the battery back to have it tested and it failed so Pedego is giving me a new one. I am also concerned about the steel handlebars rusting over time and I wonder if I should wrap it or paint it or something to prevent this from happening. Overall though the bikes comfort and stability is great and the fun factor is awesome.

    Court, Is there a reason why they don't have the 28mph motor?
    And can the motor be tuned to that?

    • @ElectricBikeReview
      @ElectricBikeReview  3 роки тому +2

      I’m not aware of any full Class 3 models from Pedego, but I think the top speed can be adjusted a little bit in the display settings, maybe up to 25mph and down to 12mph? I didn’t test this, I think Pedego is just trying to make the bikes safe and accessible since Class 2 is pretty common and their customers tend to be more casual vs commuters. I’ll ask next time I’m in the shop :)

    Court, I've always loved the cruiser look and that warranty is pretty dang fantastic. Do you think there is a risk of having throttle only just above the highest assist level vs. having it available at level 0, that sounds a little risky to me. Good disengagement of the motor, I find that a place where budget bikes are a little lacking. Cheers

    • @ElectricBikeReview
      @ElectricBikeReview  3 роки тому +1

      It’s an interesting choice, and one that seems unique to Pedego… but I can see why they chose it. Basically the bike starts in 0 and nothing works, not even the throttle. Then you get full throttle in 1-5 along with increasing assist power if you turn the cranks. At level 6, the pedal assist stops and it’s only throttle. For those who want to use throttle mode regularly, that’s six clicks each time you turn the bike on, but at least it’s also available in level 1.

    With the frankly ridiculous cost of some E bike brands , that let's be honest a lot can not afford, then this bike at this low a price is pretty ok especially with the battery warranty and the cost of the batteries, my bike battery is 450 not cheap and with only a 2 Yr guarantee on mine you start to see the value in there batteries.

      I think that manufacturers may use a brand name that they feel comfortable in putting forth an identifiable essense of character that will attract purchasers for an idea that is quite acceptable. As a consequence of providing a focus area of the bike's usefulness (by name), there will Always those detractors whose main intent is to be quite confrontational and on the prod, in essence being pre-programmed for controversy for the sheer enjoyment of such activity.

    Maybe it’s just me but the Vanna White action with the hand flying in and out of the frame is extremely annoying and distracting. It’s seems to be a new signature style on EBR. I liked the older vids a whole lot more. Most people watching already know the various parts of the bike being demoed.

    • @ElectricBikeReview
      @ElectricBikeReview  3 роки тому +3

      Thanks for the feedback! Perhaps it’s time to adjust, my goal has been to make my words clear by pointing and going through all of the parts thoroughly. I suspect that there are many newbies who might not be familiar with the different bike parts. I’m aware of other channels that do quicker videos and gloss over some of the little stuff. Perhaps I could move a bit slower or me more steady with the camera. Do you have any other suggestions or things that you like?

    • @stopkafirophobia
      @stopkafirophobia 3 роки тому

      It’s probably just me and a few others that are distracted by the disembodied flying hand lol. Your vids are really great and informative over all - the gold standard in my opinion. I would just maybe dial back some of the hand stuff a bit where it’s not really needed. But maybe others like it 🍻

    You are not a good ebike reviewer. You would do a lot better reviewing pedal bikes, since that seems to be mostly all you are interested in. If I could pedal a bicycle I would. But since I am disabled and can't pedal, I got an ebike. I ride it 15-20 miles almost every day, with NO pedaling. If the battery went dead, or something in the electric drive system failed, I would be stranded and have to call for help. Me and the bike would both go home in a truck. If you can pedal, you do not need an ebike. The only reason for a physically fit person to have an ebike is just plain laziness.

      Hi, Gerald! I wanted to tell you I really appreciated your comment. I'm glad you found a way to work with your disability. As a health coach, sometimes it's tricky to get my clients to think out of the box like that! Class 3 E-bikes (Throttle only, not requiring pedaling at all) are really useful in cases like yours, and since your comment, I suggested it to one of my clients who has mobility concerns. Class 1 (pedal assist only) and Class 2 (pedal assist and throttle, like this one) e-bikes are more appropriate for people like me, who are in situations where either the bike will have to conquer some pretty steep hills or the owner will be riding for longer distances in work clothes. I'm actually going to use mine to do my daily commuting, grocery shopping, etc, rather than buying a new car. I want to be able to ride it in a workout on the trails like a normal bike when I can (low or no pedal assist), but I'm not looking to do a full blown workout trying to get up the hills near my home in 100+ degree weather when I have a client call over Zoom immediately after! Can you imagine? Lol. That would sure leave an impression!
