Like the looks and dimensions. For me however, to get a similar style I would go with the Islander Southold. Yes, thickness is higher but price is lower. Plus, you get Marc's customer service.
Often the problem with Spinnaker. One aspect of the watch will be great and the rest trails behind. Decent value for money but the design always feels incomplete (or lacking cohesion).
Can you elaborate what's meh about it? The dial and AR coating seemed good as well as the bracelet and finishing. Do you not like the design? The printed indices? Or maybe the movement? Just curious because I've been liking some of the Spinnaker divers and wondering whether to pull the trigger
@@fark69, by ‘meh’ I mean it doesn’t offend, but it doesn’t excite me either. It’s a bit of a ‘parts bin special’ in that it’s a combination of bits I feel I’ve seen a million times before. As suggested in the review, the blue of the bezel insert is tonally nothing like the blue of the dial and it looks like an afterthought. I’m sure the quality is fine and if you like it I see no reason why you shouldn’t buy it.
It's a seriously nice watch. I agree on the female end links, in fact this was my first thought seeing the watch. And I'm a fan of the bezel insert. Finally a matt ceramic bezel insert that really looked like aluminium. The dial markings had the strongest lume. Perhaps the lume of the hands gets improved upon as this was only a prototype.
Pretty decent watch! Even uses a higher-end Miyota rather than the ridiculously ubiquitous NH35. Still, I don't see how they're justifying the cost, but it's close to competitors (my Steinhart Ocean One, made in Germany with a Swiss movement, sapphire, no date, same depth rating cost less). Great review all the same, Jody!
The price of this is eye watering, even with a discount! They're also up against some stiff competition and I don't think this cuts it, as thin as it is.
I admit to finding several Spinnaker models attractive, I never thought the entire package worth it. In the price range this model plays in, there's so much competition. And, honestly, for about half MSRP without discount, you can have a Glycine Combat Sub with a Sellita movement inside (of all places, look at Walmart online). At 12mm thick, it's not quite as thin as the Spinnaker, but it's arguably a better, or at least equal, movement in a Swiss watch. I generally prefer Glycine's combat sub style, which is a bonus.
Hmm, I see Glycine Combat Subs selling for often more than some Spinnaker divers (like the Cahill) especially when you consider the 20% discount code for Spinnaker off the website. And afaik, Glycine combat sub doesn't have double domed sapphire crystal, doesn't have as nice case finishing, and it's also printed dial, so what are you getting with the Combat Sub over this or another Spinnaker diver? Just curious
Can’t help but to think of the Casio Duro. I know it’s not an apples to apples comparison but if I’m reminded of a around $50 watch to this over $500 one, makes more sense to go with the Duro.
Spinnaker: fantastic job with the interesting hand set, and the no date. Now begin installing display case backs on every watch, with a closed case back as an option.
I feel like more companies should focus on the skindiver category of dive watches. This is still a very capable diver, at 300 meters, but it achieves a wonderfully slim profile. I love a deep diver but it is refreshing when companies put a bit more focus on "wear ability." 100m is more than enough for most of us *cough Seiko 5* *cough Vostok* Great video and thanks for bringing another beautiful diver to my attention!
I got the deep crimson red one on sale at the Spinnaker website for 40$ off. It goes from crimson to black with the light and the bezel is often like a Coke bezel. It is becoming one of my most worn. It is a terrific watch!
Excellent looking watch. Let’s hope it does well for them and that other manufacturers take note; we need more slim dive watches. Jody, do you reckon Miyota 9000/150m WR/9mm thick would be possible?
I agree with the comment on the blue on the dial and bezel not matching. I noticed it about midway through the video. It is a nice watch though. Black bezel with the same dial would be a good improvement.
Looks like a winner to me, assuming QA on the production models is better than the prototype. Love the blue and case design - perhaps reminiscent of Tudor?

I don't think I can buy another Spinnaker after my experience with my Tesei bronze. The first one I bought had the crown break within a week. Mark at long Island was great and sent me a new one. This one broke a year and a half later where my unidirectional bezel suddenly became bidirectional. I sent it in for a warranty repair through the place Spinnaker does warranty work in the USA and they decided that it wasn't covered under the warranty. So begrudgingly I paid them $300 to replace the case and regulate the movement. I got the watch back and it was loosing time erratically. -15 seconds one day, -50 seconds the next day, -25 seconds the next and after a few weeks of this the movement stopped working completely. I sent the watch to my local watch maker who told me the pallet jewels were broken and it would cost another $300. The Spinnaker repair center refused to pay to have it fixed but offered to replace the movement for free, so I sent the watch back to them. I have been waiting 2 months for them replace the movement and they still haven't returned my watch. Their customer service is awful. I constantly have to follow up with them because if I don't they forget about me and nothing would ever gets done. At this point after 2 watches and almost a year without my watch, I am convinced that Spinnaker watches are overpriced, made poorly, and their warranty is complete B.S. That being said, this doesn't look too bad. Just a little expensive for a Miyota powered watch.
I hate to say it, but your watch maker did you a huge disservice. The fact is- The wholesale cost of an NH3X movement is about $50. Even if he charged you a full hour for the service (which a competent watch maker could do in about 5 minutes- including regulation) it should be a $100 repair. I feel this falls into the dive watch trap of over-designing, too many elements. If you were looking at a Seiko this is definitely a solid competitor though.
The thinnest watch I ever saw and I owned it for a while after my dad, was his 1979 Bulova Phantom Digital. In gold of course, the two button pushers on the front were thicker than the watch itself but the problem is batteries only lasted about six months, and there was a glitch and it couldn’t be repaired which is a shame because I think it was about C$800 back then if I recall the sticker on it (it did look about as thin as the example you showed.) I am seeing a lot of those progressive Blue fade dial watches from the interesting new offerings on watch dives, for example the new mini turtle from Heimdahler.
I like the watch everthing is great, from the dimension, brushed steel, plus leather strap, however the price is 650 less 20 percent that will 540 USD, maybe justified by the “high end, high beat” miyota no date movement, still a miyota, just like Lorier and Baltic they used this miyota movements, is it justified to to buy it at this price range? I signed up after I viewed this video last night, however still not pulling the trigger when I saw the price 😬, anyway good review
Rolex dial and seamaster hands 🙌 I like it but I’m saving up for a Christopher Ward…(and another Tudor and another Rolex and another Omega etc etc etc 🤣)
1st time I've ever commented, been watching you since you started, pretty much. Very enjoyable. Anyways. I BET the case was made by the same folks eho make the cases for NTH! Made the same way!!
I would say the manufacturer for NTH, which used to produce their first versions of the SUB's (like the Näcken, Baracuda, etc.) has sold the design to Spinaker, as the first gen. of NTH subs is no longer available. I wonder what Cris Weil would think about this...
Thanks for the review Jody. I have been looking at this brand over the last few years and manage to find fault with each watch previously. Nothing has changed in that regard, so another pass from me.
There's always a little thing missing or something I find to be too much with Spinnaker. I wanted the Fleuss soo bad but the dial texture kills it. It's the N and the lume with this one...

In gold of course, the two button pushers on the front were thicker than the watch itself but the problem is batteries only lasted about six months, and there was a glitch and it couldn’t be repaired which is a shame because I think it was about C$800 back then if I recall the sticker on it (it did look about as thin as the example you showed.)
I am seeing a lot of those progressive Blue fade dial watches from the interesting new offerings on watch dives, for example the new mini turtle from Heimdahler.
Give me a Ti version and I'm in... Thanks Jody. Can you help me? I still need just ONE more watch!
Helm Miyako review please! Ive loved my blue one so far, its my daily. Feels comparable in build quality to Tudors ive tried! Also CW Aquitaine
Rolex dial and seamaster hands 🙌
I like it but I’m saving up for a Christopher Ward…(and another Tudor and another Rolex and another Omega etc etc etc 🤣)
Loving the t-shirt
Great video, bu the links are blank again.
Are we just taking their word on the 300m of water resistance? My Omega Bond is 300m and is pretty thick.
1st time I've ever commented, been watching you since you started, pretty much. Very enjoyable.
Anyways. I BET the case was made by the same folks eho make the cases for NTH! Made the same way!!
Very impressed with how slim it is. I think it looks like every other diver though. Hopefully they produce a more interesting looking watch that thin.
thats one nice watch love it cheers
Good review, just ignore this one the colours don't go at all and unbranded would be better than that.
I know it's a prototype. But, no mention about the bezel being off?
I would say the manufacturer for NTH, which used to produce their first versions of the SUB's (like the Näcken, Baracuda, etc.) has sold the design to Spinaker, as the first gen. of NTH subs is no longer available. I wonder what Cris Weil would think about this...
Couldn’t help but notice your T-shirt. Are you also a techno producer on the side? 😎
Dartmouth has alot of awesome watches
Thanks for the review Jody. I have been looking at this brand over the last few years and manage to find fault with each watch previously. Nothing has changed in that regard, so another pass from me.
Almost bought one last year. Got a Dan Henry instead. I'm glad because now I'll get the 300
I love your t shirt. How long have you been into electronical music?
There's always a little thing missing or something I find to be too much with Spinnaker. I wanted the Fleuss soo bad but the dial texture kills it. It's the N and the lume with this one...
