  • On Friday 30 October 2020 several representatives from Morocco, The Netherlands and the European Union got together online to discuss the mutual interests of an economy based on sustainable energy from wind and solar (Morocco) and green hydrogen produced with these green energy sources. Not only from the demand side but also from the supply side (wind and solar) there's a rapidly growing demand for green energy storage. In large quantities only hydrogen can meet that demand. Furthermore, hydrogen can easily be stored, transported by (for the most part already existing) pipelines and tanker ships.
This provides Morocco with a huge opportunity, becoming a large scale energy producer in stead of importer. Rotterdam, being Europe's main shipping gateway, can smoothly transform from the fossil economy into the hydrogen maingate to Europe.

Morocco is one of the countries that suffers alot from the climate change , think about drought. So Morocco is keen to make the green hydrogen succeed because alot is at stake. I hope Morocco and the Netherlands (EU) will do anything to take advantage of the alternative energy resources Morocco has to offer to make green energy. The Netherlands has alot of expertise (TU Delft for example)
Lets hope this will start soon, i will be following this interesting development.
