Ben Allen Good video I'm thinking about doing Airborne later in my career but I kinda have a fear of heights where my hands would sweat alot and I'd shake but I wanna conquer that fear by doing something like this and earning that patch you get on your uniform
Chris C Work on getting in shape I think thats the biggest thing to focus on. From my own experience the only thing that could really set you back is if you don't pass the PT test. Everything else is easy.
It was a easy school all you have to do is be able too run. Then sent to 82nd then requested special forces school. Both were at ft. Bragg went to sofas passed then Q school, graduated got my tab and green beret, sent to 5th group then deployed to Vietnam for two years. This was 1969.
I'm heading to basic in south Carolina next month, then 68w school, then airborne school. Don't know how I got so lucky but I did. Always appreciate the info!
If you want to know if a military school is actually tough. Check the graduation rate compared to its enrollment rate. If graduation rate is high, its a no kid left behind school.
All you gotta do is be good at running and proper form on pushups. You should also not be afraid of heights which should be obvious but when I went through in 2017 I saw a female Captain refuse in the door during our second jump (interesting she quit after completing the first jump) and they kicked her out with an NTR status (never to return for you non Army folk) and she had to get her orders changed because she was supposed to PCS to Bragg upon completion of Airborne School. So for all you would-be Paratroopers out there just do the god damn jumps and get your wings. It’s a fun and fairly easy course if you don’t struggle with running which you will do plenty of. Most mornings you run up and down airborne hill and it gets a lot of people. The entire school operates on a three strike system. If you miss a formation hit time that’s a strike, if you fall out of a run that’s a strike, if you’re missing a uniform item that’s a strike. Accumulate three of these strikes for any reason and you’re out. Once you get your wings you can now go to airborne assignments for the rest of your career. Everyone without jump wings will act like they don’t care (really they’re jealous because they never got the opportunity to go or failed the PT test), or they will ask you what jumping is like. Go airborne early in your career so it’s out of the way, it’s a big requirement for a lot of good assignments both active and NG side.
I went from 6 ft- 1 in. To straight up 6ft. First jump from 2500ft malfunction cigarette roll in. I didn't check my canopy. Black hats hollered for my to pull my reserve but I didn't know they were yelling at me. Obviously I survived I'm texting. No broken bones and I ran off of the DZ. Ambulance drove past me expecting to pick up a body. My next jump I did everything right, thanks to experience off 1 jump cold beer and 3 big bottles of absorbin Jr.
I have a slight fear/vertigo of heights and made it through. The hardest problem was the 34 foot tower. One can still see gravel and grass. Got through the initial jumping by focusing on my toes. At higher heights, everything is just colors, you can't see gravel and blades of grass so the dizzy feeling is not there as much.
Do they do training any different during winter season? I only ask cause one, I hate being cold, and 2 I know falling out of a plane you get the extra windchill in freezing weather.
I would love to be invited to participate in a legacy jump at Bragg during All American Week. They really should make that part of the program. Once a Paratrooper, always a paratrooper! Besides, who knows, us Boomers may be called up again in time of war. Best stay trained and STRAC! Was in 82nd from '78-81. Want to put my knees in the breeze again with the Eighty-Deuce! Make it so! Get me on Green Ramp NOW! The crazy part is I have actually dreamed of being invited to join a manifest! Don't let me assume room temperature without jumping again!!
I’m currently at fort sill too I’m at 14p. I leave for airborne Friday. For my understanding the runs are like 8:30-9 min mile. It’s super easy. I have a 1700 2 mile. So you will be good just don’t stop
I’m 5’2 and I heard that there’s a reach assessment and I’m worried I won’t pass because of that. Got anything I should know or tips? Thank you love the content man 👍
Made the mistake of going and quitting. Worse mistake and dealing with the consequences. But want to definitely fix that mistake and go back. Do you know if I would get rejected if I tried to reenlist with an airborne contract atttched ? Or am I good to go as long as a slot opens?
Same here man, you may return so long as they didn’t give you a do not return status when you were dropped. Once you’re in your reenlistment window, I’d get the school as an incentive and go back, which is what I’m doing
I have a question! So when you land on the ground are you literally going limp and falling onto the ground or do you try to land on your feet when you get close to landing??
The term is called a PLF, while landing under a parachute canopy, the jumper's feet strike the ground first and, immediately, he throws himself sideways to distribute the landing shock sequentially along five points of body contact with the ground: the balls of the feet the side of the calf the side of the thigh the side of the hip, or buttocks the side of the back Very effective method.
Basically, don't pursue this school unless your MOS requires it. I've seen countless soldiers get seriously injured broken femurs, ankles, backs, you name it. These injuries can be career ending. Sure, you might get a VA disability from it, but you'll have to live with the pain for the rest of your life. Jumping takes a toll, especially if you're in an active ABN unit.
Can I get into airborne with a rod and plate in my leg? Doesn’t affect me at all, no pain, no loss of range of motion. Everything is good. What’s the likelihood of me being able to get into that school ?
That in itself is disqualifying for the army. I recommend going to a recruiter and seeing if you can get a waiver. I can guarantee that you won’t be allowed to do an airborne physical. However exemptions to policies do exist and is how I got in but I didn’t have any leg issues. As long as the etp goes through you should be able to skip the physical. I don’t know the chances of having the rod get waived unfortunately
You won't if you follow your training. The problem today is that they load troopers up with so much gear they literally waddle to the door. That kind of load can cause injuries. Most training jumps are Hollywood (no gear) or light gear (rifle only). They are no sweat. But when you are carrying a full deployment load, you can barely walk. The chutes were redesigned to accommodate that weight but there's always a tradeoff. Just focus on doing excellent PLF's and you'll be fine. Them bitches tried to give me an M203 and I declined. No way I was gonna be able to carry a full combat load and grenades with that thing! Whew! AIRBORNE!
Sal Vargas if you score high on the ASVAB that’ll help you, other than that nothing else is gunna help you get that job, once you get that job then all that stuff with help you with studying and taking tests as a 68w.
Yes you can . I'm prior service Navy and just finished 19D osut and I got granted Airborne school based off my pt scores throughout the training cycle . I start on Monday.
No worries it is a Static Line jump which means that you don't have to be conscience to deploy the chute. Weak exits can cause you hitting the side of the aircraft but you will land relatively safe.
No. Its entirely optional if you can get a slot. Sometimes its hard to get a slot. Best to get it in your contract when you enlist. A lot of career guys take up slots so they can advance.
No. In fact certain MOSs...more accurately certain duty stations make it nearly impossible to get a slot. Like 1st Cav. Took me forever to get out of...whatever the fuck they changed Ft Hood to.
@Ben Allen, would you be able to do another livestream starting in the next half hour for me, please ? I have initernet limitations right now that prevent me from watching your Wednesday livestreams and I only have internet for 2 hours to do whatever I want on Saturday and Sunday Internet use for me during the weekdays right now is for school work only from 9am to 4pm. #CheatCodeAllen

I'm going to be shipping for basic next month as a 68W, what was Airborne School like? I want to put that in my contact too.
Same boat 1 year later lol. 40 rounds

I went right after basic/AIT. Piece of cake! 4/325th 82d Airborne 11BC2. '84- '87. Airborne!
How is airborne on the body long term wise? I want to do 20 years but I don’t want to have aches and pains when I get older
Bro you will not be airborne for 20 years lets say you join at 17.. at 37 you'd have the knees of an 80 year old.. i'm not kidding.
All you gotta do is be good at running and proper form on pushups. I'm 38 out of shape, I should have done this 20 years ago
If you ever have the chance to go, MFF do it. That way you don’t have to continue to get requalification every year with static line. Sucks.
My squad leader just asked if I wanted to go to airborn school and I said yes. I’m a 88H
Ever seen anybody with a fear of heights join, or join to get rid of that fear
Yup!
Jump School was a breeze (11B). If you can't run you'll never get through basic or your duty station.
Do they do training any different during winter season? I only ask cause one, I hate being cold, and 2 I know falling out of a plane you get the extra windchill in freezing weather.
I don’t think so
All I know is that you NEVER GET AN AIRBORNE TAK before you get your wings it's a NO NO.
Went in 1969 1st SF then 307Engr 82nd.Loved every jump.
