It would have been great if they added furigana. That's one thing I like with a ton of Nintendo games, even when they are aimed at a not so young audience like The Legend of Zelda.
Don’t they teach kana on DS9?
@@myytpland Ask Captain Benjamin Sisko
Most might find the lack of furigana surprising, but Shin Chan was the only Millennium Kitchen game to have it, as far as I know. It might feel like these games are aimed at young players, but they're most popular among older players wanting to relive their childhood memories. The fact that Shin Chan had it might be a licensing condition, but that's just a wild guess. Wild enough to propose furigana in a seinen property.
I've thought about the video a few days ago and now it's live! Thank you very much!!
No way you forgot about the Yakuza/Like a Dragon games... Those are way up on the list as far as games set in a realistic Japan. Many locations are recreations of the real-life areas. Aside from that, great vid. I think I'll be getting into Boku no Natsuyasumi for language learning 👍🏾.
Haha yeah I had a momentary brain blank for sure! Totally forgot about that series!
I think my brain was more looking at life simulation in Japan, not necessarily just being set in Japan
I feel that a vocabulary episode on ぼくのやつやすみ2 would be an excellent thing because of the simplicity of the language
bro your content is so good. Thank you so much! I'm learning Japanese with Visual Novels currently and it's SUPER fun! Though I get lazy sometimes and just skip through the text without actually understanding everything. I honestly can't believe what kind of process I made! It just goes up from here o/
Language learning is suuuper rewarding!
Also greetings from Germany o/
Incredibly useful channel, thank you very much for this review❤
Love the game reviews for language learning.

That feature that gives multiple options where one can choose to write the way one wants in the sketchbook is also in クレヨンしんちゃん『オラと博士の夏休み』〜おわらない七日間の旅〜
This a great game for me thanks for reviewing the language is perfect for me. Your the best Japanese language teacher on UA-cam can't wait to see the silver button being delivered
Thanks for the video! I have been on the fence about picking this game up for fun and language learning. Finally decided to go for it along with a copy of Dragon Quest X offline after your video
It looks like Crayon Shin-Chan is the better choice overall, but the diary in this game definitely seems like a more useful tool, especially if you're someone like me who mashes the screen cap button when I see new language. I'm going to download the demo and might import it later on, when the price drops.
Waiting for a Tim Rogers Action Button reference haha
Loved this ever since you talked about the originals on the ps1
i like it!! Wish you make a video for 放課後少年
It’s a shame - as you say, if it had push to continue it could be a must buy for learning. But without it I feel it’s a tricky one to recommend. I like the notebook feature and the fact that you can choose the level of detail/difficulty is a nice novelty, but there’s not a huge amount of content if you just consider the notebook alone.
These 僕の休み style games are so beautiful!
The speech boxes are really OCR friendly. Might be best to watch a lets play and pause to look things up.
But man this seems fun to explore and just play yourself.
Boku No Natsuyasumi is beautiful games, vert relaxing if you able to understand and translating text while playing it,not to mention of of the fella in translantion project already said Boku No Natsuyasumi 2 english patch will be released this year with no delay
Day 1 of Asking Game Gengo to recommend some good Japanese games for android.
Hahaha ive definitely started researching! Ill try my best to get a video on it soon!
@@GameGengo oh thank God, you actually noticed😂, will be awaiting for that video.
You can play this game on a smartphone Yuzu works quite well on modern phones
super excited for this! @@GameGengo
Please do "The complete N5 vocabulary" it will be beyond entertaining to watch
hey game gengo, you should consider playing shenmue series since it takes place in japan
Yesss Natsumon!
Since Street Fighter 6 has a story mode with RPG elements,. you would consider doing a video on how learning Japanese with that game would be like?
Do the 3 different levels of diary entry have any consequences in the game itself? I'm not sure I understand why (from a game perspective) you can choose between them.
I preordered this off the Japanese eShop and downloaded and played it the day it came out, which was a day early for me because I live in America, lol. I was probably one of a very small handful of people outside of Japan to do so. I would highly recommend it! I just wish it had furigana.
Isn’t the Yakuza series a “real Japan” scenario!?
Hahaha oh yeah! Totally is haha just a little bit aggressive Japan haha
When are going to continue N3 series ??
I'm currently working on 3 BIG complete series videos, which will then have daily video uploads for like a year haha
Currently working on Complete N3, Complete Genki 1 and Complete N5 Kanji
It takes a lot of work to make these videos, but just a little bit longer until the flood gates open!
Appreciate the hard work, I really cannot imagine the effort that goes into these videos, waiting for any content you upload :)) @@GameGengo
Try Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town. I think it's good for learning Japanese
Any idea how it compares to Pioneers of Olive Town or the Doraemon Story of Seasons game?
I tried to purchase the game from the Japanese e-shop with my Japanese account but my credit card (a mastercard) Is not working. It says it's becaus the card is from a different country. Anyone knows how to fix that?
Hmm there is always Amazon JP that I know works, but I'm not sure as I am based in Japan.
I can ask for you if anyone from the Game Gengo discord has bought the game!
EDIT: Apparently one solution is to purchase JP eshop cards
Here is a link from Play Asia: www.play-asia.com/nintendo-eshop-card-5000-yen-japan-account/13/705239?gclid=Cj0KCQjwuNemBhCBARIsADp74QSATRxOkHm4P9DMtnA4UH-rKLVFwOoMzD9xlMwJJDkBMFXQ7XdeHnsaApEeEALw_wcB
Thank you so much!!
Could you someday see the game Megaman Battle Network Legacy Collection? Its a bundle with (depend if is V1-V2 or complete) 3 to 6 games that can have they text changed in game to English and Japanese.
Shin Chan had that note detail feature as well! I think I remember you missing it in that video, because I wanted to know what the vocab meant.😅
Yeah i think all the Boku Natsu games do, but this is the first time its adjustable level Japanese right?
@@GameGengo nope! Shin Chan had it too! I think it used baseball-like vocab to describe it.
Yup, it is true for the shin-chan version. It was straight or curveball if I remember correctly.
@@aeriii1764YES! Thank you! :D
Truly a shame that the audio and dialogues couldn't be paused, or rather that they can be paused but then you can't hear the actual speech - which is quite important when there's no furigana! I've tried playing it twice now and I'mma have to give up, even at N4 level - looking into N3 grammar and vocabulary - it's just too hard to follow along and I feel like I'm missing out on quite a lot. In the end it got a little too frustrating with the amount of reading, translating and looking things up.
Gonna give Persona 4 Golden a go next!
I really wish I had a Japanese switch right now D:
You dont need a japanese one. Any switch can play any game from any region.
@@bluebird_979 Oh really? I thought switches were region locked
@@edaumaysol Nope! Enjoy!
