Cool to exploit foibles in one's surroundings. With no place being perfect it may not be the best of ideas to try plugging the gap via different location.

Some people actually have a raspy voice naturally. Though, I'm sure smoking has made it even raspier. But not everyone has a raspy voice because they smoke.
I know this comment is a year old, but I had some thoughts on the matter that I decided to voice into the void of the internet:
I'm also a fan of Alexa Chung, but this is an odd rationalization. I personally don't know any non-smokers who sound like this, but I know plenty of smokers who do. Putting that aside, the comment acknowledging that it's the chain smoking which has caused her voice to sound this way has 4 likes to your 18. Some people have a raspy voice for no reason, but how do you explain the interviews from 2015 onward, where her voice is markedly less raspy? She was a smoker here, and smoking isn't sexy and is regarded by most people as a bad lifestyle choice. However, we all like Alexa Chung, so we experience cognitive dissonance, and your comment gives us an out. We all have this anchoring bias and like to doubt the facts (or, in this case, the probable cause) when they are not desirable.
tldr; Alexa Chung's voice isn't naturally raspy, and this rationalization shows that the fashion world is full of strange, carnal biases which skew our perception of the flaws inherent to our "icons."
