Anatomy of the Scapula
Borders: The scapula has three main borders - superior, lateral, and medial.
Angles: It possesses three angles - lateral, superior, and inferior.
Surfaces: The anterior surface features the subscapular fossa, while the posterior surface includes the supraspinous fossa, spine, and infraspinous fossa.
Processes: Notable processes of the scapula are the coracoid and acromion processes.
Muscles that originate from scapula: Various muscles have their origins on the scapula, including deltoid, supraspinatus, infraspinatus, triceps brachii (long head), teres minor, teres major, latissimus dorsi, coracobrachialis, biceps brachii, subscapularis, and omohyoid muscles.
Muscles that insert on the scapula: Muscles inserting on the scapula include trapezius, levator scapulae, rhomboid major, rhomboid minor, serratus anterior, and pectoralis minor muscles.
Vascularization: The scapula receives blood supply from arteries such as the suprascapular, posterior circumflex humeral, circumflex scapular, and transverse cervical arteries.
Clinical relations: Scapula-related clinical conditions encompass scapulothoracic dysfunction, scapulothoracic instability, scapular dysplasia, snapping scapula syndrome, and fractures.
