OTS: An ATX "Console Style" Case
Вставка

- ATX can be SFF too! This is an open source design you can use to make your own case. The layout works well and I am pleased with the experiment enough to pursue a refined design. What do you think? Would you like to see a "Skyreach" version of OTS?

I really like the idea of ATX in a SFF PC, it's quite an interesting concept. I hope to see more cases with this concept!
Yeah, the Cerberus X is one you can check out...Sliger makes it and I have a video of it on this channel. It's kinda big at 23.4L vs the 10.8L of OTS though. Peace!
@@NotFromConcentrate I absolutely love my Cerberus X, built and traveled with a dual socket SSI-CEB Xeon system for years.
Not only are ATX and mATX boards easier to get a hold of many folks , such as myself, do a ton of budget builds for my own family, kids, and friends where they love the idea of SFF pcs (after seeing all of mine!) but the costs of going small can actually get large pretty fast. So lets say a used ATX board and 65w cpu along with some decently efficient GPU in the 150w or so range and a case like this are perfect. There are a ton of B450 boards and Ryzen 3000 cpus out there going dirt cheap right now with people upgrading and I think those and up to a 3060 or rx 6600 would be easy to cool in a case like this. I also would like to see an SFX PSU option even though the proportions and volume of the case would change. Awesome concept Josh and of course I would love to see it developed further.
I use a sff time natx case! We need more atx sff cases for sure
I've basically wanted this ever since i first got into SFF PCs.
This is amazing and would fit in amazingly well for a home theater setup, especially when you factor it's about the size of DVD player.
I really like this humble personality of this guy, nice video very cool stuff.
thank the gods... have joined the atx choo choo train finally! so welcome!
personally had been on this general layout some years at this point. yet watching your video today has given me even some new ideas still to trt out. its just pretty cool the number of options and ways to go in this space. & looking forwards to any future content on this topic. much appreciated, and for the sharing of idea here, and on your patreon, and on the discord server 👍
ATX and mATX really need more love in the SFF world. Opens things up for more budget conscious builders. Extra kudos for making it open source!
I would love a skyreach version of this case, alternatively I'm interested to get the files and see what kind of custom loop sets could be (if) possible using 92mm rads. Great video as always!
The beauty of it is the files are SUPER easy to modify...so you could just make it deeper and (if necessary) a little wider to support 92mm radiators. Thanks!
Looks brilliant with the dark glass
More than anything, the availability of good atx motherboards every generation makes this case appealing.
Yeah I agree...it can be a pain trying to get good mini itx boards, and many of them you have to strip down just to be able to fit a decent SFF cooler on it.
We need this chassis. This is perfect off the shelf compatibility AND there are VERY few cases for half height ATX. This could also be a cool candidate for a rail kit to mount in a rackmount. Even a smaller one for a audio stack.
Love the use of 92mm fans!
I remember sketching this layout in class and hoping I would one day have the means to build it
Would be nice to see a rigid horizontal version that can support a monitor sitting on top. Like an amiga 1000.
I made a custom build almost exactly like this, except with an eatx motherboard. Making the graphics card flat over the pcie slots is a design I love.
This might a be good solution for a threadripper build that will fit in your carry-on on a plane
Love that bezel!
I enjoyed making it. It was fun. I REALLY didn't want to let it go! I just wanted to hold it and hang it on a wall.
I dig this! I’m in the process of designing a compact case for my Threadripper build so that I can do mobile 3D scanning.
Smaller form factors with ample cooling that competes with full size ATX cases will eventually dominate the market and allow for massive computing power that only requires an outlet. You can just bring a light mobile display like ASUS strix XG17. Now you have mobile desktop power that trumps any laptop.
wonderful concept!
Joshua, dare to make a semi fanless case, in which you can cool the equipment with a Noctua NH-P1 together with an HD-Plex power supply.
awesome
"Console style" seems to change in definition every generation. I mean the ps5/series X are basically larger than an S4M now XD
LITERALLY larger! I have a customer who wants me to put a PS5 in a custom case right now and it's sitting next to my S4M making it look like a hobbit.
This case design almost feels like a natural progression from the Silverstone ML03b/04 or Aerocool QS-101, which gets me excited about ways to create smaller/vaguely cheaper ATX cases. Possibly a bracket(? don't know the correct term) for a Smaller-Than-SFX/FlexATX power supply HDplex or PicoPSU. Would be great for any future Athlons or low end Xeons.
Amazing as always!
Just Love It! NFC.
Might be best to remove the shroud and even the fans from the vantus card and rely on the case cooling instead though it would depend on the fin orientation. I've seen people do similar concepts and having these still on the card can hamper thermals.
This pc case is everything ive been shopping around for and havent been able to find. I hope you produce a retail version
Please make it so i can buy one lol. But make the side panels mesh of some sort so the parts can have better cooling.
Hi Kirk! We can make you one no problem. Just send an email! Or you can take the files and get it made yourself! The files include a version of the side with venting, which you can use if you like. I didn't use it because I found it works better the way I have it as there is ALOT of fans in the front, sucking in cold aid and blowing it out the back and top like a wind tunnel. Peace
i wonder if this can fit 5800x with 3070 without any overclocking. btw, this reminds me the P-ATX from SFF time.
Cool case, thanks for sharing! Here is the link for those interested: www.sfftime.com/p-atx
I love how compact this is, and that I wouldn't have to replace any hardware except for the psu & cooler to downsize.
Wonder if SFF would be better then Flex, though that would require going 43.5mm wider and 23mm taller.....
I was thinking SFF due to available wattage and an ever increasing power demands, the extra size would accommodate triple slot cards and taller CUP coolers but you loose the ultra compact nature of the case.
The other way would be turning it increasing height by 84.5mm which is a bit much, it is 18mm thinner though so it adds a place for a few SSDs
Ah, it likely wont matter anyway small PSUs have been increasing in wattage over the years, and at the rate GPUs are going they won't be able to fit into anything but full towers.
Some designers have been putting an SFX psu in front of the motherboard not long after the S3 MINI was released. This is attractive to some people but there is an issue; sure, you can have 700 or 800w of power in a case that thin, but you can't easily 700w of power; so if your GPU can't cool itself without assistance (and modern 3090s have trouble without cooling over their backside) at end of the day I think something like OTS makes more sense. You could modify it to be wider rather than deeper, so you can increase the CPU cooler and have more powerful fans in the front. The only wrong way though is the way you don't enjoy. :)
Nice case!
it's a beautiful concept but 2 main problems there, the fans on the CPU and GPU will choke even tho u have 4 fans in the front but they too close to the side panel which will choke them and make the air pass on top and the sides and not inside the heatsinks.
i am matts nephew. this is super cool
I LOVE this. Flex ATX, Great airflow, 2 slot full or or half height GPU support. You could use a premium ATX board and have 3 or even 4 m.2 slots. Idea. What about a 1U server heatsink designed for chassis/ front to back airflow? could you potentially run a bit more CPU under the hood?
Take your case.. make it so the I/O is at the bottom.. make it so the cables go straight down a hole in the desk. The front I/O can be just a simple USB A or C.
Having to unplug and plug stuff in would be a nightmare. Dumb idea.
@@evolicious i take it you are the type of guy that does a fresh reinstall of his OS every month
❤️
It would be cool if something had the equivalent of 2U server’s multi-card pcie risers.
I think atx and matx has been neglected in the sff space. If only for the fact the hardware is much cheaper than itx and options are more plentiful. I am just starting to collect parts for a next build. I was considering building a case myself as I find case options limiting, and frustrating. This look great. I joined your patreon and downloaded the plans. I have no idea how I will use them as I don’t have and cnc (except for a 3D printer I don’t have time to use. I have thought about finding a machine shop to make it for me. Always an option I guess. If these go into production I would definitely be keen. Hope you deliver to Australia!
Every time I have checked on you stock of cases it usually sold out. Will have to start following closer. Thanks for your inspiration and all the best to you
flipping up the side panel when laying it flat, then slotting in a 2 huge cards into a tiny case would be such a ridiculous idea that i want to see, pulling out such a thin ATX enclosure out of a laptop pouch and a graphics card box out of a backpack and slapping them together
With utmost respect, are you healthy mr NFC? I feel like you've lost weight... Weight you didn't need to lose? I hope you're well!!!
I had a rough year health wise but I am gaining it back. Thank you for your care
Hmm, I'm imagining a 4x 92mm rad in the front now... I wonder what you could cool with that?
I look at this and all I can think is "when is NFC going to make a 1u or 2u shallow depth (12"-16") server chassis"?
If you want it I can make it. 2U makes more sense for us to design as 1U needs to hold to such strict standards to work.
@@NotFromConcentrate oh absolutely! I know in my network rack I have no more than 13" of clearance depth if I want to have anything plugged in (power, ethernet etc). Then the trick is what board compatibility the larger the board the less space for storage/drives. It would be interesting to see for sure.
The problem with this is that you obstruct all the sata ports with the GPU. I'm running a 5800X3D, NV 3070, 1 M2, 1 slot-in BluRay, 2 SATA SSDs, 1 HDD in a Silverstone Raven RVZ01. It is not the best looking case but it fits all my needs. It is only possible because the motherboard is mITX.
Nice concept!!
Im working on a similar pc case but instead of an atx board im using an m-atx, and instead of 92mm fans im using 60mm noctuas and i’ll cut holes directly over the cpu and gpu fans. So i can make the case even thinner while keeping the parts cold. So is my idea. If you want i could send you my 3d plans. Would really appreciate to get a feedback on it. Especially on the airflow.
I WANT IT I WANT IT I WANT SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLOOO BAD
Is this not going to be a product??🥲
atx boards are definitely cheaper and most of the times have better power componets for less cash, more slots, more options, 4 dram slots... A way to go exactly, but what about M-ATX? Compact board with most of the ATX features
Id love to get a gaming pc case that is horizontal for a decent price
How does it look when placed against a ps4 and ps5?
Without the decorative feet it is eerily the same size as a PS5 optical drive edition.
How many liters?? Dimensions? Deeply impressed!
10x27x40CM (10.8L). Footprint and functionality is king and I think this case strikes an excellent compromise. It runs ice cold, has plenty of air gap for the fans so it is super quiet, and it takes up very little space on the desk. Not all my experiments are worth sharing but I liked this one!
Super curious about that Magewell card. I've been eyeballing that for a few months now too, once I found it. Otherwise I'm angling on a 3x PCIe card ITX build...
Like the case, I love the "as compact as it can be for a given set of hardware" concept
Also, I think Silverstone now has a 600w Flex-ATX PSU
@@MosquitoMade I buy lots of Magewell cards coming from that world before I got into this field. They are great--and the Eco Capture series work really well. I highly recommend them.
@@NotFromConcentrate Awesome, thanks man. I knew that's what you did a lot of before, but forgot in the moment lol I feel like I should chat with you about the upcoming project I'm working on, you might get a kick out of it. I don't know if the economics of the Magewell make sense for me at this point, as it would be inputs 5 and 6, and I'm not sure I need to go that far just yet (I don't have that many HDMI capable cameras lol). But the idea is cool, with the ITX boards with dual M.2 slots these days
@@MosquitoMade Yea man plz do...be nice to catch up. Speaking of which I have alot of your videos to binge on...
@@NotFromConcentrate I'll have to make that happen sometime. And I appreciate it
Very interesting solution! Are there server CPU cooling solutions with suitable mounting, height and directional side flow? and separate the direction of air movement for the front coolers, the top ones are for the CPU, the bottom ones are for the GPU.?
Looks like a ps5 killer 🙂
Could the dual slot gpu be right at the edge of the cpu cooler so the spare space be used for a vertical flex Psu? Would make the case about 80mm shorter
I love this case just what I been looking for can this work with a 3080ti on its sode
The files can be easily modified to make the case deeper, if that is what you want.
Any hope for use atx-e owners? We like small minimalistic cases to! I realy liked this video simple yes but simple is good!
This design would work exactly the same for ATX-E and you can take the files and extend it just a bit and whalla! It would work with M-ATX too but you would lose the ability to have an extra expansion card. Peace
My dude, Isn't this basically what I emailed you about a while back.. I was asking about MATX though.
I got the covid and GPU prices skyrockted... wasn't gonna pay 250-300 or a 1050ti so I let it go, but look here...
Get it down to MATX size and I'm in.
You can take a few inches off the top and have that case; although you lose the extra expandability and the footprint doesn't benefit. But whatever you want is easy to do now that the files are done. Peace
@@NotFromConcentrate
I think you'd still need to change a few things for what I originally wanted. Are you gonna sell this one as is?
How do you feel about the high on cocaine CPU/GPU power draws in the current, and next gen parts?
As much as I love sub-10L cases, it would seem like we're going to need brilliant builders like you to start designing larger, more heat capacitive cases in the near future.
What do you think a ~10L S4M mk2 style case, capable of housing and cooling 240W CPUs, 450W GPUs would even have to look like?
Ekwb custom cooling would be the key here. Would add another $1000 or so, but that's going to be the best way to keep next gen stuff cool.
Well I'm not happy about it...As far as what would it look like? I think this is more towards where it would look like. I dunno if you saw my O6W video but that was the best performing cooling layout I've ever done. Zero problems and it ran better than I expected by a mile and a half. Still quite compact for its power draw. Peace to you.
@@NotFromConcentrate Yeah me neither. I appreciate and support unleashing designers to build further, farther, faster, but not at the expense of abandoning all reason. Lower wattage, more efficient design, fiscally responsible market segments are suffering from lack of update, while the shiney stratospheric benchmark monsters are getting all of the development.
The closest thing to an ITX GPU anymore is still basically a single 2070, or literally TWO 3060/ti cards.
Noe we're being told to prepare ourselves for unheard of power draws, and new, more power capacitive PSU cables, and ATX 3.0 PSU standards that would allow for spikes over US 1600W power limits!?!
Are they crazy!?! How are you going to render the US power grid obsolete for your video card!?!
Obviously the standard is building in basically capacitors to handle the "temporary overvoltages" but that's just opening the door for combined expected power draws over 1600W.
@@NotFromConcentrate I hadn't before now, that is a pretty awesome build though. I'd initially considered a similar build, using a 240 or 280x86mm Monsta rad in the bottom of the Cerberus X, with a mATX or ITX motherboard, but decided on a dual socket build instead. I use the CPU power for virtualization projects, and fully utilize all of the extra PCIe slots.
Sidenote: your full copper S4M is an absolute work of art!
Did the excess copper help disipate heat at all?
@@ReQuiem_2099 No but it excessively dissipated my wallet...
Maybe you could take a look at the Thermaltake Core G3. I got the case, like the layout and airflow but it uses sfx psu instead of flex.
what about mATX?
damn bruh instead of buying this computer shit maybe buy some food man.
