Everyone Deserves a Catie

After experiencing abuse and neglect from a young age, Mialissa entered foster care due to not having a safe parent in her home. During her teen years, Mialissa was always on the run and falling into bad situations. During this time, her CASA, Catie, never stopped trying to reach her, and she found her. This was a turning point in their relationship, as Mialissa trusted her after this.
This young woman participated in Extended Foster Care, which provides support for youth to stay in foster care beyond the typical age limit of 18. Extended Foster Care offers young people additional time to cultivate independence, prioritize their well-being, and successfully navigate the journey to adulthood. Throughout this process, their CASAs stand by their side, continuing to advocate for their youth up to the age of 21. Now 22-year-old Mialissa and her CASA advocate, Catie, have had an amazing journey. Thanks to Catie's extraordinary advocacy, Mialissa not only found stability and independence but has also become a passionate advocate for youth in foster care.
