Pete You Have A Fantastic Station Thank you Pete.
The essence of this poll is not the outcome but what it did for those participating. I think many of us dug into the past to find their beloved live albums again. Some even found new interesting ones to listen to.
And by participating everyone probably became aware what THEIR favorite live album is after all. (Probably none of the two in the finale for most...but that does not matter at all.)
So, Pete, thank you for that. You made my music collection become ALIVE again.
Good point. Upon reflection, UFO may well be my favourite. I do like the Rush Snakes and Arrows tour, some '74 Dead shows, some Springsteen soundboards and Lizzy of course, but I skip the last side of L&D while UFO is essential top to bottom
Couldn't agree more....I have been digging out a lot of the albums throughout the contest....I already knew and owned all of my favorites....I was derailed with the new Hendrix Band of Gypsies release and listened to that for several weeks straight....and now as a result of this final battle matchup and in celebration of this entire tournament I will listen to nothing but Allman's Live at the Fillmore and Deep Purple Made in Japan...the two that should have been the final battle and that are also both a million times better than these two finalists....in my " humble" opinion .....
Me too and all on proudly on Vinyl
Two of my all time fav bands two absolute incredible live albums but cmon strangers for me
Was reading comments and thinking about the winner UFO. The album is magical for all the band members. The late Paul Raymond really pulled them all together. Him and SCHENKER together was so great, even on One Night in Budakan. Long Live UFO. ( Classic lineup )
Nothing can beat that intro: "HELLO CHICAGO, WOULD YOU PLEASE WELCOME FROM ENGLAND, U F O ! " followed by the powerful Natural Thing.
Sooo good no filler
why oh why oh why
is there NOT a film to accompany this
most extraordinary live album??????
a very long overdue ascendance for
strangers in the night.
hello chicago!, wouldja please welcome from england (& germany),
my favorite band of all time,
(well, '74 through '78 , that is)..
"U" know the rest.
@@mikenealon4042
I wondered the same thing! Can you believe they didnt film it?
What a loss for everybody 💔
To me its UFO. Merry x mas Pete and thank you for your hard work.
THANK YOU PETE
we ALL repeat
“Ladies and gentlemen, from England, U-F-O!!”🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Strangers in the Night is my favorite live album of all-time...by far! Incredible music.
I'm a little sad this competition is ending. It's been fun Pete. Thanks.. UFO for the ULTIMATE WIN!!
Spaghetti Lee
Right?
It’s been fun to follow it...
As a Canadian I would like to see Rush as number one
Me too can we do them all over again? I know we can't but...
@@robertsluyter8586
True what about Trumph?
Strangers in the Night is by far the Greatest live album ever!! I LOVE Rush but... UFO's energy is off the chart!! Rock Bottom... Best guitar solo ever! Not to mention the way the keyboards and guitar play off each other!! Its F ing Great!! I am from Chicago but sadly I was not there. Sure wish I was!!
Rock Bottom is great but Lights Out absolutely hammers me every time.. Who doesn't live for the two solos that scream and gallop? My poor ear drums...
This Has Been a Great Contest.....Whoever Wins Deserves To...However I Think We All Owe Pete A Huge Thank You For Not Only This But For Giving us Such a Great Site To Tune Into...So Happy Christmas To Pete and His Family....And From Across The Pond Happy Christmas To Everyone Out There...Have Fun Folks.
Thanks David- Happy Holidays!
Hear, hear! Happy Hollidays!
Have to vote for UFO because that is my favorite live album of all time. From the opening line of “Hello Chicago...” , I was hooked!
Schenker to the max!! UFO has my vote
Glad that UFO made it. Actually slightly surprised that both of these are in the final, despite my love for Strangers In The Night. Strangers is my favourite live album of all time, so it's definitely UFO for me all the way.
UFO!!! music aside it brings back loads of memories
Wow...I'm shocked Made in Japan lost! They were in the lead when I voted.
May the best album win!
As i stated in a previous comment ,I never thought Rush exit stage left tobe an iconic ,legendary live album , Ufo is a iconic ,legendary live album .I pick Ufo for the win.
Strangers In The Night...........40 years have passed and Nothing has bettered it yet!
Well, this contest was a great idea, Pete! It was enjoyable to see it develop from originally just being a one-on-one thing to a full-fledged competition for an all-time favorite live album. With that being said my 2 favorites did not make it, thought Made in Japan vs Some Enchanted Evening would be it. So gotta go with Backup favorite Exit Stage Left. Gotta go with the Prog Power Trio! Simply amazing what just 3 guys can do.
Strangers in the night is the greatest live album of all time but I’ve thought all along it would meet either Made in Japan or Live and Dangerous in the final. Exit Stage Left has really surprised me.
Ian Gillard
Agreed 🤘🎶
i second that emotion
UFO Strangers is the greatest live album in the universe. The live album that all others are judged by. The vote should be what are the second and third.
A big thank you for the competition. It's been huge fun.
A Merry Christmas and a great 2020 to you Pete, and to everyone who took part by voting or posting their comments.
Ps: I was hoping for a Thin Lizzy vs Allman Brothers Band final.
Rush, great playing of course and players. But UFO and Schenker at that moment were golden
They were like a jewel shining in the night.
Burning so hot under the spotlight!
UFO can rock me rock me!
Like many others, I'm surprised that Rush's "Exit Stage Left" made it this far. I honestly think "All the World's A Stage" is a better Rush live album but this competition has had its share of surprises. Regardless, UFO has to be the winner if you are honest with yourselves and have listened to both albums in their entirety. The fact that a band with virtually no chart success has made it to the finals against a band as massive as Rush tells you something about UFO's "Strangers in the Night" album.....simply the greatest live album of all time! There's an odd bit of karma in this whole thing since UFO was Rush's opening act in the late 70's and the two bands got on rather well. There's a "thank you" to Michael Schenker in the credits of Permanent Waves.
Thomas Sharpless you summed it up very well.i think exactly the same as you that all the worlds a stage is the better rush album.anyway let's hope that ufo are crowned the live album kings.👍
All the World's...is much better
UFO is freaking awesome and wins this one. However, I am a firm believer that ABB's Fillmore stands head and shoulder above any contender. Thanks for doing this Pete. It has been fun.
THANK YOU PETE... indeed
Ohh my!.. what a stuff decision!. My beloved best Band off The Galaxie Rush!. Against, my most loved and best live record off all time..!. UFO..
UFO🎤🎸🎵🥁
As bad as I want Rush to win, it's no match to UFO in this match. I am very surprised UFO won this last round, but this tournament was full of surprises. Merry Christmas everyone. Thank you Pete.
Ugh, this is a tough one. I love both these albums so much. I'm giving this one to UFO.
Despite the Maple Leaf on my Passport, I have to go with UFO, close to perfect live album. and one of my choices for the final. To be honest I love the rawness of All The World's A Stage. Thanks for putting this on Pete.
I was at the Rush/UFO show at Winterland on Sept. 24, 1977. With all due respect to Rush I felt as many of my friends did that UFO blew Rush off the stage. I shall cast my vote for UFO.
WHAT a concert
@@mikenealon4042 Yup. I've been to hundreds of concerts but that one is right at the top.
Thank you for sharing the truth. Thankyou
Lots of memories of ufo my band played a lot of their songs back then saw them in a small club in 1976 in Baltimore they were so loud I could not hear for two weeks after they played the club burned to the ground it was called the Latin Casino best show I ever went to Michael was great and PETE WAY was posing as usual
I haven't been watching all the rounds but I'm really happy to see UFO SITN in the final. This has been my favourite live album since it came out. It was a flawless album and a flawless performance by all the band. Lizzy live and dangerous is my 2nd favourite...c'mon Please welcome from England. U F O...
I have no interest in the final, but I do have to say (as many others )that you got us all checking out the record racks be it at home or ol.Great job there!! Merry Christmas to you ,yours and all!
Has to be ufo....can't believe there up against rush.the whole thing has turned out bit strange in so many ways.at the start I thought the final would be ufo against deep purple or thin lizzy.just goes to show the divide in taste.anyway hope that ufo win it as there's not a bad moment on strangers in the night, great set list too,the whole album is classic.
I like to be Rushified as much as anyone but UFO wins this one imo. I can't believe Made in Japan didn't make the finals.
One of the criteria I use for live albums is if they make me wish I was there when the show was recorded. In this case,UFO wins.
Miteyoak Great remark
Both are Outstanding. I'll be happy with either or.
Mogg,Schenker,Raymond,Way,Parker = UFO 🥰
UFO without a doubt !!!!
Really thought it would be ABB Fillmore East and Deep Purple Japan in the finals. Hard to imagine two more epic and influential live albums.
UFO easily for me
I woted for Ufo !
UFO for sure
Strangers...kick ass V shredding rock and roll
Neither one of these were even in my top 8, so I don’t care really who beats who. That being said, Pete, this has been a gag following along and voting my picks and how other music lovers felt about their favorites. I hope you do another show like this one of these days. Very cool. Dan
I'm gonna go with UFO. Rush is very good but this UFO album is great
UFO UFO UFO
Did Not Think UFO was gonna beat Deep Purple as this was a difficult vote so come on "Strangers In The Nights" You can Win...It is my Favourite Live Album
I'm utterly shocked that Deep Purple didn't get to the finals! Same with Thin Lizzy. Definitely going with UFO here, but I bet Rush will win because they're more mainstream than UFO. Boggles my mind how a live album that has fade outs is able to beat all these other raw and real live albums.
Same here when it comes to Deep Purple. Thought Made In Japan would make it for sure.
@@millfred123 Look at the polls. Looks like I'm right.
I am in complete agreement. I thought Thin Lizzy, Deep Purple or the Allman Brothers Band would win.
@@tarakb7606 I'm honestly disappointed they didn't. When you think of best live albums of all time, is Exit Stage Left really one that comes to mind?
@@millfred123 I don't use Facebook because I'm not a boomer though.
All The World's A Stage is the grittiest and rawer live album that Rush released. I really thought it would go the distance.
Raymond Kizer Hood call it shouldn’t be here. Not even the nest live album of Rush
Raymond Kizer oh agreed absolutely..saw Rush in 75 with first drummer Rutledge..time frame and era was awedome
Yes most definitely. All the World's A Stage best Rush album ever!!
by tor & that darned snow dog
is ageless
all the world's meek shoul've inherited the earth
Lynn Robins right on
Wow Im surprised. The youtube poll had Deep Purple winning . I suspect many deep purple fans will be voting for Rush. My vote definitely goes for UFO Strangers in the night.
UFO won by a huge margin on the Facebook poll, so when you add them both up there was a 300+ vote win for UFO.
Hell no I can't stand Rush lol. UFO all day. Rock Bottom!
My number one against my number three, it's UFO for me. Thought it would be against Lizzy.
Going w Rush my first live album..
Love the budgie t-shirt!
This has been a fantastic contest.Pete how about a Champions Greatest Hits Album contest.Sure it would be a Kick Ass contest
Great Idea!!!
UFO. It is the greatest live album ever. I like Rush tho.
Congrats to one of these two. Rush is my pick of these two. In my world, the top five shake out like this, simply because they are the ones that have stood the test of time and I still enjoy putting on the platter:
5. Kansas Two for the Show
4. Deep Purple Made in Japan
3. Little Feat Waiting for Columbus
2. Thin Lizzy Live and Dangerous
1. Yes Yessongs
Merry Christmas to all !!!!!!
Rush!
I just listened to both...in HS, I wore out ESL,,,RUSH...., MY FAV BAND,,,,, BUT, I JUST LISTENED AGAIN TO M UFO, AND MAN ,,, THE SINGS, THE REAL, I MEAN RECORDED LIVE, AND THE SOUND, MASSIVE...SET LIST, LIVE M GUITAR SOLO, ECT, EVERYONE IN UFO ARE ON F ING POINT, MOOG, SINGS EVERY SONG HARD,,,MIXED TO PERFECTION.. THE SOUND AGAIN IS HUGE. RUSH..MAN....THAT SET LIST IS SO GOOG, XANADU, THE BEST VILLA VERSION...ESPECIALLY THE BEST LIFESON LIVE GUITAR SOLO EVER..MAN,,,,AHHH BEEN A SUBSCRIBER SINCE THE ONSET....I LATER, CAUGHT A HUGE UFO BUZZ, LOVE EVERYTHING THEY DO,,,SEEN RUSH 45TIMES...PEART, MY FAVORITE PERSON....SHIT...BUT, FOR THE LIVE ROCK ALBUM....THE SOUND JUST EXPLODES OFF THE DISC....AND THE PERFORMANCES ARE MASSIVE. .I'M TALKING UFO, I WOULD HAVE LOVED TO HEAR A FEW DIFFERENT SONGS,,BUT THIS IS WHAT THEY GAVE US..IT'S LIVE POEPLE,,,REALLY LIVE, AND FLAWLESS, AND LOUD AND CLEAR....IT'S WAS THE CAR STEREO TODAY THAT MADE MY CHOICE..DROVE THE SAME PARTY PARK DRIVE WOULD IN HS, PLAYED BOTH...THEY EACH EACH CREATE SO MANY DIFFERENT EMOTIONAL RESPONSES. ...OK OK, TO ME RUSH IN RIO IS BETTER... COP OUT???? LADIES AND GENTLEMEN UFO. SORRY TO MY RUSH SELF, SORRY PETE, DEEP PURPLE WENT DOWN...LOVE IT...IT'S MEAN THE CONTEST, SO FUN...
What? This is incredible and not what I expected at all. I'm not saying I'm happy about it but it's just if we had looked at this two months ago we would have never thought these two would be the final two.
As much as I love Rush I can't believe people picked them over the Allman Brothers Band. Must be a lot of people have never listened to the ABB.
I couldn't agree more....listening to Allman's as we speak....the choice between Allman's and Purple for me would have been gut wrenching.....
You know what Gino that is a great point. Live from Fillmore East? Cmon. You kidding me? Duane? Better than Rush although should have been an all out Southern shootout maybe. Elizabeth Reed ?Cmon
Bill H No doubt! And if you go with the expanded version you can put Mountain Jam in there as well. Nobody beats the original lineup of the ABB in my opinion.
Rush performance is so great here, but there’s a groove and feel on Strangers that just can’t be matched...plus - Schenker! UFO takes it!
In the spirit of radio, I vote for Rush. It's closer to my heart.
PETE I FEEL BAD THESE CLASSIC LIVE ALBUM BATTLE ARE COMING TO AN END IT'S BEEN FUN I LOVE RUSH BUT I HAVE TO GO WITH UFO GREAT LIVE ALBUM
UFO Strangers in the night, still tops anything and I love Rush by the way ( although I prefer All The World's a stage over Exit, Stage Left)
Absolutely
show of hands imo best rush live
Now that they have slain the Purple giant, UFO will earn their rightful recognition as the winners of this contest. Rush are the better band but Strangers In The Night is THE greatest live album bar none!!
Can’t believe Lizzy went down to Rush.
UFO
Reigns supreme....
I agree and thought Lizzy would win this thing.
Raymond Kizer
Me too...
Over UFO.
i'd play strangers from
hello chicago
to
thank you all very much, g'nite, god bless.
i'd just...
skip to the solos on exit
I saw ufo as Rush's opening act several times, both bands are fantastic live, that being said I always felt that ufo was the better of the two, but to be fair I was there BECAUSE ufo was playing. Still a hardcore fan, so my vote goes to ufo. As a side note, SITN is a stellar recording and a hard act to follow.
at those gigs..
was ANY ufo merch sold??
especially programs.
lights out, obsession, strangers,
programs???
i know the answer
'cause chrysalis records treated ufo like
@@mikenealon4042 no official merchandise was offered, there were the parking lot hustlers selling bootleg shirts. (rush had merchandise for sale though)
It's going to be "Lights Out" for Rush this round when UFO deservedly takes the prize. (They're both great albums, but UFO's SITN conveys more excitement of a live concert experience from beginning to end.)
UFO/Lizzy would have been heartbreaking to pick. This is like another day at the office for Mogg, Schenker, Way, & Parker. There can be only one.
Michael Cottle
Absolutely... I agree.
I was agonizing over that Decision, should it come down that way.
UFO/ Rush was easy.... UFO
I honestly don't think I could pick between UFO and Thin Lizzy
i cant believe allman brothers didnt go to the final - ufo is worthy - the rush album is quite good - but not in the league of allmans / tokyo tapes/ made in japan - im shocked it got to the final - All the worlds a stage is way better!!!
Damn, I knew it would come down to UFO and UFO will win as soon as you started this all those months ago. Sorry never voted on any match ups, don't have Facebook.
You can vote on the UA-cam videos too you know
Exit...Stage Left. In spite of all the late love this band has garnered, we rabid fans still feel like the underdog. Don't discount Lifeson's brilliance here.
UFO!
RUSH. But I love both so I won't be disappointed either way.
Still buzzing over Judas Priest Knockout.
I agree.....The Sinner....!!!!...I'm sorry....but the opening lead riff of Victim of Changes...descending into the ultimate heavy kick ass rhythm....booming....thunderous.....did I mention unparalleled by either of these two....
Going with the 3 boys From Canada!! Exit Stage left!!!
Very surprised that Deep Purple lost if you noticed how far ahead it was in UA-cam. UFO fanbase must be stronger in FB. Rush gets my vote as my 2nd favorite of all time. UFO will win as it is the superior live album, but I just prefer Exit Stage Left because it captures the band right before they transitioned into a style that I feel was inferior compare to the output up to Moving Pictures. After MP, each album began to have more songs that just were not as epic and Geddy had to sing in a lower key. Still, Rush rocked on for decades while UFO, extremely awesome as they were, comparatively a flash in the pan. This being a prog channel, YES should win a best or favorite band of all time contest, or I am living in an upsidedown world.
UFO Completely! Love RUSH but they should NEVER have beaten Thin Lizzy!!
Rush was way better than thin Lizzy cmon man , thin lizzy was good but they didn't have that many good songs. A lot of their songs were boring.
Exit stage left isn’t even the best Rush live album. Made in Japan is the best live album ever imo
For me it will Always be MIJ as the definitive Live Album, then would come UFO, The Allman Brothers Band and Peter Frampton. Not saying Rush is not good, but not in the same category. I love Rush and have almost all of their albums and DVD/BLU-RAYs but....
UFO all day. Absolutely killer lineup of songs performed by a band at their peak. That era of UFO is my favorite band of all time.
amen
UFO - Strangers in the Night vs Rush - Exit...Stage Left? I'm going for ...UFO - Strangers in the Night
The winner should have been Thin Lizzy Live And Dangerous... :)
Judas Priest
Agreed 🤘🎶
Thin Lizzy or the Allman Brothers Band for me.
Live and dangerous or Made i Japan for me. :-)
@ Judas Priest ... Exactly the same for me .
Rush needed to be represented because they certainly did their part to advance the cause of the live album. In my opinion Rush in Rio is their best but I know Rush fans all have their favorite. UFO deserves this. After all these years I still listen to that album.
I hope Unleashed in the East takes number one!!
RUSH!
Rush is my favorite band of all time. They’ve been in that position since I first heard them. I don’t think any band will dethrone them any time soon because I love them so much. However, ‘Exit... Stage Left’ is NOT an album I love from Rush. The songs feel a lot weaker than I expected them to be, the song list isn’t as interesting as ‘All the World’s a Stage’ had, and 80s Rush in general just isn’t my favorite thing musically.
On the other hand, UFO is a band that I have been getting more and more into recently, with Strangers being my favorite album of theirs. I couldn’t be happier to see it in the finals and having won against ‘Made in Japan,’ especially considering how big of an album ‘Made in Japan’ is. I really hope Strangers wins this one but I can’t be too sure of anything. The ‘Exit... Stage Left’ fans are too numerous and too strong for me to predict a correct outcome
Exit is weak compared to All the Worlds a Stage. us 70s Rush is so much better than 80s+ I prefer Hemispheres backwards
Budgie’s live album is the best - not the san antanio one- the 1978 one with myfyr isaac & tony bourge ! Parents ! House Rules! And many many more! U got it Pete? Should be available on CD? 👍🌸♥️
Nobody mentions the cover of Strangers! I bought it for that alone not knowing the band. And then...OMG!
....I guess a lot of people voted on Facebook for UFO....on UA-cam it pretty much stayed at 56 -43 Deep Purple...I am absolutely shocked that Made in Japan is out.....even though all of my favorite awesome live albums were being eliminated one after the other I figured I still would have something great to hang my hat on for the final battle and that was Deep Purple....now I feel totally indifferent..it's hard for me to get into this now with what I consider to be so many better live albums eliminated....still enjoyed the whole shabang......thanks Pete....
There are no better live albums than Strangers In The Night, maybe you should give it another listen.
@@nicholasthornley9708 The following live albums are better..not necessarily in this order......Deep Purple Made in Japan....Allman Bros.Live at the Fillmore....Jimi Hendrix Band of Gypsies....Judas Priest Unleashed In the East....Led Zeppelin How the West Was Won...Kiss Alive and Kiss Alive 2.....Lynyrd Skynyrd One More for The Road.....Johnny Winter Captured Live....Rolling Stones Love You Live....Black Sabbath Live Evil....Blackmore's Rainbow On Stage....Scorpions Tokyo Tapes....Iron Maiden Live After Death....Motorhead No Sleep 'till Hammersmith....Grand Funk Live....AC/DC IF You Want Blood You've Got it....Rory Gallagher Irish Tour '74.....Stevie Ray Vaughn Live Alive....Ted Nugent Double Live Gonzo and Intensities In 10 Cities....Aerosmith Live Bootleg....Rolling Stones Get yer yaya's Out....Johnny Winter And Live....Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush Live.....Mountain Twin Peaks....Cheap Trick at Budokan.....Foghat Live.....just to name a few off the top of my head....

This is not fair!................. Ok. Here goes............. UFO. By the smallest margin imaginable. Pete, don't ever do this to me again! Merry Christmas to all.
Cant believe that anyone beat The Allman Brothers
Even though I was DEVISTATED to learn that UFO cheated (2 songs on Strangers were studio with crowd noise added) my vote has to go to UFO even though they cheated.
Btw they cheated
Where was Angel live w/out a net?
Shoulda been Lizzy v UFO. That would be too hard for me to pick but this is easy. UFO all day everyday.
I vote for Rush because their music has more substance on all registers even if Schenker is a great soloist on SITN
Would have never thought that these would be the final 2. However it's gonna be Rush for me!
UFO. But boy, I would love to have seen Little Feat against UFO.
Exit Stage Left! so glad this made it to finals!
