The actor who played the titular Mummy (Imhotep?) did a great job in his last scene of making us feel genuinely sad for him, despite all the awful things he'd done up to now.
Just wanted to be with his love. Over millennia. He didn’t exactly live in a kind time when he was alive. I love this movie, I love both of them. So funny I watch them every time they’re on network tv, and I own both of them on DVD lol. it’s SO much fun, and everyone is perfectly cast!
One thing I always loved about this movie is the fact that there's no tension between Evie and Rick. There's no stupid misunderstandings, or jealousy because an old flame reappears, they just love each other and work through the problems presented to them as a team. My then girlfriend, now wife, and I saw this in theaters and loved it so much that we bought it on DVD. Time to upgrade to Blu-Ray!
It's certainly not subtle, but the contrast between the two couples at the end (good guys: he yells at her to get out of there, she runs in to save him anyway vs. bad guys: he begs for her to run in to save him but she runs away) is very satisfying.
It makes me feel so bad for Imhotep though since his love for her was literally the reason he ended up mummified alive and cursed. Then he waits 3000 yrs to be reunited with her and then she’s like yeah I’m out, good luck with that pit.
I saw a comment on that scene a long while back that points out the way Imhotep glances at Rick and Evie as if he's making peace with them, seeing their love is true before he lets himself go. The actor played his part brilliantly.
The Gospel, which means the Good News is the news that God Almighty, the Creator came in the flesh as Jesus Christ to take away the sin of the world. The one God is a trinity of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. The Son came and laid down his own life to save ours. His sacrifice on the cross paid the price for our redemption with his own blood. On the third day he rose from dead and offers the gift of salvation and forgiveness to those that repent and trust in him. John 1:1,14 KJV In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and THE WORD WAS GOD. [14] And THE WORD WAS MADE FLESH, and dwelt among us, 1 John 3:8 KJV He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. Isaiah 9:6 KJV For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty GOD, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. John 1:10 He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and THE WORLD KNEW HIM NOT. John 3:18 KJV He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
That's selflessness and sacrifice, the very definition of true love, versus selfishness and shallow desire. And yeah, even Imhotep realized and acknowledged this to Rick and Evie.

I went to this opening day. The only people who could have seen it before me would be someone who went to the midnight showing the previous night. When Evie is stabbed, the person behind us who had been annoyingly talking off and on throughout this whole movie loudly told their companion "don't worry, they bring her back." I turned around and glared them down. I've never been a violent person but I had some very aggressive thoughts that day.
In terms of favourite character reveals, I love the way it's done for Velma Kelly in Chicago, following her all the way from the cab to the dressing room to the stage, but not showing her face until the spotlight hits her. Brilliant.
I saw this in theatrically and I like you was thinking “where is the scorpion king? Why is it taking them so long to see him!” And then when they did finally reveal him I thought “ooh that makes sense, THAT is why they didn’t reveal him till the very end.” That cg work was really really rough. It’s like the CG for the mummy himself wasn’t earth shattering but it didn’t pull me out of the movie. That CG Rock monstrosity though did pull me out of what should have (and could have) been a great final battle scene.
I remember seeing it and the CGI was bad then. Most CGI looks good that the time it's made. Twister had amazing effects, but now some still look decent and some look bad. one of the writers of this movie read in an archeology paper about the battle of the scorpion king defeating the spider king in ancient egypt. thinking he scorpion king was a cool name it was added to this movie's script.
One thing I'll say for the sequel: Rachel Weiss had eyebrows that were 100% better in this one. I had fun with this one and actually found Jonathan somewhat endearing in spots. It's not as good as the first film, but it has its moments. Also, when you said you had been warned to be on the lookout for bad CGI? I mentally snorted and thought, oh, you won't need to - it'll jump up and grab you.
28:55 - Yeah, I agree on the dialog thing. That's also why I like the first more. BUT, I don't dislike this one. It's one of the few times a sequel was done well. Oh and as to the Star Wars point, it's worth clarifying that's all the movies. Basically all of George Lucas' films except for THX-1138 include that plot structure.
I love how Imhotep went from having a no-holds-barred death match with Rick, to give me have a nod of respect after Anck-su-na-mun ditches him inside the pyramid after the Scorpion King gets sent back to the underworld before he himself voluntarily and literally went to Hell. I felt bad for him when he got his heart broken, even if you're a malicious reanimated corpse, no one deserves that.
To be fair to Anck Su Namun, she had just spent three thousand years in the underworld already. That's bound to leave some trauma. Couldn't say I blame her for going 'flight' mode rather than saving her loved one in that moment.
interesting factoid if true:...I once saw in a history video that the oldest known written depiction of a battle was an inscription scratched into the wall of a small cave in the desert describing a battle with the Scorpian King
I ranked my favorite character reveals once. 10) Grace Kelly in Rear Window, 9) James Bond in Dr. No, 8) Michelle Pfeiffer in Ladyhawke, 7) Indiana Jones in Raiders, 6) Rita Hayworth in Gilda (if you've seen Shawshank you know what I'm talking about!), 5) Sherif Ali in Lawrence of Arabia, 4) Maria in The Sound of Music, 3) Jack Sparrow in the first Pirates, 2) T-Rex in Jurassic Park, 1) Harry Lime in The Third Man - this one tops everything else!
As a kid I saw this one first and loved it throughout my childhood. My siblings and I watched that DVD until it was nothing but scratches. However, as an adult now I definitely prefer the first one .
One character reveal that I like didn't actually occur at the beginning of the movie. That one was Michael Clarke Duncan as John Coffey in The Green Mile. Viewers were introduced to how big he was before they finally got to see his face.
I like John Wick reveal because he technically gets three, one in a present time at the start of the film, and two more-- both of them being in a flashback (which is also the rest of the film). Of those two, the first one is based on him being an ordinary looking guy grieving his wife and getting a dog, the next one is with as Viggo (the late Michael Nyqvist), gives the explanation to his son(and by extension then audience), “who” John Wick really is(the Baba Yega” speech).
Well, I loved this one. Like you I did like the first one more. This is the very textbook definition of a popcorn pusher, and not in a bad way! Well, that was a great shanaction. Loved it as much as the movie in question! 😃
21:10 That is the best shot ever. That CGI of the Scriopo King but remember it was early 2000. But 2000 have the best movies and music. I love your reaction.
Best main character reveal in a movie is a toss up for me between Blade in his first movie, and Joker in The Dark Knight...both so damn iconic! As for this movie, I loved it when I first saw it and I love it still. Not quite as much as I love the first one, but it's close. Brendan & Rachel have such great chemistry on screen and they really are, as you said in your review of the first one, a genuine Movie Couple. Both hot af, both talented af, and again that chemistry just sizzles. I also just love Arnold Vosloo and really felt so bad for Imhotep when he was abandoned...it's really all just enough of the same stuff from the first movie to keep it firmly in that fun zone, and enough new stuff to make it stand apart, and it's such a fun watch. Such a shame about the third one, though
Hey Shanelle. I'm Khalil, big fan. I grew up on the Mummy movies. Brendan is a heart article Be sure you do a reaction to Dwayne Johnson in "The Scorpion King" before you watch The Mummy 3 The Scorpion King is a spin-off film of The Mummy and it's where how he becomes a hero and a king
Machine guns (or submachine guns in this case) are really, really good at two things, usually: missing and chewing through ammo like mad. Unless you've got soldiers packed like sardines in cans landing on the beaches of Normandy, you're going to expend 1000+ rounds for every hit you get, generally.
Blade is my favorite reveal. A large room, crowded with vampires. The sea of bodies part to reveal Wesley Snipes. Despite their numbers, the vampires are intimidated. That's how you make your hero a badass. Or... just send in Steve Buscemi to talk up the hero ahead of time. 😂 Honorable mention to the reveal of The Mariachi in 'Desperado'. Fun film.
Despite the bad cgi on the Scorpion King I love this movie. The 3rd one, Tomb Of The Golden Emperor, has better cgi but it doesn't have the same chemistry because Rachel Weisz couldn't play Evelyn.
This is my favorite mummy movie the first one is good because of its nostalgia and cheesy script but i love this one cause they bring more cheesiness and good comedy
They were not as fortunate with the toppling pillars as they were with the bookshelves in the first movie. Whereas the the bookshelves only needed one take, I believe that the pillars required five.
There was a follow up film called "The Scorpion King" which was actually not bad, in a sorta comedic Conan The Barbarian way, thankfully without much CGI.
I think the reveal of Queen Amidala in the Phantom Menace was stolen from a 1935 Gene Autry serial called The Phantom Empire. I also think that's where Lucas got the name.
There's no reason to think that the scorpion king could remove the carvings or had any agency within the temple/city/thing; it wasn't his pad, it was his prison.
29:55 Whaaaat?! They didn't use stunt women?! Wow! I totally thought they were wearing those masks in the Ancient Egypt flashback fight to cover up the fact that they used stunt doubles.
1:42 - You'll get all that: this one for me was right there on the bleeding edge of power-creep, as in almost-but-not-quite-there over the top. Basically, OK.
So weird that in this The Scorpion King is a proper villain but in his own spin-off movie The Rock plays a Conan the Barbarian type hero. Which is my way of recommending Shanelle check out The Scorpion King! 😃
Our internet has been town for three days now and won't be fixed until the day after tomorrow. So I pulled out our old DVD+VHS player along with our old cassettes from our attic. And although the quality is a bit faded compared to what we're used to now, it's been super fun and just a whole walk down memory lane. I almost forgot the point of writing this but we watched the mummy on video last night all giddy. Can't wait for wifi though cause I'm racking up data from watching UA-cam videos on the side...
Apart from the CGI, this movie is a 10. I agree with the girl fight, probably one of my favorite ones in movie, the other one being Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon.
Shanelle, I love your reviews. I especially love your insight as a filmmaker. With that in mind, I recommend you watch RRR by S.S. Rajamouli. I think it would work well for your channel.
@@TheJamieRamone The premise is similar to The Fox and the Hound. Two very different men meet and become friends. However, their differences lead to conflicting goals and agendas. That doesn’t do it justice. It includes a boy-girl meet-cute that belongs in Singing in the Rain, enough drama to match Braveheart, and action scenes inspired by Marvel movies.
The reason the CG of the Scorpion King is so bad, according to Brendan Fraser, is that the team working on it weren’t given enough time to work on it, so we got this. I’m not sure if that’s true, but that’s what he said, and apparently the team has made some really great CGI work so they are skilled and capable, but just weren’t allowed the time they needed.

Also, when you said you had been warned to be on the lookout for bad CGI? I mentally snorted and thought, oh, you won't need to - it'll jump up and grab you.
26:17 - Neither can I, would've thought you'd anticipate those things by now.
My favorite character in these movies is Imhotep.
The Pygmy scene was really memorable and well done.
On a recent re-watch, that part gave me Diablo II flashbacks.
The pygmies were my favorite part.
Them hopping from head to head forcing them under was just so rude. 😛
Me too. Every time I see that scene I want to play Diablo 2 right after.
The Scorpion King CGI is iconic for how it looked and even at the time ppl were like wtf 🤔
interesting factoid if true:...I once saw in a history video that the oldest known written depiction of a battle was an inscription scratched into the wall of a small cave in the desert describing a battle with the Scorpian King
I can’t believe that the kid who played Alex passed up a Harry Potter character role for this!
Kinda glad he did though
5 dollars for the movies back then. I remember seeing the Count of Monte Cristo on my very first date in high school for $5
I actually like what Johnathan brings to these movies.
Well, I loved this one. Like you I did like the first one more. This is the very textbook definition of a popcorn pusher, and not in a bad way! Well, that was a great shanaction. Loved it as much as the movie in question! 😃
23:20 It was about $5 in Houston at the major theaters.
My favorite main character reveal is actually the Delorean from Back to the Future
22:41 Corridor Crew fixed the Scorpion king scene. It’s on their channel from a couple years ago.
So Jonathan learned exactly one thing, then, from the first movie: the hieroglyphic for amenophus (stork).
What hooked me was the reincarnation story.
21:10 That is the best shot ever. That CGI of the Scriopo King but remember it was early 2000. But 2000 have the best movies and music.
I love your reaction.
I think remember it was rush and editors tried their best.
LEGENDARY 2001 CGI on display right here.
Hi. I love your reviews. Your take on movies is so fun, entertaining and smart. I look forward to more.
Loved the first one, this one was pretty meh, except for the girls duking it out! And yes, it was worth the $5.75 for the ticket price in 2001! LOL!
30:40 minor correction, that connects Izzy to Lando Calrissian, rather than Han Solo.
Hey Shanelle. I'm Khalil, big fan.
I grew up on the Mummy movies. Brendan is a heart article
Be sure you do a reaction to Dwayne Johnson in "The Scorpion King" before you watch The Mummy 3
The Scorpion King is a spin-off film of The Mummy and it's where how he becomes a hero and a king
Favorite introduction would be Jake in the Blues Brothers!
If Imhotep had the bracelet on when he entered the temple then his powers wouldn't have been stolen. He failed to realize this.
6:17 - Favorite character reveal in a movie: same as you, Indiana Jones in Raiders.
4:43 Joey's smell the fart - technique
Since its the Brendan Fraser 2.0 revival, I would recommend one of my favorite movies.
WITH HONORS 👍👍
This is my favorite mummy movie the first one is good because of its nostalgia and cheesy script but i love this one cause they bring more cheesiness and good comedy
I am writing this to help out Shanelle and this video and this channel with the algorithm ♥️✌️😘😊
12:30 What!?! I love Jonathan. Maybe that's just because I love John Hannah.
They were not as fortunate with the toppling pillars as they were with the bookshelves in the first movie. Whereas the the bookshelves only needed one take, I believe that the pillars required five.
Shanelle is the best movie reactor ever in the history of the entire world. Thats what I'm saying.
4:29 - I do. And believe me, you WILL spot it!
There was a follow up film called "The Scorpion King" which was actually not bad, in a sorta comedic Conan The Barbarian way, thankfully without much CGI.
Rachel Weis’s character was beautiful
I think the reveal of Queen Amidala in the Phantom Menace was stolen from a 1935 Gene Autry serial called The Phantom Empire. I also think that's where Lucas got the name.
There's no reason to think that the scorpion king could remove the carvings or had any agency within the temple/city/thing; it wasn't his pad, it was his prison.
29:55 Whaaaat?! They didn't use stunt women?! Wow! I totally thought they were wearing those masks in the Ancient Egypt flashback fight to cover up the fact that they used stunt doubles.
They used stunt doubles for the acrobatic parts but Rachel and Patricia did a lot of it. They said they had the scars on their fingers to prove it!
Corridor Digital did a great video where they redid the CGI for the scorpion king to make him look like he should have
1:42 - You'll get all that: this one for me was right there on the bleeding edge of power-creep, as in almost-but-not-quite-there over the top. Basically, OK.
So weird that in this The Scorpion King is a proper villain but in his own spin-off movie The Rock plays a Conan the Barbarian type hero. Which is my way of recommending Shanelle check out The Scorpion King! 😃
And it was a much better Conan movie than the Jason Momoa one.
5:08 - See? Told you you'd spot the bad CGI. And that's just the beginning.
Ive been hearing quite a bit recently of this RRR movie, everyone and their grandma seems to be recommending it. What's the premise?
@@TheJamieRamone The premise is similar to The Fox and the Hound. Two very different men meet and become friends. However, their differences lead to conflicting goals and agendas. That doesn’t do it justice. It includes a boy-girl meet-cute that belongs in Singing in the Rain, enough drama to match Braveheart, and action scenes inspired by Marvel movies.
@@michaelzedd2540 Well color me intrigued! Imma look it up! 😃
0:27 - LOL!! You so adorkable! 😂
