A part of Saraswat brahmins started migrating through the west coast of the land now called India between 1200-1400 AD they settled in Gomantak (Goa) and started practicing trade other than just being priests. The intrusion and forced conversion to Christianity by Portuguese traders around 16-1700s AD forced us to migrated again through the west coast to settle in Karnataka (mainly Mangaluru) and Kerala (mainly Kochi) and it has been another ~300 years since. I am one of the decedents living in Kochi.
Saraswats are also found in Maharashtra.Even though my ancestors are from Goa,during portuguese rule my ancestors migrated to Ratnagiri in Maratha empire.Now i speak only Marathi and little bit konkani and also hindi.We are from same community as Kashmiri pandits

I dont mean to sound immature but there should have been a description given of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji for his contribution for saving the religion of Kahmiri Pandits from the Mughals, though I personally do appreciate the point where u mentioned abt the phase where sikh ruled the land of Kashmir... Yuvraj ji, as a Kashmiri, we're taught the sacrifice of Gurudev Tegh Bahadur, Pt. Kripa Ram Dutt, Sati Das, and Mati Das from our childhood. The reason Dogras did not like Pandits was that the Pandits always preferred and supported Sikh rule in J&K.

+Manveer Sihota --- Yes, although this video is excellent, it is lacking in a few very important events in KP history. 1st one is our association with the revered sikh guru, Guru Tegh Bahadur. I can assure you that he is higly esteemed in the KP community(for obvious reasons). The 2nd important event is when KPs ( specifically, KP leaders such as birbal dhar and mirza pandit dhar) voluntarily invited Sikh emperor, Maharaja Ranjit Singh, to rule Kashmir for us kashmiris. This was the one and only time when kashmiris have voluntarily invited a foreign ruler to rule kashmir for us. As a KP, I do believe that these 2 events are forever etched in our KP history. The 3rd event is when Dogras forceably took over kashmiri even though nobody had invited dogras into Kashmir (kashmiris share nothing with dogras)....When so-called Dogra Rajput (Hurry Singh) had to show his might, he ran away from our kashmir to his jammu like a coward. In fact, Hurry Singh's incompetency, stupidity and cowardice is responsible for the kashmir mess! This 3rd event has had a lasting ill-effect on KPs and is responsible for the suffering of KPs in kashmir since 1947. Had dogras never come to kashmir, today kashmir would not have been an issue at all. Anyway, other than these aforementioned events, this is an excellent video. Great job to all involved...Bravo!

Kashmiri Pandits are the original inhabitants, the root that nourishes the tree, the Pandits that gave India all its knowledge, roots which has nourished all branches of Sikhism, Hinduism, Jainism and Buddhism. If they disappear and Muslims are allowed to take over, then India is on its way to another Pakistan. In the UK, they voted to leave the EU to preserve their culture, India needs to take action in its own way before its too late and their daughters get attacked.

@@josh9742 that is because Hindus don't openly force their wives to convert to their religion. In fact in Hinduism, there is no concept of conversion. Even atheists are accepted in it. It believes there is only one truth but different paths to follow it. And in India, everyday there are 100's of love jihad cases and few no of true love between Hindu and Muslim. We will accept if the Muslim guy doesn't force the Hindu girl in anything but unfortunately that case is rare. After giving birth to some 7-8 Muslim babies, they are abandoned along with the mother.

I'm a Pakistani Muslim. My Great Paternal Grandfather was a Brahmin Hindu Pandit. He Converted to Islam by Being Inspired From it and not Forced. If Some Illiterates Made You Think Bad About Islam, Let Me Tell You That Islam is Perfect and Muslims are Not. Islam is Strictly Against Forced Conversions.
My ancestors where forced to convert but they didn't and now we are out of kashmir they left kashmir centuries ago

After watching this video it makes me think about kashmiri pandits as a suppressed community of hindus with poor administrative and military power in the past... If they aren't then why didn't they retaliated against the atrocities and cruelity against them. Its still going on,they should raise their voice for their rights and also to become tough to tackle something go against them
Think about this. Brahmins are never more than a single digit percentage of any hindu population and pandits are only a fraction of brahmins. How come in kashmir everyone was a pandit? This is none sense. Other castes converted but brahmins feel they are superior to you and me, so they did not. This happened in distant past with bhuddists as well. Brahmin pandits should disown, condemn and show contempt for thousands of years of oppression on other castes by their forefathers and stop peddling lies and using other castes.

Hindus fled from East Pakistan and when some of them went back to claim property and their ancestral land ,they were brutally killed in broad day light.
5.Timur was a Turkic conqueror and founder of the Timurid Dynasty. Timur's Indian campaign (1398 - 1399 AD) was recorded in his memoirs, collectively known as 'Tuzk-i-Timuri.' In them, he vividly described probably the greatest gruesome act in the entire history of the world - where 100,000 Hindu prisoners of war in his camp were executed in a very short space of time. Timur after taking advice from his entourage says in his memoirs :
"they said that on the great day of battle these 100,000 prisoners could not be left with the baggage, and that it would be entirely opposed to the rules of war to set these idolaters and foes of Islam at liberty.
"In fact, no other course remained but that of making them all food for the sword’
Timur thereupon resolved to put them to death. He proclaimed :
"throughout the camp that every man who has infidel prisoners was to put them to death, and whoever neglected to do so should himself be executed and his property given to the informer. When this order became known to the ghazis of Islam, they drew their swords and put their prisoners to death. 100,000 infidels, impious idolaters, were on that day slain. Maulana Nasir-ud-din Umar, a counselor and a man of learning, who, in all his life had never killed a sparrow, now, in execution of my order, slew with his sword fifteen idolatrous Hindus, who were his captives".
During his campaign in India - Timur describes the scene when his army conquered the Indian city of Delhi :
"In a short space of time all the people in the [Delhi] fort were put to the sword, and in the course of one hour the heads of 10,000 infidels were cut off. The sword of Islam was washed in the blood of the infidels, and all the goods and effects, the treasure and the grain which for many a long year had been stored in the fort became the spoil of my soldiers.
"They set fire to the houses and reduced them to ashes, and they razed the buildings and the fort to the ground....All these infidel Hindus were slain, their women and children, and their property and goods became the spoil of the victors. I proclaimed throughout the camp that every man who had infidel prisoners should put them to death, and whoever neglected to do so should himself be executed and his property given to the informer. When this order became known to the ghazis of Islam, they drew their swords and put their prisoners to death."
6.The Persian historian Wassaf writes in his book 'Tazjiyat-ul-Amsar wa Tajriyat ul Asar' that when the Alaul-Din Khilji (An Afghan of Turkish origin and second ruler of the Khilji Dynasty in India 1295-1316 AD) captured the city of Kambayat at the head of the gulf of Cambay, he killed the adult male Hindu inhabitants for the glory of Islam, set flowing rivers of blood, sent the women of the country with all their gold, silver, and jewels, to his own home, and made about twentv thousand Hindu maidens his private slaves.
This ruler once asked his spiritual advisor (or ‘Qazi’) as to what was the Islamic law prescribed for the Hindus. The Qazi replied:
“Hindus are like the mud; if silver is demanded from them, they must with the greatest humility offer gold. If a Mohammadan desires to spit into a Hindu’smouth, the Hindu should open it wide for the purpose. God created theHindus to be slaves of the Mohammadans. The Prophet hath ordained that, if the Hindus do not accept Islam, they should be imprisoned, tortured, finally put to death, and their property confiscated.”

The Afghan ruler Mahmud al-Ghazni invaded India no less than seventeen times between 1001 - 1026 AD. The book ‘Tarikh-i-Yamini’ - written by his secretary documents several episodes of his bloody military campaigns : "The blood of the infidels flowed so copiously [at the Indian city of Thanesar] that the stream was discoloured, notwithstanding its purity, and people were unable to drink it…the infidels deserted the fort and tried to cross the foaming river...but many of them were slain, taken or drowned... Nearly fifty thousand men were killed."
In the contemporary record - ' Taj-ul-Ma’asir' by Hassn Nizam-i-Naishapuri, it is stated that when Qutb-ul- Din Aibak (of Turko - Afghan origin and the First Sultan of Delhi 1194-1210 AD) conquered Meerat, he demolished all the Hindu temples of the city and erected mosques on their sites. In the city of Aligarh, he converted Hindu inhabitants to Islam by the sword and beheaded all those who adhered to their own religion.

Irfan Husain in his article “Demons from the Past” observes:
“While historical events should be judged in the context of their times, it cannot be denied that even in that bloody period of history, no mercy was shown to the Hindus unfortunate enough to be in the path of either the Arab conquerors of Sindh and south Punjab, or the Central Asians who swept in from Afghanistan…The Muslim heroes who figure larger than life in our history books committed some dreadful crimes. Mahmud of Ghazni, Qutb-ud-Din Aibak, Balban, Mohammed bin Qasim, and Sultan Mohammad Tughlak, all have blood-stained hands that the passage of years has not cleansed..Seen through Hindu eyes, the Muslim invasion of their homeland was an unmitigated disaster.
"Their temples were razed, their idols smashed, their women raped, their men killed or taken slaves. When Mahmud of Ghazni entered Somnath on one of his annual raids, he slaughtered all 50,000 inhabitants. Aibak killed and enslaved hundreds of thousands. The list of horrors is long and painful. These conquerors justified their deeds by claiming it was their religious duty to smite non-believers. Cloaking themselves in the banner of Islam, they claimed they were fighting for their faith when, in reality, they were indulging in straightforward slaughter and pillage...”

Alain Danielou in his book, Histoire de l' Inde writes:
"From the time Muslims started arriving, around 632 AD, the history of India becomes a long, monotonous series of murders, massacres, spoliations, and destructions. It is, as usual, in the name of 'a holy war' of their faith, of their sole God, that the barbarians have destroyed civilizations, wiped out entire races."
10.Writer Fernand Braudel wrote in A History of Civilisations (1995), that Islamic rule in India as a
"colonial experiment" was "extremely violent", and "the Muslims could not rule the country except by systematic terror. Cruelty was the norm - burnings, summary executions, crucifixions or impalements, inventive tortures. Hindu temples were destroyed to make way for mosques. On occasion there were forced conversions. If ever there were an uprising, it was instantly and savagely repressed: houses were burned, the countryside was laid waste, men were slaughtered and women were taken as slaves."

Yesterday there was a charity raising event in Hyderabad for kashmiri students . I being a sceptic went up to the podium to investigate the legitimacy of the event and asked , what you guys are doing about “Kashmiri pandits ”? In response I got a 35 seconds threatening stare from the organizers . I felt that the organizers doesn't consider pandits as kashmiri anymore and I committed a severe crime by asking the question . I continued my question and asked about the exiled students and they didn't had any response to that . Government from the past never spoke about kashmiri pandits and that has compelled us to accept never ending grief of our brothers . Their glare and stare at my question was so painful for me that I couldn't resist myself from writing this. Congress has planted it's venomous ideologylogy in our generation and it's our duty now to detoxify our psyche to make our nation great again . This vicious ideology can not sustain in a social networking era and I believe I will get support on this from Patriots . Jai Hind jai Bharat

Being a Saraswat, today I hang my head in shame...in knowing what our forefathers went through in Kashmir. Many Saraswats who fled from Kashmir then and settled in various parts of Maharashtra...Goa. Maharashtrian Saraswats ( Chitpavans, Karads) speak Marathi and Goan Saraswats Konkani. But the ones who settled in Goa during the reign of Kadamba dynasty later sufferred similar persecution in the hands of Portuguese (Goan Inquistion). Thus Konkani speaking Saraswats of Goa (GSBs, RSBs, Chitrapur Saraswats) migrated further down to Karnataka and Kerala. Today Saraswats irrespective of language and allegiance to schools of thoughts (Advaita, Dwaita) must unite. Probably our Saraswat community are among the most tolerant yet highly persecuted community ever since about 5 milleniums. Thanks to our lineage from Rishis..that we survive and are flourishing today. Our Pandit brothers who are still in Kashmir today need to saluted for their dedication.
