    I have been using Linux Mint for the past 8 months under VirtualBox 5.04 hosted by windows 7 for internet,audio ,video download upload useage etc..,and accessing the Windows C: drive and open any document that is shown on Mint screen, it is opening the file without any error message like Word file or PDF,audio,video etc..17.2 comes with Drive encryption and Virtual box also comes with Encryption for VBox ,so multilevel encryption..All working Fine. Good work form Link and VBox Community.

    I have a minor but annoying glitch with 17.2, where the mouse cursor doesn't quite line up with what's highlighted in certain menus. I'm wondering if it's something to do with the nVidia driver.

      Maxxarcade Weird. I haven't seen anything like that. I'm using Intel drivers on one machine and AMD on another and it seems to be working quite well. Have you tried tweaking the mouse settings? :)

    I like ogg more, because by using ogg I support a free/libre format. And pretty much everything these days play ogg, so it's not an inconvenience. Also, the sound quality as well as compression rate are the same.
    I'm not strictly against proprietary software (not yet at least), but if I can support free software (or formats, etc.), I like to do so.

    Joe, I hope you read this. I heard your assessment (on another video, closed comments) of the Linux world. I was surprised to hear, someone finally agrees with me. The principal figures in the Linux world are not serious about challenging the Microsoft monopoly. If the were, they would be making the product easier to install (and unintall). There is nothing really wrong with dual boots. Linux takes up little room and the two installations can be kept completely separate. But who wants to open to the GRUB loader?
    I have dual boot and it doesn't bother me much. But it would bother a lot of people. I saw a video with instructions on how to move the dual boot to the Windows boot page and make Windows the default system which will open automatically. I'm a pretty advanced user and I would attempt to follow those instruction. One typing mistake and you might have mess on your hands.\
    Linux is never going to compete unless the Luinux developers make installation entirely automated. I don't think they care. To them, Linux is just their private universe. The high end consultants who create custom installations for businesses obviously don't care either.
    Linux has been around how many years now without making a dent? In general, I won't install a Linux app that doesn't install automatically. I've done a couple of things that require writing two or three commands and made it work. I won't go past that. No normal person will. The Linux community has to fight back. Wasn't that the idea in the first place, upset the Microsoft monopoly?

    I'm having trouble w/LM 17.2 cinny AND UA-cam. When I go to watch any video and press the expand full screen button (bottom right of UA-cam viewing screen) my system completely crashes to the point where I have to press Ctrl+Alt+Esc to reboot the desktop. It's driving me crazy and might be saying goodbye to LM because of this. I've had MUCH better experiences in LM Xfce but might move to Arch with the Cinny DE. I like cinny but am sooooooo frustrated with LM.

    Mint 17.2 Cinnamon seemed laggy to me, should I have disabled something? I needed to repartition so I put Lubuntu 14 on this thing. Part of me really wants to use Mint but I like the idea of using the same OS on new and oldish machines. So much more to learn still. I need a file manger with proper tree view and I can't figure out how to mount my files partition as home.

    How come a Mint installation will have square icons for e.g. Chrome or Chromium? Also for Firefox, a very different icon. Can you get it to show normal round icons (when they are normally round)?.

    • @EzeeLinux

      That's the way the icons are styled. You can choose a different set of icons in Themes. :)

      Joe Collins Alright, thanks :). I have here a Kubuntu system with newest Cinnamon and it has a round Chromium :P. I have a Mint 18 system with the same, and it has a square Chromium :P. Really don't want it, heh; ....and the Firefox icon (the square one) is just incomprehensible, weird thing that looks like a joker. Thanks :)!.

      +Floow snaake Yes, Linux will run on almost any personal computing device that you could possibly imagine, and either of the "lighter" distributions of Mint should run well on most "legacy" laptop/netbook computers.

    Great video but it will be helpful to tell people which Mint "distro" you are running, cinnamon here I believe. There are 4 versions of Mint 17.2 I think. I use the KDE edition on my main computer on an OCZ ssd and it's super fast. I suggest after a clean install to check the info from the "Easy Linux tips project" about the 10 things to do after installing Mint and their excellent tips about SSD optimization for Mint 17.2.
    Imagine those OS are made by thousands of world wide programmers simply for the benefit of the community and all for free. If I had some cash, I will dump it at the Mint dev. team just to make sure they can continue their awesome work. Long live the Opensource movement ! Btw I find windows 10 so childish now.

    I need some help. After watching your video, I went and downloaded kden live, through the synaptic package manager. So far so good. I got it to capture some video from my Firewire camera, what turned out to be about 1 GB of raw footage (the capture files are humongous!). The sound suddenly went bad so I tried to stop the thing, and it flashed or glitched and finally came back silent. It took me a while to get it to capture again, but I was able to and this time it worked, again, making a short but huge 1 GB or so file.
    Since I am running this on a persistent bootable USB stick, that was just not a good option, better to use Windows Movie Maker on my Hard Drive. So I dumped kden live. Only I was down 2 GBs of file space. I figured, it was the video file. So I found the folder kden live had made and deleted it. This got me 1 GB back, but the other 1 GB (from the first capture??) won't come back. I've cleaned the USB following several methods I found on the net.
    I'm pretty confident there is a .avi file somewhere on my system, but I cannot find it. I think that is what is eating the space.
    What would you suggest? I've done Bleach Bit, Orphaned files, I tried to se4arch for *.avi but the system just goes on and on and on.

    • @EzeeLinux
      @EzeeLinux  9 років тому

      ***** A persistent USB stick with a live image on it is not the same as running Linux naively and not all of the same rules apply. Programs that require a lot of resources just are not going to work like they're supposed to. You can look in /tmp and the .local/tmp directory in your home folder. That's usually where temporary files are kept. Do a full reboot of the system. Temp files are cleared when the system shuts down unless Kednlive has stuck a file somewhere else. If that's the case, you may never find the offending file. Don't assume it will be an AVI, either. Kdenlive may have stored it as raw binary. You could do a search by size and look for any file larger than 512 MB. That'll track it down, I bet. Good luck! :)

    Have you tried using 17.3? Since 17.3 is out and the Update Manager can update you to it easily, I don't see why you really need to keep 17.2. You even did a video on it.

      Bleachbit is a very powerful tool that you don't need. You can trash a system easily with it if you don't understand what you're doing.

    Disto Watch has little "if anything" to do with "reality" when it comes to the actual number of end-users, as it's a site visited by "Linux enthusiasts" and little "if anyone" else. Google+ is roughly a "bazzilion" times more popular, and Ubuntu has more Google+ "followers" than does Linux itself, and "as you can see" Linux Mint and Debian are not even remotely close to it.
    Ubuntu 244,464 followers, Linux 186,204 followers, Linux Mint 19,974 followers, Debian GNU/Linux 13,605 followers.

      +Joe Collins Agreed, your actual "statement of fact" that "How To Install Ubuntu 14.04" is your most highly viewed video, might be more telling than what I pointed out.

    If all the game publishers would jump on the Linux band wagon I would consider switching.

    • @EzeeLinux
      @EzeeLinux  9 років тому

      vidprowler Why switch when you can have both? There are a ton of Linux only games to discover. :)

    • @vidprowler
      @vidprowler 9 років тому

      Joe Collins I understand your point. But, for Linux to succeed, the community behind it needs to grow up and start forging relationships with software and hardware vendors. For instance, my creative labs sound blaster Z is not supported in Linux. I agree with you in that Linux Mint is very nice and polished. Anyway, please do not mistake this for an attempt to argue with you and give you a hard time. This is just my opinion as an IT professional with 30 years experience. Keep up the good videos.

    • @EzeeLinux
      @EzeeLinux  9 років тому

      vidprowler Oh, I understand what you're saying however it's really a simple matter of people telling the publishers that they want the game for Linux. The more people make their voices heard, the more support from developers for Linux you'll see. There's a lot going on right now with hardware integration and support. System76, Dell and several other manufacturers are selling preloaded Ubuntu machines. I'm not one to complain if some peripheral or card won't work with Linux. I just get one that does and move on. :)

    • @vidprowler
      @vidprowler 9 років тому

      Joe Collins I hear ya. You never know, with the way Microsoft is screwing up these days, that may push things.
      I still agree with you about Linux Mint.

    I think ssh is underutilized for file sharing. It's a lot faster than samba on linux, even with encryption; and you can use it through your file manager the same way as samba. Nfs is too special purpose I think. Good for what it's designed for but not so much for ad hoc file sharing.
