  • In this 9 part series, we cover everything you need to know in order to make successful left and right turns.
In this beginner series, we do not cover how we handle traffic signals such as lights, but the fundamentals of making a successful turn. Often times, these basic steps are not taught or learned correctly initially and it can cause unnecessary confusion and frustration for new students as they progress in their journey to become confident and competent drivers.

Thank you! This video is just what I needed! I tried learning with my dad but it is so stressful since he’s always getting mad 😅

YOU ARE THE ONLY ONE THAT EXPLAINS TO ME THE BEST ABOUT HOW THE STEERING WHEEL WILL REACT WHEN I LET GO AFTER TURNING IT 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

I need teachers who are calmly teaching this way, thank you so much(!) I truly appreciate this. I was struggling with the very common beginner "milking it" method, where you're turning & turning to get to that intended grip lol, to make a turn. And when we survived it after (light joke), but after having made the turn, I would be on the wrong side of the road... instead of the right lane, since I struggled to keep the car straight.
It was because of speed, either going too slow to help manually set the steering wheel, and my instructor wouldn't even call this out. Or I would go the 10-15 mph+ & still not know to allow it to slide (my first instructor taught me this perfectly & stated the curves, k-turns & parking I was doing was perfect because of his calm instructing- someone else taught me my second time around & it was not with the result of learning how to do hand-over-hand nor how to properly straighten the vehicle's front wheels/steering wheel after making turns-I got home with a minor headache from all the steers we did).
This video truly clarified everything, and helped, as I needed to grasp. Thank you. I'd be taking my first practice steering drives with my dad- as it'd provide me more quality time to practice.

Zula, someone told me I can not let the wheel slide back to centre. It is okay right? You don't have to turn it manually back to straight for the test right?

So go about 23 miles per hour for it to work I was trying to get a good look at the dashboard to see lol?

    Key takeaway:
Wheel goes back itself if right speed is maintained
Control with palm friction how fast wheel comes back to centre

Shouldn’t you straighten it manually with your hands?

this would help if the thing im trying to fix wasnt what youre doing. you shouldnt let go of the wheel, i need help with straightening the wheel without jerking the car around while holding it. this wont pass on the test

Hi there, yes you're right, you wouldn't want to let go of the wheel completely. This was primarily done for demonstration purposes to show that the steering wheel does come back to (almost center) given the vehicle has an appropriate amount of speed. If you've mastered let the steering wheel come back to center without a problem, then you'll just have to lighten your grip on the steering wheel when it's unwinding, almost as though it's sliding in the palm of your hand. Hope this helps.

This is power steering that's why automatic turning. if not power steering how can I manage? Because in some learners centres not available power steering only old module.

All cars straightens their wheels automatically at the right speed.

It's not about power steering. It's the natural way of your wheels forcing the whole steering system to get back in its place

Oh, likely going too fast while the car is unwinding itself likely is my issue, when with my instructor, so I tend to brake or slow down, and then continue. It's a learning process at first, 😅😂😂 but once getting it done, it surely gets better. Watching videos now before taking my practice drive with my parents for the first time, let's just say we're likely all quite hoping for the best, but calmly going to be going slowly and returning my mind to clarity. 😹😹
