I've been looking for a smidge more powerful card than the 4090 for VR it seems the only option I have this iteration is Nvidia since AMD isn't making anything close to high end.

7900xtx can't handle RT or PT but a 4080 totally can. And the 5080 will be stronger than the 4080 plus with the AI tech it will be leaps apart from AMD. They are just cooked for right now. And they better pick up the slack by either showing that pure rasterization power at an affordable price is still possible or they beat NVIDIA in the AI department.
I saw a 9070 xt in a yt video that had three 8 pin connectors which led me to believe it must be xtx or greater. I still have a dream of setting up an AMD only build one day but I feel you bro. That 5080 does look nice.
The last Nvidia card I had was the 20 series, and for the time I had AMD other than when it got OpenGL drivers (which was great, Minecraft got a massive FPS boost) but it broke a few of my games for a few months. There was a Adrenaline Relive bug with AV1 that delayed the audio/video and had a weird speed ramp, and uh.. I think that's the only issue I had for the 4 years on AMD. They're definitely slower with driver updates compared to Nvidia, makes sense as Nvidia is a huge company compared to AMD. Ultimately, if I was recommending a GPU to others it would be AMD since the GPU has the performance especially in the low end.
If Nvidia GPU's don't give you the more natural subtle look that a AMD GPU delivers, no amount of Nvidia GPU power is going to make you truly satisfied.
I actually think with rdna4 and Fsr4 the 9070 xt will perform better than most people expect. Maybe going from your xtx to the new xt won’t be such a ‘downgrade’ after all

The new 5000 series cards is a nothingburger actually. The only new thing they got is ddr7 ram and more "AI" cores. The wholeheartedly relay on dlss 4 and the new frame gen.
I see no reason for anyone with a last gen card to upgrade unless you’re using it for your actual career in productivity or development then grab a 5090 for the vram. But for gaming, it’s all software tricks. I’ll be upgrading both my PCs because I skipped last gen, so I’ll be moving from a 3090 to a 5090, and a 6800XT to a 9070XT. But I usually skip a gen, so this is normal behavior for me, not FOMO.
I think the naming schemes put people off.... If AMD just launched a card called "AMD 1" and it was their only card and it was a £500 4080 killer with FSR4, everyone would go mad for it. Like everyone went mad for the 480/580 cause it had 8GB and it turned out that card can still get you by at 1080p today. However the naming scheme they have is confusing and no one knows what the hell to buy. I do not think they should target the high end though, they make APUs..... so make an Apple M1 killer. That is where the money is.... The M1 was so good! It was high end, cheap, energy efficient and no one else could compete with it for years.
nvidia showed the 5080 at 1000$ and that meant that my recently purchased 1048$ 7900xtx was immediately getting refunded so i can buy a 5080 fe for cheaper than my 7900xtx.

You can push more frames using 9070 xt with balanced or performance fsr4 over fsr3 quality on the xtx. Watch fsr4 performance look better than fsr2 and 3 quality. The lack of ai on the xtx really has let that card down. Its outdated tech at this point. The 9070 is the better card and if its $600 or under...oh man. Dont even think you need the 5080..the 9070 will be a monsta.

AMD screwed up for me. I switched from a 2080ti to a 7900XT. I didn't get an XTX because it was close to the next generation. AMD should offer an XTX card to equal the 4090 for $1K. That is their niche. I got tired of Nvidia updating drivers every time I touch my computer for COD and Fortnite crap.
I feel ya about amd forcing your hand. Microsoft ended support for my cpu with win 11 which gave me an excuse to build a new pc. Sure I could run a work pc with no patch support but why would I and now I sit looking at my new fish tank with a soon to be current gen gpu. There are only happy accidents right?
conspiracy theory: Nvidia deliberately didn't make the 5080 significantly more powerful than the 4080, 4080 super or 7900xtx because they knew that AMD wouldn't release a card in this segment so the "90 class" will receive a 30% boost while the 80, 70, 60?, 50? will receive a smaller 10% increase in power from generation to generation
The rtx 5080 has only 16 GB Vram and that isn't enough for existing games like indiana jones and the great circle in 4k path tracing with frame gen, not to mention upcoming games witch will be more Vram hungry. If the rtx 5080 had 20 GB Vram or more, that would be great, or if AMD had some gpu on the high end this generation with the better ray tracing, there would be no need to buy the 5080.
The focus is all on UDNA I think. Both companies seem to be doing something akin to console refreshes this generation. Like the 5090 is an overpriced ps5 pro. Next gen when the AMD chiplet method they use in cpus fully matures in their gpus, we may get something special. 2027?
The 5070 is like a 4090 so thats all I'd need, right? Nope. I want budget friendly cards and Nvidia does not offer that. I am not dogging Nvidia for the way they manipulate the market, its what they do.
The money is yours and you can buy whatever you want, but just don't buy something if you think that it will not make you happy enough. You were not happy enough about the 4080 that you had, try to make sure the same thing won't happen if you buy the 5080.
Honestly, I would just sell the XTX and get a 5090 (if you can find it at or near MSRP) rather than keeping both the XTX and a 5080. With a 5080, you'll probably just end up with FOMO next generation again. But a 5090 should be more than stupidly powerful enough to hold you over until RTX 7000, unless they release deep learning hand jobs with the RTX 6090.
This, NGL makes the most sense. A 5090 would kill both the 5080 and the XTX you have by far and what ever issues you have will pan out then i think you will see, Look at the benchmarks between the XTX, 5080 vs 5090 but i believe the 5090 will take you where you wanna go the most with what your trying to do and where your coming from. I know you like AMD but make your upgrades worth it and make them count.

I'm also disappointed that AMD doesn't have something higher end coming soon. I do think I understand their reasoning, though. They historically do better at that mid-range bang for buck market as opposed to high end. However! That doesn't mean that a 9080 or 9090 won't come at some point. I honestly do think they will when they're either satisfied or feel that FSR4 is refined enough to do so. I'll be going high end... though not 5090 high end as I just sadly don't have 2k to blow on a GPU. It'll either be a 7900XTX (more likely) or a 5080 (less likely because I'm sure they'll be scalped to fuck). I don't want nvidia to fail so much as I want AMD to succeed. Competition and choice are important and if nvidia is the only game in town then we're all kinda screwed.

I used Nvidia 3060, 3080, 4060ti, AMD 6600xt, 7700xt. Nvidia is miles ahead. no debate at all. Best you trust nvidia and buy whichever 5000 series you want. I'm going for 5080 too, or maybe 5070ti

The AMD the self coment on this and for now they need to fine tune fsr4 on rdna4 so its gonna run great, but they been askednif its possible to run fsr4 can run at Rdna3 and they answer was yes and no well yes it is possible but they dont know IF they can optimized fsr4 that well so its gonna run on 7000series cuz fsr4 need shit load of computing power and that is main issue. I am skipping this generation. I use lossless scaling for x4 frame gen with my 7900xtx as well as a 3070ti. My 7900 renders my game at 100% usage meanwhile my 3070 is generating frames for it. I am using 100% of my 7900 and about 90% of my 3070, and i am able to get well over 350 fps on max settings ultra super sampling in helldivers 1440p. No need to pay greedy nvidia for frame gen, just do what im doing and stick it up theirs by using one of their older cards to run lossless on to boost an amd card. And all for what like $7 for lossless? Also they have up to x20 frame gen now xD. Its useless but its cool that im able to get 1500 fps max settings lmao
I used AMD and Nvidia's gpu before and let me say, Nvidia is miles ahead. AMD is good but just unreliable if you are really thinking of long term or the future. They just can't handle as well as Nvidia did. Although i really wanted AMD to do well but truths will play out by itself, that they are not at Nvidia's level. I enjoyed far more with Nvidia

Shoudve kept that 4080 super. You can see it now glad you do. 5080 may not be a big enough upgrade esp since it gets almost all dlss updates. 7090xt is an upgrade from your xtx , that card is going to be very good. Used both Nvidia and AMD graphic cards and Nvidia still beats AMD. Not even a close competition i would say. Longevity, adaptability, quality, building for future are attributes that have to be considered as well, not just a 10 second video gaming screen with fps at the top corner. The experience would deteriorate when i used AMD. Nvidia just do the things AMD can't.

There was no reason not to produce a 7900 class card if nothing more than to competing with the 5080 with more VRAM.
If Nvidia GPU's don't give you the more natural subtle look that a AMD GPU delivers, no amount of Nvidia GPU power is going to make you truly satisfied.
I actually think with rdna4 and Fsr4 the 9070 xt will perform better than most people expect.

I'm mostly interested to see how good AMD's ray tracing and FSR 4 is on a 400-500 dollar card. Thats much more exciting that a 2000 dollar 5090 or 1000 dollar 5080 with only 16gb
The new 5000 series cards is a nothingburger actually. The only new thing they got is ddr7 ram and more "AI" cores.

I see no reason for anyone with a last gen card to upgrade unless you’re using it for your actual career in productivity or development then grab a 5090 for the vram. But for gaming, it’s all software tricks. I’ll be upgrading both my PCs because I skipped last gen, so I’ll be moving from a 3090 to a 5090, and a 6800XT to a 9070XT. But I usually skip a gen, so this is normal behavior for me, not FOMO.
I think the naming schemes put people off.... If AMD just launched a card called "AMD 1" and it was their only card and it was a £500 4080 killer with FSR4, everyone would go mad for it. Like everyone went mad for the 480/580 cause it had 8GB and it turned out that card can still get you by at 1080p today. However the naming scheme they have is confusing and no one knows what the hell to buy. I do not think they should target the high end though, they make APUs..... so make an Apple M1 killer. That is where the money is.... The M1 was so good! It was high end, cheap, energy efficient and no one else could compete with it for years.
nvidia showed the 5080 at 1000$ and that meant that my recently purchased 1048$ 7900xtx was immediately getting refunded so i can buy a 5080 fe for cheaper than my 7900xtx.

Instead of buying all those other GPU's, just buy a 5090 and be done with it. You can run an AMD 9800X3D CPU for your AMD loyalty. Get a nice 4k monitor and enjoy the show.

You can push more frames using 9070 xt with balanced or performance fsr4 over fsr3 quality on the xtx. Watch fsr4 performance look better than fsr2 and 3 quality.
The lack of ai on the xtx really has let that card down. Its outdated tech at this point.
The 9070 is the better card and if its $600 or under...oh man.

AMD screwed up for me. I switched from a 2080ti to a 7900XT. I didn't get an XTX because it was close to the next generation. AMD should offer an XTX card to equal the 4090 for $1K. That is their niche. I got tired of Nvidia updating drivers every time I touch my computer for COD and Fortnite crap.
I feel ya about amd forcing your hand. Microsoft ended support for my cpu with win 11 which gave me an excuse to build a new pc. Sure I could run a work pc with no patch support but why would I and now I sit looking at my new fish tank with a soon to be current gen gpu. There are only happy accidents right?

conspiracy theory: Nvidia deliberately didn't make the 5080 significantly more powerful than the 4080, 4080 super or 7900xtx because they knew that AMD wouldn't release a card in this segment
so the "90 class" will receive a 30% boost while the 80, 70, 60?, 50? will receive a smaller 10% increase in power from generation to generation

The rtx 5080 has only 16 GB Vram and that isn't enough for existing games like indiana jones and the great circle in 4k path tracing with frame gen, not to mention upcoming games witch will be more Vram hungry. If the rtx 5080 had 20 GB Vram or more, that would be great, or if AMD had some gpu on the high end this generation with the better ray tracing, there would be no need to buy the 5080.

The focus is all on UDNA I think. Both companies seem to be doing something akin to console refreshes this generation. Like the 5090 is an overpriced ps5 pro. Next gen when the AMD chiplet method they use in cpus fully matures in their gpus, we may get something special. 2027?

The money is yours and you can buy whatever you want, but just don't buy something if you think that it will not make you happy enough. You were not happy enough about the 4080 that you had, try to make sure the same thing won't happen if you buy the 5080.
Honestly, I would just sell the XTX and get a 5090 (if you can find it at or near MSRP) rather than keeping both the XTX and a 5080. With a 5080, you'll probably just end up with FOMO next generation again. But a 5090 should be more than stupidly powerful enough to hold you over until RTX 7000, unless they release deep learning hand jobs with the RTX 6090.
That's what I plan on doing. With pure raster the 5090 is going to last minimum 3 generations. I have a 7900XTX.
This, NGL makes the most sense. A 5090 would kill both the 5080 and the XTX you have by far and what ever issues you have will pan out then i think you will see, Look at the benchmarks between the XTX, 5080 vs 5090 but i believe the 5090 will take you where you wanna go the most with what your trying to do and where your coming from.
I know you like AMD but make your upgrades worth it and make them count.

I'm also disappointed that AMD doesn't have something higher end coming soon. I do think I understand their reasoning, though. They historically do better at that mid-range bang for buck market as opposed to high end. However! That doesn't mean that a 9080 or 9090 won't come at some point. I honestly do think they will when they're either satisfied or feel that FSR4 is refined enough to do so.
I'll be going high end... though not 5090 high end as I just sadly don't have 2k to blow on a GPU. It'll either be a 7900XTX (more likely) or a 5080 (less likely because I'm sure they'll be scalped to fuck). I don't want nvidia to fail so much as I want AMD to succeed. Competition and choice are important and if nvidia is the only game in town then we're all kinda screwed.

DLSS 4 will look amazing
DLSS 3 looks great already in the performance modes at 4K, so that's how i've been using with path tracing games and you get like a 60fps before you turn on FG in even the heavy games like Cyberpunk on an 4080 Super at 4K

As someone who has a 3080 and wanted to give AMD a try this does suck, I will probably go with a 5080 based on the raw performance increase looking like a 4080 super in raw performance will probably not be worth the buy from my 3080
I used Nvidia 3060, 3080, 4060ti, AMD 6600xt, 7700xt. Nvidia is miles ahead. no debate at all. Best you trust nvidia and buy whichever 5000 series you want. I'm going for 5080 too, or maybe 5070ti

The AMD the self coment on this and for now they need to fine tune fsr4 on rdna4 so its gonna run great, but they been askednif its possible to run fsr4 can run at Rdna3 and they answer was yes and no well yes it is possible but they dont know IF they can optimized fsr4 that well so its gonna run on 7000series cuz fsr4 need shit load of computing power and that is main issue. I am skipping this generation. I use lossless scaling for x4 frame gen with my 7900xtx as well as a 3070ti. My 7900 renders my game at 100% usage meanwhile my 3070 is generating frames for it. I am using 100% of my 7900 and about 90% of my 3070, and i am able to get well over 350 fps on max settings ultra super sampling in helldivers 1440p. No need to pay greedy nvidia for frame gen, just do what im doing and stick it up theirs by using one of their older cards to run lossless on to boost an amd card. And all for what like $7 for lossless? Also they have up to x20 frame gen now xD. Its useless but its cool that im able to get 1500 fps max settings lmao

I used AMD and Nvidia's gpu before and let me say, Nvidia is miles ahead. AMD is good but just unreliable if you are really thinking of long term or the future. They just can't handle as well as Nvidia did. Although i really wanted AMD to do well but truths will play out by itself, that they are not at Nvidia's level. I enjoyed far more with Nvidia

7090xt is an upgrade from your xtx , that card is going to be very good. Its overall way more of a balanced card than your xtx and more high end in my opinion.

Used both Nvidia and AMD graphic cards and Nvidia still beats AMD. Not even a close competition i would say. Longevity, adaptability, quality, building for future are attributes that have to be considered as well, not just a 10 second video gaming screen with fps at the top corner. The experience would deteriorate when i used AMD. Nvidia just do the things AMD can't.
